"Jaliscoe Pete" and his three friends murder Will Thompson and his family and try to make it look like it was done by Indians. Will Thompson's son staggers into the Marshal's office. Before he dies from his gunshot wounds he manages to tell Dillon that their farm has been burnt to the ground. The Marshall and Chester ride out to the farm to find the house still burning, a dog shot dead, Will Thompson scalped, his seventeen year old daughter dead in the bushes and his wife only barely alive.
