Well I know it's been a very very long road for you here, what's all this been like for you?
Yeah, it's been tough obviously, you don't want to sit out especially that long, but obviously the team winning has made it a little easier on me.
I'm just excited to be back.
What happened but where it was just a free thing?
Yeah, I kind of took a shot earlier in the game that did a little damage and then just caught an edge.
And yeah, I knew something was up right away, so just a free gaxon.
Are you surprised you could keep going after it happened at first?
No, I mean I'm pretty used to it, obviously everyone's playing through a little pain.
It just obviously when I fell there it became unbearable.
Was it a plane?
Was it a plane?
Did you see that caught my right, I'm sorry?
Yeah, I think I kind of caught skates with greener and yeah, I just kind of caught my toe and felt a break so I kind of knew right away.
When you were playing, what was the biggest thing?
It seemed like you really excelled at the penalty kill.
You blocked a lot of shots, the team was one or two and the penalty kill.
Was that really one of the biggest things you were doing?
Yeah, I think that was a strength in my game.
I think we have obviously we still have a very strong penalty kill.
We're pretty dangerous offensively on our penalty kill so that kind of puts teams on their heels a little bit.
And the guys have been doing a great job while I was out.
You were in the line up for that first week when you guys got going.
What are the biggest takeaways from watching these last couple of months upstairs or wherever you watch the games?
I think just the confidence in our group, obviously we're a pretty young group.
And so at the beginning of the year we're kind of just finding our way.
Guys have really found that confidence in closing out games, playing with leads,
not panicking when we're behind the sticking to our system.
So I think just the growth of the group has been really fun to watch.
You've been around. Could you see it coming before you got injured?
Could you kind of see that it was brewing and it was coming?
Yeah, I felt like we were always really close even early in the year.
Obviously we were dealing with some injuries which didn't help.
But we'd have stretches, games or periods where we were playing to our potential and it was
pretty dangerous hockey. It was just a matter of finding that consistently.
You'll probably head on the road when the team goes out west.
Like how much are you looking forward to just getting back around the guys and being part of things in that way?
Yeah, that'll be huge. Obviously we've had some guys out with me so that's been good for my mental.
But just to be around the group and that camaraderie, I've really missed that.
This is one of the most fun locker rooms I've played in in the NHL.
Just really close Nick group so I'm really looking forward to that.
Hunter, what really your role will be when you return to the lineup?
I don't know, I guess we'll see what happens.
I'm really confident in where I'm at. I feel like I've put in a lot of work.
But we have a really strong team and I think there's a lot of guys that can fill certain roles.
We have a lot of great depth which is a really good thing and I'm just excited for this stretch run.
Why is it important to have that depth especially going into the stretch run?
For when things like this happen. Obviously you never know who's going to get injured.
And usually you guys have to step up. Certain guys will go down at certain points.
It's a long grind to get to that final prize. So we're excited for it, but we're going to need everyone.
Yeah, obviously when the guys are at home, you try and spend as much time as possible.
If I linger at the rank a little longer.
And then when the guys run the road, just kind of hanging out with trainers, equipment staff,
other guys who are injured, things like that. Obviously I'm kind of from the area.
So my friends and family were up here quite a bit, so that was nice as well.
You're well aware of this as a hockey market and hockey area.
The last 10 games have been a sellout. It's been crazy in this place.
I mean, you're at least here. You see it. Is it fun for you to see kind of hockey back here in Buffalo?
Yeah, it's a fans 100 percent. I think all the guys have touched on it. It's been pretty electric.
We definitely feel the support. I live downtown. So even just walking around the city,
you can see all the people in Sabre's gear. There's just a buzz to the city right now. It's awesome.
Yeah, I've been through quite a few injuries. So at this point, I kind of know how to deal with it,
how to work my way back. So unfortunately, I have a good idea of the process.
