We had three guys come back for practice.
They all look pretty good to be able to go to that.
You know, with all guys, see how they made it through today.
It looks like things went pretty well, but the usually post-practice is the best indication.
We think back to the start of the season on the road, the way you guys struggled in different
ways to win games on the road.
Do you think it just was like a bit of a mental hurdle, just to show that you can play
the same way at home and get the same results?
Well, I think there's more to it than just that.
You know, I think we started the year with some pieces missing out of the lineup.
You know, early on, Collique wasn't in the lineup, Norris wasn't in the lineup.
We had different pieces in the middle of the ice, so we had to sort some things out.
How much different confidence do you see just walking into a road building, hitting the
road these days than you did a few months ago?
Well, we have a lot more confidence, obviously.
We've played well in the road.
We've been able to hang around in tight games and find ways to win.
We've been able to push through when the game is tied in the third.
We've been able to come back with the odd time having a poor first period or a poor start
to the game.
So I think the group believes that, you know, even if things haven't gone your way early
on, you can still battle back.
How much do you think you like that third period of the year?
It took them 11 minutes to get it shot.
You guys defended very well.
You had some problems with some turnovers for a couple of games.
So it wasn't like to kind of see your team back to where it needed to be.
Yeah, a lot better.
You know, we talked about, you know, some of the puck decisions.
We had a couple inside that game early on that, again, we didn't like, but
fought our way through that.
And then I thought that third period was about as clean as you could play.
A lot of guys all season really, the rookies are new guys coming and making impact.
What beyond just talent?
What's allowed those guys to come in and just be able to do stuff?
Is it just the group?
Is it like being put in place, you know, spots to succeed?
Can you kind of, you know what I mean?
Can you kind of display that?
Yeah, you know, I think, you know, a lot of pieces have moved around.
And I think that some guys have taken advantage of, you know, a heightened role.
I think any time even inside of a game, when you've moved pieces around,
it's an opportunity for a little bit of freshness or
maybe there's a line that has struggled.
And somebody's been bumped up or, you know, somebody's playing with somebody else.
And I think we've all wrapped our arms around the opportunity that,
if you get a bigger opportunity to get advantage of it.
And there's some nights if somebody's struggling,
somebody else is going to get a better opportunity.
And then you heard Daniel said, here's some Alice back on the ice.
I mean, will they return to the lineup?
Either it's more night or I don't know if that's how it's.
Yeah, I'm hopeful that they all return.
They should be all ready to return.
Obviously, that's a lot of numbers.
The focus will just be on Vegas tomorrow.
Putting the lineup together with that.
And a lot of times, you know, you go game to game, things sort themselves out.
You've obviously talked about Austin's defensive instincts in the past.
But as far as I've got to swim on your soul,
what do you like about his consistency over the course of this season?
Yeah, you know, I think, I think the break came at the right time for him.
You know, it's been hard compete for him.
I think he's been able to handle that compete, the physicality of times.
He's been really tough and he's been able to handle that.
But overall, just to maintain a high level of play is, you know, what you're looking for.
You've only had four shootouts this year.
You've won a mom.
When you're deciding, where am I going to put Jack Quinn?
Whether it's first, second or third, you got to shoot her like that or any of them.
How do you decide the order that you want to go in?
Well, we stayed with the same order for all four games.
It doesn't mean that order couldn't change, but I can tell you that, you know,
Alex talks, likes shooting third.
The only problem I have with that is, you may not get to a third shoot or sometimes.
So, you know, we weigh that, but, you know, Jack is always shot second.
We've gone with Tom or in the lead.
We've had success so far, but it doesn't mean that, you know, this time's a, you know,
a guy can go on a cold streak and you might take him out of the shootout for a game or
just drop him to the fourth or fifth shooter.
I think we've got some guys there that have been able to surprise people when it comes
to shootouts.
He was our fourth.
He was right there.
We had him with Norris.
Norris had scored, I think, in his previous opportunity.
So, we kind of had that, depending on how the game was going or how they, inside the game,
who that choice was going to be.
Even rotating the goalies that you kill and Alex, supposed to one-fix you for seeing,
just continuing that or why messing with success or making changes.
I do, with the way the schedule looks, you know, we've had success with.
We feel that, you know, even when those guys play and Alex steps in as the back, back up,
that gives that a little bit of extra rest.
It's a mental break for the guy that's going to start the next night.
And it's working.
So, short-term, my answer, don't see why to change it.
Who can, and you had mentioned, even though he gave up seven, there's probably five of them
that he had no chance on, he's not going to stop.
But still, can that cook it in the goalies head because he responded, played a really good game
against Washington, even though he gave up seven, and even if it's not a goalie's fault,
that can get in the goalie's head, can it?
You know, I think at the can of times, you know, you've seen some scores around the league,
and you've seen some big scores on good goalies, and that's all part of a goalie's life.
I think if you can put those behind and just move on to the next game, but, you know, like I said,
inside that game, you know, you're probably right four or five of them.
You'd have to make a spectacular save.
They were backside opportunities, they were rebound opportunities that he made the first save,
and then couldn't get to the second one.
But that game was one of the wildest ones you can be involved with, so it's part of what the,
when you look at their best goalie, you have up eight.
And you look at it too.
I want to talk about the Washington game, though, too, just the way you play that game.
It just seems like he can come out, compartmentalize and say, hey, that's in the bass, let's go.
Yeah, well, I think that's an asset, you know, an asset the goalie needs to have is the ability,
just to park it and move on to the next one.
The West Coast trip, the month left to go in hockey, do you change anything with that?
Is that, I know the schedule schedule, do you like it?
Don't like it going out west?
No, I think it's common that you have, you know, one trip later in the year.
I really have no preference, you know, say it's a tough trip in regards to
you're going to play four games and six nights and you've got to be ready because this time
of the year, every team is looking to stay where they're at or looking to climb up the standings.
And every team we're playing is right there in the thick of it.
So it's going to be one heck of a road trip.
Is there a trick to managing as many guys as these leagues?
Yeah, I think there is.
I don't know if I have that mastered yet, but we're going to work on it there.
We've got a lot of bodies.
That's a lot of people out there.
I mean, the reason we changed ice was the ice got pretty bad right away.
So we got ourselves on better ice, you know, you're out there skating with,
you know, six, seven extra skaters.
And the ice breaks down pretty fast, but just trying to keep everybody involved, you know,
and that'll be probably the the biggest part of, you know, the numbers we have is that,
you know, the guys that haven't played or are not in the lineup right now have been a big part
of getting us to where we got to and I have a lot of respect for that.
