You know, we got off to a good start.
You know, they fought back and it up being a real tight game.
You know, I think this time of year, you got teams that are right
in the thick of it wherever you're playing.
So, I anticipated a real hard game.
What's the challenge of this trip?
You're near the end of the season.
Everybody's fighting for position.
You're playing four teams.
They all came to Buffalo and I've got beat.
Well, you know, again, we want to continue to play well.
Every game, every point, means something right now.
We understand that.
Take it a game at a time and realize that,
you know, they got a guy like Stoneback in the lineup.
They're going to be a better team than we then we face the last time our own.
Usually when I ask you about star players who have speed like Jack Eichel,
you talk about taking time and space away from them.
Is it the same with them?
Yeah, and he still got away from us last game a couple of times.
He created a couple of two and one's.
You know, we've got to do a better job.
You know, we've got to limit his opportunities for sure.
But we know that he's a type of guy that he gets a step on.
Yeah, there's nobody here that's been a catcher.
If Tuck can't go, is Kozak a guy?
Maybe not.
Fastest guy.
Is Kozak a guy or always confident come in and just give you a little burst of energy on that fourth line?
Real good speed.
Good penalty killer.
You know, I think we're looking at, you know, a guy that's as killed for us.
We're good in the face off dot too.
If we need that on a PK wise,
real good shot blocker.
So he's played well for us.
It'd be if Tuck can't go where I'm excited to see him back in there.
How much of the choice is on defense you're going for in that third pair?
How much of it is based on a lot of times on a opponent if somebody's a heavy team,
if somebody's a skating team?
Yeah, you know, I think there's a little bit of that.
And depending on who we face, we're going to, we want to address the six guys that are going
to give us the best chance.
So no more than that, you know, I think sometimes physicality will come into play.
And I think speed will come into play.
You know, it's a little competition to, you know, between that group who can,
you know, who can stay in and play.
Hope they all play well.
I hope the decisions are all tough.
You mentioned to us how impressed you've been with the, you have a lot of extra guys,
with how they're keeping themselves ready and how they're working.
What are the things they are doing that has keeping them ready?
So when you need to call upon one of them, they're going to be ready to go.
Well, you know, we keep really close tabs on, on their numbers, on their practice numbers
and how much extra we get them and how much work they got to do in the gym.
Guys that don't play are doing a lot of extra work.
Guys that don't play a lot in the game, you know, they have to do extra work after games to catch
up to the, to the guys that did, that did play.
I got to give our strength staff, you know, a great big thank you because they've kept their,
they kept their hands on all these guys.
Game in and game out and practice and, you know, even this morning, a little
you know, we had a little meeting about, you know, the intensity is down a little bit.
And I think the intensity is down because we have so many players on the ice.
You know, and the boats aren't quite as often as you normally deal with them.
Go, how have you developed the swagger you guys have developed on the road?
You've won everywhere in the last three months but the road was a real problem early in the year
and right now it's almost like anytime something bad happens on the road and the crowds are going crazy
you're able to figure it out and push through it.
Yeah, you know, I don't know if I can put a, put my thumb on exactly what it is but I think we're,
we've been deep with the four lines which just really helped.
All those lines have been, have been good for us, have been able to make a difference inside
of a lot of different games. Special teams at times have been really good that has,
that has helped us. It's been a lot of different ways and been able to win a lot of tight games.
I think you got to be able to score goals. There's been games where, you know, scoring goals has been,
you know, the reason we've been able to work our way out of whether we got down by one or two or
whether we've been able to get a build of lead and hang on.
You'd be easy to go out with the same four D-killing penalties because they've been successful
but if you needed to throw a guy like Zach Mattsend to kill a penalty, you wouldn't hesitate, would you?
No, you know, I think he gets a lot of work in practice.
I think he's very comfortable doing it so we feel that all six guys can kill penalties.
It's not just, it's not just the four that we roll out there with a consistent basis.
