When do you have a guy coming off a sickness, do you have to kind of watch a stamina and
that kind of thing when he comes back in place?
Yeah, I think we'll get a good read on him early and we can balance the ice time off of
that.
How did you feel about Metsa and Stanley, the last game as a pair?
They seemed to do pretty well together from the eye test.
How did you feel about it?
Going back to the game, I thought that pair did a nice job.
Move the puck well, I thought defended well.
There was a lot to like about their game, certainly since it's Stanley's comfort level
grows each game here.
Yeah, you know, I think that's what we're trying to get to, that he understands how
we need to play.
Back to his box outs around the net were real good, moving the puck, 90% of it was good.
I'm sure there's a couple he wants back, but overall, I think he's feeling better about
his game than the first couple.
Does Zach's calmness maybe help them make a good pair because the way he plays the game,
it seems very calm.
Yeah, you know, I think Zach's break out ability has been so good that that complements,
although how we need to play, and I think he gave him good outs at times, I think he
broke the puck out of himself well.
So I think those two did play well, played off of each other.
On day one of training, can't you talk about becoming a better team defensively?
I'm curious how you've seen the guys sort of develop a pride and appreciation for that
side of the game.
Well, you know, something that we're continuing to work on, and we still want to continue
to get better, but it's something that we have a focus on every meeting.
Is it about plays that either give up opportunities or how we can play them better or, you know,
sometimes you've got to give the other team credit, they make a great play, and it's, you
know, what's the worst can we can give up off of that, can we give up a C instead of
a B by just staying inside and protecting our goalie or, you know, a lot about if we
get in this situation, how can we play it?
How much defensively two of this team has gotten so much confidence from the goal tenders
that it just goes through the whole club?
Yeah, I've said it there, you know, even the other night how well our goal tenders have
been and how well they've played for us, you know, I still think we can play better in
front of them, and that's our focus is to try to continue to get better in front of our
goal tenders.
Yeah, the sharks in your building, yes, celebrated at score, but that was a goal on a turnover
basically.
Seemed other than that, you guys handled them pretty well, didn't you?
Yeah, you know, he created a couple of opportunities just with speed and agility that our goalies
made good saves on.
He's just a guy you got to be aware of because if he gets a step where he gets inside or
if he gets you flat footed, he can beat you.
But I think for the most part, we got in his way, we bumped him, you know, got to slow
down the key guys.
You don't want to see a guy get hit like that, but the way Zach plays the game and he's
playing the game, he wants to play it the way you want him to play it, but can he become
a target when the other team starts chasing him around, he gets, gets mad at him?
Well, you know, I think that hit was, he put himself in a tough position, cutting through
the middle of the ice and those were hits, you'd see 10, 20 years ago, those were pretty
common hits if you cut in the middle.
That was one, but to keep your head up, if you're going to go in there.
So I think there's a little bit of a learning curve there too at the same time, but I like
to our response as a group.
Is there an infectious effect on the team when Josh Down goes in and makes plays in the
forecheck like he was on Tuesday, some of those plays where he gets in and really chases
down the guy from behind?
Yeah, well, I think, you know, creating opportunity sometimes isn't about having a pocket
so hard.
You can force the other team into mistakes so that allows us to get that opportunity.
Sometimes you don't like your turnovers, but the other team can force you into them and
we're trying to force the other team into turnovers that'll create a chance for us and
he's probably one of our top guys at doing it.
