With the CBS world news round up,
the face of social media could be about to change after the landmark verdict in Los Angeles.
Finding meta and YouTube are liable for creating platforms,
designed to be addictive for kids and for not warning them.
The multi-million dollar judgment came a day after meta lost a similar case in New Mexico.
Here's CBS News correspondent Jo Ling Kent.
There were tears of relief after a jury delivered a major legal blow to meta and YouTube.
In a landmark social media addiction trial.
Stop blaming the parents.
It's on you.
On Wednesday, a jury ordered meta and Google YouTube's pairing company to pay
$6 million in damages to the plaintiff.
A now 20-year-old woman named Kaylee, also known as KGM.
KGM claimed features like infinite scrolling and auto-play were factors in addicting her to the apps
that she said led to depression and anxiety.
Billionaire Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was called to testify about the goals he said
for keeping kids on Meta's apps.
He told the jury, quote,
we try to create a service that is valuable for people.
Meta says it will appeal.

Long security lines at airports and prolonged disagreement in Washington.
CBS's Nicole Skanga has the latest on the story that has air travelers angry and frustrated.
On Capitol Hill Wednesday, the acting TSA administrator warned the situation
at the nation's airports could get even worse if the government shutdown continues.
We are being forced to consolidate lands and may have to close smaller airports if we do not have enough officers.
Republicans and Democrats have traded proposals in recent days to reopen DHS,
but there's been no deal so far.
Bush Airport in Houston is one of the epicenters of America's TSA headache.
As few as a third of the security lanes here are operational at any given time because roughly
40 percent of the TSA personnel have called out of work as they await a DHS funding deal
to restart their paychecks.
President Trump said today on social media that Iran better gets serious soon in talks to end the war.
CBS's Holly Williams reports yesterday Tehran rejected a U.S. plan to end it.
Iran has its own conditions for stopping the war,
according to the country's state media.
Those include an end to quote aggression and assassinations,
as well as a demand for reparations.
We do not intend to negotiate.
Said Iran's foreign minister and no negotiations have taken place.
Yet last night, President Trump repeated his claim that Iran's leaders were eager to end the war.
And they want to make a deal so badly, but they're afraid to say it because they figure they'll be killed by their own people.
After nearly a month of war, the Iranian regime is weakened, yet still functioning.
Even under fire, it's shown it can paralyze oil shipping through this rate of hormones,
with global economic consequences.

All the equipment you guys use out here uses diesel?
Yes, trucks, tractors, all of it, everything.
Farmer Chris Goodwin says diesel has more than doubled in price since his last fuel delivery two months ago.
Today, former Venezuelan president Nicholas Maduro and his wife will appear in court for their
first pre-trial hearing since they were captured by US troops. CBS's Lillia Luciano.
This is just the next phase, the next process in a long and incremental legal battle.
The former president is facing four federal weapons and drug-related charges.
They include narcoterism, which he pleaded not guilty to during his arrangement in January.
He told the court that I am innocent. He also called himself a prisoner of war.
Today in court, Maduro will try to push for the dismissal of this case.
His lawyers will also discuss who will pay for his legal fees since he sanctioned in the US,
and whether he can use Venezuela and state funds to help flood the bill since the US does not
consider him illegitimate president.

Sources tell CBS News a Trump administration official has made new criminal referrals

She has denied any wrongdoing.

Well, there's where the Postal Service is looking to raise prices for some services by up to 8 percent.
CBS's Jesse Mitchell.
Higher prices will take effect from April 26th through mid-January,
2027, for a priority mail,
ground advantage, and parcel select services.
Though first-class stamps are not affected,
the move is subject to approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission.
A new study finds rising sea levels are creating more patches of dead trees,
known as ghost forests, along the east coast.
Lead researcher Samantha Chittakount says those ghost forests are a problem.
This is where ocean water, as sea level rises,
kind of intrudes into these areas,
and then causes the trees to start to die off.
The dead and dying trees don't recycle nutrients and carbon into the soil
as well as healthy trees do.
There is no longer nutrients coming into these areas,
so then all the rest of the forest starts to die off.
Chittakount says ghost forests can't be saved,
but her team's findings could help conserve other coastal forests.

Some seafood is getting a makeover.
At the recent seafood expo North America in Boston,
many products resembled salami meatballs and more.
It's an effort to make fish and seafood more appealing
to American consumers,
betting that you'll eat more fish if it looks more like meat.
We consume just about 19 pounds of seafood a year,
compared to a global average of 45 pounds.
And that US number has budged only a bit in a century.
New products include salmon, snack strips, shrimp burgers,
and tuna that taste like chicken fried chicken.
