Hey, ChancesRevivalPunk.com. Good morning. It is 64 degrees and we are recording this
0:11
time. There was a slight snafu, what we're good to go now. And today we're talking about
0:18
the tin tools that solve 90% of the problems. If you could only own tin tools, these are
0:26
the tin tools. I'm going to change out one of these on here. I'm going to move it to possibly a
0:32
bonus number 11. Also, I'm going to redo the order. But before we get into all of that, though,
0:39
let's take a listen to our morning theme music.
1:10
And it's another day of running late. Yesterday, I almost had it down pat this morning. There were
1:18
snafu's. I'm getting there. Tools, the tin tools you need to solve 90% of your problems,
1:25
especially around the house, if you are a homeowner, even if you're a renter. When I was a renter,
1:30
I did a lot of stuff. Maybe I recocked my shower one time. It was old and the cock was starting to
1:43
it's cock was moldy. So I tore that out and then I cleaned the grout. I got a grout thing. It was
1:50
gross. It was an apartment for a really long time. But the rent was great. When I moved out,
1:58
my rent had recently gone up to 600 a month for a one bedroom apartment. It was a pretty dang
2:07
big apartment. Not like a great apartment by any means. But when you hear what people are paying
2:16
for rent now, they would kill for a $600 apartment. Anyway, number one on the list to me is always
2:26
going to be a cordless drill. Later on, we'll talk about just having screwdrivers, but there are
2:33
so many times where just having a cordless drill makes your life better and easier. I've thought about
2:41
like as an as an upgrade as an additional not on this list, I've thought about getting one of those
2:47
power screwdrivers. They're not strong. You're not going to like drill holes with them.
2:52
But there's a lot of times where just not having to do the screwdriving motion to unscrew or
3:02
screw things would just be a dream. You're taking out like 20 screws just having a power screwdriver
3:11
is great. I usually just use my drill. Like that, I just use my drill.
3:14
I'm going to make a real good attempt to edit that out.
3:25
Anyway, if I have to take in or out a whole lot of screws, I usually just grab my screwdriver and
3:31
just go easy on it. Starting holes, drilling holes. I don't have a pocket hole jig, but sometimes
3:41
I'll just kind of DIY a pocket hole. You take your screwdriver, I mean, you take your drill,
3:51
and you drill at an angle in a piece of wood, a small pilot hole, and then you go back in with
4:00
a slightly larger drill bit that will accommodate your entire screw, and you make a little hole that
4:07
doesn't go all the way through, like halfway or so, so that the wood has some kind of structural
4:12
stability, right? You need some wood for it to hold on to so it doesn't just snap off.
4:20
And then you put your screw in and you have a concealed hole and a strong, strong-ish joint.
4:28
So, I definitely would like to get a pocket hole jig that's well outside this top tin list,
4:35
but having a pocket hole jig is one of those things you should think about. If you're all woodworking,
4:44
repair, and mechanically inclined, I've put new legs on my couch because I just not going to buy a couch
4:54
for this house, right? This couch is going to last us until we move, and then I don't give a
5:00
shield what happens to it. Go in the dump, burn, burn, I don't care, I'm just not replacing it,
5:06
I'm just going to have it limp along until we move, which leads us straight into a multi-bit screwdriver.
5:15
I just said there's a lot of times where I used my drill instead of a screwdriver, but it's not
5:20
always applicable, right? You can't always use it. It's too big and too heavy and too
5:27
indelicate, right? You're taking tiny screws off of the back of a laptop, not really the best tool for
5:36
the job. I have a couple multi-bit screwdrivers. I have one kind of very specific electronic or pair
5:47
ones. It has all of the safety and the specialty bits that you don't need for most things, right?
5:58
Only kind of small, delicate electronics have the weird security ones, the weird little triangle
6:04
ones, all of the weird bits that they don't want, they don't want to use a Phillips head screw,
6:13
just because everyone has it, and they kind of want to discourage you from opening your laptop
6:18
or your iPhone, whatever. I bought just a generic fix it toolkit and it works great. I've lost
6:30
a couple pieces of the year. It's maintained pretty well, but having been dropped multiple times,
6:38
I should at some point replace it, but at this point, it's still good. It works for everything.
6:44
Having a bigger actual, because this thing is it's small, it's made for delicate things,
6:50
right? Which is the opposite of the screwdriver. I also make a point for just having
6:58
multiple screwdrivers, right? I have a bunch of the like cheap, take a bit screwdriver that
7:06
makes your screwdriver handle, basically be able to to screw anything, right? Like you can put any
7:12
of the the bits, which are universal, into the screwdriver and do whatever you want, right?
7:22
It won't take the bits, there's probably an adapter, but it won't standard. It won't take the
7:29
bits for my delicate one, because they're tiny, right? Those are tiny screws, and they fit in a
7:36
tiny screwdriver. The normal the normal bits, I think there is a standard for it, because I've
7:45
interchanged them tons. Unless there's a crazy oddball out there, they seem to be pretty standard,
7:53
and that'll be between the both of those, right? I think you should own
8:00
back to screwdrivers, right? I think there is a sod case, especially as I get older,
8:07
to just having a good set of screwdrivers, and I kind of want wood ones, right? I've
8:14
I have had my wife for like Christmas fears to go bought me a set of screwdrivers, because I really
8:22
wanted them, and they came in all different sizes and shapes, a little folding like roll-up pouch
8:30
thing, a tool roll-up is a pretty good, I like that a lot. Anyway, it came in this roll-up case,
8:38
and you know, they're okay, but they weren't, this is a terrible design flaw, because I bet they
8:46
came from Teemo, which is fine for most things, there tends to be a lot of jank though. The screwdrivers
8:53
weren't full-tang, so the screwdriver metal only went into the handle, the plastic handle like,
9:00
an inch or so out of like five inches, so on multiple ones of them, I had the handle snap off,
9:12
basically making it useless at that point, unless I want to re-handle like a Teemo screwdriver,
9:18
and I can tell you that I don't. So that's, there's really, there's really a place for good,
9:30
solid made screwdrivers. Granted, you're not gonna, I've never broke a handle off one of those
9:39
multi-screwdrivers, I just haven't, but I myself am really considering getting like a set of
9:47
wooden screwdrivers and just have those, right? You don't need like every, you just need like a
9:53
couple of the stand, like the most used sizes. Let's move on. Adjustable wrench. I feel like this
10:05
isn't really one item as much as it is a few items. You need a few different kinds of adjustable
10:14
wrench, right? Sometimes you need a crescent wrench for a lot of things, right? Like once again,
10:22
would be nice to have a day case set of wrenches for a lot of things, they will work better.
10:29
A crescent wrench isn't always the best tool, there's a little bit of give and play in it,
10:37
they can get locked up over the years if you don't maintain them well. I've had to throw away
10:42
mini wrenches because they'll get rusted and seize up or the mechanism is cheap and it'll
10:51
bind to get stuck. There tends to be on the cheap ones, there tends to be a bit too much play in it,
10:59
right? You adjust it to the right size and it'll strip off bolts because it's loose and it'll
11:09
go around the corner and it'll start stripping off the bolt. Not always, but also a lot of times
11:19
an adjustable crescent wrench will save the day. There's a time and place for a crescent wrench
11:26
and there's a time and place for a dedicated set of wrenches that are not going to have any play
11:31
and are going to be a solid fit. Once again, quality comes into things a lot. If you could buy
11:39
a vintage craftman set, you'd probably be solid. The other one, I feel like you absolutely
11:51
definitely, what is this guy? Why do you have lights? What are you? There's flashing orange lights
11:57
on a car. There's so bizarre and there's so many cars behind me. Anyway, wow, go around me,
12:06
dude. Absolutely go around me. Go the fuck around me. Yeah, go fuck you bitches.
12:19
Yeah, you guys are probably doing drugs and shit. Anyway, monkey wrench. Everyone's absolutely
12:25
own a monkey wrench. There's a lot of times where a monkey wrench is the only thing that will do
12:32
the damn job and if you don't have it, you really are kicking yourself. Mine either lost or
12:42
it seized up and I had to get a new one and I really needed it at that time. Fucking plumbing issues.
12:52
So if you do not have a monkey wrench, love God. Go add a monkey wrench to your toolset.
12:59
And I'm surprised you haven't needed it. If you're a younger person, listen into this
13:06
because you discovered things to go wrong and you probably need to be prepared and your dad
13:11
was a piece of shit and never taught you about tools and you don't own a monkey wrench. Go buy a
13:16
monkey wrench. Trust me, one day you'll be like, oh man, that monkey wrench saved the day. Yeah,
13:24
it happens a lot. Anyway, let's move on. I think the next one is pliers. I'm gonna probably have
13:31
to do a two-part episode guys. Pliers. Yep, I was right. Channel lock or slip joint. So many of the
13:41
things on this list are more categories of tools that you should own and not this specific tool.
13:49
When I said, when I said drill, having an impact drill probably also is a good idea.
13:58
And there's a chance at some point in your life you may need hammer drill. And when you need one,
14:06
you need one. Some of these things though, some of these things though are better rented or borrowed.
14:15
Right, there's a lot of things where it's like, I'm divine on this. There's a lot of times where
14:21
I hate to buy a tool to only use once for a specific job. But the part of me that loves tools
14:32
doesn't care. I got to buy another tool. So however you want to go with that,
14:38
suppliers. There's a channel locks I use quite a lot, especially in conjunction with either the
14:46
monkey wrench or the crescent wrench. I tend to use those often together. Like having the crescent
14:57
wrench or the monkey wrench lock on to something and using the channel locks to tighten.
15:04
Yes, I've also used like two crescent wrenches or monkey wrench and a crescent wrench.
15:11
But sometimes the channel locks are either more readily available or depending on size, right?
15:22
Sometimes the channel locks get really big and you can really just grab something and crank on it.
15:31
So channel locks are a fantastic tool to have. Those guys that sped around me just
15:37
barely ended up ahead of me because of the red light. And they're telling each other going off to
15:43
probably have butt sex. Anyway, vice grips are a little good one to have. Like I said,
15:53
if they category and you need a bunch of pliers,
15:56
and you don't know, suppliers will absolutely save the day when that's what you need.
16:03
However, there are step-ins. The other day,
16:08
my step-son for his, maybe it was Christmas. He's like 20 now. He really wanted an eyebrow
16:17
piercing. So we gave him a gift card to a piercing place for Christmas. And he got it in,
16:24
anyway, the ball fell off recently and he was having trouble getting it on.
16:31
And small and slippery right makes sense. So he was like, God, can you help me? It was like,
16:37
it was like five in the morning or something, right? Because,
16:40
love God, he doesn't sleep and I get up early. I'm trying to put it on and it's just hard and it's
16:45
slippery. I get my leatherman multi-tool and I grab it with that and absolutely does the trick.
16:56
So in the future, I know that's the way to go. Use, use pliers to start it and then
17:04
then you can type, well, honestly, I just use the pliers. That's, hey, there's those douchebags.
17:10
It's fed past me. Enjoy getting your gas, douche's next one. Last one for this particular episode
17:18
and then we'll pick up tomorrow. Good, I have a show topic for tomorrow. Utility knife.
17:25
I highly believe everybody, especially if you're a man, should have a pocket knife.
17:33
Women too should have a pocket knife. Every man absolutely must have a pocket knife.
17:42
It's something for me to get a new one, I think. I need to sharpen this one, but also,
17:47
I've carried this same EDC knife for forever, for so long. I think it's time to try a new design.
17:57
I think it's the Spider-Code tenacious or Endura. I don't remember. I will link it in the show notes.
18:08
Probably. Anyway, having something like a box cutter is great for, especially for things that
18:19
are going to just pointlessly dull your pocket knife. You should have your pocket knife good and
18:27
sharpen all times. I need to get a new sharpening system probably today. But things like opening
18:35
boxes, cutting open plastic clamshells, cutting, cutting, LVP flooring, cutting insulation,
18:50
cutting carpet. There are a million things that you need a utility knife for and you have to have one
18:59
and blades. There's nothing like, there's nothing like just slapping in a new blade and being done
19:04
with it, right? They're cheap and you can do it a lot. Absolutely have a utility knife.
19:11
Opening boxes, cutting rope trimming materials, emergency cutting. They make, they make
19:18
skinning utility knives so that you don't have to have a skinning knife and keep it sharp. You just
19:23
slap in a new kind of like scalpel blade and skin. Those things are really awesome. They're
19:30
a little pricey, but I think they're pretty neat. So with that, let's wrap up this particular
19:36
episode and we'll pick back up with five more on the morrow. This was James from www.tronopunk.com.de. I
19:41
want to survive you guys.
20:06
Here. Fixing the world one nail one tear. Sweat drips down like molten steel. No surrender. No time to
20:16
kneel. Give me tools. Yeah, yeah, give me tools. Build it up. Break it down. No. Give me tools. Yeah,
20:28
give me tools. My hands, my will. My burning fuel.
20:40
Thought dust clouds like storm inside. Blue print dreams of wolves upside. Drill in my
20:46
hand tearing through time. DIY sold in his filthy prime. Brick by brick. I carved my name
20:54
with every cut. I stake my claim. Give me tools. Yeah, yeah, give me tools. Build it up. Break
21:04
it down. No. Give me tools. Yeah, yeah, give me tools. My hands, my will. My burning fuel.
21:24
Brick by brick. I carved my name with every cut. I stake my claim. Give me tools. Yeah, yeah, give me tools.
21:47
Build it up. Break it down. No. Give me tools. Yeah, yeah, give me tools. My hands, my will. My burning fuel.
22:17
Break it down. No rules. Yeah, yeah, give me tools. My hands, my will. My burning fuel.
22:30
Break by brick. It down. No rules.
