1021. "AND" Is The Price You Pay For The Life You Want
About this episode
What if the thing keeping you stuck isn’t your circumstances—it’s your buts?
“I want to get in shape, but I’m too busy.”
“I want to get out of debt, but I still want to eat out.”
“I want to make more money, but I don’t want to do all that extra work.”
In this episode, I unpack an idea from Seth Godin that I love: you can either live with your buts and accept the consequences, or turn those buts into ands.
“I want to lose weight, and I understand I’ll have to track my calories and get up earlier.”
“I want to be debt-free, and I understand I’ll have to give some things up.”
The “and” is the price you’re willing to pay for the life you say you want.
Your buts keep you negotiating with yourself. Your ands reinforce the commitment. And while the discomfort of changing can feel heavy at first, it’s temporary. Regret can last decades.
You don’t have to change your entire life today. Make the shift, pay today’s dues, and keep moving.
Which one are you going to live with: and or but?
