We all want to be outrageously successful in life, whatever it is that the word success
0:16
means to each of us.
0:17
It might be to settle down and start the perfect family, produce academic children, and watch
0:22
as they grow up to become the president.
0:24
It might be to write an award-winning novel, Own A Billion Dollar Company, or simply to
0:29
create a life that you never need a holiday from.
0:32
As varied as people's ideas about success may be, one thing is always certain when trying
0:37
to achieve our goals.
0:39
Success rarely comes without hard work, dedication, tenacity, and no small amount of luck.
0:46
Though the drive to achieve our goals doesn't come as naturally to some as it does to others.
0:51
A principle which has had me racking my brain for an answer to the question, what is it
0:55
about people like Sir Richard Branson and Elon Musk that makes achieving their goals
1:00
seem like a trivial affair?
1:02
Well, after much research and testing, I've stumbled upon a few scientifically tested
1:07
ways to gear your mind toward success with a few daily rituals which will train your mind
1:12
to go for the things you want.
1:14
But before we begin, let's talk a little bit about how our brain works in relation to
1:21
A matter of the mind.
1:23
The human mind is a wholly remarkable object, complicated and un-listening though it may
1:29
It is the origin of every good idea that eventually grows into a successful endeavor.
1:33
It is also the means by which you'll need to navigate a sea of problems to get you
1:37
to the point you want to be at, and perhaps most importantly, it is also your biggest obstacle
1:43
to realizing your dreams.
1:44
However, learning to work with and not against your lumpy loaf of grey matter will make
1:49
it your most powerful tool when reaching your goals.
1:52
As you learn to master new abilities, you are essentially fortifying pathways in your
1:58
The more you do something, or indeed think in a certain way, the more your brain forms
2:02
to keep that skill or thought process as a permanent part of your life.
2:07
You have neuroplasticity to thank for that, a phenomenon once thought to slow down as
2:11
humans age, but has recently been found to continue long into adulthood.
2:16
This is, of course, a double-edged sword.
2:19
After all, the same brain that is pushing you towards success is throwing out a million
2:23
reasons why your plan might fail.
2:26
So the idea behind training your brain for success is learning to control what types of
2:31
thought processes you allow it to conjure up to stand a better chance of achieving what
2:37
Here are a few simple ways that you can do that.
2:41
Visualize your goals in detail.
2:44
Success requires no small amount of imagination, a concept which might have those who are not
2:48
artistically inclined, squarming in their chairs, but being imaginative is not a characteristic
2:54
purely reserved for a beret-wearing post-modernists with an opinion on the aesthetic.
2:59
No, everyone is imaginative whether they believe it or not.
3:03
A lot of people simply don't actively practice it and scorn themselves for slipping into the
3:07
odd bout of daydreaming, a phenomenon I like to call passive creativity.
3:12
If you can imagine what you want to achieve, you're perfectly capable of being positively
3:17
creative, and it can go a long way towards achieving your goal.
3:20
All you have to do is spend time each day imagining, in as much detail as you can, what
3:26
it would be like to get with your after.
3:28
If you want loads of money, imagine the joy of lying in a bed of cash or checking out
3:33
bank statements with large sums on them.
3:35
The key is to incorporate as much detail into the vision as possible.
3:39
How does the image make you feel?
3:41
What is the exact sum you want?
3:45
It's simply imagining what you want isn't going to be enough, while you may be altering
3:49
your brain patterns to incorporate your dream into them, you still haven't quite convinced
3:56
Manipulate your emotions towards your goals
4:00
The next part of hacking your way towards success involves associating your goals with
4:06
Life gets us down sometimes, but for some people, simply getting out of bed without a
4:10
gripe is a difficult thing to do, and this is where self-talk comes into the mix.
4:15
Whether you are aware of it or not, the first person you listen to each day is yourself,
4:20
and it is your opinion on matters that sets the tone for the day.
4:23
So when you wake up to take a plurr slump in the shower until you're awake enough to
4:27
function, try to be aware of the nature of your thoughts, try to push negative thoughts
4:32
from your mind, tell yourself that you are awesome and deserve to move a little closer
4:37
to your goal today, and try everything in your power to get your mind and your emotions
4:41
operating on the same level.
4:43
You may have to force it at the beginning, especially if you are a characteristically
4:47
negative person, but keep it up, and over time you will begin to associate positive feelings
4:52
with your chances of success and will actually enjoy working towards your goal.
4:58
Keep your goals a secret
5:00
Whenever a new idea with potential pops into our heads, we tend to want to share it
5:05
with those around us, either for acknowledgement of how astoundingly clever we are, or simply
5:10
debounce the idea off of those around us to get more information and opinions on it.
5:14
This seems like a positively constructive idea, but recent research may suggest that keeping
5:19
your goals to yourself is far more productive.
5:26
