2:11season that has been 2026 for the bottom nine teams. It's a strange year with the top eight being set with one round of football to go and obviously anybody that's in the bottom nine can't play playoff. So we're going to do a bit of review of the bottom nine just quickly as well. Caviet, we're talking bottom nine and we are going to review the season of the top eight later in the year. But as we're talking bottom nine, there's some bottom nine members of the buy round that maybe need to get reviewed as well. Don't want to name any names. Notwithstanding Jordan Weir. Said Charlie, we're not going to name any names. But I think Luke Keere somehow pressed that both Keere and Jordan passed the probation and they're still here. Yeah, well, Jordan's wife is doing gym classes with with our like Keere. I've noticed Jordan's

4:16these clubs, we all got to try and put more of a positive spin on things. But we obviously can't avoid the glaring mistakes that have happened at a number of clubs. Nearly every team has some positives heading into next year. Like, basically every team does. If we look at this bottom nine, I mean, the top four from last year are all sitting in the bottom nine. That's something that stands out. But again, another disappointing year for the Tigers, the Titans. The Titans, to be sitting in 16th again, is dreadful, in my opinion. Yeah. Well, we're going to get on to those in a moment. The arguably the biggest surprise. I think even more so than the Broncos is Melbourne. And we are going to obviously have a deeper dive. But maybe when you look back and you go, okay, with the horrific injuries that they'd had to endure, the Ryan Papinhausen late decision, maybe caught them unaware. But Melbourne. I see it's interesting that Papinhaus

5:19is the thing because Sua Fah long has been their best player. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. And you know what? I reckon, well, even before I came to the NRL in 2012, people, experts would have said, ah, this is the year. Melbourne, it's over. And that included when they had people like Slater, Cronk and Smith, people thought that that ride was over. And obviously, then when those three either are tired or moved on and the Bromwich boys, maybe some people would would have the balls to say, ah, this is the year, Melbourne, Mr. Finals. But then it almost got to a point where nobody even bothered saying it because anybody that had had been proved wronged year after year after year. So I reckon maybe for the last four or five years, nobody's bothered predicting them not to be in the eight. Now, maybe it looks like they've had some injury concerns.

6:25But nobody really had the courage to go, oh, this could be the year because it's Melbourne, right? And we just, they're just part of the calendar. It's like good Friday, it's Easter, it's Christmas, it's your birthday. Like they're just, they're just there in Finals. But obviously not this year. So looked at the Broncos as the raining premiers. No one's predicting that. But Melbourne not being there in September just doesn't quite feel right. Doesn't feel right at all, Jimmy. Should we start at the bottom of the ladder? As it currently stands for this obviously is out to on Sunday. So we're recording this on Friday afternoon. Yes. So we're going to start with the dragons who they'll be finishing last regardless. So good on them. If the big paramount of today will be a great, big great effort. But we're going to start with the dragons who actually haven't played Finals footy since you were there Jimmy 2018 was the last time they played Finals footy, which for

7:27clubbers proud as the dragons is very disappointing. I think many people this year expected them to struggle though looking at the quality and their roster. But some players have emerged this year for them and the players have got coming next year. I think fans will be feeling pretty excited about that next year. Yeah, most definitely. Just going back to that. It had been a long time between drinks before the dragons had played Finals before them. So one finals appearance in well over a decade. And we know that the history of the club, we know what their fans expect. I think this year was I always thought it was going to be difficult. There was no there was no one brought to the club that tanned your head to say, oh, there's a clear improvement in 2026 on the horizon based off what what what their level of performance in in 25 was. I thought the greatest attribute to the the dragons was coach Flanagan. I thought he actually kept them together. It wasn't

8:3424 when they were very, very close to making the finals dead that awful afternoon where they got pumped by the eels. And that took the destiny out their own hands and then looked the start to the season was really poor. But I think what what broke them as a team was the one point loss in Vegas. And sometimes fragile teams. A close loss is the worst thing to happen to you. You go over to Vegas. You put all that effort in. And you're you're the most drained fans. Most NRL viewers would say they deserved at least a point in that game. It was taken out of their hands. And ultimately I think it was that that that was the beginning of the end. It was hard for them to mentally recover from that and looked at observing them play football. It was glaringly obvious what

9:39they were lacking. They bought Daniela Katsunin. He was the one signing that I think was more hopeful than it didn't work out. Then it was a hopeful signing more than an evidence-based signing or a previous result signing. I think he'd been he'd had a handful of good games at NRL level for the sharks. A handful across many years as well. He was sort of in and out of that time. But sometimes when that's the case, there's a reason why that that particular player hasn't banged down the door enough at the club to warrant more game time. Usually it happens pretty organically. And it wasn't like the maybe a situation like the Raiders with a with a stalling in a known patty or a he lay in a wadi in the Warriors. And so they're in a bit of a shootout. There's just not enough game time. It was never really like that for Ackinson. I think he's a very handy

10:44player. Where he fits in next year is going to be really interesting with that 14 roll or that goes to Karl Flandigan. It remains to be seen. The standouts are shoot and the Calcumamboy's in terms of their forwards contribution. There's not much more that they could have done. I feel for the season that has been they've tried really hard so much so. If you look at the order of order of players coming in, I think Keon Kloyne Matangi was the first cab off the rank. He was he was signed for a ball was kicked. I mean, the minutes is going to be an issue because they've kept Pacifica Tonguey as well. There's some drama with him at the beginning of the year asking for that release. He's forced his way in to get time. I guess now if you're looking at it, you probably

11:48it was fortunate for Keon at the time that the dragons they just needed a big name like which Keon who was playing for Australia in the Aussie squad at the time. It was probably just they needed somebody in any position that were just happy to get them. I honestly think now they probably wouldn't have entered the market for Keon at the price that he's come up not saying that he's not worth that because he is and he was but it's probably not what the dragons needed but thankfully for the dragons, they've gone and addressed those areas. The biggest issue for the dragons this year is their highest paid players contributed very little really. You got Gatherson, Val Holmes, Damien Cook, all past their best, all not offering a ton, especially an attack for this dragon's side. Yeah. And the way that the land has been, the land has been sort of allowed to lay in terms of the speed of the game for 2026. The lay of the land has been a fast,

12:55quick young person's game and the Tyrell Sloan, he is the quickest, most devastating player, X-Factor style player that the dragons have. Probably haven't used him enough and there's areas of his game that undoubtedly you would like to see him prove but I don't think that's going to happen now. I think with Sloan what you see is what you get and there are talks that he may be able to get out of that deal at Castleford and the club would be happy to see him stay on deck I think with Tyrell Sloan you just go look what you see is what you get, like just back him to to score his points and there are going to be some issues defensively but but that's okay and they've got the start us coming next year though. To reporter at the back and out and out attacking genius, Cody Nicaramer in the halves, Luke Meckoff in the halves, Philip Sarmine who's been incredible for the title this year and it's in a team struggling. Philip Sarmine has been awesome this year. I'm forgetting another player as well but they are kind of watching. Kind of watching that 12 months. So they've got a lot of attacking geniuses coming to that team.

14:01Yeah so in terms of what's required, I think you've got to tilt your hat to Daniel Anderson, look guilty, like I've personally friendship with Daniel but what he's doing is addressed the issues, gone out and brought in a number of players in all those key positions. Like what's wrong with the team? Here's what's wrong. Where are we lacking? Where are we not lacking? I mentioned the key on call to bring him in. Maybe it's not necessary now but it certainly was necessary then and what it's what that signing of key on hasn't done is affected their ability to go after all the players in those key position areas. Sometimes that can happen where a club will buy a player in a position where they're already overly stocked in and that affects their ability to move in the market. That's not being the case with the Dragons which is an exceptional job especially when you consider there's a new franchise entering the competition for next year. For them to land as many quality

15:04players as they have done needs to be applauded. The main concern for next year in my opinion and I say this and I've got a very good relationship with this player. Luke McCarf is a champion human being and when he's playing footy he's amazing. He's only played 45 games though in his entire career and he's been around for a while now and he's on huge money and if I was a Dragon's fan that's what I would be scared of is we've got this player coming in can he stay healthy and there's nothing anyone can do to control it. He just crossed your fingers and hope he does stay healthy Jimmy because when he's on the field he's kind of play that can win a Daly M. Yeah absolutely when he's fit and firing there's not many that can go with him we saw that celebration in that game for the Warriors where he bears back onto the scene the Christ of Adema just quickly looking back to this year as well that the call to move on from Flanagan at first it looked like a very messy situation when they had that press conference

16:08nobody really know knew what was going on who was going to take the job it seemed like there was some factions Jimmy. Is it factions? Yeah yeah and a little bit of an inability to make a call on what's next. I've got to applaud Craig Jung and what he's done and stepping down from his role I think that's the best not because of not because Craig moved aside for somebody else but he's recognized a situation there and that's a selfless act from him. When you look back at that iconic moment 2010 you'd say oh why would we not want to try and recreate that with Dean Jung being the coach now and the hug that pretend like you could almost forecast where there's side by side images it's the player x player father some relationship and then you've got the coach and son father

17:13relationship as the chairman you could see that being too iconic in images side by side but what Craig Jung has decided to do is exceptional I'm sure Dragon's fans will look back and you know maybe question certain games that the big one that would have been a huge disappointment for for all Dragon's fans would have been the Anzac Day game against the Sydney Roosters that was when Dean Jung was the interim his first game in charge you can maybe look back now and go okay we forgive that because of some of the tenor out. Yeah it's got to be a no brain of this is the right decision there for Dean Jung because you look it's not just that they've they've shown sklimpses and their performances forget about the performances all of their best young players re-signed. Yes. Just got drink water said that Dean Jung was a major part about him come to the Cowboys players want to play for him and like at the end of the day that might have happened on the shame planning as well but it's happened under Dean Jung so that makes it the right call. Absolutely absolutely and look Dean's got he's got to ride the expectation now like realistically

18:20a lot of Dragons fans after the moving on of Coach Flanagan thought they were going to get the instant response now that was maybe affected by the recenty bias and what they witnessed with Keirin 4 and coming in after in four games into the season. Dragons fans automatically thought that well if Keirin 4 and can do it for Manley then Dean Jung should do it for the Dragons but obviously it was a roster based issue but coming off a wooden spoon it's no easy feat. The Newcastle Knight again Dragons fans will expect the same response from the dragons as what happened in Newcastle which has been miraculous. I didn't give you the heads up at this but we should do a grading for their season. What are you giving the Dragons for a grading Jimmy and what have we got we got A B C E F E E F E F E F E F E F E F E if I get anything about the C I'd be shot because C is a pass and the coming four getting four wins is not a pass.

19:23You know what for all the positives we've spoken about it is mainly about the future. I think this year in isolation any club that has to sack their coach and change course so drastically is always going to be down the lower end and the fact that results didn't change this season in isolation I think an E. That's fair enough. I think the you know and obviously the decisions made this year that do affect positively or reflect positively on them but unfortunately the four wins two of those against the Tigers at a time when the Tigers were struggling not not not not not a not a great year and you know there's been a couple of games there at Cogra where the stands were pretty empty. 22:34foremost what do you think they're missing because it's a weird one isn't they got players too many of this too much at the same and I think the jury's still out on where the Campbell is a genuine half like I like in five I don't well sit a six yes yeah I think gone to his head he probably had prefer fullback and I'm feeling so I'm a better fullback AJ definitely feels like he his best position would be fullback he's been he may not be there next year I can't see a world in which which he is this isn't a Queensland rep side on Australia and Reps side where you know you've got Slater at the back okay English plays fullback you play him in the centres and all right Darius Boyd he plays on the wing and you know we've seen rep teams accommodate three world class best in competition fullbacks it's not the case at the Titans look Hanna Keene has been

23:38okay this year he's had a he's had numerous like highlight real moments but he requires a little bit more consistency and you know the the recency bias on this one the the Titans have fallen off a cliff towards the back end of the year like they've they've saved their worst for last like they I think they've lost their last five now yeah from memory yeah that's right with with one game to go against the dolphins who they'll play this evening yeah they're finishing the season really badly and I guess this they still need the bottom so how you finish need the bottom is it is it relevant I sometimes like I've seen sides that blood youngsters that get that experience in in order for next year they've not really gone about it like that or have seen sides finish years strongly and then you know they carry that form into next year or some sides

24:45that do it because there's no pressure and they they revel in that the the Titans are I think they've got some good names on paper but they just don't seem to connect defensively as a team and that was never more evident than the South Sydney game last week where you know David Fafita ran through them Cam Cameron Murray ran through them like the the the some and and that's not because of who they're coming up against it's because they're just not connected as a defensive unit in that middle four middle six yeah because if you think about the individuals there's an origin player Tina for Suilmahawi there's a guy at Moe for the waker who had his young age he's still in his only 26 he's nearly played 200 games for the Scrake he could be the most yeah from Rural of all time the way he's going but he he's not the player he was a couple years ago as well both firm ones played origin before I don't know how we got Cooper buy Cooper buy who one of

25:47the best young 19 only 19 years ago that you know the biggest thing we could buy is if he goes to PNG he'll become the richest player in the NRL with the amount of third parties he'll get so that's going to be a huge carrot yeah and he's available from November 1 to negotiate so he could join them for 2028 the the talk is though that he really wants to stay in the Gold Coast so he might actually decide to shirt the money for later in his career and just stay at the Gold Coast yeah and just just going back to that four bucks situation it can't upset team harmony if there's a if there's a case where three people think they deserve to be there now if you win you accept it but if you're losing you can almost start a second guess the coach and say well why are we persisting like four bucks the most important position in the game

26:48like in turn defend and attack like obviously the number seven is going to control the game but you need that full back and if you've got two players in the 13 that are looking and going well we're not going to gonna roll a dice here coach like that can that can upset the team harmony what what are they missing in terms of players though because Titans fans will go look at our roster is pretty good look here he tipped us for the eight this year year before that other people have tipped him for the eight like every year a couple of pundits get excited about Titans and they see what you hear every single year you're told them the ladder and you see why because you look at their roster on paper and you go oh actually like if they can get it together maybe there's some issues there that you know coach Hannah needs to to really uncover or you know I've seen do they need some dogs they need some like the race stones of the world the Kurt Donohy is that what they need to they need some like lunatics yeah me me that aren't afraid to go off script potentially yeah

27:53child it's it's not a bad it's not a bad call or or someone like when I watch Tino as a leader he just leads by his actions where that's gonna look at the players in the eyes and say let's let's go and I'm not saying Tino doesn't do that but I don't seem as like a confrontational leader to his own teammates or confront the opposition but probably doesn't that's just not his way of doing things one of the hardest part of the goal coach is is that connection piece so look at Newcastle Knights this year like Holbro comes in and goes I don't know if these players know who they're playing for so he takes them to the minds right to have a recognition of those people that pay their hard end though this is what day to day week to week looks like for a lot of them this is the community that we play for I've seen it happen at the dogs I've seen it happen at Pemriff I've seen it happen

28:56at a numerous clubs where they they know who they're playing for go like and there are some clubs that can't pull that lever the wires with their fan base like that that is incredible Broncos when their fans get open about they they they they they can be the difference we see you know Alex Glenn and his ground announcer stuff like that's all part of the Broncos faithful like you know some cops packed every week the cowboys or another club that do it really well in terms of recognizing who they play for the goal coach don't have that lever so I know they've gone production line as a as a way of moving things forward I think that's the that's probably the key that connection to the club that you've been a part of from your formative years your teenage years and maybe you've got that connection to the club and the people but it's going to and we forget it's it's Hane's first

29:56year in first grade as well he is like he's still learning like we can forget that a little bit he was a marked as the next big thing and you know he was doing a great job as the assistant at the sharks he was assistant at the at the maroons and for queens and but there's still some what there's still some gaps in his knowledge as being that first grade coach internally though at the Golcos Titans they are over the moon with what Hane's brought they they've got huge huge wraps in him internally at that executive level ownership level they love Josh Hane well I think that I think that's right chicken because make work like what's the next move you you they moved on they bought Haslorene is this really experienced coach moved on him they had hold book before that they moved on him I think maybe what they're learning at the Titans and they've got a smart for ball group in terms of like that ownership model there's some of the best brains trust there in order to help

30:56them make that decision they think they've got their right man in Hane but he's gone it they're not stupid enough to think it's going to be an overnight turn around it's it's going to to take some years of hair to pain and you'd hope that by bringing that group through together that they can be a success but they've they've had a couple of shockers this year and they've finished the season Zane Harrison what are your thoughts on him great great season the hardest position to to play especially as a as a as a youngster with the with the expectation of your your team your club the players in and around you he's been a shining like this season for the goal course Titans again with some work to do and by far away not the finished article or the finished product rather and but but they'll be looking and going okay well we can build a team around this person and we can have that relationship with coach Hane and move that forward to the next four five years all right

31:59offseason we're sitting Jimmy to you and me sitting here we're running the goal course Titans in the offseason we're going why are we not improving as an organization why are we not improving because what do you mean by as an organization like I was in on the field because there's an organization off the field they're very successful they've got great ownership group they've got billionaire billionaires in the frisale group who can put a lot of resources in they've got this great nursery but why are we not improving on the 40 field which is what matters because it's going to take time and this is the fair and I know they've been on the job they've heard they've heard this before they they have but it's under coach Hane it's different different journey between Haslow the experience coach and Hane the young rookie coach different journeys they started this journey with Hane they could be heading the same destination well they they could be check out but they could be headed into the same destination but it seems as though the plan is let's home grow

33:02our own um Zane Harrison homegrown and I was from New South Wales but he's local too let's let's all right they're not home what if he leaves work as he's available from November one and they we know how tight the half-backed market is and how there's not many half-facts available what if he goes well to be bitterly disappointed what if he goodbye goes bit again bit bitterly disappointed if you were playing Cooperbyes position would you be feeling confident about where the goalco is tightened again it depends on what the pitches or it depends on what the other offers are yeah the worry I have is living in the goalco is great and that is a big selling point but it's a big selling point to have maybe certain characters of players as well maybe the idea of living by the beach living in this place it's you know beautiful weather all year around beautiful people beautiful nights out great food great restaurants it's all great it's all fantastic maybe maybe maybe you need five new identity maybe maybe they do maybe they need

34:02on-off characters maybe they need more intense characters that's something that the coach needs to figure out they need people like you as terms of players honestly they need people like you that's the stiltside style of player that they need the type of character they need maybe who the best because their best players Tino yeah what an amazing human being is Yana Kinney what an amazing human being is Jaden Campbell what an amazing human being is you know you are an amazing human being as well thanks Charlie but what I mean is they need to be guys and we're just gonna go in there and maybe be be a bit of a C word and just five things up a little bit maybe maybe maybe maybe they do I think like I said before in terms of their roster I think they they need to move on from Brimson and maybe even Campbell as well and I know that they're looking to keep them but I reckon look not discount what he does at six but I just think better forber tie oh great for the tightness I've gone E yeah yeah six wins eight six wins near the bottom

36:11the tigers the tigers have tiger again in 2026 we had December we sack the board we sacked Shane Shane Richardson we bring back the board we reappoint the old politician barrier farrow as the chairman we then have an odd season when we come out of the blocked firing Luke Kiri says we can win the premiership then Jerome the wife signs for the PNG chiefs and everything falls apart from there they're five and two and at that stage we were at that game for triple M phase day night like our oval and they they put it on the last year's minor premieres the camera raiders who were forced to be wrecking with and look there's a few things that went their way that game I think Ethan Strange had a bit of an an an off night with a bit of an injury came off they came back on like no Martin got injured in that game yeah so there's a few things that went against the raiders but at that point I went yeah okay like they're in here and I thought all the nonsense about that I thought it
