Go into the world. And tell every man that you meet. There is a man on the cross. A Catholic take. What you need to know right now. A bold synthesis of inspiration and information. Keeping you up to date on the news and issues from a courageous Catholic perspective. A Catholic take with Joe McLean starts now. Praise be to Jesus Christ. Welcome back to a Catholic take a bold synthesis of information and inspiration of your host, Joe McLean. Praise be to God. It is good to be on with you as we remember 25 years ago. The fatal and crazy events that really changed, changed the world in so many ways. What a change it was too. The world's never been the same since September 11th, 2001. We're going to have a conversation around that.
Two thousand, 977 people died that day, not including, of course, the terrorists. And it was one of the worst. If not, I think it was the worst impact on firefighters. Ever, 343 members of the Fire Department in New York were killed that day. It was the largest single turnout of firefighters to one single event. Hands down. It was a crazy, crazy day. And again, the world has simply just never been the same. So we're going to have a conversation about that today. In fact, it's going to be a day of remembering. Mark in Goglio has an article over at one Peter five. Today's difficult pilgrimage. He serves in the fire service as well as a disaster recovery and EMT. It is also a a tried Catholic and teaches a classical school. He's going to be on with us at 30 past the hour. As we remember 9-11. Also today, we're going to have another follow up conversation on the Latin mass being canceled at St. Peter's.
You might remember we talked to Michael Haynes earlier this week just the other day. He told us about this. But it seems like there might be a follow up there. Could Bishop at the Nation's Snighter have been specifically targeted in the cancellation? Well, return to tradition, Dr. Anthony Stein joins us to 14 past the hour to work. 14 past the hour to weigh in on that. So we have a lot to get to today. We would be so very grateful if you would share us with a friend. But let us remember 9-11 and pray for the repose of all the souls that were lost. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, Amen. Remember, almost gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to the hypertension, implored die hell, or sought thine intercession was left unated. Inspired by this confidence I fly into the Virgin of Virgin's mother, to thee do I come before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. A mother of the word incarnate despised not my petitions, but in thy mercy here and dancer me.
Amen. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and now your saint of the day. St. John Gabriel per Boire pray for us. John Gabriel was born in southern France to a farming family in the year of our Lord 1802. He and his brother Louis both entered seminary. And in 1825, John Gabriel was ordained a priest of the congregation of the mission, known as the Vincentians after their founder, St. Vincent de Paul. Father John Gabriel became a professor of theology and helped to direct novices in the cemetery, seminary. The priest was originally prevented from taking part in the actual missionary work he desired due to his poor health. But in 1835, his brother Louis died on the way to China, and Father John Gabriel successfully volunteered to take his brother's place. The priest studied Chinese and made some progress in a vagalization until in 1839, a great persecution of Christians began. Father John Gabriel was betrayed to the authorities by a former Catechumon and arrested.
He was tortured horribly by various methods for his refusal to apostatize and finally condemned to execution. On this day in the year of our Lord 1840, Father John Gabriel was strung up on a cross in Wuhan alongside seven criminals before he was slowly strangled to death. He is one of the first recognized saints of the church in China, be edified within 50 years of his death and canonized about a century later. Our Sunday visitor reports in breaking news, allegations against one senior Roger Landry have come out, against multiple individuals apparently following an initial investigation conducted by the Archdiocese of New York, and the diocese of Fall River after consultation with canonical advisors. It has been determined that sufficient evidence exists to restrict the mon senior from public exercise of priestly ministry pending the resolution of his matter.
The allegations include violations of the codes of conduct for priests and do not include minors. A senior mon senior Landry was appointed National Director for the Pontifical Mission Society in July of 2024. And just the news reports Trump marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th at the Pentagon. President Donald Trump spoke at the Pentagon on Friday to honor the dead on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, 2001 and the terrorist attacks. But also let us remember, Father Stephen McGraw, Christendom's former head chaplain who was a newly ordained priest in 2001 when the terrorist flew American Airlines Flight 77, and he was straight into the side of the Pentagon, destroying the west side of the building, and killing 125 people. He was sitting in his car, stuck in traffic right in front of the Pentagon when the plane flew over him. He grabbed his stole, he grabbed his oil, and he jumped the fence and headed to the wounded in the dying, or he tried to care for them and provided last rights. What a hero.
This British police arrested more than 62,000 people for speech offenses. In the last five years, that's about 34 arrests per day, let that sink in. 34 arrests per day for speech offenses. Things like, you know, indecent, grossly offensive, obscene, menacing, knowingly false or intended to cause distress, anxiety, annoyance, inconvenience, or harm. We just call that social media, but I guess in the UK, it's illegal. Those are your headline news. The Gospel today comes to us in the Novosaro Misei from Luke 6 verses 39 through 42. At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples. Can the blind lead the blind? Do they not both fall into a ditch? The disciple is not above his master, but everyone shall be perfect if he be as his master.
And why see us now the moat in thy brother's eye, but the beam that is in thy own eye, thou considerest not? Or how canst thou say to thy brother, brother, let me pull the moat out of thy eye when thou thyself seeest not the beam in thy own eye? Hypocrit cast first the beam out of thy own eye, and then shall thou seek clearly to take out the moat from thy brother's eye? The Gospel of the Lord. Louse, TV Christie. The great commentaries of Cornelius Loppede, Fahl the Machivaly Archbishop, and Fahl the Hadoch are always what I go to. When I'm reading Sacred Scripture and I got to tell you, you should get these commentaries. They're all for free, all online, very accessible. You should go go them. But Machivaly says by their own free will they perversely continue in their blind state, and they are so presumptuous as to attempt to become the guides of others, equally blind and obstinate.
He's speaking to his disciples in this passage. Who is he speaking about? I want you to ponder that for a moment. Machivaly goes on the end of such teachers and of those taught by them shall be eternal, irreparable ruin both fall into the pit. Hell is spoken of here, and it lasts forever. People go there and they are there forever. Let's sing again. Cornelius Loppede says they are blind because they do not see the light of truth, and a faith which I said before them, but in their blindness and error whereby they make sanctity consistent washing and other external things, they are obstinate and incorrigible, and are leaders of the blind, namely of the people to whom they teach this error. He then lies the clue as to who this, the context of this passage is really all about. It is reminiscent of Matthew 23 when our Savior says, you know, they have authority.
They rule the people because they sit on the chair of Moses, the cathedral of Moses. So do as they say, but don't do as they do because they are hypocrites. Our Savior, as Cornelius Loppede makes clear in his commentary, is speaking of the leaders of the people, the Ecclesia, the people, the church in the Old Testament that is being perfected in the new. It is being taken away from them by our Savior Jesus Christ, their Messiah who has come to visit them, and it's been given to his apostles, and his apostles are there listening to this, and our Savior is warning them. You will end up just like them in hell forever unless you're careful. Let that sink in. It's pretty sobering. Cornelius Loppede goes on to talk about the splinter and the moat. He says, the moat is a bit of straw or chaff, a tiny particle of wood, such as easily get into the eye. The moat signifies little faults and defects, the beam denotes greater crimes.
And in fact, there's a story, Cornelius Loppede goes on to quote from the lives of the fathers, an abbot correcting critical monks, filled a sack with sand, and carried it on his back with a tiny basket of sand in front. He asked why, he said, the heavy bag is my sins. And because there are so many, I have put them on my back, lest I should grieve and lament over them, but the little quantity of sand is the sins of my brother. And they are before my face, and then I exercise myself in judging my brother. It's not that you're not supposed to judge because this passage follows the other one that we talked about yesterday, judge not, right? You are supposed to judge. You have to judge. You judge acts and actions. You judge behaviors. You judge such situations. But you cannot say whether or not someone is going to hell forever or in heaven forever. That you have to leave to God.
But we are having this sober reminder that your sins are probably worse than your neighbors. We'll be back in two. Praise be to Jesus Christ. Welcome back to a Catholic take a bold synthesis of information and inspiration of your host. Joe McLean praise be to God. It is good to be on with you coming up in the next and the next hour we're going to be talking about the next hour. I met the next segment. We're going to be talking about 9 11 remembering 25 year anniversary. Where were you on September the first 2001? I remember very distinctly the first where I was standing in the first time someone said to me a plane crash in the building. I remember that day so vividly. I talked about that in the next segment, but you might recall just the other day we had a conversation with Michael Haynes about the last mass pilgrimage and the last mass that got canceled at the Vatican after having had Cardinal Burke.
Say it not even all that long ago, but have a listen to this real quick. And there's another one about a lot of mass being canceled for the pilgrimage, the annual pilgrimage. The same Peter's best still looking. And apparently it's somewhat leaning on Cardinal Gambetti to just ensure that traditionalists do not have as well are welcoming the Vatican as they did last year. They have to be told by the Pope or else the answer is no. I'll link to that in the show in the show notes for you, but it seems like there might be a new development. Dr. Anthony Stein from Return to Tradition joins us to weigh in and give us the update. Dr. Stein good afternoon. Where were you by the way on September the first 2000 or September the 11th 2001? I was riding a bus going my way out of Portland, Oregon to the suburbs to go visit some friends when I. That was the day I learned to watch the news every morning. Right as you might expect. Yeah. And I couldn't understand why I listening to my music on my headphones staring at the window of a bus saw a guy with a sign holding a sign by the side of road that said, nuke Islam.
I was like, that's a lot of. I'll out there. And then I switched from whatever I was listening to to the radio and found out pretty quick what had happened. Yeah. How old were you on that day? 21. You were 21. Okay. Yeah. So what a day man. The world has never been the same sense. I want to get to the story, but I just want to like think about that. September 11th, right? Then all of a sudden everything changes at airports and then all of a sudden we have anthrax and we all then all of a sudden then we have, you know, you know, mass gun violence and then all of a sudden that you know we're invading Iraq and Afghanistan and then all of a sudden all of a sudden all of a sudden all of a sudden all of a sudden the next thing you know we're in lockdown mode in COVID. The world has just never been the same. Has it? We live in a much more overtly defined security state than we did back then. The types of people who are warning about police states in the 80s would look at where we are now and say well there you are you aren't in a police state with a so glove on.
That's what they would say. I don't know if they'd be right. Right. Yeah. I think it's my compared to where we were. It is my own security state than it was beforehand. I mean how many flock cameras do you think you drove past in your way to work today? Well, thankfully I don't drive to work. I get up and walk upstairs in the studio. So I'm blessed, but I spent many, many years driving, driving all over to work. So I know the feeling, but college you is. I think back to 2001, there was an innocence, right? There was a naivete that just is gone and has been ever since and I think these modern younger generations. I don't know. Maybe they feel the same way. Maybe every generation feels that way. This was our, you know, portal harbor type of an event. I don't know, perhaps, but either way, just it feels almost surreal to think about it, which brings me to the story I asked you to talk about today because the world needs the traditional atmosphere. The world needs more of the of the patrimony and orthodoxy of tradition handed on by Christ our Savior through the apostles down to the successors of bishops today.
And yet the war, the trad war, the civil war within the church, the liturgy wars are obviously still, you know, going on with this latest case coming out of St. Peter's Basilica. What is the update here? What is going on? The day after the story broke that bishops, bishops, bishops Schneider, not bishops, Stricklands pilgrimage that was to lead a have a mass at St. Peter's Basilica at the main altar that that was canceled and they would be instead having mass at St. at the Basilica of St. Mary major, which is fine. It's a fine place to have a mass. According to some more purists about this, they'd rather have it there than in the St. Peter's anyway, because in St. Mary major, they can have it on a traditional altar, not so much. St. Peter's, but that's, you know, the aesthetics of it are not my main concern. It's the message that's being sent.
And I had speculated that this had this news came on the heels of several messages in the last couple of months, whether in the form of interviews or, you know, letters written to the public or letters written to the pope published publicly on behalf of Britain by Bishop Schneider correcting the Vatican's treatment of the SSPX publicly asking them not to go take not to do the ex-screenication. Because they would be viewed dimly by history if they did that because it was a tragedy and unnecessary tragedies of history, implying heavily that he thought this action by that being done by the D. D. F. At the order of the Pope was wrong publicly saying this most recently saying he found the Nova Sordo after much, much contemplation on the new mass and the theology and the Bount behind it. He said he could not find it to be a tenable mass. He did not say that he didn't think it was valid. He just didn't think the church can continue down the road of having in the west, the Nova Sordo Missa.
There are no other bishops outside the society, say, bias, the 10th and other kinds of groups like that saying such things. And the messages like that. In fact, he published, he said all that and the letter, then his, his pilgrimage gets canceled. And then immediately advatacana publishes an interview with him saying more of this kind of stuff, including taking the church to task for ecumenical dialogue with Islam. Right. Kind of pertinent today. And he was the only bishop. He was the only guy, Bishop Schneider to go to the Vatican and talk to Francis personally. Pope Francis, about after the Abu Dhabi statement, he was the only bishop. And he met with Pope Leo personally. He says in his advatacana interview that he what he finally tells everybody what he spoke to him about. I didn't highlight it here, but he talks about essentially that what the church would need is not a motoproprio, but an apostolic constitution, which is much, much harder for a pope to overturn. Interesting. And much harder for bishops to say no to to allow the TLI'm in the Nova Sordo to peacefully coexist.
He says that would be the only way to restore the turgical peace in the church. I don't see that happening, but he's wrong. He said he asked Pope Leo for that. And God bless Schneider for doing it. Right. Yeah. Why is it that in this assistant bishop is the only one with the courage to do this? That's the question. Right. Exactly. I will give Cardinal Burke credit. He is now openly teaching people that they can use the titles of the Virgin Mary that have been banned by the Vatican. Right Schneider is also that's also one of the things Schneider touched on. Yeah. He's wrong on this. When he is saying that papal directives on things having to do with the faith are wrong. He is getting to a very getting on to very dangerous ground. I don't think this is the last morning he's going to get. Yeah. I mean, but he's been at this for so long now. I kind of I guess this because he's an auxiliary bishop perhaps maybe that's why he's not gotten the bishop's trickland treatment package.
You know yet because he's not in charge of any particular diocese perhaps I'm not sure I'm not sure. But the fact that he has been just a stalwart defender of tradition in the faith in orthodoxy and just sort of and not really afraid of it. You know praise me to God. He's just been so inspiring. But you know it gets me about this story is it's so petty. Honestly, like you don't have to go to a traditional mass to find that this story is it should bug you. Like you go to the Nova Soto I get it. But look, they're being petty here. That's what I talked to Michael Hainte about is like they're doing this intentionally and unless unless you know daddy gets involved and forces them to like guys come on now. Let them have their mass. They're just not going to do it. They won't do it on their own. They want to be a vitriolic towards traditional Catholics and this is them being petty. They could have compromised. They could have said all right, tell you what no pub no big public TLM. I'll let you go downstairs. I'll let you have a mass at the crypt of St. Peter's bones, which is a traditional altar faces at Orientum.
And yeah, you're only going to get 15 people in there if you're lucky on a good day with a shoehorn and some oil. But nonetheless, you can have your TLM there. Like they could have done that, but they didn't even do that. It just seems like this. And you got a hint of the pettiness when they said it seemed like people were gloating about having the mass there last year. Do you remember? Do you remember? Very public Catholics with microphones doing cartwheels about that mass being offered there or we're so back. Ding Dong, which is dead. Do you remember that stuff? I remember that stuff. And that's the first thing that came to mind when they did this. It was like, it's almost as if the Vatican is watching. It's almost a people. Yeah. Like what would be the deal? So people are happy. They got a TLM at the home office. Where's the downside? Like it's, again, it's another example of just traditional Catholics being treated like like outcasts, like the black sheep. Like they're the part of the family. Everybody's ashamed of what explains that. It's absolutely crazy.
Honestly, and I say that only because there are so many people listening to me right now who don't go to a TLM, probably don't plan to go to a TLM and find, don't. But I hope you can at least see why this is really not good and acceptable behavior. It's unacceptable behavior. And Pope Leo should get involved. Do you think he will? No. No. I think he's not. I think all of the things that we that I talk about every single day on my own show. And I come and talk to you every week about anything that comes from Rome he's involved in. He is not unaware of the things being done in this name. He told us he was continuing. Francis is reformed. Where? Where's the Senateality? What that meant? Where's the Senateality in this? Where's the mercy? Meet him where they're at. You know, a company man in all of this. I don't know. You would think that after the X communication, the SSP X dialogue would open up with him since they're willing to dialogue with little
literal idol worshipers or poor who say the nastiest things about Christ. But hey, you know, whatever I guess. Or women pretending to be bishops, you know, like showing up and you know, costume at the Vatican and getting the full press treatment. You know on that, which is absolutely insane. Like there's no, is there nobody in charge of optics at the Vatican? Because you'd think you'd figure that one out pretty quick. Probably not good idea to let Pope Leo have a picture taking with women pretending to be bishops. But nonetheless, here we are. Okay, so, you know, I guess I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. The reality is here. Tried Catholics have to just I guess suck this up. I mean, because it's just not going to go away. That's generally what we have to do. I guess just you know, buckle up and be ready for the long haul, you know, pray and fast and do mortification. Take a maybe take a page from a, you know, things Walter Matt was saying back in the 70s and 80s and the things that a John Vanari would talk about and Michael Davies and that generation of traditional Catholics, whose masses were offered on Sundays and shopping malls.
And stories with my Catholics because they didn't have a place to offer the mass. Maybe take a look at the things they were saying. Well, I'll apply it today. Some good news. We are seeing some movement in allowing for a greater celebration of the traditional liturgy, even in Canada, even in Canada of all places. I saw a post on a substack about a Canadian bishop who's expanding the traditional mass by inviting the good shepherd community and to come and offer the TL and his daisies. It's a good start. It's not the, it's not the total solution, but it is a good start in the right direction. Would that more bishops would be that nice to their, their flock. Speaking of substack, check out Return to Tradition on Substack. Dr Anthony Stan will see at the top of the hour for the after show. But coming up after the break, let's talk about 9-11. Let's remember the day together. We'll be back in two minutes.
Price, beat of Jesus Christ. Welcome back to a Catholic take a bold synthesis of information and inspiration on your host. Joe McLean praise, but he got it is good to be on with you September the 11th, 2001. As FDR said a day that will live in infamy. It surely did for me. And so for so many millions of others. And as I said at the top of the hour, I remember very vividly where I was. I was in Campton, New Hampshire working on a job site. I remember this lady who we were working, I was working on cable construction and I was leading a crew. We were trying to install cable in her little rental cabins. And she came out to say a plane crashed into the world trade center in New York. And I thought like a sassana, like, you know, I thought it was this little plane. And we had no information, but it was blue sky beautiful day sunshine. And then all the planes in the sky stopped. All of a sudden the sky was empty. Then I went found a TV and it was just so incredible in how otherworldly and surreal that experience was.
And to think about how many people died in just today I was watching a podcast of a man who was a secret service agent in a building across the street. He was in I think world trade center building number seven or 10. I forget which when this happened. He made it all the up to the 30th floor where he found an entire floor filled with exhausted New York cities finest firefighters. Because they had been up even higher fighting the fire and this was their fallback when they were like trying to catch their breath. And as he left the room, he heard the chief say, grab your gear or go and back up. None of those men survived the day. What a day joining us now to talk about all this mark in goglio. He is a trade Catholic lifelong New Yorker serves in fire, EMS disaster response and teaches western literature and Latin at a classical academy. He's got a brand new article over at one Peter five were linking to it in the show notes today's difficult pilgrimage mark.
Good afternoon. Thanks for being on. Thank you, Joe. Thank you for having me. So I remember where I was. Where were you? I had just left the employee of the New York City public schools, born and raised in the Bronx. And I had relocated to Columbia County, which is about a hundred miles from New York, New York City. And I was in a little cabin in the woods. And an old man, one house down, which was quite a bit down, came walking over and told me about it and told me to put on the TV. Well, what was your thought when you started to see these images and they were replaying the video of the planes crashing or the buildings coming down? It was a gutter disbelief. I did not have anybody whom I was aware of working in the working in the towers of working in lower Manhattan and so forth. But it was this utter disbelief.
I had not been, I was unlike many fire service employees. I was not a fireman from the crib, you know, from a, as a little boy. I, I fully intended to be a teacher and that's what I had been until I decided New York City public schools weren't for me. And I headed out for greener pastures. Hey, do me, do me a favor mark your cameras not got you centered in frame. If you could put your center in frame, make it a little easier for everybody hanging out on the YouTube's today with us. But I appreciate you doing that. You know, one of the things about this event that I think most of us, my son's in the fire academy. My son, you know, he is very, he's very eager, very anxious to become a full-fledged firefighter, you know, hopefully soon.
But most of us, you know, we're not firefighters. We don't, we're not first responders. We don't, we can only appreciate we can't understand in many ways. And like on that day, like it was a total recall every off duty firefighter in New York City. It was the first full recall in more than 30 years. You know what I mean? Like I think most, most people simply don't understand the gravity of the resources that had to be called upon. And then the resources that were totally lost. Can you speak to that as from a firefighter's perspective? Yes, I mean, it was a 100% recall. Everybody off duty was supposed to be, it was called back. And the problem was actually getting to where you need to be because, you know, at some point tunnels and highways were shut down.
You know, and you had that was actually the birth of the conceptual birth of the tunnel to towers foundation. You know, Steven Sillers, firefighters Steven Sillers, who would later offer his life. Had to like park in the middle of the tunnel and he ran to the towers with his gear. Worthwhile organizations, the tunnels to towers if, if you have ever have the opportunity to work with them or to donate to them. Unimaginable. I mean, just think about, think about it this way. Like the day after, two days after, a week after, all of a sudden New York City's fire department. It's like gutted of leadership. And they still have to fight fires. They still have to be prepared, be available to go fight fires, save lives, protect property. Like just because they lose 343 firefighters in a single day within within the span of a couple of hours.
Doesn't mean they get the next day off. That's right. I was, no. So Captain Mike Dugan makes that exact point. He says, you know, we had to show up on September 12th and not not to the pile necessarily, but to do your regular shit. Because there was fires. There was ambulance calls. There was gas emergencies. There was. Matter of fact, the first chief who was on, uh, on site at around zero at, on site at the World Trade Center. It was there first because he was already there on a gas emergency. So. People have this idea. You know, they look on the TV screen and they, they see this one incident and they say, oh, how awful. Yeah, but there's how many other incidents going on simultaneously. Right. And guys who worked on the pile did that in their time off. You know, they had to go to their regular stations. Do their regular shit. You're, you're, you're internet's cutting out there.
But yeah, it's, it's an insane thing to think about. And then of course, so many of these guys volunteer like they, like I think, I guess in the fire service, you don't, you don't necessarily go to a thing to an event, an emergency of any kind, unless you're kind of dispatched to it. Because you got to command to control your, your resources. You can't just have everybody piling in, right? So, but a lot of these guys, they're just, they're getting off shifts and they're getting in their own cars and they're headed down there. And then they're down there sifting through this rubble for weeks. I forget how long it was, but it felt like forever when they were sifting through this, finding body parts, still trying to recover their friends, let alone strangers. What a surreal and other worldly experience. How, what was this, what was the psychological, emotional impact on the far department in New York after this? Well, they came up with signs that they put on all the rigs on September 12th.
And it said, maybe you can Google it at some point. Still the best job in the world. Yeah. Still the best job in the world. Yeah. You definitely don't freelance. You know, you have to check into the command post. Why? Because they have to know where you're at. They have to know, first of all, they have to know you're there. So that if you are, you know, if you're in distress, they have to know you're there and be able to locate you. So the temptation would have been, I guess, to freelance and everybody just descend and do what he can. But you had to check into the command post. Wow. And how many guys since 9-11, you know, with all of the issues that so many survivors have struggled with because of all the stuff they were inhaling, I was that same, you know, secret service guy that I was telling you I was watching a podcast him give his testimony and he. He, the building was coming down on him and he just started running.
And he could hear like a freight train this building getting closer and closer parts starting to fall around him in the cloud catch is him. And then it's like he said in an instant it's dark and he's choking on concrete. Yeah. I mean, I have a good friend who goes to our paris. She he was there that day covered in the dust. Covered in the dust and so many people have gotten seriously sick. This has been an ongoing battle in New York, hasn't it? Yes, it has. There was there was one member of the department that was talking yesterday and he said, you know, someone asked me on September 12. Do you really want to be doing this? You're going to be. The city tells you that the air is fine, but we know it isn't. But so what? This has to be done. And I hope that I've got young enough children that it'll take 10 or 15 years or 20 years for it to catch up with me.
So that by the time I die, I will at least have seen my kids into teenage years into adulthood and so forth. He had the presence of mind at that time in 2001 to think that that in spite of the reassurances that they all knew that those reassurances were nonsense. There's still I guess it's like 1100 people who died in 9-11 who've never been identified. I was watching this video clip circling the interwebs today of mom Donnie and a causio Cortez laughing it up, having a smile and a laugh and a chuckle. Probably innocently and if I'm going to be fair, they're probably just taking a moment to chat with each other and for whatever reason they were caught on camera while they were doing it. All while the names of the deceased were being read. So everybody else is in a very sombre, very serious. In fact, some of the family members are just bawling their eyes out and they're having a laugh.
It feels like incredibly tone deaf if I'm being really charitable, dishonest and crazy if I'm really not. I mean, to think 1100 victims have never been identified. Zero closure for their families. That's got to play. That's got to have a big toll, doesn't it? Yes, behind the central wall in the memorial at ground zero right behind that phrase from Virgil. That's where they all are. That's where they are interred. Wow. Those who have not been able to be identified. That's where they're at. There was a 9-11 family circulated a petition to ask Mandami not to not to even show up. Of course, there he was. Of course, there he was. Yeah, what does that say? A lot's changed in New York, hasn't it? New York's not the same as anymore, is it? No. And it accelerated during COVID, obviously. Yeah, I brought that up with Dr. Anthony Stein in the last segment.
It just feels like the world and maybe every generation feels this way. Maybe I'm just, you know, maybe I'm naive here, but it feels like September the 11th, 2001 literally changed the world. And it's never been the same. I mentioned a few examples. I was listening to the Babylon, the avoiding Babylon crew, a rob in the crew, talk about this with Michael Hitchborn. And even they picked up on this, like there's so many things have happened since. We still can't go to the gate to watch our loved ones get on an airplane and fly away. Still can't do that. We're only now getting to be able to keep, you know, our shoes on or belts on the airport. Like nothing has gone back to normal. And it's been 25 years. Doesn't that feel bizarre? Yeah. Well, the new normal back then, the new normal. Yeah, remember they were touting that during COVID. Hold that thought, Mark, I want to come back and let's talk about what the firefighters do on this day every year.
To remember their fallen brothers. I watched my son do this very thing today. As a dad, I got to tell you, I had never thought about it like this before. In the 25 years since I lived that day, I never thought about it, but watched my son do what he did today. He gave me pause. Could my son someday have to face a similar situation, but he'd give his life for the others. Lyingly running into a building. Lyingly climbing stairs. I don't know. We'll talk more about that in two minutes. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. Praise be to Jesus Christ. Welcome back to a Catholic take a bold synthesis of information and inspiration on your host, Joe McClain. Praise be to God. It is good to be on with you at the top of the hour. We're going to go on the live video stream for the after show.
And we're going to be taking your comments. And hopefully your remembrances of maybe where you were on September 11, 2001, what your comments are, what your thoughts are. And all of that. So you get to have a Catholic take two and that's in the after show and you can be a part of that conversation by going to the station of the cross dot com forward slash a CT. That's the station of the cross dot com forward slash a CT smash the watch live stream there and be a part of that conversation. But we're having a conversation right now with Mark in goglio. He is a tried Catholic lifelong New Yorker serves in fire, EMS disaster response and teaches Western literature and Latin at a classical academy. He also writes for one Peter five. And we're linking to his article today's difficult pilgrimage. Mark welcome back again. Thanks for thanks for being on. How do you fire fighters remember this day? Well, one of the things we do is the stair climb. And the national fall and firefighter foundation links up with sports stadiums across the across the country.
And they orchestrate these stair climbs. So 110 stories is approximately 2,200 steps. And so some come some firemen come individually some come in a group and so forth. Some come in full gear some come in some what less gear some grips some tools, a hose lay, halogen barn or acts and all of that kind of thing your irons and all that. And then they begin the ascent 2,200 steps straight up. But why that many steps because that's 110 stories, which is 110 stories is world trade certain one and to the highest the highest height that had been that firemen had achieved on that day was flight 54. The 54th story in one building and 78 in the other. And so we have markers at 54 and 78 when you basically would get that high just to come as a remembrance.
And what you're doing is you're carrying the accountability tag remember I said don't freelance. When you arrive on scene you can see the commands you get to the command post and you have to hand out hand over your accountability text so they know you're there. So we carry these accountability tags to the top floor as it were all 2,200 steps which unfortunately know none of the brothers achieved on that day. And so we achieve it for them. And then you get to the top and you ring the bell and you announce their name and their and their assignment and you show their tag over the late this stadium loudspeaker. So imagine your sports heroes you know they're coming out on the field and you're being announced one after the other after the other all these great all these great men that you admire so much these people who have achieved so much in the world of sports. So we announced the names of the 343 and also the 600 or so that have died since of 9, 11 of related illnesses. And that brother has been has been to the top floor. One way or the other we all get there.
Wow. And that's heavy. Now watch my son do this today. He brought his bunker your home. They just went back and forth up our staircase with his mom counting. Watch my son do that. It just. And just to think that those men ran into that building because that was their job. That's what they do. That's you know they don't even think about it like that's climb the staircase. We're climbing the staircase. Put your gear back on we're going back up boys. They put their gear on they went back up. They didn't even question that like that. They just do their job and it costs them their lives. Watch my son do that mark. I'm going to be honest with you. That was. Oh, I don't know it kind of you know the chickens came home to roost a bit for me just thinking about it. How many like my son was alive in 2001 was born to 2009. What do you say what do you say to the young young people who weren't alive or don't remember that day. What what do we tell them you have inherited this.
You know that there's a lot of things that you inherit that you didn't you were an obvious were in a live for. You know you inherit your family affiliation you inherit your name you inherit property you inherit status you inherit you remember of a family this is a brotherhood. So just like you just like you come into all sorts of other things that you didn't earn you weren't there and so forth you have been given this gift. And this responsibility let's see what you do with it let's see what you can hand on let's see what your legacy is going to be. Our firefighters prepared to die I mean they could they it was such as a moment were they ready for this that are they spiritually prepared. So I know many Catholic firefighters and I know that there are many Catholic firefighters in the FDNY. Do they live the the life of grace from what can be seen externally a lot don't.
Wow and that's a frightening thought you know just I mean think about think about what you saw in the Marine Corps. Right so something similar something similar. You know you put you put your life on the line but but is your soul prepared are you prepared to go. Right yeah wow. Wow I would imagine you know it's even that much more important for first responders. You know I think this lesson should have I mean immediately after 9 11 like everybody flocked to church churches were full. I mean it didn't last maybe a couple of months. But boy oh boy you think that that was the wake up call that was going to get everybody's attention and and but we all kind of went back to our old ways didn't we. One of the things that I try to bring out in in the various articles that I write I track that they're pretty much all themed the same way which is if this is how we operate as as first responders as military personnel in the natural world.
How much more so should it be in the order of grace yeah you know you're going to you're going to die someday you're going to die and maybe not a tragedy not a tragedy even maybe you know maybe maybe a little long and happy retirement but at some point. We have here no lasting city. You know what is that line from St Paul I I put it in the the article. It all burns and he will be saved as through fire right that line from St Paul. Can you do it through the fire are you. Yeah you don't even get to take your toenails okay not even they make it all the way till the resurrection at of course but. Like you know 10 thousand it's around 10 thousand people who died over the years from illness is related to 9 11 plus the actual people who died as a result of the incident so some 453 firefighters and counting.
That is a number unfathomable I mean most fire departments simply aren't even close to 453 New York City Chicago LA Houston they have lots of firefighters. But that is a major chunk and they're still counting the fallen. And we've I think we've moved on we sort of forgotten about it all. Yeah I think you said it earlier Joe so many of from the top echelons they lost that day gone is that tell you. You know but and but what does that tell you though like these guys lead from the front the leadership leads from the front. Yeah and then the next day all the rookies had to step into the shoes and figure out how to lead without all of those decades of experience. I'm yes I would not want to be those guys like oh my heavens that would be so terrible to have to build the void after such a tragedy. And Mark God bless you brother we do appreciate your time today thank you for joining us and sharing your experience.
I really appreciate the article itself I'm going to encourage everybody to go to one Peter five dot com we're going to link to it in the show notes of course. But Mark God bless you look forward to having you back soon Mark and go glial. All right we're going to go into the after show and take your commentary where were you on September the first. Our September the 11 25 years ago your Catholic take is next on the live video feed and until Monday God love you. What a day what a day. Ronnie good afternoon and oh Dominie welcome back. Ronnie says he's right my cousin was an EMT and would hang out at the firehouse bad stuff going on in there. He's not even Catholic and had to leave it's just it disgusted him how these men viewed so much. You can figure the rest out you know and this is exactly what I complained about the Marine Corps same thing right like.
When you are when your life could could be taken in an instant like you know with my son having to be in fire fire academy. He had to do research on cases where men die on the job like he had to give a oral presentation of a line of duty death. And we actually had the video of the fire men falling into the fire the floor collapsing underneath them. We had like we watched the video that happening it's just so surreal when you do it and you realize like these men should live more soberly than anybody else. First responders combat all the rest but they don't do they they don't they just don't it's pretty crazy. Dr. Stein is back praise me to Jesus good to have you back on the team. You have a PhD in public policy I'm curious did did did public policy may see a major shift as a result to 9 11. In terms of the study area or in terms of anything I'm just curious about the magnitude of the earth shifting on such an event like this.
There was no department of Homeland Security before 9 11. There was no Patriot act before 9 11 the Patriot act was just a proposed document that kept getting shot down in Congress before 9 11. So yeah I took a major shift. Wow you put it mildly the TSA as far as I know didn't exist before that that's the airports at their own private security handle that stuff. We have a breaking news by the way while we did on okay yeah sign of the course media gives us a headline guy. The Indian bishops mass includes heretical creed featuring a goddess and sexual diversity. Oh. Oh. He has this it's a little long just for this like it was my own show I'd read the whole thing but for the interest of brevity here's the poll quote. He says we do not believe in a punishing God who inflicts poverty upon his people we believe in a God slash goddess who is present in the diverse experiences of communities.
A God who was close to us a liberating and revolutionary God a God who is a member of the C E B's whatever that is who works and struggles like Jesus of Nazareth. Like you know kind of like you know we want a God who's similar to the good man Jesus the prophet the good teacher not God. I want all my heavens you gotta chill out man God you know you just chill out do Jesus not actual Jesus not the actual Jesus of Nazareth. I put out a video today. I edited I had bishops strictly on recently and I was editing the conversation into smaller chunks and I released the second half of it today on my channel where he asks the question do these people even believe and I just knew when I was publishing it that I was probably going to get some comments from some always being too critical harsh but listen in all honesty where's he gone wrong like like do these people even believe what you just read I think proves it that they don't actually believe anything of the Catholic faith yet somehow they got ordained somehow they got
consecrated bishops somehow they're in charge of something somehow it's the most bizarre otherworldly like will life when when the son of man returns will he even find faith on earth no no you won't I'm sorry you will not you're not going to find faith on earth when you come back Lord. Unfortunately you're going to find a bunch of post a it's heretics who want who want who would much rather have some demon goddess than you. And still call ourselves I and I want to just give a little preview for tomorrow my wife made a thumbnail for my news video tomorrow that has that is going to be in the top 10 Hall of Fame of thumbnails she's ever made my channel. I really can't be a right now it's early access it's okay I legitimately laughed for my side I was like this is this is a masterpiece. So. That's funny. The greatest thumbnails of all time that's so great man we're man we're screwed.
I tell you what but you're not allowed to have a TLM at St. Peter's you know what I'm saying you can have your goddesses you know but you can't have your deal. St. Peter for those of you who might be concerned that a.o.c. might be president of the United States she destroyed her presidential run today I showed the clip she was with you showed the clip of her yucking it up was on mom. I did yeah she's done that's she's done now she's not done in terms of the primaries because the primary voters don't care about that stuff half of them think America deserved it. And the other half are sympathetic to the idea of America deserved it so but that's just that's just it's she's done. I hope so but I think I don't know man we're we're so we are so crazy we're so off our brain is so fried our souls are so gone I don't know man I'm she probably does still have a good change how many times did did your buddy billery Clinton.
How many times did she you know get it you know run for president and people still voted for support gave her money I don't know a.o.c. probably still gonna give a give us a run for her money I mean like I did you crazy world we're in the report on the latest twist in the land Lindsey Clancy jury fiasco yes about the one guy that held out to one of the keeper responsible happen to be an African American that one. Yes I don't know why but we it's too perfect it's so perfect because you had a room of filled with essentially nine mostly liberal women and two probably low testosterone men all of them white bullying a one black man their lawyer called him a big it by the way right and now the press does not know what to do with it they're like wait but I'm not going to do it. Yeah what a world we live in honestly I don't want to actually get I don't think that one could get a trial now I don't see how I would say that's my wife like where where are you going to get a jury now it's impossible it's literally impossible.
So who knows what's going to happen God God help us all honestly a glory and glory in sorry glory and next shell see you. She's there so my sister live just two city blocks from the towers she watched it all unfold in real time she she stayed in her apartment she suffered and died partially due to exposure from the poison center I'm so sorry for your loss I will I will pray for her repose God help us all. Devalizer says good may God bless the souls of all who departed on this day 25 years ago and the loved ones of the victims and those who have departed due to complications from that day after. Reminds me of I remember one of the things that really freaked me out when I was that on that day when I finally made it to a television. You see the live video feed and as I was watching I'm sitting there watching all of a sudden like these reporters were trying to report they were like on the scene and that all of a nice loud bangs were happening above them.
It wasn't the building coming down it was the people jumping from the floors above hitting. Hitting like the the roof line above them and it was like these massive loud bangs. And then there was one and there was two and there was three and there was just they were happening. And it was the most against a real moment ever and now we you know ever since we had these videos of the the flying man you guys you know what the flying man is doctorstein. No the flying man is a. They caught on video one of the videos they caught was this guy falling. They filmed him fall from the tower are you a infamous picture of the guy of the guy who to basically jumped. Because it was better that was a better he was going to die so he had the choice of which way to go and that one was better than the alternative. Yeah and he and he looked relaxed and casual.
Nine I'm going to see if I can't Google an image of it 9-11 falling man. And I have avoided watching most of those I. Like real death stuff like I can watch action movies and fake stuff all day but I'm not going to play a video. I'm not going to play a video but let me just at least show the audience the picture when people start. When people start yeah that picture when people start posting on like social media picture of actual death happening I get really upset. Yeah it is upsetting I agree it's like trick because it almost trivializes something you know something horrific. Yeah you know just to put yourself in the place of this guy and I remember watching like a I don't know is a video or someplace I saw maybe a few years back. How they were able to discover they had to do research they were trying to figure out who this guy was and identify him and to and you know talk to his parent to his family rather and they were actually able to identify this guy. And apparently he was working in like the restaurant all the way at the top and the food service all the way at the top.
So he was not able to get down the stairs because you know where he was there was a you know the plane had crashed into the building and it was below him so. He was never able to get down and all we have is this it's just the most real moment ever honestly crazy crazy the crazy world we live in honey bees good afternoon to you. Watch the second plane fly right to D H. Who's D H I missed I must have missed that part D H watch the second plane fly right toward him. He worked on the 39th floor of the next tall building behind the trade center the plane took a turn and hit the world trades center instead of them wow you imagine seeing it from that level. Catholic martyrs R.I.P. Thanks for being on the team. Thank you for being a channel member. I do appreciate you good afternoon dog good afternoon to you thank you again for being a member of the channel. I was 20 miles north of the Twin Towers in a in a managers meeting in R.I. New York.
Your cousins birthdays today Doug well happy birthday to your cousin what a day to have to try to remember your birthday and all of that I guess that was probably sourd for a long time. I'm on your your kids honeybee says in my kids elementary school a father and two of our teachers husbands perished. Do you imagine Huskers in Royals gal good afternoon mom's late parents got married and I think October night 41 my grandparents join the military not really knowing Pearl Harbor would happen. Well FDR knew that Pearl Harbor was going to happen. Well at least that's the theory that's the conspiracy theory. There's enough circumstantial evidence about that. It is kind of an odd coincidence that all the most important American naval ships based out of her Pearl Harbor were all floating in the middle of the Pacific. Well all recalled come home the all the same place at the same time. Yeah kind of crazy. Yeah.
I wonder what the response of New Yorkers would have been on nine 12 if you told them they they would have had they would have a Muslim mayor in 25 years. It's not the same is it. I mean it is so much has changed New York has changed dramatically. Now I mean in fact mom donnie has a favorable rating even amongst juice in New York by the way. I mean they tend to be very liberal and that's probably why I mean yesterday we interviewed Gideon Lazar who was a convert to Catholic Catholic church from Judaism his parents they weren't religious they didn't actually believe they're like atheists they don't really believe that God exists. It's just that that's their culture that's their people that's their heritage so they stick to it. But and I imagine that's probably that probably describes a massive amount of juice in the in the city of New York.
And yet it's probably one of the largest Hasidic communities also in the world. And yet mom donnie has a favorable rating amongst them let that think and go explain that to me somehow. We have the recipes 25 years later and Islam is on the rise in New York in Catholicism is on the decline who knew. I think we get what we deserve. I mean if we're going to like be invoking goddesses it was this was that breaking news that a mass by the way or they just gathered around a pot of mama or what was that. Let's take a look. It just say yeah it was a it was a mass being held for Brazil's cry of the excluded. Oh my God I guess that's a preview since we have the you know we now have a liturgical season of creak care for our common home. We're probably going to have the liturgical season for the care for the excluded. God help us we're so screwed.
Kathleen Smith good afternoon says I was a civilian employee at the sheriff's office here in Missouri. I had a radio in my office and heard it on the radio and right. Oh I got lightning strikes going on I'm here and click and I can hear the rumbling above me so. Okay I hear there's construction equipment I think that's what I'm hearing I'm mind is construction equipment. One of my neighbors his parents sold their their kind of farmhouse they had out like you know five miles from us because you know they're getting older houses empty so they don't need all that land so they bought an empty lot three doors down from my house. You know two doors down from my next or neighbor their son and are having a house built and I'm pretty sure I'm hearing construction workers suffering in 98 degree weather or whatever the time. I'm not there better than me. Well they poured the concrete slab like two weeks ago and it's just been sitting there since then because concrete slab take a while to be here to actually be enough to do it yeah yeah.
Kathleen says I had a radio in my office and heard it over there over there and ran downstairs to tell everyone in the office and brought my radio down so we could all listen to the news until we until we were put on alert. You know and that like 9 11 really did start the whole news cycle routine for the world. You know I imagine it will probably the same JFK got assassinated or if it was the same at Pearl Harbor like any major event all of a sudden you're living on news 24 seven. Yeah we were the media was getting ready for that reality before that with the earliest tastes that I remember getting of a 24 hour news cycle would have been the OJ Simpson Fiasco and the Bill Clinton the fairs and a couple of the things like that. But now it's just constant. Yeah you watch CNN back in the 90s it was like the same five news stories all day. Right yeah plus the occasional human interest story was much tamer than it was.
It became later even though it was still like wildly biased but. I mean you didn't have like live streaming video still was not really a thing yet I mean not really so you you had to turn on a television you had to turn on network television to figure out what was going on and for a long time for like a couple of months after 9 11 I collected newspapers because every front page. I mean I'm not sure what happened to them somehow they might have gotten thrown away I had my my sons looking for them earlier today. Now more news broke down stop stop it's good news right more good news.
News reports that the hold out juror and the Lindsey Clancy trial had a history of domestic violence allegations. Oh really doing hit pieces on this man they're destroying this guy for not letting a woman who murdered her children off. His name will be in that will be public knowledge probably by Monday seems kind of race as don't you think. Just a tad man just a tad that they you know you hear this phrase these days we spent any time online which is you don't hate the media enough. A most public building says honey bees schools in my metro have a piece of the twisted trade center in the garden. My workplace does yeah wow no kidding in proxie mess as I responded to Harvey do you mean hurricane Harvey like the one here in Houston. And there met a fed a fire department New York medic who worked his career five miles from where I grew up in the Bronx.
I was privileged to accompany him to ground zero for the first time since 9 11 no kidding wow yeah and Harvey was a crazy moment too for us here in Houston Galveston Houston area. Some 9 trillion water 9 trillion gallons of water fell from the sky on a Sunday afternoon and the place was utterly devastated flooded crazy I almost drowned in the Buffalo Bayou you know trying to be a rescue guy. And I was costing my life it was pretty crazy and me and he was a D.E.A. he was an agent for the D.E.A. he was based out of Minnesota he got on a plane came down to help you and I were. Swimming through a water treatment facility looking for people to rescue and the we almost around the Buffalo Bayou in the process it was kind of gross. Be honest. Brian says you see the rain in the radar yeah it's like crazy we all I hear is rumbling and thunder and lightning right now above me. We have the recipes good afternoon I am not ignoring you this is a great example of me not ignoring you we have the recipes I was in high school in psychology class someone ran in.
In the turned on and ran it and turned on the one of those giant tube TVs they used to mount to classrooms ours were mounted to to do like a big. Carts steel like metal carts that were strapped on and you would have to go check it out of the library and wheel it down to class. It says we ended up seeing the second plane hit. While bro call was on on the broadcast no kidding. I was saying yesterday that that's exactly the experience that I had when I when it was the challenger the space shuttle challenger blew up I was in I want to say I was either. I think was in the seventh or eighth grade. When that happened. And we are all watching it live when the challenger exploded it was kind of a bad day I would have been first grade for me 1986 yeah what what day in January was that I don't remember.
I don't know James can you look it up. Yeah what's the question what was what day did the challenger blow up back in the 80s. January 28th 1986 at 11.30 AM Eastern time or days after my sixth birthday. No kidding watching. Wow actually watching the TV just like I remember when the Columbia exploded I was running on a treadmill watching the launch on the TV at the gym when it happened. Yeah. Oscars in Royals. How says Peter Jennings started smoking again after 9.11 and he died of lung cancer just such a stupid mistake on his part. Yeah that rest is so I can't blame the guy for relapsing into that into that bad habit though when he. Light of this. Yeah. Oscars says I was seven years old and in the first grade my birthday had been three days before. We do need to say for 9.11 or for the challenger Huskers which you just want to clarify.
This is my first media has another has another story I think they're trying to ruin everybody's weekend here. 10 of these ships attend national conference on LGBT pastoral ministry. One of the bishops said after meeting with a man who called himself a woman I have been converted. I mean he now believes it because he met with a person who needs serious help. We are we are a glutton for punishment are we. Then yeah. Laticia good afternoon to you I think she's commenting on the Harvey Birken Harvey issue says I donated to asbestos removal suits with special masks I pray they helped yeah those were desperately needed because. People were having to tear their walls apart they were what do you call that we call that musking I think it's called musking if I remember correctly everybody and for months and months.
Every street in every neighborhood for the most part had piles and piles of debris sitting on the front lawn or on the street piles and piles it looked like. Here she might it look the place was utterly devastated because so many neighborhoods flooded some of them you know all the way up to the roof. Even in our neighborhood it flooded we had the water in the water basically came up to the almost to the door. We had a boat pull up to our house from Tennessee and my youngest son was just an infant at the time coldly Thomas. And we we loaded everybody on to that boat from my house because we thought the house was going to flood my wife and girls were very nervous about it I was like I'm staying I'm going to shovel the water out as it comes in again no way I'm going to let that my house flood I wanted to stay so badly but my wife is like no you got to come.
So as we're trying to load into this boat which is sitting on my front lawn and obviously water the lady across the street in a single story house she comes out she's like where are you going. I'm like we're going to go see friends she's like I go do you have somewhere to go she goes I got nowhere to go. And I said you can come with but she didn't want to come with instead we gave her the key to our house and I said listen second story I have all the food all the water you get live up there for months you'd be fine. Month and that was actually years later I'd never talk I this lady not moving away I never talked to her again didn't know her anything but years later I was doing a men's conference and I'm. Her boss shows up comes to the men's conference comes to see me and she said and he said I had the flyer to this conference with your picture on on my desk she sees it and she says that's the guy the stranger who gave the key to his house.
So that I could have a safe place to be you know she recognized been that flyer he was like blown away by that like this he that she remembered all those years later that some stranger. Did something nice for her so yeah it was crazy Harvey was crazy. John Paul says Joe McLean has an old photo of himself and the and looks exactly like Jack black it's true. It's true in fact have you ever have you ever seen me and Jack black in the same room at the same time. You probably haven't so how do you know I'm not Jack black. I'm just secretly cause playing as a Catholic talk radio host. Free free free lighting on the on the weekdays Kathleen says Katrina happened four years after 9 11 remember the refrigerator graveyard everyone had to trash that yeah so terrible Colorado flood river flooded Warton and connected to this the San Bernard River it was probably eight to ten miles of water US 59 was closed it was crazy.
Fidelius says Fidelius feel you says I was selling cars the whole dealership was in the service department watching on the TV we saw the second plane hit. Chris good afternoon to use says that was seven days after my 25th birthday God rest the souls of challenger January 27th 1986 never forgot what happened to America since. Brian says mucking we didn't flood in Harvey but we did get mold in our house afterwards oh that's terrible. By the grace of God our house was saved and so many others were not we were very blessed. Is it too early for a beer yeah it's too early for a beer. Is the bad one be allowed to make 9 11 jokes. The Babylon be I forgot all about the Babylon be they still exist yeah there's still a thing.
Oh very much so there's a they've an a I generated picture of mom donny laying a wreath at the tomb. The hard line is mom donny lays wreath at tomb of the unknown hijacker. Oh man that's rough wow holy smokes that's vicious and I would find I would I would be like that's not appropriate today but I literally watch the video of him yucking it up at the memorial so yeah. Speaking of inappropriate I thought this was impossible to do but somebody has been posting a AI generated image video a I generated video of a Muslim flying a plane into the building and it exploding. I am incredibly surprised that a I did that. I thought it had safety measures that didn't allow the depiction of violence and yet clearly they're making these videos that do that I mean that's blown me away some AI to some AI have that is like most of the mainstream AI you cannot use to generate pornographic images of public figures.
Praise God for people this or an age but not all them do some people have made AI models that will in fact do. That's stuff because there's a market for it. You know you want some good news in the US their assistant suicide bill was rejected. I know I saw that to praise you. You at 6 to 270 that is way too close of a vote. Wow I'm surprised it didn't pass actually I thought it would so I'm not so did I I'm politely surprised. Gulf Coast hot spur I was 19 a sophomore college dad worked for D.O.D. called me to told me to turn on the TV talk to you when I can watch second plane hit live years later I lived through Katrina 1.5 hours from from the coast it was wild yeah sure was Jeff Lewis. Good afternoon. This is my grandmother was so worried about her freezer when we went back to back into.
Met Metieri I'm not sure I say that Jeff says had me clean out. Empty the freezer found a ham in there from 1977. What are you doing I was gagging the whole time. I found that ham you've been holding on to. It's hilarious speaking of 1977 you guys know I do have like a thing I told you the story right like how my entire life the number 77 is like very. In a weird creepy way has followed me everywhere I go I see 77 all the time I told you fact I even included that as the one of the. You know plot twists in my fiction novel about the end times it's in my it's in the it's replete I sprinkled it you know like the like the salt day guy did with salt I did that to have the whole story just for the fun Z of it well this morning I wake up in my phone I look over my phone and it says good morning and it's 77 degrees out.
And I'm like I'm just like laughing because I again I see it all that everywhere I see it all the time 77 follows me everywhere and then I started looking at 9 11 stories today and then of course I was reminded because I had forgotten that it was American Airlines flight 77. And then I flew into the Pentagon and of course there was you know like I said it was like that day the number of deaths was like 2000 and 977 died on that day and just I don't know I just. Everywhere I go that numbers there but you just reminded me of that 1977 the ham so yet another great example today of the 77 is your your hand grandma's hand so kind of disgusting but nonetheless funny. The mayor of New York City is a democratic socialist basically communist New York City is falling you know the fun thing about communism and you know Marxist. The Marxist philosophy ideologies is ever since Carl Marx.
Give us this this winning philosophy his factions have all been killing each other and others in and vying for who gets to decide who what is in fact the proper Marxist philosophy so Nazis fascists their cousins fascism is just socialism just the Italian version. Communist in Russia versus you know Antifa versus this one or that one they're all just like they're all just the same just one flavor or another of Carl Marx is in his disgusting philosophy of the devil. And yet of ask majority of New Yorkers one of that and still do they're still up for it. Even with this video out today of mom Donnie yuckin it up at a 9-11. Sarah money were the names of the debtor being announced he's having a good time with it. I still think probably get reelected.
Probably get reelected. Um Homer Simpson would probably eat that old ham. Probably you know here's a fun story speaking of ham in 2023 I was in Rome and I was filming for a documentary on the end times and a good buddy of mine. Mark Ganon he and I go way back to my new hamster days wonderful man great Catholic guy he was a flight attendant for like 30 years. So he flies anywhere he wants for free. And I said hey I'm going to go to Rome is like can I come I'm like yeah let's go hang out so he comes he hangs out with me for the week and we're traveling all over Rome filming all these spots were we're waiting for one of these churches to open up it was going to open up like a two o'clock or something we're sitting there waiting and we're starving and it was like oh we better eat now so we go to this like literally a hole in the wall. It was a convenience store but it was literally like maybe 10 feet wide and probably 15 feet deep and it was literally like a hole through the wall and I find in there.
In their like a refrigerator thing. Packaged ham and I open that bad Larry up and it smelled so bad it was so disgusting. But because I'm a frugal franny and I'm not going to waste I don't I'm not I'm not a guy who waste food you know grandma said you got to clean your plate so I ate the whole darn thing. And then you ended up in the hospital no I didn't stomach of steel not like six pack steel but like you know can grow like a grinder like a tree like a tree grinder it can take it all no problem. Just at least long enough for me to get back to the hotel later to a short short stuff out let's just say. Hello thanks for being a member of the channel says when I was a kid I don't know how many times in the summer of 86. I would look at the clock and it would be 9 11. I always thought that I would one day own a portion 9 11 that was always my favorite cars a kid.
But it came to pass in 20 you got you got a 9 11 when are we going to get a ride how to three three four like what. Literally when I was a kid posters of 9 11's on my wall love the 9 11 favorite dream car you could get any car ever doctor Steinway would be. I'm not a car guy come on you got to have some kind of fave. Cuntosh what are we talking I don't I don't like sports cars alright so too fat for that stuff I once drove a fiat. Really once was a yeah I had a I had this job many ages ago managing a food pantry and we had a corporate partnership with a rental place. And I like got a car you the car you wanted we couldn't give you so we got replaced it you'll like it it was a fiat. Six foot one me. Pretty old like I'm trying to cram into a tiny thing I had to do like a like a deep squat to get into the car.
Even idea like I don't like sports cars because they always write so low to the ground. Yeah they're getting out of the car was pretty much like crawling out of the car. Oh man Unimog yes I'll take a Unimog those things are baller as the kids say I would absolutely love. I don't even know what that is like to me it's a. If I had the money for a second vehicle I probably get a Wrangler honestly really what are you doing with your primary car you got a 15 passenger. No we have a we have we I got a good deal on trade in for a Jeep Wagon air not a grand wagon here not the kind of cost as much as a house but like because it's an American made car that has that seat eight that has that I could put you know five kids in an extra passenger in. Yeah. So I got that after buying many vans I bought a we bought a mini van that had. It's been half the time for the year we had it in the shop yeah I was like nope they're terrible little research and got a magnificent offer for that van from the people who sold it to me for trade in.
And walked out with actually magical car payment for a nice car was pretty pleased I was like cool I don't care about cars that much like is it doesn't work doesn't meet my needs. I do not I do not really terrible gas mileage but you know that's fine it could be worse I do not share your religious perspective on cars I love cars I'm not a car guy but I love cars and I love owning interesting cars. At one point I would have liked to have had a 57 Chevy you know sure that kind of thing. The client I appreciate classic sports cars you know from the like the 60s the 50s to the early 70s that kind of sweet spot in American motor history I used to like watching that show on discovery where they would. Find like out of a junk yard somewhere a frame of a classic car and then spend a week or two working on it and restoring it getting it's working again and that was always a cool show but.
More because the process really yeah what they were doing and because it because that kind of thing can be an art form he really can be but. I don't know like I had no idea what that what the car you guys are talking about in the live chat at all no idea what that was. The in a mug is like an old you it's like an old military utility vehicle from like. Either German I think it's German Germany is a Germany I want to say the only you know mage is a German military. Yeah I'm just miss pronouncing an ill avocado rolled in from a Japanese restaurant. No it's you know my people buy these things and they turn them into like earth rumors they turn them into mega off grid off road you know earth crawlers that are super comfortable and capable I watched a video yesterday if someone who had one of these and turned it into the most monstrous eight wheel you know off road crazy RV was so cool I would absolutely own one if I had producer James kind of cash but what kind of gas my losses I get that's not why you own one of these okay you don't buy it in a mug because you're being efficient gas is three sixty nine a gallon which is pretty nice compared to a lot of people right now I fully admit that.
But you do ask these questions you ask these questions for sure but if you can own a you know mage and then pay to convert it into a major off road off road overlander travel rig yeah I'm looking it up now just to see you literally don't care about the cat cost of gas because you can afford it. By the way hello has an old I would you say a nineteen ninety nine. A Porsche the ones I'm seeing the ones I'm seeing are all for just standard four wheeler trucks. No overlander Pacific look Google overlander Unimogs those are the ones okay I'm seeing four wheeler trucks they are pretty tall though I can see how some we could live in one but I don't see it I'm not seeing an eight wheel variant here. Oh hold on you're gonna want this you know I'm gonna show to you and then have the frame strength to build a whole day you know a multi rocket launching pod on it and maybe a turret out of the gas and gun yeah it actually has a turret.
It's the founding fathers would have wanted. Yes this is it right here hold on I'll put it on screen for everybody to enjoy because once you see it you can't unsee it and you're gonna want one so don't let your wives see what I'm about to show you gentlemen. Because they're immediately gonna start to say no but you know we're not gonna ask them for their permission or opinion on this it's important. Man needs an eight wheeled overlander gotta have it rig hold on it's just being on re. I need to copy this. This is the best ever and this is not even this guy's first one honestly. He's had several of these are apparently more than one. See if we put this on screen Jane does it for going for vehicles that are essentially next best time to fiction then can I just get a java sand crawler. This is kind of the same thing look at this beast it is so good.
Do you have to have one like why wouldn't you want one of these to you know I mean can you class of drivers license do you need to have to drive one of those for what does your insurance company actually ensure this and that's the next question. I'm sure they would but you wouldn't like how much they cost but then again if you can afford that you could probably afford. The the weird phone call you're gonna get with the insurance company and then the random visit from the FBI. That's why you need a military troop transport vehicle. And his actually it has the turret still and he so he uses it to get access to the roof in order to sit up there and lounge when he's you know in South Africa or some other strange exotic place that he just wants to lounge on top of his eight-wheeled union mug. Oh man they're so good these things would love one it would be funny to turn that into the ultimate like Catholic family transport vehicle.
You go try to drive that to your TLM and the toxic weight part of town and try to park it in the parking lot. That would actually be kind of funny that would also become a meme very quickly. Because at least at our parish you know the parking lot is filled with 15 passenger vans ours is ours being one of them. Jeff Lewis says I can see Dr. Stein in a 57 caddy El Dorado. What was that? I just I don't want to have a 15 passenger van I've driven them and I always feel like I'm gonna roll the thing and I live in a windy part of the country you may you may have heard. You get a few you get a few storms I love my 15 passenger van I absolutely love it actually you know. If I had the money I don't but if I had the money what I would want to do is I want to convert my 15 passenger van into an RV. For my wife and I in our air quotes your golden years.
Where we can travel more together that's something I would love to do and I would cut the roof off my van and put a fiberglass. I have to put a full bathroom in it a little kitchen. I keep one of the benches swivel the the captain's chairs around so you can have a dinette situation you get you get beds to sleep for you get a kitchen you get a bathroom all on the same rig. And man it's got that super solid six cylinder eight of the eight man I think I'll go for another 400 thousand miles. If I treat it well. It'd be great and it's super solid you know suspension I would probably upgrade it to an off road suspension. Put some 35 inch mudders on there just to show off a wee bit I would love to do that I have no money. I like the chival better than the Camaro's in the late 60s says hello I don't be getting we got we I got distracted on cars and we have not turned back since.
I'm talking about barbecue it's right. Oh wouldn't that be nice I had some great barbecue actually fairly recently. Speaking of somebody mentioned the hand you did is it for tomorrow yeah and I had way too much left over I sent like half of it home to the babysitter. Because you smoke did you smoke the brisket or did you just I smoke the brisket. Oh nice. Are you still making carnivore content on that other channel nope. No pie so long time ago my weight was you know you gain enough weight not to worry feel like a giant fraud. Figuratively I'm literally talking about like giving health advice so I just stopped. Besides nobody wanted like food news and really if you look at all the other carnivore content creators they're either doing the well I fell off the wagon and got back on it for the 97th time here's my video diary content which I don't want to watch. Or they're all making like conspiracy theory videos now about like.
The administration and like selling out the beef industry to Bill Gates or something I don't know it got real weird real quick and so yeah that's true. Alright well god love you thanks for hanging out everybody remember to pray for the repose of those souls lost so long ago today. Thanks for the fun chat no matter all the negative crazy news pray for the bishops in Brazil to become Catholic someday their souls could depend upon it let alone the souls in their flocks that would be amazing. You guys have a great weekend we'll see you back here Monday and Dr. Stein as always god love you thank you.
