#2900: Lindsay Clancy Mass Psychosis

0:00The Trumpet Daily Program begins right now. Today's world news, what it means, where it's tickets. I've been using one and only possible for a big, report of peace. This is a message of hope, tremendous hope. And he said, and to me, you must promise I again. The Trumpet Daily Program begins right now. Now, there's one thing that has dominated the US media this week. And that is a trial of Lindsey Clancy. Now, if you knew this one, Lindsey Clancy is a woman who strangled her three children to death while her husband was out of the house. No one is disputing that. But what the case is coming down to is whether she was completely lost to postpartum psychosis when she did so and unable to tell right from wrong. Today, the jury was deadlocked again and it seems that there is one juror that's the holdout, leading the defense to try and put them from the trial. This case is just dark.

1:01It's dark, but it's fascinating. Let's be honest. I mean, the tiktok of the husband going home and finding out what happened to his family is just chilling. And what you have now, after this husband Patrick goes home, he's spent the day with his wife, Lindsey. He's been talking to her. They've been texting. He's seen his children who are all in the young single digits. And he knows that she's been depressed. He knows that she's been inpatient for five days and then not too distant past. But she seems he says to be having a good day. In fact, he describes this as one of her best days in recent weeks. It does not seem to have any indication that his wife is thinking about killing their three children this evening. But the timeline, I think, tells us a lot. She's playing with the kids in the snow. She sends out a picture to the family. She searches online. Kids mirrorlacks. I'm not sure what to make of that. She searches for takeout.

2:02Sends her husband out to CVS. She texts her husband Patrick. We've been working from the basement home office. He wants him to pick up takeout and medication. He leaves the house. Five-fifteen calls from CVS. She calls back. Fourteen-second conversation. What medication to buy? Picks it up and comes home. He finds his wife. What he thinks is dying. And probably she would have been dead had he not found her. On the front lawn having jumped. And with some sort of red marks on her neck and her wrists, though later they were described as superficial. And she tells him, I try to kill myself. He stays with her. He thinks this is the emergency. He stays with her for five minutes. He calls 911. And then he says where the children she says in the basement. So he knew that while he was waiting with her for the four minutes. And when the paramedics arrive, he goes to the basement to check on his children still not realizing that they've been killed. And then in a 911 call that they played in the courtroom.

3:05But they did not release for obvious reasons to. Too dark to distressing. You can hear his exchange with the 911 operator where he calls out that his children have been killed too. And that she's apparently taken some sort of exercise bands. And use them to strangle his children. What part of that is not premeditation as the dispatcher tells him not to move her. Sirens are then heard approaching. I need you to stay with her. I have to go check on my kids. He says is the paramedics arrive. His foot steps through the house can be heard. Oh, no, he screams followed by desperate shrieks. What are you screaming about now? The dispatcher asks, oh my God, Patrick Shouts now crying. The basement. I need help. Patrick screams her heart-rending reports Peter Blendino of the Patriot ledger. She killed the kids. Oh my God. Primal cries and screams follow and heavy breathing.

4:05There is a horrible aspect to this. Three young children strangle to death admittedly by their mother. And people don't seem to talk a lot about the kids. When there is a ligature strangulation, that ligature, such as a stocking, a wire, a cord, an exercise band, is pulled so tightly around the victims neck. That when it's finally removed, the neck is shrunken down. Shrunken down like that because of the manual force used to murder those children. Philosophical, you go to a crime scene and find three dead strangled, ligature strangulation children, children, one of them that tried to run from their mother, children that were put face down so they could not see what was happening to them.

5:07Think about it as an adult being forced your face down in the carpet in the basement and strangled dead. One by one by one systematically. Philosophical blame the medical system, blame the doctors. They didn't strangle these children. She did. So many details about this story that really are just sickening. And you know, you read in the Bible about things not even to dig into because it's just so appalling. And that seems like almost what this kind of a story is like. There's so many, but at the same time it's a perfect illustration really of everything that's wrong with our world, with our nation, with the nations of Israel in particular. Everything is broken. Everything is breaking down if it's not broken.

6:07And again, Herbard Armstrong when he wrote back in the 1950s and 60s about the pendulum swing, going from the old morality thinking to the new morality, it was like going from the frying pan into the fire, he said. So much worse. Because the family, the family, the traditional family was upended. And this is something we've been writing about for decades, really almost a century. The upside down family. And what a threat that poses to all of society. We've gone through some of the details. People outpouring, just an outpouring of support for the murderer, which is unbelievable. In itself. But then all the other angles, the drug addictions that we have, the depression, the mental instability. And then even reading all these articles, talk about the psychosis or whatever the problem is mentally.

7:07And then they can't talk about the real spirit world. They can't bring up the devil. If you murder your three children, you are mentally unstable in the worst way. But that doesn't mean you're the victim, certainly not, or that you don't deserve punishment. Satan and his demons, they are working overtime. Targeting the family, targeting marriage, targeting children. You know what this world needs? Is this book right here? This understanding, this truth, the father's love, the father's love for his children, his family. Was I covered in class this morning from the beginning? We were made incomplete. God knew we needed another spiritual dimension to fill the void, to complete the process, to complete his creation. God's reproducing himself through family.

8:09And you can see why, looking at some of these stories on the news, you can see why. That Satan is targeting the institutions of marriage and family and children and roles, all those things. And it does pose a greater threat as Herbert Armstrong once said. A greater threat than a nuclear bomb does. Because we're exploding. Morality is exploding. Or imploding. 9:12So I forget the states that that vote happened to them. And hopefully you heard the program yesterday on that from Mr. Palmer. Isaiah five. We often go to Isaiah one regarding the sixth, the sickness of our society. Isaiah three shows how the family is upside down. The children are dishonoring and disrespecting their parents. The first commandment with promise. That would be the fifth commandment. To honor your parents. And parents, of course, the implication of that command is that they're honorable people. Or they should be. But here in Isaiah five, it says in verse 20, woe unto them that call evil good and good evil that put darkness for light and light for darkness that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter woe unto them.

10:16Verse 21 says woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes. We're in the very last days of this present evil world. And it's going to get even worse in the lead up to the return of Jesus Christ to this earth. Christ told us this. I spent some time on that last week with the Olivet prophecy. But calling evil good. Hannity is right. You hardly hear anything about the children. But look, what are we 50, 60 years into the abortion era of America? If you can kill them in the womb, well, why not kill them when they're little toddlers as well? And besides, she was mentally unstable. She was depressed. You know, when you heard about the hung jury on Friday, 11 to 1,

11:18if you're thinking the right way, your first thought is there's some crazy wacko guy on the jury that actually thought she should be acquitted. Actually, 11 people thought she should be acquitted. 11 out of 12. Woe unto them that call evil good. Listen to the defense attorney. I think he was on the Sunday shows talking about Lindsey. Talking about Lindsey Clancy, the one who admitted to strangling her three little children. This is clip 12. Anybody that knows Lindsey knows her background. She's very, very intelligent, hardworking theme in the trial that people that knew her. She was a labor and delivery nurse well respected in mass general hospital for about nine years. Just a wonderful neighbor, friend, wife, mother.

12:22Just an incredible person. He says, and he even said she's a wonderful mother. Can you imagine calling evil good? Yeah, she's a great mother. A great person, a great neighbor, a great nurse. What does God think? This is from American greatness. Judge William Sullivan officially declared a mistrial as or in the triple murder trial of Lindsey Clancy on Friday after a jury failed to reach a unanimous version of her mother. She also had to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations, the deadlock was attributed to a single hold-out juror with the rest of the 12 person jury prepared to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. Well here again, the sanity of this woman shouldn't even come into question. She is insane. Demon possessed no doubt.

13:22She heard voices that told her to kill the kids. How would Christ deal with... How would ancient Israel deal with something like this? Just said... There's no judgment in the land. Here we go on and on about mercy and forgiveness. And going soft on penalties, punishment. Just moving on. I mean, if there was cheating or lying in the past, let's just try to prevent it in the future. But no punishment. So here we are. And as I played for you last week, people lined the streets in support of the murderer. Sullivan told the court earlier in the day he would declare a mistrial further on it says that instead of settling for a mistrial, Clancy's lawyer announced that he wanted to appeal to the Massachusetts Supreme Court to remove a holdout juror.

14:23He came out and all but revealed the guy. If they said he was a man and so on, there's just the one and then this defense attorney, he attacks the jury member. It's only going to be a matter of time before he's doxed. That's what so many radical leftists want. They want his... They want his name to be out there, his address, all of those things. And you know why? Because they want to go after him. This is the world that we're living in. Everything's broken. Everything's upside down. We're calling evil good. She's the victim. Listen to this from Fox News, clip three. Lindsey Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, says the jury was split 11 to one in favor of acquitting her. Reddington singling out the one male juror holdout. They were robbed by one man for whatever his agenda was

15:24who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors. And you can see how defeated they were sitting there. And I got a funny feeling that they would have gone on for another week if they had to. So I hope that guy can sleep well at night. Seven... He's the robber, the jury member that said, now she's guilty. He's the thief. He stole seven weeks of the lives of these jurors. Never mind the three lives that Clancy stole. Not all those kids, three little children, just a few years into life. How many years? Supposing they lived to be 70-ish. How many years did she steal? There's plenty of insanity to go around.

16:24All you have to do is look at the various angles of this story. There's lots of sickness. This is Isaiah 3 on display. This is Isaiah 1 on display. This is Isaiah 5 on full display. It's right out there. It's right in the open. This one here is from ABC News, clip 4. Also note here that it's a waiting game for dozens of Clancy supporters that are outside and inside of this courthouse right now. There's nearly three dozen of them up on the third floor outside at the courtroom. Waiting to hear what happens. We've been speaking to them. They say they're here to advocate for more women's mental health. That the case has had a grip on them. The Clancy Clancy team does not want that mistrial. They seem to think that they could be right at the edge of getting a not guilty verdict because of mental insanity, which of course is what they are pushing for. They seem to think that that jury pool is 11 to 1 minus that juror that they claim they believe

17:24is not following the law because the note had said that that juror was expressing doubt. It's unbelievable. The juror is the problem. In most states when an insanity defense is raised, the burden of proof lies with the defendant to prove they were not of sound mind when the crime was committed. Massachusetts law, however, puts the burden of proof on the prosecutor to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was of sound mind. So the defense is over there saying, no, she's crazy. She's insane. And then the prosecutor has to try to prove, no, she's of a sound mind. She knew what she was doing. There's no judgment. Habakkuk won. Where are the just judges? Where are the leaders? Well, they've been taken away.

18:26Where's the fatherly authority? Where's God the father's standard of authority or morality or judgment? There's certainly none of that. In 1950, this is the federalist. Nearly 580,000 people or 0.38% of the U.S. population were receiving long-term hospital care for mental illness. By 2022, the number of impatient hospitalizations for mental health and substance abuse, which often go hand in hand, reached 1.65 million or 0.5% of the population, says, but measuring only the serious cases doesn't give the full picture of America's obsession, a whopping 72% of Gen Z believe they have a mental illness, with more than 40% having received official diagnoses and 60% taking pharmaceutical drugs

19:26to help manage their mental health. We are literally getting sicker by the day, mentally, physically, all of it. I think the father was out buying drugs. She sent them off. And then she strangled the kids one by one. One industry expert explains that the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders cited only about 100 different disorders during its first publication. Today, it lists more than 300. So there you go. More drugs, more sickness. There's more mental diseases now. There's more experts. There's more doctors. There's more branches of health in the government than ever before. Oh yeah, they're just trying to promote good health. And we just keep getting sicker and sicker and sicker.

20:26Family living is on the way down and out, just the traditional family lifestyle, as God ordered it, as God created it. And we're seeing the results on a mass scale. We're just getting sicker and sicker. And then now you use mental illness as a get out of jail card. Yeah, get out for free. Because, you know, after all, she was a good mother. A good mother. I think you use the word wonderful. A wonderful mother. This is what constitutes being a good mother these days. Really is unbelievable. The Lindsey Clancy case is an extreme instance of someone using mental illness as a get out of jail free card. Although Clancy has admitted to strangling and killing her three children. She has claimed temporary psychosis. I guess it was just temporary.

21:27It was, she was sick for those few minutes that she killed her children. I don't know if that's how they argued it in court. But what an insane argument. And you've got plenty of high-powered attorneys that are prepared to argue it. Oh yes. Everyone that knew her knew she was, she was wonderful. The mental health industry thrives off of telling people that all of their worst behaviors can be excused because of illness. So it's not your fault. You're mentally disturbed. You're a little bit insane. Temporarily you go insane. You think Satan and the demons are having a ball with this? They love it. They love it. And it states like Massachusetts. It's even worse because they're led by so many radical leftist thinkers and judges and lawmakers.

22:33That it's easier to get away with crimes such as this. Crimes that you can't even really imagine happening. Even a few years ago. Certainly, certainly not a few decades ago. I think we stopped at Clip 6, play at Clip 6. I mean, we're saying fans turn up in pink shirts with Lindsey Clancy merchandise. We're saying fans, like, this is how divisive and weird it's getting that there are fans of Lindsey Clancy. We are saying, particularly women, blame everyone else except Lindsey Clancy. They're treating her as if she is a victim instead of someone who is actually responsible for killing her three children. So looking at some of the way the media has done this, I've also seen articles where you have to get to kind of line three or four before you actually get to what the issue is, you know, she's called her children, her three children.

23:33And there's just so much sympathy for her out there. So that there's that. And then now it's just being normalized, I think, on social media. A lot of feminists, a lot of women reporters, commentators, mothers, rallying around and supporting Lindsey Clancy. And they're trying to make this a conversation about mental health and, you know, there should be better support for moms. The widespread support, and that's a part of the story as well, that reflects a lot of mental instability for sure. Play this one from CBS clip seven. Catherine, I want to go to you because you were telling me that you know exactly what Lindsey's talking about. You have had psychosis. Yeah. How did it manifest itself for you? What was happening? Well, I was hearing that it started out with hearing some voices. What were they saying? Um, just friendly things. They were friendly voices. Hi, how are you? Are you doing? Um, and then I was seeing visuals off to my side in my peripheral vision.

24:33Shadows of people. Mm-hmm. I lost concepts of time. I was misplacing my baby and other room or other areas of the house. And I didn't know. Um, I just think it's, it's such a scary time for moms. And it's, it's resonated because it. I, I've been there and I know you're not in your reality. You are in two realities at the same time. But how are you able to function if you're having a psychotic break? When you're in psychosis, you can function normally. And no, yes, you can. No one would have ever known. Um, from the outside, from the outside, I was on PTO taking kids to soccer games, picking kids up from school, cooking dinner, making grocery orders. And on the inside, I'm talking to voices during the day because I am completely losing it. This is all over the place. This kind of thinking. This kind of disease quote unquote says at people.com.

25:34Lindsay was a competitive cheerleader in high school and continued the sport when she attended a Quinnipiac University. Per the Boston Globe. She graduated with a bachelor's degree. So fairly well educated. Shortly after welcoming her youngest child in 2022, Lindsay started experiencing severe mental health issues. She subsequently sought treatment from several doctors and was prescribed over a dozen medications by January, 2023. So she was on a lot of drugs. It says here by December of that year, that's 2022. Allison and Lindsay told her that Allison said Lindsay told her that she was in a really tough spot and was experiencing suicidal thoughts nearly every day. In October, 2022, Paula recalled a concerning text message from Lindsay that read,

26:35Mom, will you please come up and stay with me for a bit. I'm really sick. Something is wrong. I had horrible insomnia all night. And I just don't know how I'm going to get through the day. It's just really scary. And I don't want to be alone. Lindsay and Patrick went, she said she was with Lindsay and Patrick when her daughter admitted that she had thoughts of harming the children. So yeah, mental instability for sure. Seems like there is some insanity for sure, but look at how we're dealing with it. Drugs? Lianiency? No punishment? And then the problem just gets worse and you hear more stories. As I say, this is just nice lady. It's actually not an isolated case. It's happening all over the country. And it's getting worse. Got a little mixed up in my notes if I could find you guys know where page seven is joking.

27:42Anyway, CNN says this. Reddington blamed his clients worsening mental state on lousy medical care and alleged her providers failed to thoroughly research her symptoms and medical history. He called witnesses who said Clancy told them after the killings she had heard a male voice instructing her to kill the children and herself, which defense experts described as a command hallucination that was evidence of psychosis. Well, this is just normal. There's a lot and look, there's more mental illnesses that we know of every year. And there's more drugs to work with it to live through it. This is, as I say, pick your chapter. I say a one, three, five. So much sickness. It's everywhere, isn't it? It's everywhere. Play the next clip.

28:43I think it was number eight. This is a case about three children who died of a violent and horrific death at the hands of the person who showed them the most. I appreciate the fact that there are strong feelings and opinions tied to this case. However, I job as a set aside out feelings and focus solely on the facts. The facts are Lindsey Clancy killed her three children and the evidence suggested to us that she was control of her actions when she committed those bombicides. But also speaking in the world that we live today and all too often, criminals are being treated as victims and the real victims are invisible. You only cared when the kids were dead. Why don't you care about the father? You know, listen, I told you my decision on that already. I'll be making that decision shortly. That's the prosecutor, of course.

29:43And then the people standing around supporting the murderer, I guess, visibly, right out in front of the cameras even. This is where we are. Play this one from this is clip 13. So now we were one juror away from this woman who was already raised $1.2 million on what he called it on GoFundMe. And killed her three kids. She could have walked. That's the system we're in right now. Nike parent is nonsense that drive me crazy of she didn't have support. Are you ready for this? Her husband took paternity leave, worked from home to help her, ran her errands, picked up her medications, picked up her food. They had a nanny, both set of a grandparents helped her. She attended an outpatient postpartum program five days a week. Saw six doctors and nurses practitioners and had 13 medications prescribed her. So this whole stop the narrative that she was abandoned and nobody cared and everything. Everything that she did, guys, was methodical.

30:46Yeah, and you heard it in the cold open. She sent off her husband. The it sounds like a stay at home dad. To get drugs to get take out. And then she took the children to the basement one by one to strangle them. And then tried to kill herself in the end too. You heard what these two stories said. Just to go back to the mental health industry. It thrived. This is from the federalist I read it earlier. It thrives off telling people that all of their worst behaviors can be excused because of illness. It explains how a victimhood mentality has eroded our country and our culture. The neuroticism around mental health has enabled children to chop off healthy body parts, prompted the masses to sympathize with the child killer, and coaxed millions of people into thinking that they are broken.

31:51It's like every day on this show. As if you needed more proof every day we're seeing that this is certainly not God's world. We're not living God's way. These are not traditional families that are producing this kind of horrific violence. There are a lot of disturbed people in this sin-drenched world today. A lot of sickness. A lot of drugs. A lot of attorneys that want to get people out of jail. That want to turn criminals into victims. It says so much about our society at the trumpet. Back in 2006, the late Alex Harrison, he says marriage and family are the primary areas of Satan's attacks. My father in an article in 2017, he said if you have a breakdown of biblical morality,

32:53you have a breakdown of the family. If you have a breakdown of the family, you have a breakdown of the nation. But you have something even worse than that, he said. The physical family is not just a convenient and useful arrangement. It's something greater. Unlike the vast majority of journalists and even regular citizens in Britain and the West, let's recognize this undeniable fact. The strength of the nation comes from the strength of the family. And the strength of the family comes from obeying the one book that defines family, the Holy Bible. God created it. God made it. And from the beginning, you know what played out in Genesis 2 and 3? God said to Adam, it's not good that you're alone. And so God created a helper. And then he offered them this additional spirit dimension that they needed, that God created us to need.

33:59And that's where we get sound-mindedness. It comes from God. You can read that in 2 Timothy 1. God hasn't given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. That's the only cure to mental instability. If the truth be told, we're all a little mentally unstable because we're incomplete. Maybe that's taking it a little too far, but you get what I mean. It's the spirit of God that joins together with the human spirit. This is Romans 6, verse 14, verse 16. And then we have God's mind. Then we have a sound mind. Now we have to keep stirring it up, as Paul said to Timothy in that same passage. We have to keep looking into the Word of God, the Holy Book, the book that defines family, the book that defines marriage.

35:06You get away from that, and everything begins to break down. Mr. Armstrong put it this way, in the missing dimension in sex, he says, since it is a basic truism that a solid family structure is the foundational bulwark of any stable and permanent society, this fact means only one thing. Civilization, as we know it, is on the way down and out. Unless that great unseen strong hand from someplace soon intervenes and saves today's six society. We need God to intervene to save us. We're a six society. Family breakdown, divorce, promiscuity, upside down roles. This is the way of the numerality. Oh, it was so liberating, wasn't it? Freedom! Freedom to sin, no consequences. Just keep right on sinning.

36:07And that's what we've been doing. Our society is sick because the family is broken. That's where, like my father said, in that 2017 piece, that's where we get our strength. It's more than just a convenient institution. It's where the strength of the nation resides. And when that breaks down, everything falls apart. 1980. If family life breaks down, all civilization will break down and go into anarchy. It says in 1973, this is Mr. Armstrong too, the very foundation of any nation's solidarity, strength, and power is a solid and stable family structure. It says when a nation's family life is breaking down, the nation is disintegrating, committing national suicide. Those are strong statements. Those are huge statements. Those are true statements. We were right. He was right.

39:13Across the UK, in every place, there is a crisis building. Behind closed doors, more than a million young people who go nowhere do nothing every single day. Channel 4 news can reveal the scale of the mental health emergency inside UK policing, including suicides. A situation described by those on the ground as an ongoing tragedy that must be confronted. And we know that the pandemic in general and the lockdown specifically dealt a very severe blow to people's mental health and well-being. Hospitals across the country are struggling to cope with high numbers of patients attending A&D in a mental health crisis. There is just so much evidence that seems to say that what we are currently doing is not... Well, I think we all know it's not working because we've seen problems proliferating.

40:13And even if it comes down to the COVID pandemic, which has obviously caused a lot of problems, there are some young people who have come out of that situation far better than others. And it's trying to find the common factors in resilience, I think. When you say it's not working, the figures there about teenagers on anti-depressants. So we're giving people drugs now for anti-depressants. And it said drugs rolled out of 13 to 19 year olds increased by 25% between 2016 and 2020. That can't be the way forward. That's of course coming out of the UK. Our children, our teens, on all kinds of drugs. The moms run drugs. Lots of mental instability. This article here, children as young as six are suffering mental health crises and turning to accident and emergency in the UK for help after failing to get care elsewhere.

41:14In 2025, 75,000 patients aged six to 17 attended emergency departments in England with a recorded mental health concern up from 55,000 in 2019. So what's happening? Why is this happening with such greater frequency in just the last five, six years? The rise has been fastest among children aged six to nine. A six year old, mentally unstable, some kind of mental illness. Why is it American Britain leading the way? Why don't you, why don't you hear about these kinds of stats and figures in other, or even in third world nations? Mr. Armstrong used to have these brilliant montages where he would give you a world view. He'd go right around and in the showing footage I mean of third world suffering, poverty, malnourishment and so on.

42:19And then he would switch over to the Western world, primarily American Britain. And he'd show that we have all the technology, we have all of the wealth physically, but we're spiritually impoverished. We're mentally ill. I mean those were back from the 1980s, some of those world tomorrow broadcasts. So much filth in the world today, so much sickness, so much dizzy, and we're just discovering more sicknesses, more mental illnesses, it seems with each passing year. And then we think, well, that's not my fault. I didn't kill the kids. It was the voice, the voice in my head that made me do it. This American thinker piece, the death of moral absolutes revealed by the Lindsey Clancy trial. This is something that almost sounds like it comes straight out of principles of living right here at God's college.

43:27Who do we look to for the moral authority of what's right and wrong? The absolute moral authority. Who do we go to? Human reasoning or do we go to God? There was a time when civilization understood a distinction that modern America seems increasingly determined to erase. Explaining evil is not the same as absolving it. That distinction sits at the center of the Lindsey Clancy case. But the issue is much larger than one Massachusetts courtroom, one defendant, or even the almost incomprehensible deaths of three children. The deeper question is whether we remain capable of acknowledging human suffering without allowing suffering to consume the very concept of moral agency, Lindsey killed her three children, Korra, Dawson, and Callan.

44:29That basic fact was not disputed at trial. The battle was over criminal responsibility. Her defense argued that post-partum psychosis had so thoroughly compromised her mind that she could not be held legally responsible. Prosecutors argued that her behavior demonstrated deliberation and an understanding of what she was doing. It says after weeks of testimony and seven days of deliberation the jury could not unanimously resolve that question. And a mistrial was declared. This guy says, you know, I've followed this case closely. And there's a number of disturbing angles to the case. He says this is where modernity collides with an older understanding of morality. Christianity begins with the uncomfortable proposition that human beings possess moral agency.

45:33Scripture does not pretend that temptation, anguish, weakness, fear, anger, despair, or even profound suffering ceased to exist. In the contrary, the Bible is populated by profoundly broken people, people that make mistakes, people that make big mistakes. The prophet Jeremiah described the human heart as desperately wicked. Well, that's refreshing to hear this. Whether out American thinker or wherever. That's Jeremiah 179. He doesn't cite the Scripture like we would at the trumpet, but still. He's got it right. Paul wrote about doing what he hated while failing to do what he knew was right. That's Roman 7. Christianity therefore recognizes something modern, therapeutic, culture increasingly struggles to articulate.

46:37Human beings can be wounded and morally accountable simultaneously. Nietzsche approached the matter from an entirely different theological direction. Yeah, he also understood the danger of societies that continually reconstruct their moral vocabulary according to convenience. A little bit of moral relativity, a little value adjustment, as Alan Bloom once said. And you can feel better about yourself. This has been going on for generations. And we're at the final incomprehensible stages of this slide into the abyss. Once morality becomes infinitely negotiable, judgment eventually becomes a contest of narratives rather than principles. That is precisely what concerns me.

47:37So you have the arguing and the debating. Judgment is broken. We're drifting toward a civilization of situational morality in which the question is no longer simply what happened. It becomes whose circumstances make what happened understandable enough that we are uncomfortable judging it. Modern culture wants grace without judgment, forgiveness without repentance, understanding without accountability and compassion without moral boundaries. As I say, except for Jesus Christ from cover to cover, the principle characters of Scripture had some pretty big flaws. And that's why a theme that runs right through the Bible is obviously repentance. Change! That's what John the Baptist came and preached.

48:40That's what Jesus started with his preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of God. He said, repent. Change! This morning in class we were again looking at Mr. Armstrong's example. What led up to his conversion and he talked about being cocky and conceded, having too much self-confidence. But he said, you know, I was ambitious and sincere as well. And in a way, God had a lot to work with once he struck me down, like God did with the Apostle Paul. But then he had to admit that the goal he had and the direction he was going in was completely wrong. It wasn't the right goal. So he had to change. And did he ever change? He had to sacrifice everything that he had been so excited about that he had his heart sent on.

49:47And he turned and instead started giving to God in his work, serving, sacrificing, sharing. This is the same thing Paul did and he felt like he was one of the least of the Apostles because of his past, his wretched past. David made some egregious mistakes. A murderer. He murdered someone. And God came and said, you're the man, you're guilty. And David repented. He repented of those mistakes, those sins, those faults. And he got his life on track. That's what conversion is about. It's about receiving the mind of God, letting the mind of Jesus Christ in, Philippians 2.5, and being converted into a God being.

50:54Let us make man in our image and likeness. That's Genesis 1.26. That's right there in the first chapter of the Bible. God wasn't vague about his purpose. He was straight forward. Here it is. This is what I'm doing. Why won't we look to him? If he's the maker, if he's the creator, and then he gives us this wonderful instruction book to show us the way, the way to, among other things, sound-mindedness, the way to the mind of Christ, the way to godly perfection, holiness. It says here, most importantly, just to wrap up this American thinker piece. We can look upon three dead children and resist our compulsive, modern desire to make the person who killed them, the central object of our compassion, once right and wrong, become infinitely negotiable.

51:58They eventually cease to mean anything at all. He says, five might have read that. He says, finally, a civilization cannot survive indefinitely on therapeutic language alone. It requires boundaries. It requires conscience. It requires mercy. It requires justice. And sometimes it requires the courage to say something are increasingly relativistic culture considers almost primitive. Some things are simply wrong. There is such a thing as evil. There is such a thing as sin. Now Satan wants us to think there is no such thing. And so there is every possible excuse that you could come up with that even excuses murder. And if you go back to the 1970s, when we opened the floodgates to murdering the unborn, well look at where we are today, and look at who's leading the way in these many crimes.

53:07In this kind of gross immorality and sickness, that would be America, and that would be Britain. We can talk all that we want about a so-called religious revival, but look at our sin-drenched world. Look at the world, the way that God does, and then view the coming world, the way he does, and the way he describes it in the Bible. The hope, 1 John 3 verses 1 through 3, talk about the hope that moves us forward. It serves as such motivation to clean up our lives, to purify ourselves, to come out of sin. You see how sinful and wretched and wicked this world is, and we need to be running the opposite direction, coming out of this world and running or returning to the Father and His love.
