just finds things that seem to be more important than this podcast that happens yeah that's okay

I mean we've been we've been passed over by other people before it's no big deal a hoppy will return

getting ready to can you say this put it in perspective how big among the biggest biggest game ever

I don't know about ever hosting since 1992 yeah that's a long time I mean we think about that we'll

get into that but that's that's wild I know we talked about it with Sydney and Jordan on Monday but

that's massive and if you think about it really what was that nearly 40 years don't do public math

but eight plus 26 is 34 years yeah for you guys before the game we'll get into a mountaineer

men's basketball also they're kind of in their spring break quiet period plus we have something

while we're recording here that is incredibly weird because we've often set on this program the

best two days of the year sports wise are the first two days of the NCAA tournament love it we

happen to be recording just as the ball has gone into the air to start today's 16 games which by

the way let me interrupt excuse me for a minute I'll be right back as I fix something with that he's

losing his mind because we just have we have four TVs in here monitors and two of them are digitizing

out and you can't see anything and so he is absolutely he's just gone to the different level he just

went upset turn the HD monitors to to SD just to make sure you could see the game so anyway it's

weird because we're going to be looking to watch these games by the time you listen to this these

games are over that big 12 right off the bat against TCU against Ohio State let's do it three guys

five o'clock west Virginia and Miami of Ohio inside Hope College CM you all know the setup to this

game we had both Jordan Harrison and Sydney Shaw in on Monday did a great show with those folks if

you haven't caught that one by chance we strongly encourage you to go back and give it a listen watch

even before they play here on Saturday because I think it will give you really super neat insight

into both of those ladies meanwhile big baseball weekend don't let this baseball weekend go by

this kind of as a weird baseball series you know they kind of say like sliding in in the darkness

of night I think about this it's going to catch people off guard because normally weekend baseball

series or what Friday Saturday Sunday this one had to make some changes Thursday Friday Saturday

because West Virginia plays BYU and BYU does not play sport do not play sport on Sundays so as a result

you have that first change so you might go like waste second Friday's no it's not

then because of potential weather which now looks to be in good shape they move the times up

so this Thursday game as we record that one goes at 430 eastern and then tomorrow goes a little bit

earlier tomorrow supposed to be beautiful gorgeous and then Saturday goes as regularly scheduled time

but like this baseball series this weekend series will be over if everything goes well like 4 o'clock

on Saturday done nice Saturday too I think right oh yeah nice temperature wise yeah so the mountain

years one two out of three to open up the series season in the big 12 against be Baylor last Saturday

on the road now they come home see if they can get three against the Cougs Cougs were picked toward

the bottom of the big 12 standings so Steve Sabons and crew will be swinging them here starting

later on today and we wish those guys the very best meanwhile been kind of a quiet week

over on Daniel and drive has been sort of kind of because no one ever fully leaves but spring practice

off this week and spring practice will resume next week and now the thing will go super fast

one spring break so like I'm calling I'm calling spring semester over

like some people might be a tad premature some people say I get ahead of myself a little bit on

daylight savings time and things like that but basically let's face it man so you know and I know

semester's over after spring break you come back from spring break if you do go south right

you got a tan and so you're compelled now to go like man I felt that son I'm really not going

back inside the library and buildings like I'm staying outside more and more and more and more

then you know what happens Brad so you're basically wishing everybody happy fourth of July today

well it's basically how you operate not quite that far but I but I am going to say knowing Ben

there once when spring breaks over man it's just like straight downhill spring practice will go fast

yeah it'll be done yeah so we'll keep a we'll keep a tab we'll keep a tab on that we have not done

textual healing in a bit because we had that prolonged period where we didn't do two shows in a

week because of the big 12 tournament and then we had the ladies in on Monday so we didn't want

a we had a limited time in the schedule because I told you I had a bingo game coming in here at six

made a clear studio clear the studio up but so we're going to catch back up with textual healing

from those folks all right so sound like a plan you guys a little bit on a lot of things yeah it's

here's a deal man but then it's he realized it's going to kick back in heavy because basketball men's

basketball is going to suddenly be back in engage practicing starting next week football will be

starting next week so we'll be heavy into both of those hundred percent and we'll hopefully still

be playing they get through this weekend can win a couple yeah they get some excitement coming up

nice thing about this crown basketball tournament if you go all the way and you win it like the day

after it's over you get one day and the next season starts basically out thought how it works

when you think about this you're leaving you're leaving West Virginia will leave on its last road

trip on the last day of March but you know as we've talked many times this stuff never ends

no because we're going to play to on the men's basketball side we're going to play playing the

crown and then the the portal is going to be open within a couple days after five yeah because the

national championship will hit that Monday then the portal will open we'll start getting announcements

in here in the the new mountain eroster will start to be assembled yeah well football is going on

yeah so we got a lot coming we took springs are different than they used to be

yeah a lot more news even they used to be have we chatted about miles sadler we didn't chat miles

we're not talking about him no because we had ladies oh my oh my that should be that should be an

emergency podcast miles sadler edition so here's my deal if you're a long time listener I used to do

this I used to host a show called sport line and some of us on the show are still on sports line by

the way you guys still the show didn't end when you left oh no we continue we we went ahead and

decided we're going to continue to do it every single night so just because you I know you don't

listen you thought everybody else went away no still there every night listen some still there I

listen some so I've told you this story Jonathan Hargit's coming out of high school West Virginia

signs Jonathan Hargit and I got to go see him play and he's playing in the Saint James

invitational in Hagerstown Maryland which I don't know if it still has the same

bang or brand equity to it but it was like the big time event so myself Greg Hunter

Warren Baker and I forget who else maybe that was all of us or maybe there was somebody else

we get in a car and we drive over the mountain and we go to the Saint James and we're going to watch

Hargit and so I come back and I was wowed by him and I said I have seen the future of WVU basketball

and the future is incredibly bright Jonathan comes in obviously things don't work out

not necessarily there's some moments oh no no no not necessarily like he was going to be a player

but there was all the off-court stuff which led to the entire implosion of everything so at that point

I made a commitment to myself and I said never ever again am I going to come out and go like

I've seen the future in the future is bright now with that being said I watched Miles' last two

games at that tournament hold on before you move forward I don't want to ruin your story there

what an entirely true you did then take a trip over to watch Duce McBride and Oscar Shibway

when they played here so Hargit wasn't the only time you watched a high school player live

but no no no I'm not saying no no no you're missing me no I know I pontificated that they're

future you pontificated about Oscar a little bit too now you're right I'm not being player of the year

national national play national conference player you're right yeah anyway so I watched Miles

two games last week at that event and the thing that stood out to me he does have a similar style of

game of play of Jonathan Hargit might shoot it a little bit better right now but um

willing passer great floor vision um ability to handle the ability to go north south rather than

east west to paint touch the ball so he has all these hours now I'm not saying pro I'm not saying

first team all confident I'm not saying anything this is what I'm saying he will be a very very nice

addition to what else they put around him but with the same time as you said as soon as the seasons

over in Las Vegas practice starts for next year when they when when the the freshman do get here

and the new team gets here he has got a ton of work to do defensively and that's not anything

against him it's just that you're not asked to play defense there or at that level the way

you're going to be asked to play at college or in Ross and a lot of its communication when you get

here with Ross Hodge it's less about can you get down and guard somebody I have no doubt he'll be

able to do that it's more about just the communication in the system and what you're doing his ability to

distribute was really impressive I knew he could score I knew he could shoot I knew he can handle

those guys had a really hard time that's other D1 guys on the floor with him they they couldn't

stay in front of him he did whatever he wanted dribbled out of traps dribbled out of hard hedges

but his ability to distribute and not just find the open guy place the ball exactly where it needed

to be either in stride or in a shooting pocket that was that was really impressive I'm excited to

watch him I think that height could be real now we'll see again as we as we know it's hard to mix

into the big 12 but we saw this past year a lot of freshman with high level impact in this league

oh yeah you could do it seen it all over the country too freshman walking in and having high level

impacts I'm excited to get him here he had an unbelievable run three wins over top five teams

three wins in three days one the tournament four games in four days they ascended to number one

in the SC next national rankings as we said last week he was the MVP of that league the YBL league

that's high cotton your MVP of that thing yes so very impressive yeah really impressive and I think

fans will like him great personality smiley good dude we we traded with him last week I can't

remember big 12 try this a big 12 term it seemed like it was nine weeks does while we're at the

big 12 term and he was eating dinner and then I was way back to the gym to get another work at it

yeah so we had a quick chat and he says he's he's he's gone home ready to ready to come away to get

here all right coming up we'll do spreads on stats we're going to do wv women against Miami of Ohio

so like I shouldn't even update these scores like this TCU thing now no no no let's go horn

against Miami of Ohio it's time for spreads on stats yes I check the numbers

West Virginia is a big favorite in this game your numbers indicate should be what are you saying

well should be I mean you're hosting you're one of the 16 best teams in America seed wise so yeah you

should be a favorite anything make you go wow well it's this is also you can't necessarily sleep on

an NCAA tournament team either yeah Miami ever let's dive into some of these numbers they are

Miami a really good defensive team also in fact they have a better defensive rating in terms of points

given up per one hundred possession possessions than West Virginia does now different competition of

course but they thrive off points off turnovers as well 89th percentile are the red hawks 19 points

off turnovers per game West Virginia averages 25 points per game in that category 98th percentile

so that'll be something to watch as it always is when West Virginia takes the floor is that a massive

advantage for WVU can Miami keep it close we've seen a couple games this year where West Virginia

has some turnover issues itself so that's something Miami likes to do and create points that way

offensively four players averaging double figures and this was interesting one of the best half

court offenses in the country on a points per possession basis top ten percent nationally so

if they're able to handle West Virginia's back court pressure and get it into the half court

their numbers tell you that they're very very good when they get in the half court they're one

of the best on guarded catch and shoot teams in the country 99th percentile and points per shot

this is the best we've seen men's or women's in evaluating a game this year they're 42% from three

when left open that puts them in the top one percent of all teams nationally when left on guarded

sometimes that can happen to West Virginia when they're scramble all over trying to four steals

if you move the ball you can get some open shots here's where these games always get a little bit

tricky and you can't look past anybody even if you're a big favorite you look if you were choosing

upsets on the men's or women's side you want teams that are high three point variance teams

usually you want a slower fewer possession game and you want high three point attempts because

if you're making them then then you win the game you saw Miami's men's team do that last night

hitting their first four record 16 threes out of 41 attempts that's what they want to do they

want to create threes those start following following get a math problem I'm happy they want Miami

is 90th percentile in three point attempts per game averaging about 25 and they shoot it really

well overall 38% as a team they have seven players that have played 400 minutes or more

four of them shoot 37% are better from three so they're going to space you out get around the arc

hope that they can break the pressure and handle the pressure then move it around and take a

bunch of three guard man got a guard you got to find the shooter premium guarding and win left open

they're the best in the country they are so two things wins and losses they lost to Colorado

by 20 earlier this year played Purdue and lost to them and they beat Cincinnati another big 12 team

by four so one and one against the big 12 talk to me more a little bit more about their propensity

to turn the ball over can you heat them up with your athleticism and get them totally flummoxed

can you their turnover percentages pretty low I'm sorry it's pretty high so yes you may be able to

they turn over 21% of time that's a lot schedule a little bit less schedule strength you mentioned

three pretty good teams right there overall schedule strength quality of schedule yeah I mean Mac it's

it's good it's not the big 12 so that's going to be the thing can you come in here and heat them

up in front of what will be a I would think a raucous crowd I was going to go rock them on source

yeah you got to go rock I think raucous is the only thing you can use yeah yeah hyped wouldn't work

raucous definitely as much better than that but they've got multiple players I mean you come in with

four averaging double figures they're leading score amber treader I thought this was interesting

when you look at her career numbers she's in her third season with Miami she played 2729 minutes

so it's a veteran right she's played 3000 rarity in today's game she's played some games so we'll say

I didn't look into this yet what was the last time they were in the tournament are they a perennial

or is this a whole new world for them come back not here just a second look at their number one of

their other double figure scores has played 3300 minutes so I got a little experience Jordan

remember Jordan was over 4,000 when she was in here on Monday that's a ton I think that if this is

the first time you're in this tournament it is a bit of a wow right it's a different everything

changes even the hope calcium will look different right you'll have the you'll have the NCAA tournament

logos all over the the court press table the press tables coming down I understand I think the press

tables coming down I mean neutral right press tables coming down and you'll see a lot more of that

so West Virginia obviously not all of these ladies have been in to the NCAA but there are multiple

that have played in the sense E. W. A. tournament so I think that's a huge advantage so if this is all

new for Miami of Ohio then you might be able to catch them in a little bit of a bump potentially

okay next week unless sometimes I'm just doing some research I understand next week as we said

what WVU's men's basketball team will resume practice as they start to get ready for its matchup

against Stanford a Buka Okori a Buka Okori probably the best player in college that you have not

heard a lot about yet this season West Virginia will face him freshman guard from New Hampshire

that is blowing it up at Stanford 23 points per game so if you haven't seen him play I put out a

tweet and you can just look up his name and find it dynamic as impressive now not as good shooting

percentage probably from three then Kingston Flemmings but in the lane the highlight film I've seen

I mean he's right there and perhaps a little bit more in level of difficulty his start and stop

might be better his start and stops not far off from what honor start and stop is where people have

so much trouble staying in front of him that's going to we'll get into an extensive scouting

report on him but that's going to be a show a lot of jerseys and getting the gaps now picked

a nice job on him in the ACC tournament in the win they held him fairly in check but that's going

to be a big challenge go back to Miami for a second now they come in this particular group over the

last couple years they've won a ton of games they were 28 and six last year or excuse me this year

last year one 19 games as well but they have not appeared if this is accurate in an NCAA tournament

since 2008 so it's been a little bit here yeah now this is one where if you're West Virginia obviously

you got to use the home court cheer advantage you were so hard to get to this what we call it a

raucous environment mm-hmm use it to your advantage yeah go get him oh it will be go handle it I think

it'll be stupid I think it will too yeah I think I think I think mountaineer fans will be will be

lathered up and you could call them raucous three guys before the game is brought to us by

up again we also have historic stuff going on because Nebraska is trying to play in it they're

trying to win its first ever NCAA tournament game think about that really remarkable say that

say that again to a remarkable state University of Nebraska has never won a man's game in the NCAA

basketball tournament the Brad and I were on hand to see them lose 1998 boys the Idaho Tyron Tyron

Lou was their point guard amazing think how long ago that was he's been coaching a league for about

a hundred years now yeah so I really had that big red thing that danced on its head I love that

inflatable thing as the name is big red so I just said as I would you say but you gave him his name

big red is a big red so West Virginia they had the big bouncy head thing then Nebraska thing he

just bounce on his head you remember that West Virginia got one shortly thereafter WVQ mountaineer

couldn't do as many tricks I had to mount that the the the coonskin captain not alone he's a lot of

bounce stuff they red had a baseball hat on he could still do it yeah they should bring back that

bouncy head thing that was a great one mean than Nebraska one was I like the mountaineer mask

the big ones it could have been better it wasn't managed for a while to be perfectly candid

as I said these texts bounce around from various times over the last couple of weeks

but I want to hit you with this we talk about day of caring WVU does its day of caring that's

coming up Wednesday at this coming Wednesday March 25 and three guys has been involved with a

couple of different funds one being the connection 304 funds so really quick connection 304

so inclined both of those would be awesome options but wherever you give we'd be appreciative yeah

that's it's an unbelievable program because they teach these kids the music business and then

they're literally out there and they are performing and they're recording and they're doing the whole

thing so that's also a super good thing one other thing shout out to you've heard of the climbers

program that's used to be known as fifth quarter fifth quarter I don't know if they still fifth

quarter climbers but anyway it takes WVU athletes and it gives them real world experience and

getting them ready for life after school and Ren Baker has expanded that program and now we're

getting in some other sports besides football so we've got some women's sports teams that are

now involved and because it was spring break they took a micro internship over the last couple

of days and one of the places Brad that they visited have you ever heard of hug heard of it

pretty big brand pretty big brand so here's a picture or two from the student athletes visit

to the hug place that's right in the showroom in the office is their New York City right wonder who

that guy is first row left with that plaid don't know jacket on it looks awfully dog on familiar

anyway shout out to the ladies that are in there we've got Emily Bryce track and field May Nelson

track and field Gianna Coss you know Gianna Coss plays soccer Brad at West Virginia her grandfather

Frank Signetti sir which makes her uncle hurt signatics right he won a world's championship

in football he did earlier this year McKenna Wozni women swimming and diving they are all elite

students academic big 12 honor roles in the picture just them yeah that's just the ladies right

there so they had a big time at hug I still say and there's a footballers including our boy Nick

Craig right hey pass in there pass visitor on the show so we had some footballers and it used to

there's a land in Livingston's far left there and so they had a big time a great program wonderful

great program can you go back to that first picture again Jake I have seen that guy in the front

row in the plaid jacket and I think he just looks like somebody you know and I know he looks

he looks incredibly familiar meanwhile hey three guys just settling in after a weekend trip down

to Waco so this is this is back from the Baylor baseball series I was driving back starting to

think back to my last trip there in 23 season started the most recent run of postseason appearances

yet at the time not including myself there may have been 10 people in attendance wearing golden

blue now jump ahead 26 visitors section packed throughout the weekend and at various locations I

visited it was a good reflection on how far the baseball program has come and even more so over

the past few years on the way out sweet security guard who I'd seen all weekend told me thanks for

coming yet I felt obligated to hit her with a thanks for having us yeah I should be none the wiser

it truly was a great weekend to be a mountaineer there's Cody in Fort Worth by way of Ravenswood

that's why the thanks for having us is soon it's perfect on your way I just thanks for having us

it's very nice thing to say mm-hmm absolutely yeah this isn't interesting we met Cody the TCU game

he's on a picture he had a picture there um Jake if you see it anywhere floating around it you

can see the baseball you can see the green and the gold of um Baylor it's there somewhere feel free

that bass oh there it is yeah I pretty good see I've been to that stadium it's nice so what's

Virginia was there on a two day basketball layover in the season it just started it was freezing cold

and I went over there like they played like Houston Baptist and I sat there watch them

that was great good weekend uh Brad says basketball officials performances should be brought up and

discussed he says they should be available to ask about bad calls and explain why they did certain

things if we should be able to do that then why not be able to bring up individual players play

they are being paid and what that they do has ramifications in all kinds of ways too

what do you think he's referring to individual players are bright criticisms of individual

players are brought up constantly in every format there is I think he went I think he wants some like

named name like Johnny Jones man that he sucked Johnny Jones missed 15 shots why is he

shooting that I think he wants a little bit of that that's available if you'd like to find that

that means here well I think we talk about performances every time we're on the air

yeah I mean this is not I mean I don't need to tell you I mean we never have gotten on kids

and I understand what you're saying now that they're getting paid I get that part of it but I mean

just absolutely torching kids like you'd hear on like Philadelphia talk radio or New York talk

radio like no that's that's not us not not not what we do meanwhile

junior is this like he's got a fluorescent green flying wv in your mouth is cringing because you

used to be in this world and that makes you hyperventilate when you see something that's illegal

well I assume the filters just off on that he he would wear it he wouldn't wear a neon green

no he did find wv net oh no that wouldn't be possible he did because and until I saw that picture

I'd wondered where that had gone out of my closet yeah and then I said he took it and not only did he

take it he wore it had to be that glass floor reflecting up he wouldn't have worn that poor

the season that we would have finished 18 and 13 9 and 9 of the big 12 I would have taken that

without hesitation this team's fight has been fun to watch hopefully we can win some games

in tournament play get up to 20 Hodges the guy for the job texture I chuckled when I heard

Fran for shella on the TV broadcast talk about Jay right giving him grief about saying villain over

thought of you guys I know I lose points for not listening to the radio broadcast as first reported

that's awesome Jay caught it too yeah I didn't know and now and now Fran has been he has been exposed

for saying villain over he's not the only one no that's funny a lot of people in the north he's

given a villain over and an Oklahoma hey three guys I already did that one same one same one did

coach the stiff arm also did you know that Andy Reed was at the big 12 games ESPN only told us

counsel and you had my homes across the way that doesn't hurt right texture Jordan and Sydney maybe

one of your best episodes ever impressive young ladies for sure Sydney staying one more year at

Jordan Harrison one of the toughest competitors ever at WVU great job guys yeah I do when she

the lineage of defensive player of the years that have come through here and then quite frankly

every time I'm looking at going how unhealthy do that yeah how did he do that which you know what it

against other conferences and get crews that don't officiate the same way they do in the big 12

or they don't allow the physicality that's a that's a factor in these games you should get solid

officials at the crown because by the time West Virginia plays you just what you will not have you'll

have the only officials you're not going to get are the ones that are going to work the final four

in the title game everyone else is in the mix agree you just but it matter style if you get

some guys that spend their whole season in the ACC that is called completely differently than the

applaud your comments concerning lower level officials I've been officiating high school sports going

on 20 years started late looking back wish I would have started when I was younger I'm 63

there are a lot of dedicated officials out there trying to give the kids the best possible

officiated game but unfortunately no matter how much they try there are good people who are poor

officials that's a great line hey guess what there's really good people that are poor officials

it's it is tough even for fellow pros sadly even great lower level officials take abuse the turnover

of younger officials extremely high the bulk of officials in west Virginia are getting older

if things don't somehow turn around in the next five years we'll see even more shortages

Tony is absolutely spot on about mental and physical fatigue I sometimes go six days a week

it's not easy juggling your job that pays the bills and then trailing up to two and a half hours

each way for games and then do it again tomorrow I 100 percent agree with Brad

and that officials need accountability at every level but especially at the D1 level most high

school officials try to get honest reviews from their fellow peers and even respected coaches

concerning their performances film review a big key for wanting to improve I could go on

but this text is long already again I appreciate your comments love your show

signed by a tired official in west Virginia yes yeah I think that's the bigger concern it's not

at the division one level that they've you've reached that level you can handle the discussion

around your performance I think you get in these lower levels Tony and this gentleman's absolutely

right you got to be worried about shortages coming we've seen that and quite frankly some of the

things I've seen in youth basketball are just absolutely important just ridiculous how people

treat officials at that level that to me is where the bigger concern lies in the treatment of

officials in youth middle school high school the guys doing these games it can tune that stuff out

for the most part I mean that's part of the deal they've risen to that level that's part of the

deal they're used to the criticism of their performance when warranted I think it's those other

lower levels that's where I have a ton of respect for anybody that's out there doing that in the

the textures right we certainly need more of those I mean there's a way to fix it but it's almost

impossible to fix it if you get if you get people screaming and you just systematically just say

you're gone and just are booting people I know it'll call it initially it will cause absolute hell

but you know what over a period of time if they get it and they know and you get run it will take

away somewhat but that I guess I said it's almost impossible that's tough oh I know I have to have

a little personal responsibility too when you're losing your mind and threatening officials and

you're at the third and fourth grade level got an issue I get you got an issue see it all time

so potatoes to those folks did we do everything we're supposed to do I don't know probably not

this is going to be one of those ones where after we stop recording like oh crap we forgot to

think real quick likely we did day of giving on the 25th connection 304 fund yeah have any

events coming we do but not quite yet yeah we got stuff coming but nothing is imminent in the next

week or so football update coming next week yeah then's basketball update coming next week

story of the weeks women's basketball yeah we'll be back right full team on a world championship

do we talk about that last show we need to get John on here I've thought about that I was actually

going to get him on today yeah we need to get him on I wanted but I was said well we might have
