تُعد رواية "البحر، البحر" (The Sea, The Sea) ملحمة سيكولوجية وفلسفية فذة حازت على جائزة البوكر عام 1978، وتعتبر من أهم كلاسيكيات الأدب الإنجليزي المعاصر. تروي الرواية قصة "تشارلز آروبي"، وهو مخرج وممثل مسرحي شهير يتسم بالغطرسة والنرجسية، يقرر في سن الستين اعتزال صخب لندن واللجوء إلى منزل قديم ومنعزل على ساحل البحر (يُدعى شروف إند) لكتابة مذكراته وترميم روحه بعيداً عن أضواء الشهرة.
