Whether the action is at the link or the bank,
there's never an off day on Broad Street.
It's the biggest news of the day, every day,
with takes from someone who's never short on them.
It's Wi-P Daily with Joe Julio.
Welcome on in at Wi-P Daily, Joe.
Julio, if you appreciate everyone listening,
subscribing, following the podcast.
YouTube feed is 94 Wi-P check it out there.
What a day we got going on.
It is opening day, opening day around,
baseball, I don't count last night.
Yankees and Giants, I think it was a dud.
It was nice that baseball back on TV,
even though it was Netflix, I don't know,
what the hell that broadcast was in the beginning,
that people dancing and factions on the field
and James Winston.
I don't know.
Today's opening day for me.
And for us, here in Philadelphia, 415,
the Phillies and the Texas Rangers.
I cannot wait.
We're doing the show live.
If you're coming down, come on and say,
I will be on the concourse in the Wi-P booth
doing the show from 10 to 2.
And then the afternoon show will get you,
lead you right into the baseball game today,
with Christopher Sanchez on the mound.
So a lot of Phillies, I wrote on my news on this morning,
my 26th bowl predictions for the season.
Some of you love some of you all,
that's the nature of bowl predictions.
But I wanted to talk on today's episode
about yesterday and the winner of the afternoon show
insider of the year, Eagles,
insider of the year, Diana Rossini of the athletics.
So I've got five takeaways.
Five things I learned from Diana Rossini
winning the Wi-P Eagles insider of the year.
Of course, last year was I learned
from her parks this year is Diana Rossini.
Number one, and the first and foremost,
the biggest thing that I took away from her winning
is she deserves an apology, probably from you,
not from me, but certainly from a lot of people.
They may be not used specifically,
but a lot of people out there over the past six, eight months
have really tried to discredit Diana's reporting
on the AJ Brown thing.
When I think she's been the most spot on,
the most spot on of any insider around the NFL
on the AJ Brown thing.
She was the first and then the clearest
to signal dissatisfaction from AJ Brown.
That could manifest itself into a trade.
And we all saw dissatisfaction here for years,
but she's the first one that said,
hey, keep an eye on this.
This could lead to a trade,
which I think everyone would have clear mind
thinks it still will.
And she was on it from the jump.
She didn't get off it.
She has done an incredible job reporting on this.
And I think sometimes as stands, we have this thing,
where we don't, and honestly,
if this is more than a sports thing,
it's kind of a real world thing.
If we don't like the message,
we get mad at the messenger.
We don't like what's happening.
We get mad at the person who's illuminating lights
on what is happening.
And that is what it's like.
That's what Diana's routine is job is.
She's a national NFL reporter and insider.
And she has put light on the AJ Brown situation.
And instead of asking yourself,
why remote she hates the Eagles,
which is one of the Eagles inside of here.
And I believe her husband from the area that Eagles stand,
just no hate for the Eagles.
Most of these people that cover the league
on a national basis don't give a crap
about any of these teams in terms of loving or hating them.
That's down the middle.
And if anything, I think Diana will be more empathetic
to the Eagles because she's got a connection, obviously,
to the city and the area and all that kind of stuff.
So yeah, this is not about any of that.
It's about, she's got, she's a good reporter.
And obviously she has a good source on this
within one of the camps.
I don't know where her source is.
I don't know where she gets her information,
but she gets good information.
And I enjoy her reporting, her work.
Go ahead and she won Eagles inside of the year today.
So the first thing is you probably shouldn't apologize
to Diana for seeing her or everyone out there
who likes to pop off a little bit on social media
about her and everything she says and her reports.
You don't want to read it or buy it.
You're a clown because she's the Eagles inside of the year
and you're not.
So I mean, I'm kidding about the clown thing.
But the idea is she deserves her apology.
Probably probably a lot of people who did not act very kindly
to her reporting.
That's number one.
Second thing I learned from Diana
for seeing the winning Eagles inside of the year
is aging the Eagles are probably working together
here more than we might think.
She mentioned yesterday on the afternoon show
that the Eagles and AJ probably both
feel best to go their separate ways.
And AJ is trying not to make this
a spectacle in the off season.
And that strength, as you kind of deconstruct this thing
and put it back together, what it really seems to me is
the Eagles tried to make the AJ thing work
for one more year last year.
It didn't.
They could have, and I'll get to this training
during the season when he's probably requesting trade.
They tried to just say, let's just get through the vacation.
Let's get through the holidays.
And then we'll really look at our relationship
instead of blowing this thing up now.
That's what they tried to do.
Last year was the therapy session.
It didn't work.
They don't want to be together anymore.
And now everyone's trying to act like grownups
in the divorce.
And I think that's best for both parties.
And what I assume now that we're kind of here
is that at some point, Jeffrey Laurie,
when he went down to talk to AJ Brown
in the season, right?
The beginning of November when AJ was upset
and the Jackie Rondo thing, when that happened,
when he spoke to AJ, my guess is he
brought some sort of message up, hey, I need you
to give me your best.
I need you to put everything that you're frustrated
about aside for the betterment of the team, for me,
for the organization, for the rest of this season.
After the year, we'll sit down and talk.
If you still feel the same way, we'll find a resolution.
That's what I believe.
I believe Jim Flurry asked him, or told him,
this has to stop now.
And if it does, if you work with us,
and you give us your effort, and you give us your play,
and we keep this thing quiet, and we don't pop off again.
If you still want to be out of here for the season,
we'll get it out of here.
And I think that's where we're at.
I think there's been some understanding of, hey,
no more, no more ripping the players, no more,
coaches, no more ripping the quarterback specifically.
No more popping off, none of this, not in that sense.
You play nice and we'll do right by you after the season.
I believe that is where we're at.
And I think there's a patience level
that AJ is showing, which is admirable right now,
to how he always would do his job,
and they're going to get him out of here eventually.
I do think we are there.
I do think that the Eagles and Brown are working together.
I don't expect AJ Brown to cross that line.
Now, Mike, he'd do a social media post maybe.
But I don't think he's going to cross that line
in the next couple of months where he goes on a pod guest
or a show and he says something about wanting to be out
or can't wait for his next spot.
I don't think he's going to do that.
I think they're working together more than we think
in all this, probably less animosity
between the two parties and more of a working relationship.
Almost like what people get divorced
and they're really amicable about it
and they're grownups about it.
That's what this feels like.
Third thing I learned from Diana
was seeding winning Eagles It's Out of the Year
is how he's using June 1st as leverage.
Everyone now is saying June 1st, June 1st.
That's because how he is saying,
I didn't get a good enough offer.
So if you want him before June 1st,
you better come and knock it.
I think there are two dates now on the calendar
that will lead us to a trade.
And the first date is the draft.
And that's a game of leverage
and that is a game of chicken.
And that is a game of each side
daring the other to change the storyline.
And the page is going to change the storyline
by drafting a receiver in the first round.
They could.
I doubt they're going to after paying dobs,
Kyle Williams last year in the draft.
The AJ still thinks they'll out there for them.
I doubt they're going to take a receiver in the first round.
But if they did take a receiver in the first round,
it hurts the Eagles.
There's just no other way to look at it.
It hurts the Eagles because they're
made for AJ Brown would go down considerably.
So that's the first thing that's the first thing I thought of
is the draft.
The second part of this is if the Eagles take AJ Brown.
I was going to take a receiver in the first round
or a second round.
I don't think it completely hurts the Eagles leverage.
But I think I think it would signal
a team's AJs out of here.
And I think it'd be harder for how
we'd hold the line to steal a Hugh Douglas line.
It would hardly be harder for how it's
to reasonably sell to the Patriots.
I might keep AJ.
Oh, really, you're going to keep AJ.
You have Devonte, a first round pick receiver.
You pay $6.5 million for Hollywood Brown.
You're really going to keep AJ Brown.
No one buys that.
But I think it would hurt the Eagles a little bit,
but prepare them for the trade.
The other day, of course, is June 1st.
And the day I mentioned, Julio Jones,
as the last post-June 1st trade of this kind of ilk.
And it's interesting from the perspective
of AJ Brown's really close to Julio Jones.
He was excited when he came here a few years ago.
He talked about watching, growing up.
He's his favorite receiver.
I'm sure they can fight it each other.
I've had that June 1st thing about what it was like,
about patience, a true AJs communicating with AJ,
with Julio Jones now.
So June 1st is a leverage number used by Howie.
That I think the, I think the cat thing is a little bit
of a red herring.
I think Howie's going to use it to his advantage
unless he gets something big right now.

But you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st.
Help put our elections back on a level playing field
and let voters decide not politicians.
Vote yes by April 21st.
Paid for by Virginians for fair elections.
Fourth thing that I learned about
from Diana Rossini winning Eagles inside of the year
is they really should have tried them at the deadline.
I mean, now that we've looked back,
it wasn't worth keeping them.
It didn't work.
Eagles didn't get past the first round.
He didn't play that much better
in a second half of the season.
You know, he had a couple of big games,
but really it was, it was nothing.
The playoff game was a joke.
And I don't believe now the Eagles will get a huge bounty.
Now, you would think during the off season,
you could theoretically pit 32 teams against each other,
31 teams against each other
because everyone could use more talent during the season.
You know, 10 teams by the trade deadline
are obviously not gonna trade anything.
If no, they're selling, right?
Or they're just not buying, they're done with the point
of even getting infamous.
But I didn't think that has become clear
during this off season,
as AJ has the preferable list of teams.
Diana mentioned some of the teams quarterbacks
that he'd be open to going to.
So the Eagles don't have a lot of wiggle room anyway
to create a bidding war.
If they could have pulled it off to the trade deadline,
the headache would have been gone.
We would have been past this now.
The whole off season could have been about acquiring
AJ's replacement instead of just kind of tip-toeing
around this whole thing, which I think we are.
And the Eagles are, everyone knows,
they're gonna need a receiver early in the draft
because AJ's gonna be out of here sooner than later.
They need cheap labor at that position.
But yeah, we gotta do the pretend thing that AJ's still here.
It's been awkward.
It has taken up their time.
It has taken up their energy.
It has taken up their work around with the salary cap.
It's been a lot.
And I think in retrospect,
now in the unpack,
they should have just traded the deadline.
And the last thing that I learned
from Diana Rossini winning Eagles inside of the year
is that I am much better at predicting divisions
being over whether it be the National League East
or the NFC East than I am predicting Eagles inside of the year.
Now, I will point out that in unveiling the where
hours before we found out in WIP,
Jeff McClan had the scoop, Jeff McClan had the story
that I feel justified in saying McClan ran away with this.
I would have voted for Jeff McClan.
I think Jeff McClan should have won Eagles
inside of the year after the show could do the voting
anyway they want.
They gave him Diana.
She's got the crown.
And she earned it for the AJ reporting.
But I guarantee that the division being over,
or should be the division,
the Eagles inside of the year being over
to Jeff McClan a few weeks ago.
I still believe he dominated this thing.
And I do think in retrospect now,
him getting the scoop of the Eagles inside of the year
is the biggest scoop.
He's scooped the competition.
He's scooped the story.
He had the story that he didn't win,
which in effect, I think it means he should have won.
But I digress, I will stick to calling divisions over
instead of inside of the year voting.
I will stick to that.
That might be my wheelhouse.
I will continue to go down that path.
And I think I'm much better at that.
And we'll see what part of this baseball season,
whether it be May, June, July, August,
whenever the feeling comes over me,
I will declare the NL East over hopefully
in favor of the Philadelphia Phillies
and not the New York Mets.
But hey, I mean, one of these years,
whether it be the Cowboys or Commanders or the Mets
or one of these years is gonna go the other way.
I mean, two years in a row,
I told you the NL East is over
and it was over at that date,
even if you had that little thick skin to get through it.
And I told the NFC's was over and it was.
So we're gonna do it again this season
for the NL East.
We'll do it again for the NFC's.
The day I feel like the thing is over.
We'll talk about it,
but I might have to retire from the predictions
on equals inside of the year
because I don't have this one.
I just, I don't have the same feeling that I do or did
for testing season is right around the corner.
And this is when confidence really matters.

Citizens Bank Park opening day, 415, the midday show,
be live from Citizens Bank Park on the concourse.
Can't wait, we have some great guests.
Devon will join us.
President of Citizens Bank will join us
as we like to have him on.
Basically, once a year in opening day,
it's just a fun, it's a really fun day.
And then we'll do a little crossover
I can spike coming up at one o'clock,
leading you into a shortened version of their show
on opening day.
And I thought about this yesterday as well,
that we tomorrow, I don't Friday, on WIP,
and on WIP Daily, for the first time,
since the Eagles playoff game,
we'll have a legitimate, meaningful game
to unpack to start a show.
And I'm not trying to take anything away
from the fixtures or the flyers,
because those games have meaning.
And those teams are fighting for playoff spots.
But because of where each of those teams are,
it's more big picture conversation.
It's more about the rebuild with the flyers,
the niche cough stuff, the head coach talk it,
and Jones, you know that.
And with the six cement injury suspensions,
trade deadline, McCain, it hasn't been about the game.
It hasn't been about a game,
to lead a show, to start a show,
to start a discussion on WIP,
from the jump of all of our shows,
since the Eagles playoff game, that ends today.
Enjoy opening day.
We'll talk soon on WIP, yeah, yeah.
