For sponsoring our show, and if you are out there, and you feel like you know who is going
number two overall, if you think it's our velvety, David Bailey, Rubin Bane, go out to our
friends at Fandule and place a bet out there.
I still would stay away from number two.
That's kind of how I am with the picks, but today is not going to be about the NFL draft.
It is about the first day of the legal tampering period where our Chicago Bears have made
big splashes.
Speaking of big splashes for those out there on YouTube, I've noticed this is my first
ever hat day, I'd say, after doing this show for five years or however long it's been.
My wife was halfway done with my haircut, but then kids happen, and crying happens, baby
crying.
So I'm halfway through the haircut.
Therefore the Red Stripe hat goes on, yes, it has a little beer opener and everything
like that.
It's a versatile hat, but hey, everybody's got to have one of these types of hats out
there.
And also for all my Midwestern people out there, happy one day of summer that we got today,
beautiful day, 70 degrees, just hopefully all were able to enjoy that.
Just like we were able to enjoy the opening day of the legal tampering period, where are
Chicago Bears?
Science, six different free ages, let me move over my little sheet real quick, but we're
going to be breaking down all of them because Brian Poles, even though that he only had like
$25 million in cap space, he's like, you know what, I'm going to spend it all the day.
He doesn't want to wait, he just, he wants to spend, spend, spend.
So we'll break it all down and just kind of give my initial reactions on these signings.
Now that I've actually had some time to kind of think about this, and what this means
for the overall picture of the Chicago Bears.
So first off, let's get into the signing.
So lots of signings today, case kingdom, resigns at what's reported, $4.4 million deal with
the max of $8 million.
A lot of the reports are coming in at five and a half.
So two to two and a half kind of the main thing with case kingdom.
And then the surprising one, Braxton Jones signed for a one year, $5 million deal and
with the max value of $10 million, you know, and then Neville, Galamore, two years, $12
million.
I'm seeing a lot more reports of 10 million now out there as well.
Devon Bush signing three years, the linebacker for $30 million, Demarco Jackson resigned
this morning, two years, seven and a half million, and Kobe Bryant signing a three year, $40
million deal, the Super Bowl winning safety.
So lots and lots of signings.
If you're watching on YouTube, what's your favorite and what, which one did you like or
what do you think about this with Ryan Poles today?
Did he cook?
Did he not cook?
How are we feeling?
Because first off, before we get into everything, I just want to look at the roster, and here
I will, I'll throw it out this way and I can just hide this real quick, I think.
So if we look at the roster right now and we just kind of scan it, we have three wide
receivers right now with Rome, Jody and Luther.
So still might be able to add somebody there.
So as we kind of see that.
But now with with a Braxton Jones coming back, you feel pretty set at the offensive line
spot.
We'll break it down a little bit more because I know not a lot of us are fans of Braxton
and obviously Ben Johnson was one that bench Braxton.
So definitely want to break that down, but really this line, it feels set.
It doesn't feel like they're going to all of a sudden bring in Decker or anything like
that.
Even all the other positions, they still need a third string tight end.
So we'll be on the lookout for that.
They could always bring in a running back potentially if they want to as well, but on the
defense, they have five defensive ends on the roster right now, Booker, Shemar Turner,
Daniel Hardy, and then three defensive tackles with Neville, Gallimor, Jervon Dexter and
Grady Jarrett.
But then also to the linebacker position, it looks like we just wanted to fill that out
by adding in Devon Bush and resigning to Marco Jackson.
So to me, that position is set and then safety, we still need an extra safety.
And it also looked like the bears were shopping around for some corners.
So try to bring somebody into Al Harris University to kind of compete on that outside edge
for the corners.
So let's get into the actual people that we we signed or I guess we have to go through
the resigning first.
So like I said, Keenum resigned the next Braxton Jones resigned.
What do we think about this?
I'm genuinely curious what we think about Braxton Jones because and end this resigning.
So one year, $5 million and Braxton Jones had one of his worst season, actually had
his worst season, coming off of an injury, did not look good.
And quite frankly, you know, he was benched at 47.2, run blocking grade and that's always
been one of his bigger strengths.
He just was missing assignments out there when I was watching the tape and the last one,
he was just whiffing.
And then you go to his past block, grade 62.7, but we know the Braxton Jones special pushed
right back into the heart of the quarterback and then stopped right there.
That's why not just PFF, ESPN analytics also love Braxton Jones because he technically
quote unquote doesn't lose.
He just gets pushed right back into the quarterback and technically by the analytics world, they
do not constitute as that as a loss today constitute that as a well, he holds your ground.
But did they did they?
So Braxton Jones though, and I will say this wholeheartedly and I said this when we're
breaking down the tackles, that Braxton Jones was honestly their best option if you
just simply looked on paper school, the left tackle, the swing tackle for the Vikings
isn't that great.
And you look at all the other options, they're all swing tackles.
So if you want to take a swing, no pun intended at a swing tackle, as you're starting left
tackle, because you know you need a starting left tackle, do you really want to do that?
And then Theo Bennett at I think you kind of showed your hand at what you thought about
him when you said, you know what?
We need Joe Tuni at the left tackle spot and we're going to put Jordan McFadden, we
have not signed as our left guard.
And that really is a telling sign of what the bears kind of thought about that entire situation.
So to me, my feeling with it is I like the idea of Braxton having an entire offseason.
Think about this about you with your own career.
If this is potentially your last shot to be a manager, to be a director and it didn't
go well the first time.
And now new team like kind of given new opportunity, he's not injured.
He came back from the injury.
So now get in the squat rack, right?
He never really had time because he was kind of recovering all the way up until until
the preseason.
So if I'm Braxton, I'm doing squats every day because this is something that Ben Johnson
actually has called him out on and I guarantee you, Roshars probably saying like, yeah,
you got to do this.
And what happens if you do the squats?
You're going to be there in your stance.
You're going to be able to hold your ground and hopefully not be able and be able to handle
that bull rush better.
So you're not being pushed directly back into the quarterback.
Also to fun fact, PFF's number 62 overall free agent on the market that the bears were able
to resign.
So quite frankly, how would I grade this or like what's my thought on it?
I like it.
And I think that what this showed is I don't think it's a coincidence that you saw Braxton
Jones get signed what three hours after Taylor Decker was then a free agent because it
feels then the bears could have just called up Taylor Decker and say, hey, what's it going
to cost?
And that's this is something we talked about if Taylor Decker wants to take a discount,
he could otherwise the guy can command $20 million.
He can command a lot of money because he's a good left tackle.
It just seems like he's not going to have that.
If he signs that six, then yes, I'd be ticked off with the Braxton Jones piece.
But really, I, I think you could kind of put two and two together and that's kind of
my feeling is they must have called them.
And then because of that said, hey, Braxton, how about one year, five million?
So Braxton, let's go.
Let's get to work.
Let's put it.
Let's put this together and hopefully something go can, can make of it.
So one last shot, we'll see what ends up happening.
But come on, he's on the team.
He's going to probably be starting.
Let's go.
So next, speaking of resigning, and then we'll get into the brand new guys.
Demarco Jackson, action Jackson, some of that I absolutely love on, you know, just really,
really like his performance this year.
Just was an absolute beast.
And I won't have to talk about him too much.
But the main core thing that the Bears did today was they showed on the defensive side,
they need speed.
Demarco Jackson is incredibly fast.
He's incredibly quick.
I still will go back to, I still will remember when he comes in.
And I didn't know if he was the inner not because I thought it was a safety running
after a running back in the flat.
That's how fast Demarco Jackson is and we've resigned him.
And with the deal, two years, seven and a half million dollars with a $3 million cap
hit right now.
And also, I'll say too, from our overall cap space situation.
So everyone knows, we don't really know.
My guess, like this is my personal guess, I think it's going to be around $4 million
because we don't have the Devon Bush contract, the specifics yet out there on SpotRack.
But my prediction is it might be around like $4 million at the end of the day, maybe
even less as well.
It might be three.
So we're really not talking about us being able to add anybody huge at the time being.
But really, just good, good signing.
And honestly, when they did that, I was like, okay, is he going to be the starter?
And are they going to want him to be the starter?
Is that going to be the way they end up going?
And the Bears said no.
They said, we have other fish to fry.
We're going to sign PFF's number nine overall free agent that's on the market.
And that's Devon Bush.
And this one, this new one, first off, Demarco Jackson resigning, I like it.
I think that they should have brought him back anyways because I think that he's showing
that he could potentially be a starter for the Bears.
It could be a replacement for a TJ Edwards down the road.
So now let's get into Devon Bush.
And when I first saw Devon Bush's name come out, I was a little like, oh crap.
Because I'm used to Devon Bush with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was not good with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was not great at all.
Then he goes over to the Seahawks, doesn't do well.
So what does everyone do in order to die, you go over to the Cleveland Browns, which Devon
Bush didn't die.
He ends up being awesome because in his first five seasons, only one PFF grade above 60,
which was in his rookie season.
But then when he goes over to the Browns, he's been a top 10 ranked defensive, I mean,
a top 10 defensive tech, middle linebacker for those, for the Cleveland Browns.
And he's just been awesome.
And speaking of speed, that was Devon Bush's calling card coming out of Michigan.
Was that he's 511, but 234, but just blazing fast.
And this is someone that's going to be able to cover people like crazy.
When you look at his coverage stats, next gen stats has him at 0.49 yards per coverage
snap, which was second best among all linebackers.
And two, just when you look at the overall stats that he's got out there to coverage grade
was 4th highest at 80.4 from PFF, and then eighth highest run defense grade among 88 linebackers.
The fourth highest graded linebacker according to PFF yet again, these are PFF grades, but
also to when I was watching the tape when they were going to get when the bears were going
against the Browns, you see the speed of Devon Bush.
And that's what they want on this team.
They want somebody that's fast, someone that's smart, someone that's decisive.
And in that gym Swartz defense, Devon Bush was able to do that.
And now the big thing is, hey, every coach thinks that they can do something.
And with gym Swartz, he's a very, very good defensive coordinator.
Why can Dennis Allen keep this going with Devon Bush?
Well, I'll say this.
Last year, before everybody started getting injured from the linebacker perspective,
Tremaine Edmunds was having his best season.
And then also T.J. Edwards was even having a pretty good season, a big bounce back year
from that as well.
Then you saw what happened with Jackson.
And heck, even though a soul was looking very, very good when it comes down to that run
stuffing ability.
And this is what we said about this coaching staff.
It appears at least in the back, back seven that they have people.
They have coaches that can get the most out of their players.
So to me, you, you got Devon Bush three years for, um, for $10 million a year.
And look at the other signings.
Quay Walker.
I think, I think is not good.
13.5 million dollars a year.
Tremaine Edmunds, $12 million a year.
The Kobe Dean, $12 million a year.
And Demario Davis, $11 million a year.
Alexanne Zaloni went for eight and a half.
I love this signing.
This is probably my, this is my favorite signing of the day.
And when I first saw it, like I said, I was like, Oh, crap, Devon Bush.
He's not good.
I'm like, Oh, what are we doing?
And then I'm like looking at it.
And I'm like, Oh, yeah, yeah, it's not the Pittsburgh Steelers one.
Now there's still that minor little fear with it.
Devon Bush, I would say is my favorite signing.
I really, really like this.
We wanted somebody fast at linebacker and also you got somebody that's 27 years old.
You're not signing one of these veterans.
And also I will say I'm a little bit shocked that they did something like this, um, with
how deep this linebacker class is in the draft.
So that was my only other thing that I was a little bit like, I, you know, you could
probably draft a linebacker or something like that.
Maybe they're like, listen.
We want to get a defensive and we want to get a defensive tackle.
We want to get a center.
And then we don't really want to get a linebacker in the third, right?
And bank on him starting.
So you feel set with this linebacker group.
This is a good linebacker group.
You could still end up drafting one if one drops to that third round pick.
But man, I like this.
I, I like it.
I like it a lot.
And I feel like we should be confident that he's going to be able to play at that same
level because of this coaching staff.
So eight, eight, I'll like, I think that that was a great one.
And if it flames out, then crap, who's ever, whoever plays their best football in Cleveland?
Right?
Like, uh, for the Browns.
I don't know who, but um, let's keep on going though.
And before we keep on going, we're going to, we're going to talk about one of our least
favorite things.
That's the Chicago Bulls where they continue to lose, well, hey, if they continue to lose,
that's good right there.
But right now you can go out to our friends at FanDuel and, uh, bet against the Bulls.
If you like to add minus 215, you can take the Golden State Warriors to beat our Chicago
Bulls.
Um, or, hey, if you think that the Bulls got this in the bag, you can do plus 180 odds
out to with our friends at FanDuel.
Thank you as always for sponsoring today's show.
So, since we're being a little bit pessimistic, just with our, our Bulls not being fun,
we're going to be a little pessimistic and then we're going to talk about, hey, it's
howie Mandel and I am inviting you to witness history as me and my howie do it gaming team
take on Gilly DeKing and wallow 267's million dollars gaming in an epic global gaming league
video game showdown, four rounds, multiple games, one winner plus a half time performance
by multi platinum artist, Travis McCoy, watch all the action and see who wins and advances
to the championship match against Neo right now at global gaming league dot com.
That's global gaming league dot com everybody games, Kobe Bryant, which we're going to
flip everything else around and it'll be good vibes.
So, Neville, Gala Moore, I kind of showed my hand with this, but I will talk about the
positives from this right now.
These PFF's number 359th ranked free agent and we signed them to a two year 10 million
dollar deal.
I've seen two, two years 12 as well, but really just overall when you look at this contract,
four million dollar cap hit this year and then next year will be six million and you can
also get out of that contract if you want to now, I'll start with just actually just
just overall right, Neville, Gala Moore.
This is the person that we talked about with the type of person that a dinosaur and likes
now, not specifically with Neville, Gala Moore, but he likes specific defensive tackles.
He likes penetrators and then he likes the big boys.
Neville, Gala Moore is a penetrator.
He is 302.
The guy blew up the combine because he had like a, he had like a four eight 40 time was
very, very fast from the defensive tackle perspective and that's how he wins.
He's a penetrator.
He is a quick off the snap.
He's going to try to get past them last season had one of his best seasons when it came
down to the past grade, according to PFF, a 70.2 and I believe that is a past rush win
rate was around 15% or like it was like 14% to 15% from PFF as well.
He didn't register from the ESPN analytics, so he wasn't a top performer in that, so that's
why I don't have that.
Walked away with, I believe it was three and a half sacks, PFF charted him with four.
So given him a little bit more kudos out there, run defense grade of 45.8.
Never been a great run defender, but just more so been that quick penetrating type of
guy and I'll tell you this with Neville, Gala Moore.
I do think that it was a little bit of an overpay, just because like I was saying before,
I think that there's a lot of good defensive tackles that you have out there.
Neville, Gala Moore also is 29 years old.
I just feel like he's his entire career.
He's just been doing kind of veteran minimum deals, but so that's where not the biggest
fan of this.
It, you know, it does seem like he might be out the door next year, just because that's
$6 million.
It's hard to see him living up to $6 million when, if you think about it yet again, if
you think about how much you're spending on for $6 million, that's as much as you're
paying your starting center right now.
That's pretty darn close to what you're paying DeAndre Swift, right?
So Neville, Gala Moore, he is a penetrator though.
So, you know, he's going to be coming off the bench, but somebody that can at least generate
some pass rush upside for the bears, maybe on third downs and other, other pieces like
that.
So, just kind of filling in the gaps, but yeah, so hopefully, hopefully he's a lot better
than kind of like what I'm talking about, but for right now, not the biggest fan of
this signing, but hey, yet again, with anything, turning around, right?
Show me what you got, but I feel like we kind of all got some Dio Vibes, but it's at
least we can get out of it after one season if things go sour.
So anyways, now let's flip it over and talk about Kobe Bryant, and actually, actually,
before we do that, I grabbed this because I thought this was very intriguing.
Neville, Gala Moore, if you want to kind of know how he's played, this is all the PFF
grades, and I was going through here and I just thought it was crazy how close everyone
was.
Grady Jarrett was a 73rd ranked defensive tackle, Neville, Gala Moore, 75th, and Javan Dexter,
77th.
Their overall grades, Neville, Gala Moore, 56.6, Javan was 55.8, and Grady Jarrett, 56.9.
Their run stuffing grade, their run, yeah, their run stuffing grade, run defense grade,
45.8 for Gala Moore, 42.8 for Javan, and 42 for Grady Jarrett, like all pretty much the
same stuff.
And then you have their pass rush grade, 70.2 for Neville, Gala Moore, 70.6 for Javan,
and 63.4 for Grady Jarrett.
So if you're asking me is this, and I will say this, is this an upgrade over Chris Williams?
Yeah, I'd say it is.
Is this an upgrade over Andrew Billings?
Yes, because Andrew Billings last year was not the Andrew Billings from the year before
or anything before that.
And I still remember when we signed Billings, that's the type of defensive tackle move that
I love, that I jumped for joy because it's this guy who's been in his career just productive.
He fell off just because of injuries, and then that's what ended up costing him last
season.
But yeah, so anyways, that's Neville, Gala Moore, at least an upgrade when you're talking
about some depth when we talk about that.
I just would have liked, I just would have liked something different, and I'm also just
so everyone's out there.
I'm not here to be like, we should have gotten, I've been Mr. like, what Sebastian Joseph
Day, like not that, like, or, you know, like people talking about, oh gosh, who's the
person from Denver, right?
I'm not talking about the big name ones.
I'm talking about the veterans that you could just kind of patch in, and they'll do well.
So that was, that was my approach.
Clearly that just didn't happen.
But anyways, let's go over to Kobe Bryant.
Let's talk about Kobe, and this is someone, so if you are someone that watched the show
when I broke down the safeties, I got, I got some texts after this happened, like, what
do you think?
What do you think?
Because the thing that I mentioned about Kobe Bryant is he's someone that's going to
get a big contract, and the thing that has me nervous was Mike McDaniel, because like,
I called out Geno Stone was under Mike McDaniel at the Ravens, he goes over to the, or, you
know, like, with that, like the whole Geno Stone situation didn't end up too great, but
then also too you have Kobe Bryant, who, to me, watching more and more and more of him,
I really like him with, you can kind of see how the Bears want to use him in their system.
That to me gives me a little bit more confidence about, about Kobe Bryant, and also just when
you're looking at the other safeties, Brian Cook, one really good year for Kansas City gets
a 13.4 million dollar deal, very similar to Kobe Bryant, but then also too, Jalen Thompson,
someone who I called out, $11 million a year, yet again, I think that's a little rich.
I think Jalen Thompson is a good, he's a good safety.
But when you talk about Kobe Bryant and him getting very, very similar dollar amounts,
that's something that I feel a lot better.
I feel good with what we're spending with Kobe Bryant, and then read Blanketship, someone
who I called out, $8.25 million.
This also appears to be then no Kevin Byard coming back, which I think shocks all of us,
because Kevin Byard was someone that the Bears have really, really wanted to bring back,
and so with this, they go after Kobe Bryant, and the big thing that pops off is speed.
This is a former corner, and it's not just a corner that can only cover.
This guy can pop you, and you look at this 70.3 run defense grade, which is 50 second
among safeties out of 96 qualifying safeties, and then 37th in pass rush grade.
So yet again, somebody that can, that can fly around out there, and then also just the overall
grade, coverage grade 61.9, fit 45th.
So PFF, not as high on him from a coverage grade perspective, but next gen stats, they
loved them.
A 51.4 pass rating in coverage, which is good for second best among safeties, according
to NFL next gen stats, yet again, it's hard finding stats about safeties in corners
and other things like that that are out there, but I'll, but PFF had Kobe Bryant 74th,
or 74th overall, a best available free agent out there, and yet again, I like this for
what they're trying to do.
The guy came away with four interceptions, and 65.5 overall grade, and just as looked very
consistent at the position, and over the last two years since transitioning from corner
over to that safety position, and this guy just pops people.
He flies, it seems like that's exactly what Dennis Allen wants out of his safeties.
This is someone that yes, get again, strictly kind of that deep safety, but also he can
be physical.
He can play in that box.
So I think that the next safety we're looking at is going to be more of that in the box type
of look.
Maybe it's CJ Gardner Johnson.
Maybe it's somebody like that, but I think that for me, Kobe Bryant, I like it.
I like this signing, you know, so you give him the big, you give him the big money, but
really it was, there was just a lot of, not a lot of great selections out there at safety.
And that's what I was kind of saying, what, not yesterday, two days ago, was that it just
felt like a lot of this, a lot of the safeties they all have, yeah, but blank, yeah, but blank.
So Kobe Bryant, solid, good safety, should he be paid in the top of the year, like, is
he, or league like a, is he like a, what Jesse Bates was or something like that?
I don't think that caliber of safety, but somebody that can definitely, definitely can
play.
And if we're looking at just his overall salary cap hit this year, 5.96, and then next
year, he's going to get a whopping 17 million dollars.
And then after that, you have an out, and then you can, uh, then another 17 million
the year after.
So when you're talking about the salary, really kind of front loading or, um, back loading
this and freeing up a lot right now, as we need it, because we know that afterwards,
we can then cut diode dang, but we can cut great Jared next season and have a lot more
cap space, um, the following year.
So that's what the bears have.
So now what's next?
Who is going to be signed next?
And let me actually just check my phone real quick, because you never know what might
it end up happening.
Let's see, Devin Lloyd signing for, um, 15 million dollars a year.
We have that at least.
And nothing else to too crazy.
The other piece to bears do not get a, um, a compensatory pick.
That came up.
And also to Tyler Linda bomb, signing for 27 million dollars yet again, just backing up.
The Garrett Bradbury trade was very, very, very smart when it came, when it came down
to Ryan polls.
Garrett Bradbury, not the greatest center of all time, but the centers, centers were going
for 10 plus million dollars.
This was the year of centers getting big deals.
And, um, I really like it just looks better and better and better to move that, uh, Ryan
polls made, um, the next piece that I will, uh, the last little bit.
So what's going to happen next?
I think on the offensive side, maybe they signed just a couple, um, a lot of these a
KS is, uh, not a, like you already got signed.
So now do they bring back a Devon Dubrinne or do they try and find just some people that
you can get for veteran minimums?
Um, I do, I do think that the bears are not going to be that active.
If they are going to do anything, um, maybe you look at like a strong safety, somebody
that they could potentially bring in, but yet again, they really don't have a lot of
money right now.
So maybe if they bring in a safety, is it, um, CJ Gardner Johnson for a smaller deal,
like a two or three million dollar deal and bring them in that way?
Or is it juquat and briskers still not science?
I still don't think that that's going to happen.
Um, but, but is it someone like a CJ Gardner Johnson?
All that I know is that we are going to have you covered.
So make sure that like button, subscribe out there because if they sign somebody tomorrow,
we will have a show to break it all down for you.
So also leave a comment, who is your favorite signing?
Are you going to buy any of these jerseys?
The Kobe Bryant one might be a little bit sick, uh, that that might be pretty cool.
Um, or Devon Bush might be a little bit sweet too.
So we'll see, but with that unbearable sports podcast, we are out.
Hey, it's Howie Mandel and I am inviting you to witness history as me and my Howie do
it gaming team take on Gilly DeKing and wallow 267's million dollars gaming in an epic
