A new report out finds that in 2024,
poverty in New York City
rose for a third year in a row.
It's called the Poverty Report.
It tracks a representative sample of 3,000 families
and it found that in 2024,
more than a quarter of the city's families
are living in poverty.
With rising prices and reductions
or limits to public assistance,
the responders indicated that at points in time,
they could not always afford a meal,
pay for utilities or go to the doctor.
The 26% who live below the poverty line
is twice the national average.
The study even indicates that a family
of four making $100,000 a year is also struggling.
