1:13
We're excited for Kevin Wynn.
1:15
We've got a couple of key transfers on the edge, but there's still another piece to discuss
1:20
This defensive line must evolve for the dolls to win.

We're going to be discussing some mail-back questions and comments that came in that
2:08
I think are really good towards the end of the show.
2:10
And by the way, thank you very much for everybody that comments on the YouTube page.
2:14
I have a blast with it, and I'm glad many of you continue to come back and post.
2:18
It's a lot of good times.
2:20
We're going to also talk about the cornerback and the safeties in the middle of the show.
2:24
We get done with D-Line.
2:26
We need to talk about that a little more.
2:27
There was a comment from somebody they'll discuss in the mail-back, but here's a little preview.
2:33
We need to see one of these young guys step up.
2:35
There's a Charles Leicester fan among us.
2:37
But first, and you take nothing else from this podcast, Barnum, Florida State's defensive
2:45
It is a complex group of players in a complex scheme.
2:49
You've got transfers.
2:51
You've got young guys going from freshmen to sophomores, and you've got a few guys coming
2:56
Portal, junior college ranks.
2:58
It's a little bit of everything.
3:00
Will this be the magic elixir that helps Florida State's pass rush?
3:06
Maybe create more tackles for loss.
3:08
It's not quite as big a D-Line group because you're losing big barrel in the middle, but
3:12
it's still a pretty good size line when everybody's actually present.
3:15
I know there was a comment about that on Knowles 24-7 on Monday, but it's not a complete
3:22
When four states in the fall, assuming everybody's healthy, it's still going to be a pretty
3:26
good size, especially with Kevin Winn, Manning, and those guards by the 330 pounds.
3:31
Here are a few things to think about.
3:33
When I conceptualize who's going to play where I openly admit, you can't just do it that
3:39
way across the board because down in distance, we'll change what Tony White does, position
3:46
How many times the team that they're playing in that day, like, how well does he know the
3:51
He'll be in a three-man look, a four-man look, so it is very complex for Florida State.
3:57
Undoubtedly, Florida State's going to come up with what they want to run, but there are
4:02
It'll be better to have a stand-up end, go three-man line with like the jack position
4:07
or whatever you want to call it, stand up for Russia.
4:10
That's fine, but I also think they have a lot of bodies that fit the traditional
4:14
four-three with a couple of power-ends.
4:16
Maybe the dissier twins, starting at both ends, part of the time, if you're going against
4:20
the more run-heavy team, that's possible.
4:24
You could also use a couple of different players they brought in, like a J-1 Anderson, just
4:29
as an example, Ryle and Kennedy, that transfer from Texas A&N.
4:33
If you want to go with a little bit smaller D&, that 235 to 255 range, depending on what
4:39
they end up wearing, come fall, that'll take care of itself.
4:42
I think four-state has a bevy of options, but here's just the overwhelming question,
4:46
and I'm going to ask several questions here at a minute.
4:49
Which unit do you think Bar none would be the best if four-state was in a four-man line
4:55
or a three-man line?
4:57
If you want to just pick one, that's fine, but I think four-man is actually a chance
5:02
Tony White likes running three-man fronts.
5:04
Could you do it, Cher?
5:06
Again, you got Kevin Wynn.
5:08
He fits that profile to a tee.
5:10
And if George Sanders is that guy, transfers in from Texas State, we simply don't know.
5:18
He's not going to play in spring.
5:20
That's very unfortunate.
5:21
He'll be back, according to Coach Norbell, in the summer.
5:25
If he can give you 12-15 snaps, the game it knows, they rotate a few of the guys inside.
5:31
Again, they're going to use four-man lines.
5:32
So playing true knows, it's not the same as being like in a one technique where you're
5:40
You double-team quite the same like that.
5:42
You've got a chance to at least penetrate.
5:45
I imagine they'll figure it out, but Kevin Wynn is probably their nose guard.
5:49
They'll be in that front, I think, far less than what Tony White wants, but I think they're
5:54
going to play more four-man line.
5:56
Ryle and Kennedy, Jalen Anderson, I think those are the kind of past rushers athletically
6:00
at least that you need at the upper end of college football.
6:04
We'll see if they get turned loose and do something, but to that end, here are my questions
6:10
Number one, are they going to run more four-two-five?
6:12
I just talked about it.
6:14
I say, yes, what do you say and why?
6:17
I just have a gut feeling going into spring and based on what I've seen, a little bit
6:22
of film that I've watched, I like Jalen Anderson, why?
6:26
The junior college player at a Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, that's an athletic
6:31
You can get after it.
6:33
If that's your backup, you're okay.
6:35
That's your starter, in my opinion, that's okay.
6:38
You're going to have the DeCirc twins, you can rotate them at edge, move one or both
6:42
inside occasion on passing downs.
6:44
If you're in a four-man front, you're good there.
6:46
My bigger question with either of Anderson or Kennedy, how comfy are they standing up in
6:52
a three-man line and being the past rusher with the way Tony White does it?
6:58
Now, A&M has done some of that in the past, and Kennedy might be familiar with it, but
7:03
I don't know if it's the exact same way that Tony went about it.
7:08
That's foreign to me, so we'll see, but at least he's done it in some capacity.
7:13
I don't know about Anderson, so if they're going to run four or two-five, that's good,
7:17
but those same guys got to be able at the drop of a hat to float into the three-man front.
7:23
Second question, playing linebackers at D&N to help, especially if guys are banged up
7:27
and it's going to happen.
7:29
It's something Florida State did last year.
7:31
Take it inside back or move them to edge in rushing.
7:35
In an ideal world, that's about 10% of the time.
7:37
Last year, it was a ton, though.
7:39
That can't continue afford a state's going to be an upper echelon defense, in my opinion.
7:45
They tried to pass it off last year like this was normal.
7:47
We all knew it wasn't.
7:49
They were just short-handed at D&N.
7:50
There's no way around it.
7:51
It's what they inherited.
7:52
When Coach White got there, and they made it work to the best of their ability, but
7:56
they didn't have that twitchy, outside past rush and guide that caused issues.
8:02
They went and got Ryland Kennedy, who's got that athleticism, who's kind of been a
8:05
walk jam at Texas A&M, and then they get a kid at a Jucco ranks and can go get it to.
8:11
Maybe one of the young guys steps up.
8:13
That'll take care of itself in spring.
8:14
I'm not going to mention them.
8:15
There's a ton of possibilities, but they bring a nine defense alignment in this group of
8:22
One of them, at least, will probably emerge in help as well, but I'm going to let that
8:26
kind of take care of itself.
8:28
Number three, and this is a fun one.
8:31
We talked a little bit about Daniel Ones.
8:32
It had a bonus episode on Monday in the afternoon.
8:36
Daniel was the last guy I talked about.
8:38
Great guy, great character.
8:40
Could have went other places.
8:41
Comes back for his fifth year at Florida State.
8:43
He wanted to be an old one.
8:45
Good for Florida State.
8:47
But at his size, could he play some strong side end in the three-man line, then bump
8:51
inside to play some nose guard to give them some extra coverage when Kevin's either
8:55
banged up or needs a breather?
8:58
And that way, if Sanders is out or went at whatever, you need a third guy that can at
9:04
He's an experienced guy.
9:06
He said he'll play wherever, but will he be effective when called upon?
9:10
I just about guarantee you he's going to get that chance.
9:14
Can he be effective?
9:15
When we come back, I'm going to finish up on a couple more questions that are really
9:20
On the defensive line, we'll talk a little bit about corner and safety and why these
9:24
fronts and figuring it out and spring to the best of the coaching staff's ability is
9:28
so important, because there's a lot of planning for the fall, because remember, game two,
9:33
you got SMU and game number three, after a buy, you go to Tuscaloosa and play the Crimson
9:40
There is no easing into the 2026 season for the Florida State Semimes.
9:45
You're going to play two teams that can score points right away.
9:49
It's going to be very important to kind of figure out everything on the defensive line
9:53
right now in spring.
9:55
We'll talk more about it right here.
9:56
On a walk on series.
9:59

12:37
Check out the everyday club down below.
12:39
Now here are a couple more questions about the defensive line before we move into DB
12:43
because they play off on another.
12:47
Oh, excuse me, number four, impacts.
12:50
Rywin Kennedy, Jalen Anderson, I'm just going to make a projection.
12:53
I'm going to say between them, they get 12 sacks.
12:57
I think they're going to play the majority of the snaps.
12:59
They will be the two high water marks for sacks this year for the Noles.
13:06
What's your over under?
13:08
I might be low, but I think they're going to change the defense up a little bit and be
13:11
more aggressive and have actual defensive ends rushing the faster.
13:14
It should be affected, especially with Kevin Winn in the middle.
13:18
That's a guy I'm telling you.
13:19
I brought this up since the time you enroll.
13:21
That is a special football player.
13:22
It's going to get a lot of double teams that will help and you've got both the DeCert
13:28
You've got some pretty good players in terms of just being solid role players.
13:32
I think that both Kennedy and Anderson, they can both get six or more.
13:37
So a sack every other game on average.
13:40
I wouldn't be surprised at all with that if they're both healthy the entirety of the
13:44
I don't know what you want to start.
13:45
But those are probably your two most likely weak side defensive ends for the Nolos.
13:49
Number six, excuse me, number five, can Jordan Sanders play 25 snaps a game?
14:15
This is the hardest one on this list.
14:16
I'm going to admit that.
14:18
He's not playing in spring.
14:19
He's a 300 pounder give or take to play the Texas state last year.
14:23
He's got a few years of eligibility, he's a big body.
14:27
But if he can't play 25 snaps a game, being like the other nose guard, then one of the
14:32
other things has to happen.
14:34
Daniel Irons has got to play it or one of the guys that are undersized, swash, you could
14:39
forget three man front.
14:42
Like if you do not have a true nose guard, you can't go out there running at all.
14:47
Because Kevin Wayne can't play 60 snaps a game of no like you'll get obliterated by
14:51
Because you're taking double teams about every other play.
14:54
It's not realistic.
14:56
Can he play 25 a game so you kind of split it up?
14:59
Maybe he plays 35, 40% of the snaps?
15:03
But we don't have any evidence of him playing at the P4 level.
15:06
He's got size and all that.
15:09
I just, I don't know much more than that.
15:12
That is a major question.
15:14
And finally, number six, handling adversity.
15:17
It's kind of what I was just talking about here momentarily.
15:21
We'll go into more detail with adversity as well with the secondary.
15:25
But when somebody gets hurt or a team comes out hot against you, how does a defensive line
15:32
In 24, it was terrible in those moments.
15:35
In 25, it was inconsistent, but better.
15:38
They would feed off the energy if they started well or got a big play kind of like the
15:43
But at other games, or Alabama, but at other games, like Miami, who caught them off guard
15:48
with some good play calling, some screens, et cetera, the DeWine wilted.
15:53
Are they going to be more consistent with their effort in a just right in the middle
15:58
of the game before half time?
16:00
It's not going well.
16:01
You're down two scores.
16:03
You can't wait to half.
16:05
Four to state struggled with that last year.
16:07
Are they going to take that step?
16:08
I really want to see that.
16:10
Now it's kind of jump into corner and defensive back overall.
16:15
Got some comments on YouTube, and I'll get to those after the break, but who's your
16:22
I didn't have to write this one down.
16:24
This is really the only question that matters.
16:27
Who is your pick for the quote unquote, at least for now, unknown defensive back to step
16:34
up for four to state?
16:37
Which one will it be?
16:38
Now they've had a lot of guys that were heavily coveted out of the high school ranks come
16:42
I've talked about this recently, but I just wanted to put this out there for fans.
16:51
Is it Johnson Ken in this year?
16:53
Is it Jamar Howard?
16:55
Is it somebody else?
16:57
Maybe it's a safety.
17:00
But much like with the defensive line, who if they're doing their job, the DBs are going
17:05
to be under fire because there's going to be more third and five or third and six, third
17:08
and seven, third and longs, you're going to need guys to rotate in, especially early
17:14
It's hot in the south.
17:15
You're not going to play the same snap count in being as good as spot.
17:18
Who is going to be that guy?
17:22
It's early in fall camp, but I want to talk about this now.
17:26
And then as we go through, listen to Norbell, listen to coach Adams, coach Coup, and really
17:33
just anybody on the defensive staff and some of the players who standing out amongst the
17:38
young guys at minimum.
17:42
Two of those young players, one at corner, one at safety is going to have to play some
17:45
serious reps at some point, maybe come hell, come high water, because oh no, it's football.
17:51
Players get injured.
17:53
They have a ton of talent in the freshman sophomore classes in terms of raw physical
17:58
I don't know much about coach Adams.
18:01
I honestly don't know a ton about Coup, but he's got a good rep and he's a good recruiter.
18:05
I think that they need one guy at each spot to step up and I, for the record, the way Tony
18:11
plays his defense, I count the nickel spot more as a safety.
18:14
They look at it from a physicality standpoint, more than coverage, but I digress.
18:19
The way you look at it, they're going to need at minimum a couple of guys that really
18:24
haven't gotten much run yet in terms of commentary or plays to step up.
18:29
So comment down below, who do you think it's going to be and why?
18:32
Just going to have some fun with that.
18:34
When we come back, we're going to talk mail back.
18:36
All your comments and questions over the last week, I picked out a handful that are pretty
18:40
fun and to be honest, this is my favorite thing to do on a lot of thumbnails because I get
18:46
the most different comment one next to the next person that's insane, like this completely
18:52
different perspective on the exact same comment that I'll make on this show and it makes
18:57
it just absolutely entertaining for me and I hope you enjoyed as well.
19:01
That is next on Locked On Settles.
19:04
Today's show is brought to you by Fandall and the college basketball.
19:08
It's pretty crazy right now.
19:10
We've got big games, conference tournaments, get ready to roll, tight spreads, we've got momentum
19:14
swings every single night, it doesn't matter if it's an ACC game, if it's a big 10 game,
19:19
big 12, or maybe it's a West Coast shootout, there's always something on the board.
19:23
And now Fandall is giving you a way to turn that energy into even bigger potential wins.
19:27
You've got a college basketball parlay profit boost.
19:30
So if you want to hit up the finals of the ACC tournament, I don't care if it's Duke
19:37
against Miami or whoever it ends up being in any of these tournaments or if it's, you know,
19:43
it could be women's basketball like Texas, just be South Carolina and women's basketball.
19:48
That was pretty wild.
19:50
You can wind it up that way.
19:51
You can do your parlay with higher props, you can do halftime scores.
19:55
Whatever you want, it is up to you because it is your parlay.
19:58
Go safe, go bold ride with the team.
20:00
You follow it all season.
20:01
It's your parlay, your style now with more upside behind it, head to Fandall.com to get
20:07
That's fandall.com player game with Fandall.
20:11
Here also brought to you by five hour energy and the flavor draft.
20:15
This is something that I actually have looked into a little bit more.
20:19
I'll admit before the show, I was going through and there's a new contender, if you will.
20:26
And I'm not saying that it's quote unquote perfect, but let me see if I can find it here.
20:33
Fruity Rainbow, bright blend of assorted fruit candy flavors, sweet layered with fruit
20:38
notes in every sip.
20:40
It reminds me a little bit from what it sounds like of Blue Raspberry, who's my favorite.
20:44
So welcome to the five hour energy draft, 18 different flavors are going to choose from.
20:49
I'm going to pick my favorite.
20:50
I'm always going to pick Blue Raspberry is my number one seed.
20:54
But Fruity Rainbow is one I was reading through these and they give us the whole list.
20:59
It sounds pretty interesting.
21:00
I'm a Blue Raspberry guy like Cherry a lot, but that seems to be somewhere in between.

21:17
All right, it is mail bag time and this is one of my favorite things to do.
21:21
Like I said, it's right now.
21:22
It's my favorite because it's not the actual football season and I want to know what
21:26
Y'all come on come on to the show and comment sometimes.
21:30
If I have a live show, you come on the YouTube page and comment about things that you liked
21:34
about what I said or you don't like whatever it may be.
21:38
It's just entertaining to me because again, same subject matter, I'll get one that's
21:44
The very next person will have a 180 degree different idea.
21:49
That's why college football is so great.
21:51
There are different ways to look at things so let's not waste any more time.
21:54
Let's just have a little fun with it.
21:56
I think that by the way, four state spring, we're going to see a lot of swings and these
22:01
comments may even get broader.
22:03
So first one, the Renegade Fight U5W.
22:07
The secondary is going to be a fours to be reckoned with this season.
22:10
Just put the right players on the field and play the hot, consistent players at that
22:16
That's fair enough.
22:18
Ride this guy says our linebackers were picked to part last season in some games.
22:22
Unfortunately, I will never forget the Pittsburgh game that drove me nuts and then they just didn't
22:28
make the critical plays against Miami.
22:30
Some simple, simple things turned into massive games for the games.
22:34
Those are the two games.
22:35
Pittsburgh and Miami were I think mental errors from the back seven, not just DBs.
22:41
They did not pass off well from like the linebacker level to the safety level.
22:48
It didn't work well, especially in the middle of the field I'm talking about, or if you
22:51
want to say this is the third level of the defense, they didn't do that very well.
22:55
They didn't have good spacing a lot of the time from the linebacker to the safety or
22:59
They just gave up big plays and then once the ball got into the hands of somebody like
23:03
Malachite Tony, it was really frustrating because the tackling was sometimes as far as
23:09
Eric Brown 5630 says, roles in the secondary will be tested early by Alabama's wide receivers
23:16
Who will step up and show out?
23:19
No, it's a great question.
23:21
Alabama is going to be one of the more intriguing teams this next year, Austin Mack is for
23:28
whatever it's worth.
23:29
It's my pick to win the starting quarterback job, but maybe it's Keel and Russell.
23:32
Maybe they play both.
23:33
I don't know, but I do know they've got a bunch of dudes that can run at receiver.
23:38
Ryan Williams is still over there.
23:40
They've still got some key guys coming back.
23:42
They've got some transfers.
23:44
They're often one should be better, the run game should be better.
23:49
So play action probably is going to work much more efficiently for Alabama.
23:54
That's going to be interesting, but I told him on the page, don't forget about SMU.
24:01
That's a really important game.
24:03
Braywin Ball 9359 says, call me crazy.
24:07
This is Charles Wester's breakout year.
24:09
This is the post I talked about earlier in the show.
24:13
Wester is a very skilled player.
24:16
I've known about him since he was in eighth grade.
24:20
And I remember seeing him at a seven on tournament, I'm like, holy cow, that kid said eighth grade
24:25
and ends up before the state didn't get a chance to play much last year.
24:29
But it's his time to at least, he should get 150 snaps, just sweep walking.
24:38
Quindarius and some other guys, there are opportunities, but I'm going to be a little disappointed if he
24:42
doesn't get at least 150 snaps, if not 250, and then the year after he should start.
24:49
Wink, he's over six foot, he's a guy that can play receiver if you wanted him to, just
24:54
a tremendous athlete.
24:56
And finally, Mike Merrick, I'm ready to see the secondary handle business, Brian, go
25:02
Mike's always steady and a very consistent guy.
25:04
So I always want to get Mike in there in the mix.
25:08
Overall in the secondary though, again, who's it going to be?
25:12
Which young player is going to stipulate that, you know what, I played too good in practice,
25:17
coach Norvell, coach Coup, coach Adams, et cetera, you're going to have to play me.
25:23
Maybe you didn't anticipate it, but that's what practice is for.
25:28
Maybe it's Carson Hobbes.
25:31
Maybe it's KJ Kirkland takes a major step forward and they can use him in different roles.
25:35
And that helps some of the younger guys, not have to play as much.
25:38
Maybe Donnie Heber still plays, so I don't know.
25:40
Tray Bell, they've talked about him getting some reps.
25:44
It's really hard to say.
25:45
Max Redman's a guy that could maybe get some reps.
25:50
Too many guys to really figure it out, but it is paramount because while I think the
25:54
D1 is going to be a little better than what's something, you're going to be some games
25:59
or four to states D1, especially if Kevin Wins banged up, but there's just very few body
26:04
talks like Kevin Wins.
26:06
He is a true no doubt about a zero tech nose guard that like Bill Bellichek would want.
26:12
Or Georgia, Alabama, when they were just purely three man fronts, it didn't run as much
26:17
hybrid like Georgia does now.
26:21
If he's not in the lineup because he's banged up, you're going to see some different things
26:24
in teams probably run it up fishing more.
26:26
Those are the games in the moments, maybe, even if it's like Kevin's out for a series
26:30
because it puts an example, but it's not major.
26:33
How does your secondary stand up because when the other team does play action and they've
26:37
been pounding you with the football, you've got to read your keys, you've got to make
26:40
a play, even though you thought, oh, this is going to be another run, if you take a
26:44
fall step, you've got to find a way to make a play.
26:47
There's talent, there's speed, there's athleticism, there's length, who's it going to be?
26:52
So I think four to state secondary is going to get challenged this year, but in ways that
26:56
are a little bit different than it will have.
26:58
Being a year two of Tony White system should help, but it's still not a lock.
27:04
You've got a zero in, earn your job, be consistent to make it work, and if you can do that
27:10
four to state secondary, might surprise some folks because again, I know there's
27:13
plenty of talent there, but now it's the order in playing together, measuring together.
