All right, let's go out to the make it right call Kyle right hotline Albert Breer the mmqb.com joining us here in the fan
Hello, Albert. How are you doing today? Hey guys? How are we doing? Oh, we're good. We're trying to recap everything we've seen from the owner's meeting and
I'm much to I guess not many people's surprise certainly not yours
It felt like Jimmy Haslam and then Andrew Barry both went out of their way to speak in a way about
Dishon Watson that definitely made it seem like this is a real serious competition Albert
Yeah, I don't know why it wouldn't be I mean, I like again, I just look at the totality of this and
You know, I like I don't know why you would be so sure of any of them where there wouldn't be a real competition, you know, and so
Look like I think there's a reason to want to get a look at Shadoor Sanders
There's a reason to want to get a look at the shot Watson. There's a reason to keep your options open
You know, when you're going into the draft and like you want to take you know one in the second or third round
You want to get a flyer on someone later like all those things that can or to be considered because I
Like I don't know. I just don't you know
I don't think there's a great chance that the quarterback of the future is on the roster right now
But you want to give everybody who's on the roster a shot to prove that wrong, you know, and so
You know, I think you'd the best thing for the Browns right now is to open up the competition and you know
It helps the new coach too and showing that like hey, you know, if we're gonna have you know an open-fair competition is the most important
Play from the field then you know like everybody else is gonna have to compete for their spots well
Albert we also got news today that the Browns will host
Ty Simpson on the top 30 draft visit before the NFL draft you mentioned that that could maybe be the outlier if
If you know that could shake up this quarterback competition between Watson and Sanders
How much interest do you think is really there? Obviously the pre-existing relationship with Todd and Simpson
But how into Ty Simpson are the Cleveland Browns at least as we sit here today
I think it's it's something again like you have to investigate all this stuff
He's going to have an answer at the quarterback position long-term
Or there's a good chance that you don't have that answer. So
Yeah, I mean they have to take a look at him and you know, they're I think it's you know pretty obvious at this point
Fernando Mendoza is gonna be available to them. So
You know, I like I still I still think most NFL people see Ty Simpson as a second or a third around pick and probably
Not somebody you can know to elevate to become a great quarterback in the NFL, but
You know, I think that the flip side of that is that you know, like there's upside that maybe he could be brought party
And do you feel comfortable taking brought party in the first round if that's where the upside is brought to a really good quarterback
You know, and I got a really good team around him, but you know, that's a sort of prospect. You're looking at so
Do I think that
Do I think that this is you know an indication that they will consider him you know at 24 or in the second round sure
Because they have to consider all their options. I don't think it's a likelihood that Ty Simpson goes in the first round, but
You know again, he can he can certainly one people over over the next few weeks and you know, the tape is good
Everything you hear on him is like you just see him doing more NFL things on tape and you see from Fernando Mendoza
Which isn't Mendoza's fault? It's just a little bit easier of a
Of a translation
You know, it's the acknowledgement that he probably doesn't have the upside that Mendoza does
Oh, so you say you don't think he's gonna go in the first round to why do you think that is?
I mean, I just
I mean you guys remember the way I talked about the door last year, right? Yeah. Yeah, that's why that's why I'm very interested in your thoughts here
I just said over and over and over again
And over and over and over again that I just had not seen
You know, I did not talk to very many people at all who thought she was the first round
Didn't mean he wasn't going to be because all it takes is one team. I sort of feel the same way with time now
And I've got a lot more calls to make but
You know the teams I've talked to
You know, see him as a you know good college quarterback
Second or third round pick with a lot of things that you got to wrap your head around you know
He's well under the threshold of 25 college starts, which a lot of teams use the golden rule
He's six feet even you know
He doesn't have a huge arm. He's got a good arm. He doesn't have a huge arm
He's not a super athlete, you know, and you know, so I think he's one of these guys where you look at him
And I think this is similar to Shedur which Shedur was like what's his superpower?
I don't know that Ty Simpson has a superpower either which I think is why most people look at him as a
You know as as a second or third round prospect rather than um rather than a first round in fact
I'd say
Like if you if you listen to the two of them
I think they're you know the way people talk about talk about Shedur coming out last year and the way people talk about Ty Simpson
It probably is that far off you know one from the other
In a similar realm to that same question Albert you mentioned to the fact that the browns could decide to draft a QB
A little bit later on maybe the Carson backs of the world drew alers
Yes, how do you see that shaking out in the draft once it feels like it probably goes
For nanoman does a tie Simpson, but then how's the rest of that all shake out?
You know what I really like the idea of it
Because I like and I I always think it's a good investment to just swing if you've got
You know disposable picks and you've got like a little bit of you feel like
Some currency there and and somebody falls and you're in the fourth or fifth round and okay like now we're in the range where you know
Like the the numbers show you like the guy you draft might not be on your team in two years, you know
So I I don't I never mind taking a swing in quarterback in those situations even if you have one
You know wrong wolf used to do it in green Bay
Over and over and over again even when he had Brett far
um, you know
So like do you do you roll the dice with the Arkansas kid talent green you roll the dice with through aler and everything and
You know and and look at everything to happen with him at ten state and say you know there's still something to work with there
I you know, I I think those sorts of things the beauty about the beauty of of doing that to me
Is you're taking a swing and it doesn't take you off the market from taking one the next year like if you take one at six or twenty four
Chances are you're not taking another quarterback next year, right?
Or that you have to that take one in the third or the fourth or fifth round
You very easily just turn around and and take another one the next year
So in that way, it's almost a free shot where you're not taking yourself off the market to try to get an answer
On-term
But you're maybe you are you know getting a chance to look at a guy with some upside
Albert Breer joining us here on the make a right call call right hotline
So last week they did the miles Garrett restructure and it set up the door to be open for them to potentially trade them
We're expecting June second and beyond if that happens somewhere around that that framework
And this is something you've been on for I mean a year plus now it feels like that idea that
It might be the best interest to trade miles Garrett if you're the browns
What did you make of them?
Basically coming out and being about as open as possible in the idea that they've now made it available that he could be traded
But Andrew Barry still has this insistence that he won't be traded
I I have a hard time seeing them do it. I think I've been on record. I think they should
um
And that had that is no front of miles Garrett who is gonna be a first-out hall famer in my opinion
Um
You know, it's just I look at timelines here and I look at like where he is
And so you know like let's say that the browns knock it out of the park again this year in the draft and so now you've got
You got you got
Carson Swessinger and Nathan Graham and Harold Finn and then Quinchon Judkins
From this year and then next and then and then or from last year then this year you get you know four or five guys for a good
Contributor and then next year you get the quarterback right
So like that would like line up like manage all starting to come together now
And you'd be talking about you 27 like you know, you've got a shot to maybe contend with the young quarterback
Like be a be a relevant team and then 28th the the breakthrough right
At that point miles Garrett is gonna be 32 turning 33 at the end of that year
So the timelines match up and that's like my question, you know or
Would you be better off getting two or three first round picks for him and really juicing your rebuild?
You know
You know, I know it'd be hard to to walk away from miles Garrett. I get that
It's always hard to trade a player that magnitude away
But the way I look at it, you know, you know, it could be for the browns
Sort of what I mean if you want to look back at it what the Seahawks trading Russell Wilson was
You know a lot of the basis of the Seahawks
Subal team this year was built in the back of that trade, you know, and
I think in, you know, sort of a similar way at that Albert. Let's get you back on here
Obviously, we had a tornado warning there go ahead
Yeah, we had a little bit of a tornado warning there
But I did want to ask you Albert about what a return didn't bow down
No, we're we're still standing thankfully um
I did want to ask you about if they decide to entertain
A trade for miles Garrett what that package could look like because we saw what
That crossby almost went for what do you think a return would look like for miles if the browns decided they wanted to entertain that
I did the baseline. I I wouldn't move them for less than two ones. That would be my baseline
I think some of that like him you can be a little bit of a moving target because
You know that first round or you know, where is it and if it's not this year, you know, we're talking about 2027 first round or how do you value that?
Um, you know, so I think like
Two ones would be like my baseline and I would, you know, try to get more and I think, you know, just
I mean, Max is a great great player, but he's not miles Garrett, you know, and so
You know, I think there'd be something out there um, you know in the multiple first round kicks plus range for them and
And again, like it's not bad thing about it to me that makes it so interesting is like
You know, he's 30 so this isn't going to be forever. You know, I mean like his value the chance to do this
Is starting to run a little thin, you know, so I think you still have the opportunity to do it
But the clock's definitely ticking on getting that sort of value for him
Albert the browns had withdrawn their rules change proposal that would have allowed them to trade draft picks up to five years in advance rather than the current three
Did it just never have any legs or was it just about the browns? Oh, what was the deal there?
They knew I think they knew that it wasn't going to get through this year
I think the idea was just to start the discussion which um, I think they accomplished that
And you know giving some teams giving the teams a chance to kind of look at it and
and and and maybe revisit it next year or year after so I think they knew
What good thing was gonna have the thing had very little chance of going through this year
Um, but my expectation is you're probably gonna hear about it again
Albert as we're getting ready for the NFL draft and we're talking about realistic things that can go down for the browns at the sixth pick
It feels like everybody that we're talking to from the draft world is telling us that there's not really a left tackle worth trading at six
There's not really a receiver worth taking at six. Maybe everybody would feel like a reach in that spot
Do you see a world where there would be a player that could be available that teams would want to trade up for so the browns could fall back a few spots
That's tough. I I think
Yeah, I I just I don't see it right now um because
once Mendoza's off the board and even he's not this but
He just don't have like the prototype, you know, like you know like a lot of very good players that maybe aren't
Um aren't perfect prospects at the top, you know, you've got
Um, you know, David Bailey who you know, I think it's seen as like a Nick Benito type of Russia
He's not he's a really good player. He's not my house Garrett
You know, you have our little reuse who you're gonna be projecting. How do you use him off the ball on the ball?
What's the plan for him? You have to have a plan for him
sunny styles an off-ball linebacker non-premium position
Caleb Downes non non-premium position at safety
Jeremiah love non-premium position and running back, you know, so I just I don't know what is going to create
um
We're going to create the market for for for a pick in the top 10
Um, generally takes runs with these positions and and maybe
I think that that you could happen a little later in the top 10 with some of the top pass rushers start coming off
um
But I I don't see anybody taking a big swing to go all the way up
Albert Brear MM QB we appreciate you as always fantastic insight and we'll catch you with you next week
All right, thanks guys. All right. Thank you so much
Albert Brear right there on the maker right call Kyle right hotline
We're at to what Albert had to say in particular about tie Simpson
I thought that was very interesting because the Albert was the guy that was dead on when it came to should or Sanders last year
We didn't listen. He's not in listen to a lot of the warnings that he was given off
He's given some pretty clear warnings when it comes to tie Simpson. We'll react to that. Get your phone calls as well
