Alexandra Eala IMPRESSIVE vs Oleksandra Oliynykova | Post Match Reaction | US Open 2026 Round 3

0:00Hey guys and welcome back to the channel. Alexandra Yarelle is through to round three of the US Open. She's just beaten Ukrainian on a unique cover. And that's after beating Mary Stiardt in the first round. Both matches were one in straight sets. This one was impressive, even though it wasn't the 6162 she had in the first round. The 6164 against a very tricky opponent in the Ukrainian. I think to me was a very impressive display. Especially at first set was almost flawless from her. Really, really impressive performance from the Filipina. And she will face either Eva Yovic or Fran Jones in the next round. They are due to play in the next few hours. Of course if she plays Eva Yovic she's never beaten at before. That will be a tough one. They're very good friends as well. But the fran Jones I think would pose a bit of an easier opponent for Alex if I'm being honest on paper and especially tactically. We can talk about that when we know who she's playing.

1:00For now we can celebrate the second round when, which to me was really impressive by the 17 seed. A few things to talk about. They actually showed on the screen and on the knee cover plays a lot of variety. A lot of moon balls, a lot of slices. She tries to make it very awkward for the opponent. She tries to disrupt them. And what Ayala did very well was taking the ball early inside the baseline whenever Oli Ninkava was not hitting the ball deep enough. She was making sure she wasn't backing up, which a lot of people, a lot of players would do their back up, give themselves time and no, she was going forward. She was taking one of the rides, taking it early. She's coming to the net a lot as well and trying to be aggressive and trying to nullify I guess the variety and especially those moon balls from Oli Ninkava. That to me was incredibly, just incredibly good from the Filipina.

2:00And they showed a stat that said at one point this is the first set. She was taking 42% of her shots inside the baseline. That to me is incredible, aggressive baseline tennis and it just shows that she's always looking to take time away, who's always looking to come forward. And that is just an exciting brand of tennis that I think everyone would love to see. So just a couple of the stats. So 66% of first serves in 76% of first, so points one and 71% of second, so points one. Took five out of her seven break points and was broken twice. But in that first set, the one game she did lose was when she got broken, she broke on the Ninkava every single service game that first set. And on the Ninkava is not a bad server. She's serving around 105 plus mark, miles proud that is. And she was hitting her spots, but Alex just time and time again shows that I think she's probably.

3:03I don't know, I think she might be now a top three returner on tour. Honestly, I think that's how good she is. And what's really good from her perspective is from the baseline. She's so, so good of both wings. So on a Ninkava's quite a few times trying to go slice into that a yellow lefty backhand, but a yellow was just so good at being able to just change direction and actually go cross-court find good angles or depth into the Oli Ninkava forehand, which you think, okay, well, that could be a bit dangerous. But actually, it was a high percentage shot going cross-court, but she found a good enough angle or depth that actually on the Ninkava was not able to hit with anything really aggressive for the most part. Off that forehand wing. So it meant that Alex was still in control of the point, if not on the front foot. So to me, I think she put herself in a really good position for the next round. She's in really good form. I personally think if she were to play either Yovic, she has a very good chance of flipping that head to head

4:07in what could end up being obviously a very, very tight and exciting match. The one thing I will say though is that Alex, to me, she looks so determined on court. In a lot of other matches, I feel like she would be really pumping the face after all first set win, especially off of the way that she won that winning that one, 6-1. Instead, she won it 6-1 and she just looked like it was, okay, we're down to business. This is what I should be doing. I should be winning this set comfortably. Let's roll on. Jobs of done. And that was a similar type of demeanor we got from home. Washington, when she went on to win, of course, that title. So I think there's a lot to be positive and confident about.
