Pouring in curiosity, activating podcasts, let's ignite the experiment. Eureka! Hey, it's Friday, September 11th, 2026. Let's get into it. Last year, NASA announced possible signs of alien life on Mars and K-218 billion, but it turns out most scientists weren't convinced. After surveyed hundreds of astrobiologists, that scientists who study life in space and only 6.6% thought the molecules on K-218 billion were probably alien life. Well just 15.1% believed unusual patterns in a Martian rock represented extraterrestrial biology. Here's what's interesting. When big discoveries make headlines, the handful of experts quoted in news stories don't always reflect what most scientists actually think about the evidence. In nature news, scientists at Monash University in Australia just figured out that most insect

conservation efforts are focused on the wrong places. They're studying areas that only have about 20% of the world's insects. The tropics are home to more than 80% of all insect species, but researchers often fly in from other countries, collect data, and leave without working with local scientists who know the region best. The team says combining museum collections, local knowledge, and even social media posts could help protect insects where they actually live. Here's a story that matters. Rachel Ekami from Nigeria just won a major award for saving critically endangered monkeys. Here's the story. By 2013, only a few hundred Niger Delta Red Colobus monkeys survived from about 10,000 in the early 1990s. That's a huge drop. Ekami worked with local communities to create protected forests where hunting isn't allowed, and it worked. The monkey population in one area doubled from around 180 to about 400 in just three years.

One in nine migratory birds are now threatened with extinction. Nearly half of these species, like cuckoos and arctic turns, are declining. Last year, the slender-billed Curly was declared extinct. That's a huge loss for mainland Europe, Asia, and Africa. The report came out at a summit in Kenya, where countries are working together to protect bird migration routes. It's a crucial step in safeguarding these incredible travelers for future generations. Also making headlines. Two satellites are gearing up for launch from French Guyana on Tuesday night. Flex will detect the faint glow plants give off during photosynthesis, creating global maps to show which plants are healthy or stressed. It's launching alongside Sentinel 3C, which will track Earth's oceans and atmosphere. The launch is set for 3.21am European time on a Vega C rocket. This mission's a big step in understanding our planet's health. Switching to tech, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have used machine

learning to figure out how a super thin layer in lithium ion batteries can boost their performance. This layer, called the interface, is just a few nanometers thick, and it's sandwiched between a battery's electrodes and electrolyte. By understanding and designing these layers intentionally, researchers believed batteries could last way longer. The study was published in advanced energy materials, and here's what's exciting. It highlights the potential for batteries that are way more efficient and durable than what we've got now. Second quiz. Let's see how you do on this one.
