Amentum Takes Over Troubled ICE Detention Center

The management switch at Camp East Montana, the biggest ice detention center in the country,

is now official. A mintem services took over on April 17th from acquisition's logistics,

whose contract got canned amid major scandals. This massive site, built for up to 5,000

detainees, currently holds just 715 people. Acting ice director Todd Lyons, who stepping

down soon, confirmed the handoff during a house hearing on April 16th. Congresswoman Veronica Escabar

from El Paso, pushed for the full contracts on the $1.2 billion project, and Lyons said they're

working. On it, a mintem, a huge Virginia-based government contractor stepped in after

the El Paso Times first flagged the deal back in March. Folks have been up in arms about the

place since it opened last August, with reports of guard abuses, rotten food, filthy conditions,

and barely any medical care. One Cuban detainee died in a homicide rule January 3rd,

and an internal ice probe found 49 violations, including use of force issues and escapes.

Escabar and others called for shutdowns over the mental health crises and 90 emergency calls

in weeks. IC is hyping a mintem's track record in engineering and federal gigs, saying they'll

boost medical standards, processing, and accountability. The center's population has dropped from

nearly 4,000 to 715 per recent data. With a mintem locked in, eyes are on whether they can clean
