I'm Ben Thomas with an AP News Minute.
ICE has been on a hiring spree,
but an AP investigations found sterling credentials
have not been required.
Donald Water has details.
Recently, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
hired 12,000 new officers and special agents
to help carry out mass deportations.
But an Associated Press investigation
has found that some of those hires started working
before passing background checks.
One hire filled the police academy
and lasted only three weeks,
and his only job as a police officer.
Another was accused of arresting a woman on false allegations
while working as a sheriff's deputy.
The incident led to a $75,000 settlement.
Another candidate had two bankruptcies
and six law enforcement jobs in three years.
During a congressional hearing in February,
ICE acting director Todd Lyons described his officers
as well-trained and well-vetted, Donna Warder, Washington.

Basically, a steering contest where everyone loses.
It's crazy what people say during an awkward silence.
Now transactions are done before the silence takes hold.
That means I can focus on the task at hand
and make an extra sale or two.
Sometimes I do miss the bonding time.
