Stocks are following on Wall Street after a surprisingly strong jobs report appeared to increase the chances that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates. Yes, in P500 fell 3.10% in the first hour of trading Friday. The Dow fell 271 points that's about half a percent if the Nasdaq composite gave back 2.10%. The government reported that employers added far more jobs to their payrolls than expected last month. That could give the Federal Reserve leeway to raise its benchmark short-term interest rate to fight inflation. The Fed holds its next policy meeting the later this month.
