commitments but a focus on next steps and financing to shift from pledges to action.

Africa's transition to cleaner energy is adding to concerns over lead poisoning from batteries
used to store solar power.
The problem stems from unsafe battery recycling, much of it handled informally, with an adequate
regulation and weak enforcement 12 years after a toxic battery recycling plant shut down
in Kenya's coastal city of Mambasa, Benjoum Simbler, familiar by village, told the AP,
residents are still living with the scars of lead poisoning.
Despite a 2025 court ruling, awarding damages, many say compensation has not been fully delivered.
