Hello folks, I'm the host of Locked On Jaguars, Tony Wiggins.

I'm here to give you a bonus show here, just like I do each and every day, so let's get right

down to it.

At the second half, we'll talk about the Dove On Wall, that is the offensive line, a person that's

really responsible for me even making that name up those who we're going to talk about first.

That's Robert Hanzi undervalued, but appreciated.

Last year at this time, the Jacksonville Jaguars were in need of a center in like the worst way,

right?

Everybody was talking about a center, a center, a center, and really the name that folks

brought up was Jackson Powers Johnson.

They wanted Jackson Powers Johnson to be drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and I'm telling

you, man, people were on that so bad, I'm like, look, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

And then the Jaguars go out, and then the free agency peer at the very early, identify

Robert Hanzi as a center who had been demoted in Tampa the year prior when Liam Cohen

was the offensive coordinator, and they signed it.

Immediately, everyone goes, he's just the death piece.

Until they saw the contract, that was three years at about 21 million dollars, I said,

nope, that's a starter.

So all of the speculation is like, well, why did we go get a guy who was benched in Tampa?

And my explanation at that time was because the offensive coordinator does not say who should

and shouldn't be playing.

They don't.

That is the general manager in the head coach.

Evidently, Liam Cohen saw something in Robert Hanzi because he signed him to come here

and one of Liam Cohen's former players at Kentucky, Luke Fortner was the incumbent center

here in Jacksonville.

Well, if Mitch Morse was here, but Mitch Morse was going to retire, which he eventually

did, led to a lot of questions about what can this line be about because Liam Cohen

initially, when he took the job, said, we want to break the hood and we want people to

see us coming.

And guys got a block.

Everyone has to block receivers, liners, we're going to be blocking down feeling.

If you watch any take from Tampa with quick tosses, you saw dudes pulling and moving and

getting out into these zones and knocking people off the ball.

They run an offense where you can run zone or gap, okay?

And I'm sure as they continue to evolve, they'll do the thing that they believe is absolutely

best for the team.

But the Jaguar's line did improve last year.

They improved mightily.

And one of those reasons was Robert Hanzi.

I called him the offensive line spirit animal because I literally would see him almost

smiling as he was running down the field on the slow motion replays, chomping at the

bit to line up one of those linebacker safeties or defensive backs.

I think I saw one where he hit a guy he rolled over and as he was rolling over, he was laughing.

And this is what I want.

I want people on our offensive line that embody that spirit where they're going to be laughing

while they are totally running through the chest of the opposition.

I think he set the tone.

He absolutely set the tone.

And when he wasn't in and they had to go with Jonah Monheim or someone else, you really,

really did see the difference.

Robert Hanzi was in camp, moving around a certain way.

And really when you pay attention to how he was able to move, prepare and practice, it

was a thing of beauty that everyone else, it became contagious and everyone else kind

of got to it.

Now it doesn't mean that they can't improve.

It doesn't mean that they need more development from the two young players that they picked

last year in Jonah Monheim who I mentioned and why at Mylam, who they took on day two

of the draft this past season out of West Virginia.

Yeah, they need improvement.

They also need Anton Harrison to keep taking steps towards where he was taking steps to

in order for this team to raise up.

I'm going to discuss all of those guys, but I first wanted to give credit and give

us a look to Robert Hanzi because he outperformed what everyone thought he was going to be when

he got here.

And he absolutely set the tone and training camp.

I look forward to him continue to do that.

We're going to come up with a nickname.

It's going to be called the Duval Wall.

If they improve and get even better, that will lead to the Jaguar even being a team that

is a contender with more shots and a higher probability of getting to where they want to

go.

But before we give them a nickname, they got to improve.

I'll tell you where some of that improvement can come from in just a second here, unlocked

Kicking it down the homestretch here on Locked On Jaguars, here on our bonus show,

We talked about Robert Haines, the catalyst, the center, the guy that makes the line calls.

Now, let's look at the other guys.

We mentioned Jonah Monheim, as well as Wyatt Milum, two guys that were rookies last year,

that got a chance to get their feet wet a little bit with mixed results.

But I expect another year, well, the first year of the offseason program,

as a veteran, not a rookie, being indoctrinated into the NFL,

will benefit both of those guys.

We mentioned that Anton Harrison can take another step off of what I thought was his best season.

Pat McCarrie has to stay a little bit healthy, but he's kind of your Swiss Army night.

And now that we realize that the tackle position is what we always knew it was valuable,

but we saw in free agency that there weren't a whole bunch of options,

especially young options, and there never are in free agency, in my opinion.

Unless they make a trade for someone, Walker Little should be a member of this team,

contract or no contract.

He is a valuable member because of his versatility to play both tackle spots,

as well as even inside it, guard.

Of course, we mentioned Robert Hainesy, Ezra Cleveland,

kind of always gets left out of these conversations,

but I know coming in the last season, he was considered probably the most consistent lineman that they have.

So where can they get this boost?

All of those guys can improve.

All of those guys can get better.

Cole Van Lanning, getting a contract extension, if he continues to play,

the way that he play, the Jaguars will be fine.

Here's where they can get a boost.

We did a mock draft yesterday on the squad show with the host,

Mio Bryant and my fellow analyst, Marcus Ogton, the offensive lineman.

Hey, Markees convinced me.

He convinced me instead of taking a pass rusher at 56 to take Jennings Dunker from Iowa,

and that's who we decided on.

Big, physical, run stuff with the haircut that matches this city.

Haircuts aside, I do think that there's room to add one more dominant player

and create competition that even if you demote someone to the point where they can start maybe

grooming while at mile to be the left guard who will eventually replace Ezra Cleveland, right?

This is how you elevate your elevate with competition.

You don't rest on your laurels, but just imagine this.

You draft Jennings Dunker in the second round and Jennings Dunker does what a lot of players have done

that have been drafted in the second round late in the second round.

You would come on all pro, kind of like the center over in Kansas City, right?

That could happen.

We've seen guys get picked on day two, day three that became symbols of consistency and dominance

on the offensive line.

I think the Jaguars will have a shot to do that.

That will be someone I know they'll get an offensive line,

because Tony Bacelli isn't going to go a draft without adding one of those big dudes

to put on this team to create more and more competition.

Versatility, too, because he's a guard who can actually play tackle,

and that's something that the Jaguar is seeing to value.
