On this day, April 8, 1974, baseball legend Hank Aaron hit his 715th career home run while
playing for the Atlanta Braves, breaking the long-standing Major League Baseball home run record
previously held by Babe Ruth. Also on this day, in 1864, the Battle of Mansfield took place during
the American Civil War. Also on this day, in 1990, Ryan White, whose battle with AIDS helped change
public perception of the disease died at age 18.
