Araghchi says Strait of Hormuz 'closed to our enemies', Baghdad hotel drone attack

Now the US is facing growing isolation over its plan to reopen the state of Hormuz. Iran

effectively blocked the key shipping route after the US and Israel launched a military offensive

on Tehran. A fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas normally passes through

the strait. President Trump has called for countries to send warships and minesweepers

to ensure tankers can transit safely. But he's been frustrated by the lack of support.

Well the European Union's top diplomat says the block has no desire to extend the Red

Sea naval mission to help reopen the strait of Hormuz, while Germany's chancellor says

NATO powers should not get involved.

Well Iran's foreign minister insists the strait of Hormuz will remain closed for enemies,

including Washington and its allies. Disruption of the vital shipping route has caused havoc

on global energy markets. Meanwhile on the ground in Iran the unrelenting

US and Israeli attacks continue. These were the scenes in Tehran, where efforts to rescue

people trapped under rubble have continued into the night.

Air strikes hit several parts of the capital on Monday, including a residential area.

Iran's health ministry says nearly 19,000 civilians have been injured since the US and

Israel launched their first attacks on February 28. And almost 1,500 people have been killed.

Air defenses and Baghdad have intercepted a second drone after reports of an explosion

near the US Embassy. Security sources tell Al-Jazeera that the drones exploded near the embassy

compound in the Iraqi capital. The location has been subject to repeat the attacks throughout

Monday. It's located in the city's heavily fortified green zone.

Well, early on Monday explosions were reported at the same location near the US Embassy in

the Iraqi capital. The attack on the hotel caused a fire on the rooftop. Security forces

cordoned off the air and closed roads. The Iraqi interior ministry says there were no casualties.
