Men In Blazers — Arsenal overcome Napoli, Liverpool dispatch Atletico Madrid, and can PSG three-peat?: European Nights 09/09/26. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
You're listening to the Men in Blazers media network, suboptimal radio. Champions League is back in all living arms. Arsenal grind down Napoli. Morton Urdegard is a man of WALKO Liverpool. At last the goal scorer who's done them so much, he mockingly a crap you not, named his pet dog and field PSG and Barcelona blowouts, made long for the knockout rounds already. We'll break all of this down. This is your opinion nights. Now a post game rather than a pre-game this season. The footballers have played the actual games. Now we'll do the hard part. Sit in our chairs alongside you and talk about it all. Let's dive in and joined. By multilingual maradona of journalism it's a Lancer zone. Mr James Owen Castle. Hello,
Roch. I am lemon pepper wet for this European night. Champions League is like being back in Magic City with you and Rory and Humph. So that never happens. So let's start at the stab you. Yeah. One man do a marathon. Napoli nail. Arsenal won. Arsenal's journey of vengeance. Trying to redeem themselves for that defeat to Ibiza final boss. Paris Saint-Germain begins in one of the most passionate footballing cities in Europe. Not quite as intimidating. They say, what have been a couple of years ago, Hamas? No, absolutely not. Even the locals didn't all show up for this. Roch. I mean, it's the centenary year, but clearly there's some parties going on which are better than the football that Max Allegri is serving up. So yeah, not as intimidating. Still a great place to go though for our listeners. I recommend it. I would love. There's a few cities I would love to go more with you, James. I have a short list of horny cities. That's Horn Castle. Not, you know, up for it, cities. But Napoli loses
a two-street in the league. Not that Napoli, if I'm a imagination. Squad-wise or tactically, in terms of their commitment to Buckenairing. You mentioned him. New coach, old friend, Max Allegri, kind of got them seeding possession, snapping forward on occasion here. They set up early and often with KDB, Kevin DeBroyne, a 35-year-old master. Again, his first start at the season. Man, James, you played out of his socks. He was like watching an Arthur Miller character play football, and Man who wanted the world to say his name. Yes, indeed. In a crucible that, as we've mentioned, wasn't boiling. But no, he played as if he thought he was back in the Premier League. He's like, oh, God, it's Arsenal. It's a big game. I'm going to step up because, yeah, poor KDB, you know, he's since he's been at Napoli's, he's been injured. Which, look, it's a great place to be injured. I'd just be down by the beach in Marigare. Chopped ten cities in the world to be injured. Eating fried fish, you know, sort of... The restaurants fully booked tonight. No worries, sir.
Let me bring this table for you and your wife. I'm telling the styles. Exactly. So, no, he was playing out of his skin tonight because he hasn't been playing. Max Allegri has been sort of ignoring him. So, I think, dare I say, that a week after the transfer window closed, it's a common get me plea. I can still maybe do another season in the Premier League. I don't know. If Burnley get promoted, we would love to see you at surf more, Kevin. You know, it was, there was an old kids game. We used to play in England. You may have to Google this and I can't believe I'm talking about it. It's with matches where you kind of get two at the end of the box and one down and light it. And it was called Grandad's last direction. And that's what I thought about watching Kevin DeVruina play so up for it today. I also thought, you know, all people can do great things. Colonel Holland Sanders did not invent Kentucky fried chicken. James had to leave a 62. There's a global chain. Having been in Atlanta and tasted some of the best soul food that you can imagine. You know, I mean, Colonel Sanders, Atlanta's given you one hell of a beating. Yeah, you're telling me,
killers, others did not invent fried chicken. In the same way as the Beastie boys did not invent hip-hop. I don't know. I just don't know. Arsenal God bless dominated had 53 percent possession. 13 shots in that first half of the thing. They're most on the road in the champion's but a finish was wildly uncalibrated. There's one stunning chance. It was like the matrix of football, Eberichierse, leaping up to head across the face of goal. Marino, just a golden chance headed its sharply straight the keeper. Beautiful Bucayev over club the one-on-one chance in Cappie with Sir Really Wild. And Yoccares, first start the season, really a non-factor. Really the story of that first hour was a resurrection of the elite striker rod with rich to beat the arth. Yeah, and I mean, look, as much as we've downplayed Napoli, this is a team that has won the league in two of the last three years. It has got a kind of
serial win as a catch. So we shouldn't basically tell Arsenal that this was just a regulation win for themselves. I remember there was a time when Napoli played Arsenal at the studio, Maradona and they beat them 2-0 and then they went to the Emirates and played in a camouflage kit and Raffanita's claim he couldn't see them and they lost 2-0. They were eliminated from the group with 12 points. So, Shapo Arsenal. I love that very, very Raffanita's explaining away that he couldn't see his own players, camouflage works, kids. Don't toy with it at home. Longer the game went on now and this I think is the greatest tribute to Arsenal. You just see their football grinding their opponent down both physically but also mentally. There was a period around the 17th minute where it became almost football without suspense. Yes, it was tied but you knew it would not be at the final whistle. 75th minute, my friend, close and personal Ben White and the mighty potent Neutross Sard Solis, 4 assists in 5 games. Is that good? Fed Urdegard, who from distance with confidence and
belief and just ferv, lash, lash, bashed, 5 feet high and rising into that net. Four goals in 5 this season. I'm so happy, humanly. For Martin Urdegard, we all wrote him off. Rumors of his demise. 13 straight wins in the opening league stage for Arsenal. That is incredibly impressive. The consistency of it. That requires mentally as much as anything. But it was a game over all James. I hate to say this. Did make me wonder at times what the point is of this big random opening group stage we have to sit to. Yeah, I mean just going back over previous Arsenal Napoli games. This is no longer kind of a novelty. This is what that new format throws up. A lot of big games, but we see those big games more regularly and I think that takes some of the novelty off them. Look, it's one of the reasons why I think the stadium was not as full as it was. But those who did get to the Maradona. I mean the Urdegard goal, we shouldn't skip over that.
It was fantastic. Fizzing shot from outside the box. Fizzing like one of those mad limonata drinks they give you in the Spanish quarter, which is a bit of lemon, bit of sparking water. And then for no reason at all, bike-arbonate of soda. So it makes you look silly because it just froths all over you. And I was quite happy to let the Urdegard goal froth all over me, Roger. Does it make you bell? Shut drink. Yes, it really does. Anything with bike-arbonate, it comes back quickly. But it comes back with a nice lemon twist. When you're a kid, you're just forcing those burps, those with the days to Anfield, the stadium, not the dog, Liverpool 2. That's like a Madrid won, a game which opened, with the against type, opening goal for Athleticay, one away striker Hullian Alvarez, a new signing Christian Romero made the first start to the season. And against the opening press, Alvarez made it look easy with a clever clever through ball. And for an old familiar foe for Liverpool fans,
five goals in three games at Anfield. However, to not sign this man, more caution rentate. And my love scoring at Anfield so much. A crappy not. He's named in the dog. I think it's a pug. He's named it Anfield. James, just the amount of petty disrespect. You have to respect it. You do. I mean, you say Anfield, the stadium, not the dog, but he does seem to take the cop for a walk every couple of years. And this is a guy that doesn't really score anywhere else. So, I mean, you asked Everton how have you not signed this guy? I mean, Roger, have you learnt nothing from deadline day? This is too soon. Too soon. But, anyway, you told me that he has a number of dogs. Is this like his thing, you and he is an incredible character, right? Yes. You know, every conspiracy theory on the internet, how does your aunt seem to believe them? And so, I wonder why his other dogs are called.
I don't know if he feeds. He takes Anfield to a walk with chemtrails. He wants to keep him from... He can unfil the dogs. Come here and chemtrails. I've heard worse name for dogs. Just Google your intake because he is the kind of person who would actually have called one of his dogs Anfield and the other one Alex Jones Info Wars. He's been a wonderful... Come here Alex Jones Info Wars. Stay. Oh my God. A little more behold, Bradley Barkeola made Liverpool the first team in human civilization. And I'm not being hyperbolic. To start three players, each purchase for over a hundred million pounds, hundred and thirty five million dollars, EZAC votes and now double B managed to miss a sitter when the school was tied and then exited. With some concern, it's going to be said, well, holding his left calf, that equalizer five minutes before half time,
bullpicking, punging around in and out of athletic box until you're right back. Barcelona, Lone, run out of that alho. Just uncorked a deliciously mischievous, fine this goal if you've not seen it. Back he'll assist to set up Dom's sobberslide. After the ball, call the miss sitter. Another gentleman who seems surplus to requirements. And I'm filled. Alexis McAllister, Stampton, to a Webber defenders, to give Liverpool a lead, they would not relent. It's a wild to me, James, the GACPOW, and Alexis McAllister for all the crap of last season and on the slot on now players reborn. Particularly Alexis. I mean, I had the joy of watching him four or five times at the World Cup. And he was a completely different player from the one who really looked like he was running through treacle for Liverpool last season. His goal against Athleti was everything that you want from a box-crashing,
all-action midfield player, which he was for Argentina. And does that mean that he merits a new contract? His press conference on the eve of the game, I thought it was actually really interesting, people, the reaction to it, people kind of questioning, you know, why do you think you deserve one? And yet this is guy who won the league a couple of years ago and has been part of a two teams that have reached World Cup finals. And I think he said all the right things. You tell me a reminder of you of an Argentinian, a. L. and Overson. Yes. Yeah, to the point where, yeah, I think he couldn't believe on the back of, let's say, the last two months, why he, it seemed like he was, he was almost being offered for a trade. I'm not saying that he was, he's been the MVP for Liverpool because he certainly wasn't that season. He's still got a lot to offer. So, yeah, pay the man, sign him up, you're paying everybody else
Liverpool. Even way by the way, two more paying people are benchers weaker than chain restaurant, coffee and don't year-old. His European management record, I've sent out one game played, one game won, which I think is probably the most significant aspect of the day. Till last night, Porto Nile, Manchester City 2. The morning before the game, all the news in football was really about how intimate risk is now motivating his players by blasting house music from large city branded speakers. That's a detail I love, but he didn't use speakers, but their city branded, while they trade. I do believe I've always said this, it's a life choose, nothing more to hate to leave football as modern, the blast of David Gettys, James. City, like the rest of the teams, will be targeting 16 points from the eight games in this opening round to get through. Here they started 18 year old prodigy, IU Bawaddi. I was in a short tidy, full debut, I loved watching him alongside Enzo Fernandez City had 69% possession in that first half, Nice, Porto
failed to record a single shot on target. It's kind of said city was sluggish, lacking in position till two goals from the inevitable early in the hall and change out in the second half. First, a kiss of his downy bulled head, second, a caress precision roller. We're going to look at these numbers, James, because I'm going to say them, but they almost, the words I'm going to wash over you and do not do justice, 59 goals in 59 Champions League games. Man is 26. When do you hear those numbers? 59 and 59. James is the whole Champions League of Farmers League. I mean, this is a man who loves nothing more than being on a farm early in Ireland, buying Tomahawk steaks, milk, that sort of thing. So maybe that's why he feels so at home, Rodsport. To think, those goals have also come when he's been at Salzburg playing on the Jesse Martino. Yeah, I mean, a great footballing mind. By the way, the greatest America has ever
produced, pound for pound, I will not have any Jesse Mart, disrespect on this show. These numbers, put them into context for us. Can you even put them into it? They don't make sense. It's almost like watching a Mondays do plantas do his thing. It's just like, yeah, he's broken another world where you just become numb to it. It is Mondo-like. I don't know what they feed these people in Scandi these days. It is a, I'm going to wake up and break a record today. I was with Clabo, the cross-country skier who won six gold medals at the Winter Olympics. These guys just built differently, Rods, they're not like you and me. Sorry, you're going to finish this story. Where were you just casually with Clabo? I was at the top of the ski jump in Holman, Colin, which is, I think it's on top of a fiorl overlooking Oslo, which is where the Norway's Winter Olympians are just like the hardest men and women on earth train. And Clabo is,
I think the closest to breaking Michael Phelps is kind of a Olympic record when it comes to winning golds and big Alexander Sauloth fans. So, you know, he likes an underdog story among Norwegian strikers. I don't know what you were doing there, but I do like to think that when you're on the slopes, you carry a backpack, but when you fall off the slopes, when chased by machine gunning attackers, it just don't funds up and it turns into like a union jack. Yeah, yellow ski suit, like Roger Moore in, yeah, very good. He should hear about the Napoli kits they wore, the camouflage. He's got the opposite. He's like, come and shoot me, yellow, yeah. Yeah, they did look like Bond villain outfits, actually, as I'm being pursued whilst I ski down a bobslay run. I'm doing it. I'm joking, but I've got you. My honest vision is close to the truth. Manchester United, await to the weekend for City next up in the Champions League, the visit of Paris and German.
We'll run to a couple of the other games yesterday in Tamalan 1, Real Madrid 2. Juicy Munoz, a Gates one of his beloved Xs. An old game. The Italian's actually dominated this 70% possession in the first half. Courtsua ultimately is what tells you what you need to know. Man, of the match, but Madrid's goals both came from self-inflicted mistakes. First by the full fans. Love this. I found this in world to watch them feast on one other. Courtesjones, who deli'd on the ball in a way that made every red and new both laugh and get PTSD and equal measure. It was finished by Killingham Bappe, 71st Champions League, old time for fifth full-time in the list. He's 27 and despite the score, into much the stronger team, 21 shots completed 94% of the passes, highest completion rating against Madrid in the Champions League since I think 2004. Juicy Munoz said post-game, the game was mad and not a madness I like. Comes after rail lost. Against Timo Real, Betis in the league last weekend. Let me ask you, James. Juicy Munoz,
two electric Bugleau at the Bernabéu bou. This is not the Juicy we all love and loath in equal measure. He's not the merino that we think about in his pomp. He's not one of the trophy since that fig Lee for the conference league with Roma, 2020, before that was 2016, 2017. The trophy's with the United. Since then, he's kind of wandered around, you know, law-laping through Turkey with Fenerbahce. And yes, the unbeaten season with Benfica, where he still can try not to win anything. I don't want to leave title in over a decade, 63. We know football is for young managers now, with big brains, big tactical minds that can fit their beautiful bodies into tight, expensive, athletic sports casual. So can you put merino into perspective? Where is he now? What does the name Juicy Merino really mean other than kind of like a fading a-lister, kind of like the Aaron Paula football? I think he keeps doing this because whenever I walk down a very expensive Italian high street where all the luxury stores are,
I think I've now ticked off that, you know, in this season, Jose was dressed by this expensive Italian boutique. And that season, it's this one. He's just like a walking close-house now. He's gone through the... He's in it for the clues. I think he's in it. I think he's in it for the moment. It's Farragamo. Last year, I think it was Zenia. I think this is just what he does. I know. I have a thing, Mauritio Portiattino is only in it for like 10% off at Hugo Boss. No, and he said the game was mad last night. And I'm only joking here, why it says, maybe he didn't coach the team because these days, certainly since he's been back at Madrid, it feels like his one job is not to coach the team. It's to be a height man for killing and back pay to win the ball and all. That's all he does. He's just saying, Killian is stratospheric. He's the best I've ever seen. I used to... When I was a translator for Louis Van High, I didn't say that. And I got to coach Ronaldo Nazaria with Bobby Robson. I got to see him
every day. Killian's like that. He's unbelievable. He was on French TV last night breaking out his French. You know, Jose's not worked in France, but there he was on Camel Poulouse giving it the hard sell for Killian and back pay to win the ball and all, which of course is awarded by a French magazine. And he's there just telling anecdotes in French about him back pay. So he's in back pay's height, man. That's what he does these days. So quick question for you to put this into context. Which new manager will make it further into this competition? Jose Marene, Enzo Mareska and Donia Rola. What about Seth Fabricas? That's really... That's probably the right answer. I mean, I... Seth, his style football and his style of management excites me a great deal. I mean, they were in Pop 4. They've got a really difficult draw come out against the likes PSG Barcelona, Manianite, etc. But Seth does some very special things there. I'm getting more and
more on the Mareska train. I'm a say-rodge. I like their signings. Buaddi and Porto, you mentioned him. I think he had a better time in Porto than you did on your post-war cup holiday. He looked like he was... He looked especially silky in that midfield. And I think that midfield now looks like it could be... it could be very good with Anderson and Enzo in there as well. I think that's... So I'm getting inclined to say city at this moment. I'm with Mareska. Cross of an assist. And then departed early, dramatically, on 56 minutes after a two-year-old not-know-who-Iam Sneaky elbow to the face of Railbetter's defender Natan. James, Ethan is 19.
Is he the Frank Stallone of Unbappé's or will-ename Ethan? Soon saw him around the glue. Or the Hugo Maradona of Diego. Look, from what I've been told about Ethan, like when he was at PSG with Killian, it wasn't just because he was there with as Killian's brother, as the guy to kind of carry his boots around for him. It's because he's a a talent in his own right. And so Leo, know how to pick a player, as we've seen over the last few years. They don't have any passengers in that team. And so I think we should keep following Ethan closely. If only had a hype man like Josie Moreno, people would hear more about him. So, as soon as he'd tell him he's the Jew-bellinger of Unbappé's. Yeah, and look, I think that's what that's what should Killian do. Killian, after he wins the Belandor in a few months' time, he's just basically, say, Josie now work with my brother.
There you go. God bless us, here's how he, man, we all need. Anyway, we all need a hype man in our life. In other games, PSG opened up a kind of whoop-ass, however you say that in French. The summer of Feran continues. Feran Torres netted three times in a six-one beat down of Yeh-ya Tours, Slovian Bratislava. Yes, I just said that. Yeh-ya Tours, Slovian Bratislava, talking about that in a second boss, although that blasted five past Feyenoord, Refinius Good twice. Well, that ecstatic 19-year-old teen goat, Luminium-al, had a goal and two assists. Hansi Flick's boy scored five goals in further games so far this season. Asden Villa ignited their campaign at Club Roush after a familiar slow start. No goals in their first February games. Remember last year, their first goal of the season came from one John McGinn in their first European match. And he did the same here, opening the screen, what ended up a three-two victory. So they were ahead to schedule, even Nico Jackson scored. His first for the Villa, they back just in time for Feran's starter weekend. James, we have seen
two-thirds of this big bloated opening round match day, which is more than enough to make knee-droek predictions. Spoiler alert us, who will be in the semifinals, the final four at the end of this Champions League season. So I think PSG, real statement, even though it was against Slovian Bratislava, should tip our hats to Yeh-ya Tours, I think becoming what the first African coach to work in the Champions League and know the result didn't go his way, but credit to him. So PSG, Barça, don't need a striker, they've got Roderie, Arsenal and I'll say City. You're not going from one unsuspecting, just organised, disciplined, Italian outside, it'll get ramrodded in the semifinals. I think I mean, I always talk up into it and they've hurt me over the last few years, going out to Bolo Climch last season. I would like to
think Roma in their sense in the year, and maybe you could swap supporting one Friedkin club for another one, Rodge, in Roma as Roma gone to reach a Champions League semi-final. Not publicly right now. James, I'm off of head. We'll go to Rome together and I'll convert you. I'd love, I'd love, I did wear to my last game at Goodison of Roma hat, you know, supporting this hashtag team Friedkin. We all drive to Yeh-ya Tours now, and let's just end the whole game, people are like, well you've got to know my hat's on, lad. So God bless, completely and utterly unconnected emotionally. It is too early to tell right now, but one thing I find fascinating as we do approach all of this, the needs acknowledging, there's a serially for me, no Pep Guardiola in the Champions League first time since his last sabbatical 2012-13, but his legacy lives on. Incredibly
four former players of Pep's now coaching in this Champions League v-On Company, so trying to keep baggy B-boy clothing happened on the Bayern Munich sideline Martin D. McKellis, newly installed at Arbe Leipzig, Alexander Colerov, a system manager at Inter, and as we mentioned the incredible Yeh-ya Tours is taking this first manager job at Slovak and Bratislava. That's just utterly, utterly remarkable. It was very, very hard for him to go up against his teammate of Pep's for five years as well as his direct replacement of boss, a B back in 2008 Lewis and Rikay. It's incredible, man. Pep and Jürgen Klopp, not currently in club football, but Pep Soul, it lives on James. Yeah, it really does. Not only when he's been facetimeed by Erling Harland as he shows his head, you know, Pep is everywhere. The Pep Baradaym is in the background.
Yeah, I wonder when we'll see him again. He will have been watching the Champions League tonight, because when he was facetimeing Harland through that haircut, he was watching football. This is a man who doesn't seem to be able to switch off even when he's switching off. I did think when I watched that video, when he clicked off, what do you think he felt? Was it just like a sadness, like crusty, the clown, when he goes off stage, just like, is this who I am now, just a hair consultant? I mean, I suppose in Pep, it would make you quite proud, you know, as he was talking about his himself being folically challenged to be a hair consultant. Again, just shows how influential he is. You don't need hair to be much the same way that Eriegosackie said, you don't have to be a horse to be a jockey. You don't have to have hair to be a hair consultant. Take it from me, you cannot do. I just, that video, I thought a lot about it, the Harland hair video.
I was just also like, you know, in the olden days, people used to stay on the phone for ages. Age, you just chatting away while you're doing the washing up, chatting away at night, you could spend a whole night chatting to your mate on the phone. Like the Harland Pep call, I couldn't tell whether it was short just because Harland's YouTube people, just the toll pep, keep it short, you've got to keep people hooked to pretension games on YouTube, you've got to keep people moving. Pep is not very good on the phone, you know what I mean? He's like, hey, it was really, it was like a nice version of pipe by, it was like, I was like, Pep, not a phone guy. If you've watched the documentary on Amazon about City, it, he seems to be a man who, when he communicates, he needs movement. I don't get the impression he's just a static talker. He needs to be moving things with his hands when he's talking. So maybe the phone just doesn't lend itself to that, Roger. Hi, bye. Okay, it's time. Lewis and Rika, two-time treble winner, PSG,
Captain Markiness openly targeted the treble ahead of the season, not afraid of talking about it, which would mean that PSG would join by Munich, Iaxx and Real Madrid as the only teams to ever win, three European cups in a row. Their title defense began with a six-one blowout over Slava, Bratislava, Slavaki as Finestran Torres with a hat trick, Uzman, Dembele, a brace to assist. One of the goals come from 18-year-old Drove Fernandez's pass-all coach by the great Indomitable Lewis and Rika, former Barça contingent, thriving in Paris. But despite today's win, PSG, no strangers to slow starts, 2012. Last time they began the season without a win in the first three league games of the season. They ended up winning that league at a counter, and in each of the last two champions, the big, big, big boy group phrases, they finished 15th and then 11th, they really phoned in. They had to advance through the playoff phase on the way to winning the
trophy back to back. This season domestic form was four-played and 0-1, two-defeat, seven goals conceded. Their 13th, coming only 13th in the French league. It's almost the surreal achievement. New left back signing from Ashton Villa Lucas, Dignier said, we've had a less of a preseason, so it's been difficult. It's not an excuse, but it's an assessment. My love for those words, listen, who cares, shrugged when asked about their form? He says, football is inexplicable. That's for this a real quote. That's football. It's a quote, crappy sport, but he's already bet pressed back during this PSG. Well, win the league. God, would you just take it their money? So James, should we be concerned at all about the early form? I mean, again, is this just PSG doing hair and tortoise stuff? Yeah, the PSG handicap. We'll give you seven points, and then we'll will overtake you in October. This is the best run for football club in the world right now,
which sounds obvious when they're back-to-back champions, but anyone who's followed PSG over the last 15 years, it shouldn't be obvious. It felt like being extravagant was in their DNA, and losing was in their DNA when it came to the Champions League in quite spectacular fashion. And instead, this summer, they've sold players for more than 400 million. Bradley Bakola goes to Liverpool. I'm sure he'll have a good career there, but Mr. City tonight and... Gonzalo Ramos to fulfill the charter dream of Lincoln out with Christian Policic at AC Milan. Lincoln again, now athletic in Madrid, he but him and by, arriving for roster rebuild, Aston Villa, in their place, Spanish World Cup winning goal scorer, just World Hearts Rob, Fran Torres, him from Barcelona, Monaco's talented winger, Magnus at Acleos and Belting forward, Mika Gold, Zim from Ajax, each cost a thing less than 60 million.
So I'm fascinated. These moves, what drove them? And did they change anything we should expect stylistically and resultistically if that's a word from PSG? So, Roger, I mean, they haven't been part of this rat race that we've seen in the transfer market where everybody's spending over 100 million on players. And yeah, they've got the means to do it, and they're just so convinced in their model that they don't have to do it anymore. In fact, I think PSG with the kind of knee jerk club once upon a time, it was like, oh, we've been embarrassed by Barcelona. Let's go and pay 220 million for NEMAR. Or in Bappé's had a good season. Let's go and pay 180 million for a messy's available. Let's go get messy. And now they're just like, Yandia Mandi, yeah, we think what Real Madrid pays too much. We're not going to pay that, so we're happy. Cavera Skelio and they signed him. They tried to sign him this summer before they
did. Napoli us for a lot of money. They were like, we're not going to pay that. Came back in January. Got it for more or less half the price. Zayn Suzuki this summer. They were like, yeah, we like him, but we're not going to pay that for him. And he went to Villa. So there's like a discipline about PSG, which was not a characteristic of theirs in the first 10 years under the Cotaris. And it's just made them a formidable operation. I mean, you mentioned Aglius. He was magnificent tonight. One of Ferrantorra's his goals. Two new signings coming in. Lovely, mazy dribble. Then a ball to Ferrantorra's on the edge of the box. Fantastic finish. It just looks like they're very sure about themselves. And at the weekend, okay, they lost a Monaco, but they did something that's actually really difficult to do in football, which is, by the way, we've announced all of
these contract renewals at the same time. We've got everyone to sign on the dotted line simultaneously. That never happens. We were talking about Liverpool earlier with Alexis McAllister and Cody Gackbaugh. I mean, Liverpool would love to have had. Do you remember that summer when they had the second half of season when they had Trent Moesal and Virgil Van Dyke's contracts are up? And it was it was dragging on and on and on. PSG, that sort of drama just doesn't happen. It only doesn't happen at PSG and any team owned by Marinakis. Very similar success on the field. Yeah, but I mean, you get the feeling of the sign. Quick question. What one team is best equipped to beat PSG this season and what? Oh, I still think Bayern. I didn't name them in my four teams to be in the semi-finals because I forgot them. But I think Bayern have the tools to be able to take on PSG at their sort of own game.
And I think they will, what Bayern have is continuity, continuity in the coach. You know, they've only made a couple of signings this summer. Nathaniel Brown and Sybarri, who was very good for Morocco, but they get better every year. So I still think Bayern are probably the best place to challenge them. I actually asked them, man. I don't know, man. I mean, I know last season they had 100% record in the league phase and beating regulation entire tournament and conceded just seven times total. And they still got beat when it came to the Mano Mano. All I say is I just root for them. This campaign more than I can say. From reigning champion PSG, let's quickly look at a heartwarming story. For what we expect to be the other end of the table. A story that I know delight you. It's first time as Sybar formed 2017. It's nine years again. As a Bayern league club based in a tiny municipality called Massazier, which literally means
a place of sand. I mean, God bless. Does what it says on the 10th, 30 miles north of Baku, population 19,000 and manager Valdas Dambraus Cass became a meme last month when they qualified for the Champions League. Why James? He was on the Thuanyan version of who wants to be a millionaire. Tell us the story. By the way, Thuanyan, I think that game is probably called, come on, ask questions, slightly dodgyly done and maybe win some money because they're a little place of sand. Dambraus Cass, he goes on who wants to be in there and he doesn't really get very far. He only wins about a thousand dollars, which goes a long way in the place of sand. Absolutely. That's probably two questions in. I'm now thinking, did he like phone a friend on the first question? Did he guess the audience? He used up all his lifelines, but then the second question, and then the question, he just clapped and walked off to give him all out of the game.
He's a complete afterthought in the history of Lithuanian who wants to be a millionaire. Well, you don't know if it's what it's called there, maybe because he wants to be a thousand dollar air there. That's a lot of money, man. In Asabizyan, I'm sure. And look, Dambraus Cass is a winner, regardless of whether you won that contest or not, because he used that money to come to the UK and do his coaching badges. That's the magic of all the places to do your coaching badges. He comes to the UK and you're first league phase champions in the game, he's at the theatre of the dreams against Michael Carrick's Man United. It's, yeah, this, it does feel like we're in a simulation sometimes. These things don't happen, shouldn't happen, but do happen. I find it really amazing. I mean, these are the stories I had you loved. This team, Sabah, didn't exist a decade ago. Scots were 21 and a half million dollars total. Stadium fit 9,000,
which I think is about half the population of Masazir, the place of sand, to be honest, it's pretty big. They're ending up burying a larger stadium in Baku for these games. The owls, they've navigated four rounds of champions that you qualify to get here. Next date, guaranteed games include for them, Barcelona, Arsenal, Napoli and Berusha Dortmund, which is for them, probably an extra seat, but for him, no more pressure than the bright lights if he wants to be a millionaire, right James? No, no. He's suffered that humiliation of going home with just a thousand dollars. If it was that. Someone right in and tell us, is a thousand dollars like a big prize, maybe it's more than it sounds in us. Maybe they're opening round first question, you just get given a potato. Yes, maybe that's the prize scheme there. You get a potato, you get some
herring, you get some, by the way, by your own, you're on, you're on, you're on, you're on, going to work your way up. The full question you get an owl. And that's when he knew it was destiny, when he got the sabber job. It was like, I'm going to the place of sad. Good question, everyone, that's getting in football. James, what would you do when you weren't a thousand dollars from as a bourgeoisie game, a game of wheel of whatever it's called, who wants to be a thousand dollar, what would you do with a thousand dollars? He made his dream come true. He made something out of nothing. What would you do? I'd use it for my campaigns to become the next mayor of Atlanta. It would be, it's still on the nation, Ron. I think a lot of politics thing you've suspended the campaign, but this is your statement. It's still on, right? Yeah. I mean, would it, would it be controversial? No, because I actually made that money myself. I wouldn't be taking it. Self-made. Yeah, self-made, you know, that I'm going on various game shows in various
Eastern block countries in order to fund to my ambitions to become the mayor of Atlanta. Let's make it happen. For metting at the mouth saying, James Horncastle is not the privy to like packs and super packs. I'm here to serve you. Taking money from you. But anyway, I do think as of as Johnny, who wants to be a millionaire, is based on that Norwegian football club burn, they reward their star player with four trees of eggs for the money. That's it's influence and I just love it very quickly. Before we wrap, I don't know what a deal of someone gave me a thousand dollars just like that. What my dream would be for that. I think I'd probably either give it to charity or get a third to Turkey, you know, just get a little, I can't head the ball. Why, Ron, I just don't want to talk about it. That's very quick before we wrap. Not a Champions League question, but one from our mailbag written by Lou Whale of Nashville, Tennessee. I almost did my Nashville accent. It's not very good. So I just saved the world.
Lou writes the following. The real million dollar question, all right, where you did there, is what's happening with Christian, Policic. Oh, God, that pulled the mood down. AC Milan, they're not in the Champions League this year, they're in the Europa League and the Rubin Amorim. Remember him, old friend. And he's left, Policic on the bench, entirety of the first three games. Yes, he was injured July 17th in the, the World Cup at the Balagan game against Belgium and the World Cup. I think it was a Michael fracture. Just explain what is going on at AC Milan is, Policic out of favor for Amorim. I've got to say, there's been very little outcry from the Milan fan base that he's not playing. And the fact he didn't make a move elsewhere over the summer means what, James? I don't think he could have made a move in the summer given that he had this micro fracture. Amorim was texting him whilst he was away at the World Cup. I think, I think Policic had appreciated that. But he missed a lot of preseason. He didn't play any friendly games. And Amorim is one of those coaches that kind of need to see you do stuff in a game.
Otherwise, you have to train at Mad Intensity for him to get you into the team. And I think there's been some surprise with, with Christian that the first game of the season. He was already back in the squad and he didn't, he didn't come on. So it's kind of why name him in the squad if you don't have an intention to, to use him. And then against Juventus at the weekend, Amorim played at in Rabio as a right-sided number 10. And Christian didn't come out, didn't come on. So I think once he gets minutes and once he actually plays, Amorim will be like, oh yeah, I've got Christian Policic back. But until he does that, it feels like Christian is just kind of sat on the bench, twiddling his thumbs. We'll see if that changes in the Europa League. What's stopping him? Because he has said he's down the deck chart right now. Yeah, and if you look, Milan have, they're playing at Juventus in Rabio there, where he's out,
he's kind of out of position. They've got Amari Hutchinson, who they sign from Nottingham Forest, who can, who can play there. And also the revelation of this season so far at Milan is their teenage winger Alfa Megazise, as he's been called, who will probably be in Italy squad for the Nations League. So there's a lot of competition for places at Milan. And I think he has to show in training to Amorim that he is ready to play. And I think Amorim at the moment, he's obviously had preseason with some other players and feels he can trust them more. But I think if you're Christian, you're like, you look at Adry Rabio and you kind of say, well, Rabio is at the workup longer than I was. So I need minutes just as much as he does. It's just that when Rabio came on against Torino, he changed the game. So it's a tough spot. Come on, Cavant Sullivan. That's all.
At the feast of football, we've got to talk about long-term lessons. That means one thing, we have to feast before we leave to celebrate Lewis. In the case of new contract extension at PSG, if we're going to take him out to celebrate, James, how are we taking him in Paris? Raj, I used to go and have Thanksgiving dinners in Paris. Some friends of mine, Americans who work for the UN. They move from Rome to Paris and they lived on Il de San Luis, which is a beautiful place to visit in Paris. There was a very old ice cream shop there called Betéliot. And you would go for a petty glass, a little ice cream of whatever, jandouillard, hazelnuts, just magnificent. And they would also do those big trays, like kind of 80s Vianetta. Don't know how you would describe this to an American audience, what a Vianetta was, just like a log of ice cream. But you made it sound so appetising. Well, this is done in an exquisite and elegant, perissian way.
They don't use a word log. No, they have log. But yeah, it's a wonderful place to go have a nice cream and to walk around in Paris. Can we get your flavour of choice, baby? I always hazelnut for me. Are you really? Oh yeah. That's really, really controversial. At Betéliot, if I'm going for a gelato anyway, I will usually have pistaccio, pistaccio, stretchadella, and some kind of hazelnut, or one of those boozy zabayone, something that has a bit of kimasa, a little rominate. I'm still working on the Van Lewins honey sponsorship, which has been a fail campaign for the past four years. I do like this place. I'm looking at on Google, less sloganers. In our house, ice cream is a family affair. Reddit reviewers say, one of the best things at my wedding was the Tower of Sorbetes from Betéon. That in terms of that marriage lasted. And when the high last over 60 years, it's a good sign.
That is so bloody true. That is also true for Colonel Sanders and Kevin DeVroen, a simple, classy, classic, perfect Lewis and Rehate dessert. James, it's been a joy to speak with you. There's no one else that rather revel in this goblet of championsly football, with thank you, beautiful. And thank you, Raj. After the international break, when I believe a Champions League returns on October 14th, until then, as I say, in Paris, Bon courage, courage and vote for James Hornkostle, and Paul Super, very early, very often.
