Hi. Hi. Where have you been? I was waiting all day for you because you said you were coming over. At 7 and it is now 9. Where were you? You had a really stressful day. What happened? Oh my gosh. Are you serious? I am so sorry. I am really sorry. It was a really hard day and then you come in here and I am harping on you. I am sorry. I didn't know. Are you mad at me? Are you mad? Please don't be mad. I am really sorry. Okay? I didn't know. I am sorry.
It is okay. I feel like it is not really sorry. I should have checked in. I didn't know. Are you okay? Are you feeling really anxious? You are old man. Give me your hand. Okay. Everything is going to be okay. You know that, right? I am going to be here for you. It is going to pass. Are you okay? It is going to be okay. Just be your hand up a little bit. That is good. I am so worried about you. Maybe I can do something to help calm your anxiety a little bit. What do you think? Well, I am comfortable right now.
Okay, good. What if I maybe do a little bit of brushing and face to start? I might help make you feel more calm. It all helps me. Nice soft bristles. Soft bristles on your face. Face. Face. What do you think? Yeah, okay. Come here. Are you comfortable like that? Okay. Almost there. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe. Shoe.
I think it's gonna be okay, okay. Everything's gonna be okay. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. I'm gonna be here for you, okay? You're gonna get through this. You know, it's always darkest before dawn. Everything's gonna be okay. And even if it's not, I'm gonna be here for you to do it anyway. And we'll find our own light within then, okay? You can make our... Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. And... Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. I'm gonna make it look like the work.
And... Shhh. Shhh. I'm gonna put my other hair over here. And I'm gonna go... Shhh. I'm gonna come up here and I'm gonna come from... Where's the coming from? That's you. I'm gonna poke you on the side of our hair gentle. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. I'm gonna poke you. Poke. Poke. Poke. And I'm gonna tap your head. Poke. And... And... And still...
Bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush. Bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush. It's not so nice. I love the feeling, too. It feels so soft and smooth. It's... Shhh. And... Did you like that? Then help a little bit. I think. Still feeling all stressed. I'm really sorry. I don't know if you did something a little bit... Strange. Good, good. Where did I put it? I'm sorry. Cut it away. Your eyes.
And I just cut all your hair. Nice, can you hear me? I'm sorry. Am I just new? I'm sorry. I pulled it. You had this big worry. Right? And I just grabbed it. And I pulled it out. And then I cut it out. What about that? What would you even do? Nothing. I'm gonna grab this one. And I'm gonna... Go on. And... There's like a tiny little worry right there. Why is that there? Let me get it out. And I'm just gonna... There. What? It's really helping. Okay, good. Let me see. Happy to hear. And I'm gonna take this one. Don't stop in there like a door.
There. Cut that off. And... It's like sticky. Why is it sticky? Don't know. Let me see if there's any more here. Oh yeah, there's one right here. One right there. You don't want me to touch that one? Why? You're not done worrying about it yet? Okay, well that's okay. We don't have to cut all your worries out. Well, I don't think I just like trimming it a little bit. Like I'll prune the little fluffer and do like... I understand why you're worrying about that. But let me get rid of this little part of it. Because that's just... That's not even necessary. And let me just prune this part of that. Where are you? I'm gonna put this on the other side. And I'm gonna put this on the other side. And I'm gonna put this on the other side. And let me just prune this part of that. Where are you off to?
Maybe you can focus on that actual thing. And there's a little spiky guy. So can there too? That's not necessary to worry about. There. Okay, you can keep that one in there for now. But just... Are you feeling a little bit better? Because you can focus on things that you actually can work on? That's enough thinking too. We'll cut out the things that you just can't control. And then you can keep a couple things that are within your control. Now you can focus on them and don't feel so overwhelmed. Yeah, really. Oh my gosh, there's one on your left right there. That little guy was hiding in there. Let me give this. Oh, sorry, that hurt. There. Okay, so... Any more. Any more? I don't really see any more.
Oh, I'm tiny one right there. There. Do you like that? Oh, I'm so happy to hear. Maybe we can do something fun this weekend. We could go walk around the park. And brush air. You can play Pokemon Koivin on our walk. Yeah, I'm addicted to it too. That'd be so fun. Here you will catch something cool. I caught the purple while I didn't catch it. But last week I saw the purple or the Kuna. But I was dumb and I just used my ultra ball. And then I flew away. I didn't even know how rare it was. So maybe we can go hunting again together when that'd be fun. That is so fun. You're so cute. I really like this shirt. Yeah, it looks good on you.
Really suits you. You wanna go sit your hair? In your eyes. Yeah, it looks really good on you. I really like it. What are you feeling? I have something else I can't hear you do. I like it. Or you may not. But there's only one left here to find out, isn't there? Okay. So I have this little box. That's the piece. I just need to stick them on here and I'll peel them off. I have a banana disk right here. I don't have anything. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. You know what? Let's see that it fits in here. It's in here. The box here. It's gonna get a little closer. Why don't you let me put that bit me a little bit? I'm gonna stick these all over here. Are you ready? Okay. Are you comfortable like that? Okay. This gives me a little bit of a good angle. So we have the extra stamps. Now look up. I'm gonna stick them right here. Lip. And stick. Lip.
Stick them. And then I'll take them off after a dollar. I guess just to help with your anxiety because it's gonna distract you a little bit. And call me down. Okay. So the first time I have here is the flowers. Flowers, flowers, flowers. And then you look up. And then you stick them on your eye. There. You look cute with those. Okay. The next one you have is about it. Okay. Stick it right there. I'm gonna try to snap. Y'all are just now. I want you to have a butterfly. I just get it right here.
I just released one. Press. Press, press, press, press. It's thick. I don't think I'm looking in enough. Let's try this one. I have all of this one. It looks like a tortoise. I want you to have a tortoise. I have a little bit of a lot of this one. Let's try now. Let's see if this one right. Press, press, press, press, press. Okay. Now it's thin. Okay. And this one is... This is so pretty. Let's go this one. Then, the other pinkies. Pinkies. You wanna look?
And I used to get... Right here. Press, press, press, press, press, press. Okay. There. This one is really cool. I think you'll like it. It's not as a tiger. Tiger, tiger, tiger. Okay. You wanna stick it? Give your hand. Just get right on your hand. Press, press, press, press, press, press. There, little tiger stand there. This one's really cool too. It kind of matches my outfit. It kind of matches, isn't it? It's just my outfit. It's a little pinky-peek-off. Look. Okay.
And I'm gonna stick this one. Give me your hand. Okay. Press, press, press, press. There. Okay. And this here. Look at how many there. I think if I did them all, I want you to be able to find you in a big snack of stamps. This one's really cute. It's an alpaca. Apaka, apaka, apaka, apaka, apaka. It's just a thumb. Are you saying alpaca? Look. Stick this one. Hi. Press, press, press, press. There. I'll do a couple more. Let's see. Oh. That's really cool. This is she stand. This is she stand.
And I like it. Stick this one. Hi. Here. Press. Oh. That's the still. It's okay. It wasn't my fault. I think I didn't get enough. Okay. I'll do one more. This one's really cool. Stick this one. Here. Press, press, press, press. Stay, please stay. You look really cute right now. I'm so gonna take a photo of you for the movie. Is that okay? I do. Why? You're very stuck.
I think I probably should look really cute. Okay. Let me peel them off here. It's stuck. It's actually stuck. I'm not gonna get them off. More water. Okay. Let's try this. Oh yeah. It's kind of enough. It's listening. I'm gonna peel it. There. Okay. One off. Let's carry a little bit. At least it's distracting here. Let's just not think of it today. Let's just think about getting these stamps off. The hand. Okay. Okay. Okay.
Down on the wall. Okay. Down on the wall. Okay. Down on the wall. Down on the wall. I'm gonna be cute if I have to. I think you should get this off. Press. Okay. Let's run out. Turn it around. Turn it around. Turn it around. I'm gonna need the ones on your hand. Okay. One. This one did not come off. Let's do the other hand here. Okay. One. There. Oh, this is like a little corn and piece stuck. Okay. I broke that one.
And there's one more on the top of your head. There. Oh, I can see. I told you it in a toy. I told you. I ain't not out of the box. Oh, wow. I just wanted to get this off. I can't even look for a stick. Bop, bop, bop. How are you feeling? I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good. How are you feeling now? Dother? Really? You don't even think you know about it. This is so happy. You know, everything's gonna be okay. Do you know that? I promise. Everything's gonna be okay. I'm gonna be by your side. And you have yourself. That's what I need too.
You're my best friend. You're yourself a hog. Did I give you a hug? Do you want a hog? A hog's. You're not sure? Well, it's too bad. I'm coming in. Here, come here. Everything's gonna be okay. Everything's gonna be okay. I promise. They're gonna be fine. I promise. Things are gonna turn around. Okay. Things are gonna be okay. Okay. Just don't worry. Try not to stress. Do yourself a little bit of time in a day to stress. 30 minutes to worry about what you're worrying about. Okay? Then after that, you should make yourself to stop. Before she's helped, she'll be like, okay?
I had my 30 minutes of worrying about this thing. I've thought it through. Under times. And now, I'm not gonna think about it. And then later through the day or night, if you want to give yourself another 10 minutes, 20 minutes, whatever to worry about it again, then you can do that. Sometimes I can help a little bit just to get to the day. I know it doesn't take away what's going on, but I didn't help you have your brain some relief, you know? It's a relief and some distraction. I was worried about you. I can't tell you all about any time, right? So, and then I keep doing it. Do you know you can tell me all about any time, right? Okay. Just don't wanna go out and hide or something else. You can't poop. You wanna hide? You can't hide. I really thought I would be slow down. Well, something else I can do to the whole.
Maybe I can reach you in a little bit, or you wanna see? Yeah, I would love to do that. Really nice. Let me get you clothes here. Let me get my pillow free. Here, lay down here. They're comfortable. Here, I'm gonna get comfortable with the book right, too, okay? That's like it. Okay. Are you comfortable? You look really comfortable right now. It's okay. Just relax. Okay, I just listen to you. Close your eyes and just enjoy it, okay? When Michelle is in her infancy, the computerized axle, tomograph, or cat scan, had just become available. The sophisticated X-ray takes numerous pictures of the head, a cross-section, and feeds the images into a computer.
Bone is white, brain tissue is gray, and body cavity's pitch black. Michelle had a cat scan when she was six months old, but early scans had such poor resolution that hers should only be a mush of gray, from which the doctors could draw no conclusion. Carol was devastated by the prospect that her child would never see properly. Then one day, while he was walking around the dining room, while Carol was feeding Michelle breakfast, and Carol noticed that she was tracking her with her eyes. The cereal hit the ceiling. I was so elated, she said, because I meant my shell wasn't totally blind. She had some dish. A few weeks later, when Carol was sitting on the porch with Michelle, a motorcycle came up the street. The Michelle followed it with her eyes. Then one day, Michelle was about a year old,
her clenched right arm, which in always held close to her heart. It's opened out. When she was about two, the school who barely talked, had an interest in language. I would come home, and she would say, A.V.C.'s, sitting on a slab, she would put her fingers on her lips to fill the vibrations as he spoke. The doctors told Carol Michelle did not have a learning disability and seemed to have normal intelligence. But at two, she still couldn't crawl. So Wally, who knew that she loved music, would play her favorite record, and when the song was over, Michelle would cry. Mhmm, mhmm, wanted again. Then Wally would insist, she called the record player before he played again. And Michelle's overall learning pattern was becoming clear, a significant delay in development,
a message from the clinicians to her parents to get used to it. And then somehow, Michelle would pull herself out of it. And then she would say, I'm hopeful. In 1977, Carol was pregnant for the third time with Michelle's brother, Jeff. Mother doctors persuaded Carol to arrange another cat scan for Michelle. She said, Carol owed it to her unborn child to try to determine what happened to Michelle in the womb in order to prevent it from happening again. But now, the results of the cat scan and no brave. She was in shock. She told me, if they show me those pictures when we had the cat's condensed six months, I don't think I could have handled it. But three and a half, Michelle had already showed that her brain could adjust to change. So Carol felt there might be some more. Michelle knows that research is at the National Intitiation of Health
under the direction of Dr. Jordan Graffman was studying her. She was studying her because she read an article in the press of a neuroplacicity in which Dr. Graffman contracted many of the things that she had told the both brain problems. Graffman believed that with the help the brain could often develop and change their life, even after injuries. Dr. said, told Carol that Michelle would develop mentally only until she was about 12. But now she's 25. If Dr. Graffman is right, Michelle does many years, while other treatments might have been tried, she's not guilty in Carol, but also hope. Is she so cute? One of the things Caroline and Dr. Graffman worked on together was helping Michelle better understand her condition and better control her feelings. Michelle is disarmingly honest with her emotions for many years. She sent every since I was little. Whenever I did not get my way, I threw a bit. Last year, I got tired of people
in a way. Otherwise, my sister would take over. Which adds, ever since last year, I tried to tell my parents that my sister can handle changes. But when she can repeat Dr. Eiffin's explanation to let her right-hand and spare now handles such love brain activities as speaking, meaning, and math. Sometimes she speaks of the sister's own has a substance. So we're kind of alien being with a personal, personality and will, rather than emptiness in her skull. Whereas a left hemisphere should have been. This paradox is based two tendencies in her thought. She had a superior memory for concrete details, but difficulty with abstract thought. Being concrete has some advantages. Michelle is a great speller, and can remember the range of the letters on the page. Because I have many concrete thinkers she can record events in memory, keep them fresh and vivid as the moment when she first perceived them. Which can find it difficult to understand the story illustrated in underline moral. The aim or main point that is unexplicitably spelt up.
Because that involves abstractation. Over and over and countered Michelle's interpreting symbols correctly. Concretely, I'm glad I was talking with how shocked she was to see the cat's skin of the left hemisphere. I heard a noise. We're shocked. I've been listening. Started sucking, blowing to the bottle. She had been drinking from. What are you doing? I'm getting my feelings out in the bottle. Sooner though she felt like her feelings could be almost breathed out into the bottle. I have some Michelle over there. Mother's describing the cat's skin how sub-sending. No, no, no, no, no, no, on the sea. It's important that I said. And I'm just keeping my right side in control. An example of Michelle's belief that when she gets upset, her sister's taking over. All the time she uses nonsense words. She has so much communication as to discharge feelings. She mentioned in passing that she loves to hang crosswords
and words searches, even while watching TV. Is it because you want to improve your vocabulary? I asked. She answered, actually, acting bees. Acting bees. I do that when I'm born. I'm watching sitcoms on television. So it's not to let my mind get bored. She's saying acting bees nonsense. One, one, one, one. I'm asked to hear things that frustrate me. She's helping to use words not so much for their abstract meaning as for their physical quality. They're similar running sound. A sign of her concreteness. Once, when she's going into the car, she wrote this great singing two birds in your poopers. She often sings her explanations aloud in restaurants and people look at her. She broke her two front teeth and broke the bridge that replaced them several times. Somehow, singing the nonsense helped her bring the break-up biting habit. I asked her if singing nonsense
words suit her. I know your people is she saying when I sing, my right side is controlling my cyst. Does it suit you? I asked. She said, I think so. Oh, good. Time. Something interesting. I love reading some of these research papers and stories. I think Emron maybe has something that they have or do that suits some of you. It's a little bit strange or unique. I hope you could find something like that for you. You should stay here tonight. I don't think you should drive home. You should stay. Look when I tie my hand. Look at all cozy up. Do you want to stay over there? I'm going to be okay. We can hang out more tomorrow and then this weekend we'll do the fun and hike that lake. Just know what everything is going to be okay. We're going to get through this. I'm with you. It's going to be okay.
Okay. It's good since sleeping out. Sweetest. Sweetest dreams. Okay. Good night. Good night.
