Avonmore Primary School Redevelopment Approved

On April 1st, the redevelopment of Avinmore Primary School in West London just got the final green life from the government.

That 1950s building on Avinmore Road is set for demolition this summer, making way for brand-new state-of-the-art primary school with A,

nursery, playground, and special spaces for kids with special educational needs.

Plus, 91 flats on site, about half affordable.

This project kicked off back in 2019 as the first in HammerSmith and Fullham Council's Community Schools program.

They used housing revenue to upgrade old schools like this one.

The local council approved it last November, but a needed department for education sign-off, too, since flats are going up on school land.

That came through last December after a freedom of information request revealed the decision letter.

Not everyone was on board, though.

The Planning Committee saw 76 objections, with residents complaining about poor consultation and turning public school land into private.

Holmes, one group said the council skipped proper resident panels and critics called it 50% private gain.

Still, it passed with just one no vote from a conservative counselor.

Staff and pupils already moved to the Old Queen's Mill School on Munstreet to clear the way.

Now the council updated their web page with a clear timeline.

Contractor takes over this April, demolition hits in July or August, new school ready by.

Summer, 2028, and flats wrapped up that winter.

Council folks are pumped about delivering top-notch learning spots that pupils and teachers deserve, while boosting affordable housing in the burrow.

This could set the pace for more school upgrades around town.
