This is the CHGO Bears Podcast and we are live from the Xfinity Loft in beautiful downtown Chicago alongside my incredibly passionate, thin, spelt, smart, brilliant Gregory P. Allen Bragg's, a man that's supposed to genuinely have no idea who you're talking about there. I was talking about you, my friend. I was like, who is this? I mean, everybody who sees you, sees how in shape you are. They're common in kind. It's every single day, someone's compilating your new look. I add them, Hogue is at a Hogue House today, supposed to be driving the show, but we had a little snafu here. Hogue, can we hear you? Yeah, I hope so. I was talking that entire time and then all of a sudden I heard an echo and I thought it was myself, but then it was actually just carmed. So I was very confused.
You know, it was a great job. The enthusiasm was there. I'm just we're getting closer and closer to game day, guys. It's unbelievable. I again, I just the idea that week one is on Sunday. I don't fully believe the game I watched last night was not the start of the NFL season. You can't convince me otherwise that was the preseason. I'm not fully prepared for this game on Sunday at all. I'm excited because I know you guys keep telling me it's here on Sunday, but I just I'm not prepared for this. I mean, I operate like every day as game day. You know, a C H G O bear show in June is game day to me. So this is this is even though it's different. It's no different. And last night, by the way, it was a great night for the bears. It's specifically Caleb Williams, because Drake may effectively took himself out of the MVP conversation. Congratulations to Drake, mate. Okay. Yeah, but let's be honest with it. If this thing comes down to who has home field advantage in the NFC championship game, you wanted the Patriots to win
that game. Correct. So you can worry about MVP's and all that nonsense. I'm worried about the bears having a home game in the NFC championship game. And that I don't think what bears way last night. That's an excellent point. That's an excellent point. But for some reason, I'm not worried about the C Hawks. I mean, you know, this is a whole new but this is this see how that was a one year fluke situation. And I know we're going to get into it, but I just found it amazing driving in today, talking with a friend that there's a fan base that's trying to figure out if their quarterbacks going to be healthy the rest of the year. And you got C Hawks fans genuinely like worried about the rest of their season and talking about next year, seeing that conversation last night. And the bear season hasn't even started yet. It's just two different worlds. And not only that, and you know, this is, I think this is actually a good lesson. Last night was probably a good lesson of how every fan base, every podcast, every show everybody gets a little bit out on their skis in the off season. We don't really have a choice, right? Like all we see are
these practices and then competing against themselves. And then all the sudden, bam, your five plays in and Sam Garnold is significantly hurt. And Drake May throws three interceptions out of nowhere when he only had eight all of last season. And he's just getting roasted across New England sports radio today as like a complete bust after just one quarter. So it's just a reminder of how quickly this league changes, how all these storylines can change very, very fast. And how much unknown there really is, which by the way is a teaser in the later in the show, I discussed with Cole Komett today over at House All. So let's dive in guys. We got a lot to talk about. A lot of news coming out of House today. I met my studio because I just came over from Lake Forest. And this is kind of a, you got a glimpse at how Wednesdays are going to look with our show the other day. This is how Thursdays are going to look a little bit later in the day at five o'clock. Because we want to make sure we are where the bears are and we're giving you everything we possibly can
from Hallis Hall and the locker room. So let's get into what we learned today in some of the news and notes, especially when it comes to injuries. This is checking it out sponsored by Old National Bank every play matters whether it's on the field or in your financial life. The best teams win by delivering excellence at every level. Old National Bank where relationships and results matter. Remember FDIC and we're checking out. Really the injury report, but just the news that came out of Hallis today. And of course, the top one and it is our headline today, Roma Dunes, a back at practice. Now, you know, they had an estimated injury report yesterday on a day where they weren't actually practicing. So we had a little bit of a glimpse of this, but to see him out there in person today, boys. And when we posted this video to our CSU bears account, if you want to take a look at it, um, look pretty good to me. Footwork look pretty good to me. And I know he was still listed as limited, which means he didn't take all the reps that he normally would in the rest
to practice, but I have a feeling that might change by tomorrow. And even if it doesn't change, this whole week started with the head coach, Ben Johnson saying that he was hopeful Rome would play on Sunday. So at this point on Thursday, I am very, very hopeful that Roma Dunes is not only going to be out there, boys, but be pretty, pretty healthy and close and close to normal. Well, when the original report came out that it was the same injury, that was terrifying. And then you felt a whole lot better when it wasn't the same injury. And then you felt a lot better when you saw him in the locker room or we saw him in the locker room a couple of yesterday, I guess two days ago, whatever it was. And he's moving around and you could just see that it was trending that way. More importantly, Ben Johnson saying that it's a day to day injury. So they have him back on the field, just feels like he's going to be out there. And look, it's a huge year for Rome. And the bears are very much competing for who is going to be the number one wide receiver. That conversation, I asked Press Taylor about that today, because who's the primary guy in this route? Well, you
earn that in practice. Well, Rome's not going to be able to earn that unless he's on the field at practice. So these guys are competing against each other to have the confidence from Ben and press and Caleb to at least be the primary option coming out on a play and have the ball thrown to him. They all want to get catches. They all want yards. They all want touchdowns. Yeah. And now the interesting thing is, I mean, theoretically, everybody hopes this won't matter. But suddenly the most serious injury, the guy who's not practicing is your guy ties in agent car. So this didn't sound like something that was too concerning these back spasms he's been dealing with. But I don't know if you have any other information because we're starting to get later in the week and do we are we living in a world where case kingdoms actually going to be the back of quarterback on something? Well, of course, I have all the information. But there's only so much that I can, you know, let out everybody. Just know that it's a tricky spot for you. It is. So just
know that there's there's no doubt that Tyson, you know, wants to be available on Sunday, wants to be going with the team. But he, you know, he is dealing with a little bit of a back issue that, of course, will be out the window ASAP. But I do, I do, I do not know if the Bears will be cautious and, you know, elevate case for this week and just, you know, protect Tyson from self, basically. That would that's so we'll find out the fact that he hasn't practiced the last two days and has been listed out. I actually was surprised by that. I thought he had been through it. But now I do think it's kind of this seems to me that it's trending that he might not be made available this week. But this is not a long term thing. Well, and as Eric Bochen, I think pointed out earlier in the chat that, you know, last night's game was a case in point of the importance of a guy like Tyson agent. Well, if, and by the way, whenever any quarterback gets hurt, it's, yeah, it's it's Beijing watch. Yeah, immediately when any quarterback gets hurt, Seattle was getting flooded
with Bears fans comments. Right. And we had a phenomenal timeless end of Utopia and tailgate shout out to Casamigos and all our friends. Well, let's raise our hands. Carminei immediately got an argument about this. The second Arnold got hurt. Right. So it's like, it's a natural instinct reaction. I'm sitting there trying to have a nice night. Donald gets hurt. Now I'm right into what like, oh, the training, the training for Emmy. I'm getting people are I'm getting five tax hoses argue with me. Let's all just settle down. Well, I mean, my argument was you, my argument was you don't trade them to Seattle. You can't trade them to Seattle. He's too good to trade to a team. You got to play in the playoffs. Good point. That's a good point. But if you're in Tyson's camp, you know, and there's some here on the set that are in Tyson's camp, we're, you know, Seattle, you know, once paid Matt Flynn a lot of money. So, you know, stranger, let's get Tyson the bag. Well, I'm kidding. Of course, I'm kidding. Tyson's already Tyson's doing fine financially. Tyson. Tyson's staying right here and, and let's just all,
let's just calm down. But that, I guess, Donald's going to be fine. So this, that's, that's what that's trying to do. But to your point, Hogue, it is, it is important. You know, I have is, how we got through all of training camp and all the injuries, the litany of injuries that this team went through. And it is the biggest injury on the offensive side of the ball right now is Tyson Beijing. But there's, I guess, some silver lining to that being the case. Yeah. And here's the, and we'll go through some of the guys that now are healthier and that includes the running back room. So I had a chance to, it's really nice having the locker room access again, guys, which is why we want to take you, we're going to, you know, try to take you inside the locker room as much as possible on these Wednesdays and Thursdays without things we hear, you know, or actual videos that will play for you. Of course, coming up here. But, you know, I had a chance to just stop by downjoy swiss locker and ask them like, so hey, dude, that was just a cramp last week. And he was like, he was like, yeah, man, you know, just, those, those were like the hottest
practices of camp last week. And that was the last day. And it was the last long period. I think it, he said it kind of started a little bit before then. And then they just, he had that first run of that long drive drill. And it, you know, you know, a way of cramp just hits you. There's nothing you could do about it. And I said to him, I go, well, I got to be honest, like the reason it scared me so much is because usually when a guy cramps up, he goes straight down, right? And he's like, someone needs to come over and stretch him out. That's usually what you see. And in this case, he like, Ozzy Trepillo, his way off the field to the sideline. And he's like, well, yeah, you know, we're not supposed to sub out in that drill. It's supposed to just keep going. So he did, he basically like didn't, he just didn't want to destroy the rest of the drill. He wanted to get off the field as quick as possible. Obviously, someone still had to sub in for him. But he didn't want, you know, he didn't want there to be like a big delay of the trainers looking at him down there on the field when it's supposed to be this conditioning drill. So that was kind of cool. Just say, you know, here is explanation for that. Even though he kind of scared the crap out of those of us, I think they were watching him sort of hobble off the field so intently, like
something was really, really wrong. There's your explanation. It was just a cramp. And he was just trying to keep things moving. Although I think his teammates might have enjoyed the break. I got to be honest. Yeah. When that happened, I'm like, I don't know where he ranks up. Players, the Bears can't lose, but you can't lose Deandre Swift, especially with the, you know, the, and I know Mononga is training the right way to where we're going to play that. But this dude's had a phenomenal camp. Let's not, the run game is going to matter all season long. But I think it's just, especially when you early go in here, just getting the, the old ship out of the yard. If you will, let's run the football well on Sunday. It's just so impressive to hear that, that, that explanation and, and to paint that picture of your one of your most veteran players doing that in a practice simulation. That's how much that wrap and that moment and that series meant to your starting running back, like in, in the heat of August, like that's what this, that's how bought in this team is. And
that's really cool. I also had a friend point out that it isn't the worst thing in the world. I know if you're looking at weather forecast for Sunday and how hot it potentially could be in Carolina, this seems like the Bears have been well prepped for that as well. Yeah, Grady Jarrett, who of course is, you know, played most of his football down there in the south and as well, averse in this division too and playing in some of these conditions. Even, you know, going back to high school and college, he, he actually pointed out how last weeks probably did help him and that'll come up in my conversation with Colcomat here in a little bit as well. So I am very relieved to see DeAndre Swift that that, that was just a cramp and he should be back to the same form we saw him in, you know, assuming he is well hydrated and doesn't have any cramping issues on Sunday. By the way, right now it is looking like it will be a hot one feels like temperature in the mid 90s. If the sun comes out right now, that's the only question like it's supposed to be cloudy the last time I check perhaps the sun coming out that'll make a big difference but hydrating and cramps could be something that come up on Sunday. Meanwhile, great news on Swift
and it's been good news on Kyle Menungai too, who hasn't been on the injury report despite the time he missed in training camp with that knee issue. He is seemingly good to go at this point and so that gives the Bears this weapon of having DeAndre Swift and Kyle Menungai, who are certainly a little bit different in style running backs. Press Taylor was asked today the Bears Offensive Coordinator the value of having two different style running backs of what that can do to a defense. Well, I think you kind of maybe you set the defense up a little bit, you know, we're running the same schemes with it but maybe one guy gets to the spot a little bit quicker, one guy's looking to cut up a little bit more, one guy's going to make you miss at the second level, one guy's going to run you over. I mean, there's there's certain things where now a linebacker has to be aware of which backs in the game. They're running, we tend to not change schemes based on backs. You know you've had some that's the thunder lightning this guy runs inside this guy runs outside. Every back we put in the game we're going to run the same schemes with. So I think you as a linebacker, I don't know that that's I don't know how aware you are of who's in the game but now all the sudden
this guy comes out of the out of the first level and it's a different presentation this guy can run away from me. This guy's going to lower shoulder on me and I think that just kind of wears on back or straight off the course of the game. Guys, I love that explanation because it you know, the thunder lightning thing always sounds good but it always has bothered me over the years sometimes when you when you see situations like he just described where it's like well, okay, yeah, you know the big bruising running back so running power right down the middle and then the shiftier guy is going to run outside. They know then who's in the game. What your tendencies are. The bears don't really do that. Both of these guys they can they can call the same plays and yet the impact that they might have the timing of it might be enough just to throw off the defense a little bit. Well, I think it's just a great point by press too. Like they're both 5-8. Like they could sleep at the same bed. They could have the same bed sheets. Like everything would be this these guys are you know this is not two different dudes. They're they're very similar. So and they're also very good. They're running their running styles I think at the same time too.
Sure a little bit but like you know it's not like Swift won't truck somebody every now and then I sure he he'll he'll and it's not like Kyle won't shake somebody every now and they're not obviously they're not identical but they're they're I think they are more similar than they are different. Yeah, I think the biggest thing that I went through watching this team last year when you talk when press Taylor talks about like wanting to throw these guys off I get it from a multiplicity standpoint and keeping the defenses on their toes but I just I always will love that there'll be times where they need to call plays that the defense knows what they're running and they just hey let's see if you can stop it you know and I think there's that element too that I think is important to never lose in football you're always wanting to catch teams off guard but I also like when hey we're gonna do this and you can't stop us like that that that part of it I think is important All right guys I want to hit a couple other nuggets here now there was one slightly concerning and I guess we'll find out in the next 24 hours maybe how concerning it actually is but
Xavier Woods who projected to start next Dylan Thiniman popped up on the injury report today with a growing injury and he was limited now this will come up throughout the season it's come up in the past sometimes when a guy pops up in the middle of the week so he wasn't on the original injury report yesterday then all of a sudden he was today that can sometimes mean he suffered that injury in practice now other times it could be he came in the the morning after practice and just felt a little sore and they kept it you know a little bit lighter they held him out a little bit now what I will say is I did see Xavier Woods in the locker room that's always a good sign when it's an injury that happens in practice which could sometimes be the more serious variety you usually don't see him in the locker room right after practice right they're getting help they're getting tested they're getting x-rays they're getting treatment whatever it is so the fact that Xavier Woods was sitting in his locker and I think he actually did an interview with Phil Thompson too you know that I thought that that was probably a good sign but of course we'll find out more when the game status report comes out tomorrow the other one and speaking of safety
I wanted to bring up but there was a Kobe Bryant citing in the locker room today guys have really seen him since the injury since he went off in the first padded practice and you know he does have that left leg in a brace still you remember he had he ended up having surgery on that knee and he did have crutches that were at least you know next to him that he's clearly still using so you know we're still an estimated three months away from the best case scenario of him coming back in the original four to six month timeline so that's not necessarily a surprise I thought I was encouraging you to see him around the team but yeah he's still got the brace in the in the crutches right now well during Dennis Allen's presser today I was asking him about you know what considering what happened with Kobe like who how who are you going to put next to Dylan what was your priority so all veteran guy and of course Xavier would fall under that same thing with Cam Lewis too but
you seeing Kobe I obviously was not there for that portion today it's almost painful though man like like that that dude was supposed to be the guy and well and there he is and he's limping around the locker room it's sort of I would think that makes it even more real like yep we're not going to see you for a long time it's just too bad the way that that whole thing turned out for the bearers yeah yeah that's a good way to describe it you were there that day Gregory I know well one more guy that we will get to here we got to take a quick time out we come back I there was a positive of another positive has there been a negative update on this guy I don't think there has been every single time it's just good news when it comes to Aussie Chirpillo and we will share that when we come back hit that like button don't go anywhere we got a lot more to share with you from Hallis Hall today on the Thursdays we get closer and closer to game day on Sunday this is CHG Obers football is back in with draft kings at casino queen sportsbook September is coming

offensive line coach he was asked about Aussie Chimpilow status up to this point you know he's been back practicing for a few weeks now but it's just been limited to individuals and then some post practice work we're all wondering when are the team drills going to come because once the team drills start I think then it becomes more and more real that you could see Aussie Chimpilow return to a game here was Dan Rochard's update on Aussie Chimpilow I think we're getting much closer to and it's an ongoing process but we're going to start to move them into some team work here shortly when and if that time's decided I think we're getting closer we've done post work within one on our bodies it's certainly different than actually going out there and putting it all together but been really encouraged with what he's done so far we're even we're even surprised as everyone told me I think it's a real credit to A and then when you really look at what the strength staff did what the medical staff did with him it's it's unbelievable because when it was diagnosed
we were talking potentially you know maybe missing the season maybe late addition see where we're at I asked straight personally I said have you seen these things recover and he said that not many so it's a heck of a credit to what they've done especially a player his size no doubt no doubt yeah there's going to come a point where it's a leap of faith throwing him back into the mix what do you hope to see at what point where I think once he starts practicing you're going to see the same player we like we've talked about we'd rather be a day too late than a day too early with him on the field yeah and our medical people do a heck of a job and they're monitoring what he's doing how he's doing it and then and then giving us guidance and how to go about this so once those things start to come together and we see it daily we want to see the player that we saw at the end of the season when he's close to that playing with confidence playing with physicality shutting down power change
the direction all the things that he has to do when that when that is clear that he's doing it at a high level then he'll be ready so guys now the regular seasons underway we just so everybody understands we're only able to watch like the first 10 minutes of practice tops and it's basically a viewing period and then we got to go inside it's not like training camp where we can we and where we can watch everything and I bring that up because we're really going to have to rely on the injury report or you know updates from Dan or Ben on when that time comes when Ozzy is able to actually get in team drills one of the the tells will be though if there is an injury report that finally says he practiced in full because right now he's listed as limited then you'll then we'll have a good idea of oh okay so he's not limited in practice anymore he's probably closer to a return so again he didn't get put on IR guys because they want him practicing right now as much as he can and they're going to continue to ramp that up but I also think it's because as long as he's on a 53 man roster there's a
chance that he could come back and play sooner rather than later although you did hear from Dan I think that is important context there that they are you know they'd rather be a little late than a little early you don't want to rush us it sounds to me like it almost feels like he's ready to go and it's freaking them out so much that they're like we're going to be overly cautious because this is in normal that's what it feels like I did like he said there that they'd rather be one day late than one day early that is protecting the player from himself it's a phenomenal phenomenal recovery for Aussie Trippillo home well it sound bite was playing with Dan Rochar I did take a close look at Greg Bragg's and I think I did see the hair on his arm stand up and perhaps something else moved on him as well as this is this is your guy so this is exciting for you I know congratulations Aussie Trippillo is going to play some football this year right that's right it is coming and I and I told you all that he was going to be the greatest left tackle of all time before I
even knew he'd even play left tackle I think you said right tackle first I just said a lot of things and one of them ended up half right yeah so we can just roll with that so just just keep that laptop on your lap there buddy I didn't see I couldn't see that but I did see some you know there's those those slow it just is though like when Rochard says like we thought he was going to be out for a year yeah because that's what normal people would do you know like this is just an insane circumstance and it's I wouldn't be surprised when you say like when are we going to see him you know in full I I think it won't be long before you were seeing him get integrated into coming in as that rotational extra offensive lineman like I think that'll be the first step I think he's going to go through the exact same process he did last year to transition his way onto the field and first it'll start with jumbo packages and then by week four week five when
we get to Green Bay that's when he will transition back to left tackle and let's also be fair to Braxton Jones like I think Braxton Jones if if he's playing well he'll have the opportunity to stay out there and that's still on the table too it's not like if he's playing well that they're just if anything that you just allow the Bears to be even more cautious and work Aussie back even slower of course then if he's not playing well then you know that opens the door to this thing accelerating even faster but the reality is Braxton's the start of this week Aussie Shapillo won't play how about we talk about the other question mark on the line coming into this season that they also seem very optimistic about so I want to play a couple things here on Garrett Bradbury because this guy is getting a lot of praise in fact the Andre Swift shared with us today in the locker room that Ben Johnson at the end of practice today gave Garrett Bradbury a shout out for just how he's playing what you know what he's meant so far coming in here and filling in at a
very important position at center but here's what Dan Roachar before practice had to say about Garrett Bradbury his Bradbury had been everything that you guys hoped and kind of expected with his acquisition just in terms yeah he's been unbelievable he's been able to very season veteran we know what he is as a football player the mental aspects the communication have been lights out good and so really been impressed with that as a player in fact that separates him from Logan guys look Dan one of the reasons why I love talking to Dan Roachar every week is because he tells you exactly how it is and when a guy struggling he tells you that too so when he praises somebody like that you take it for for what it is it you know he's not sugarcoding anything unnecessary unnecessarily they are very happy with Garrett Bradbury by now and by the way don't take that last
part totally out of context it's not like they're unhappy with the rookie either it's just what he's being asked with you the difference between those two right now is everything he just said there and some of that experience and communication and he wasn't the only one to praise Bradbury guys because this is what press Taylor had to say and again now I'm just starting to realize I might be stealing something that Adam Johnson's writing for us because John's also asked this question to press Taylor today. What we want here how do you characterize maybe the team's comfort level your comfort level that is Caleb's with Garrett Bradbury especially after that surprising pivot you know after you've owned the fact. Sure yeah I think Garrett has earned a lot of trust coming in here and the way he's commanded the huddle the way he's commanded line of scrimmage our communication aspect the way he does things he's very loud very vocal very confident but also very intelligent he does a really good job of how we want to do it there's a lot of conversation that goes on I mean we spend
walk through we pause walk through we huddle up and it's it's Dan Caleb bin all those gut Garrett all in there having a conversation about how we're going to ID certain things because it changes if they do this versus that and so he's earned a lot of trust and a lot of respect from a lot of the guys the coaches and players as well with what he's done the last six seven months that we've had him. So guys I want to ask you this like let's just scale a one to 10 going into this first game how much do you trust Garrett Bradbury right now and what has been I think at the same time both an underrated storyline this offseason but also a very very important one at one point back in February when Drew Domino retired it was like the only thing we were talking about so what is your level of confidence right now and Garrett Bradbury going into the season. I agree that it was one of the more underutilized storylines of training camp and my trust leveling Garrett Bradbury has got to be at a nine or a 10 why because Cole Comet told us three weeks ago that
Garrett Bradbury and the transition at center has been seamless was the word that Cole Comet used and this is Cole Comet the guy when Ben Johnson was hired I was like hey Cole this is awesome Ben Johnson he was like yeah we got to get it done still like he didn't even like he refused to be excited about it it was Ben Johnson coming to the Bears then he has the greatest catch in his life but hey Cole that was awesome we didn't win it's not good enough like he's never going to sugar coat or over hype anything and this guy came in and said Garrett Bradbury has been seamless so when Cole Comet said that that's all I needed to know so I fully trust Garrett Bradbury. I'm in the trust zone too I really like what Dan Rochart said there because if you're Logan Jones and you're trying to figure out how do I get on the field well Dan just told you his communication his leadership his knowledge of the offense is better than yours right there so that's something for the rookie to focus and work on as he you know tries to get his opportunity but look there's been
uh it's been out of a praise for good old Garrett Bradbury and the Bears you know they you know they don't go out of their way to say negative things they're not trying to do that but this does feel like they're really happy with the guy and I obviously trust the coaching staff I mean is he gonna be flawless out there no is he going to get beat at times sure I mean Drew Dolman wasn't a perfect center but you could trust him because he he got everything in order he he he's helping the situation more than he's hurting it so I think from that standpoint I trust him do I expect him to pitch a perfect game every day no I mean he had zero sacks given up last year and zero penalties you know taken throughout the year with the Patriots it went all the way to Super Bowl so do I expect that out of them no not necessarily but I also know the kind of baseline understanding of what he's going to bring to the table every week yeah and I'll just tell you this I mean Monday morning that's the the center table be one of the first things I'm looking at
just to see how it because it's this is great everybody saying the the right things and I think he's clearly made the impact now I want to see it you know in the game on Sunday and how it actually translates to the football field hardy and hope Monday morning center tape let's go let's go you guys want to come coffee and some online tape Monday morning well I'm happy to do that but it will be on white deer run well and we have to do it like on an iPad while I get my morning 18 in Gary will be there so reverently maybe even peanut head all right we'll we'll do it out of the patio then I guess go to stop yeah hey I had a chance to talk to Cole you just mentioned Cole come at I was like we can't get into the season here without having them on CHG oh at least once so this isn't a terribly long conversation but you know he's he got done with his lift with just a few minutes left with the locker room availability today so I I said hey get your butt out here let's let's do
a little conversation ahead of the this the season here bears and Panthers so here's my conversation with the tight end our guy at C H show Cole come up all right we couldn't go in a week one without checking in with our guy Cole come at year seven man crazy I can't believe it's your seven exciting though exciting nonetheless but can't believe it's your seven it's crazy does it feel any I'm sure it feels a little different year seven but how does it feel different yeah it's I feel like every year's different you know this year in particular going into year two of a of a system which is always a good feeling obviously coming off of a winning season has its own vibes going into it which has been a lot of fun throughout the off season but yeah I mean we're excited about the group that we have I thought we put in a really good physical training camp and I know the guys are itching out there ready to play it was gonna say the continuity of this not just you know having the same coach but the same quarterback yeah a defined role a system you guys believe in it there's got to be a little bit of a different confidence level for for this team going into the season yeah I think for the guys that are returning and just offers maybe a little bit more
clarity as to where you stand all and everything and that's a good thing going in the off season you kind of know what you're training for and know what to expect and then you know in terms of the new guys coming I think everybody understands what's expected of each and every guy and you know looking forward to how we want to look obviously like from our perspective and fans perspective there's always a lot of curiosity about you know what's gonna happen every season from the player perspective like how much how much unknown is there even for you guys going into the first game whether that's whether that's the opponent or even what you guys are going to be able to put up no there's a there's a ton of unknown I think I can look at our team and say that I think we're really talented we got obviously a lot of guys coming back from last year and we were doing some good things last year but that being said the the teams aren't constant that we're playing you know this Carolina team that we're going up against they're they're new the teams that we're going to be facing down the stretch they're going to be brand new and there's going to be different challenges along the way whether you know we have injuries or are the other their opponent has injuries there's just a lot of
things that you can't account for and you don't really know until until you get to that week so I'll be interested to kind of find out you know who we are over these first few weeks of the season kind of establishing you know our identity to the NFL and then and then really just take it from there so I'm sure it didn't feel great in the moment but you're the the three practices you had last week or maybe the hottest practices of camp you had the one in Nashville the week before to I imagine the hope is that'll help you guys going to Carolina what's perfected to be like a feels like temperature in the mid 90s yeah I think so I thought it was good for us but in particular in Nashville and I thought we handled the heat pretty well for the most part and then coming last week you know really some some human days out there and some tough practices so I think that will prep prep us well for the game for this weekend you know this week it cooled off a little bit so it'll be kind of unknown as to if that impacts us or not but I do think having the hot week last week in the Nashville will benefit us for sure all right so we've seen you long snap in
the past we've seen you throw passes and like what's what's new for Cole Clemente's you're like what's your what's your new skill that you're going to show off I don't know I mean maybe they can come with something I've done I've taken a hand off I've done a under center snap I've thrown a pass done a long snap maybe something on defense okay see who knows oh that would be good maybe like a goal line yeah I mean I don't know if you've seen the clip of Rob Rancalski at the end of the Miami game where he's doing that I don't want to get caught in that scenario but maybe maybe something on defense like kicking like if you had to I can't kick no no that's not what Scott report yeah well Cole looking forward to getting out there I'm sure you guys are just itching to get at it finally and good luck in your seven thank you appreciate it can't wait for it so guys the play he was talking about you remember the dolphins Patriots game 2018 they the Patriots put Grock back out there on Hail Mary situations because you were so big and he just knocked down the ball so the dolphins threw it underneath and can you drink ran and
ran and he actually out ran of Grand Cowskey to the end zone and they won the game on a walkoff and this is now off the top of my head because I kind of forgot about this but Ben Johnson would have been on the stats Dolphin staff that's a question that's a good call right there on the 2018 Miami Dolvets off to look that one up but Ryan Tanniel the Kenyan Drake 34 33 Dolvets I it was fun to go back and watch that today you know what happened by the way because I think what Cole come at is team up here not to take this too far but the Patriots lost that day but they did win the Super Bowl that year so put it all together and why not put Cole come back there in a Hail Mary defensive situation to try to duplicate the 2018 Dolphins Greg yeah yeah I like it I like it and and yes Ben Johnson was the wide receivers coach on that Dolphins team that you probably
put it on the play yeah definitely designed the play he definitely did and maybe he knows better not to put Cole come at a defense then so I don't know if that'll actually come true but I'm here for it I think he was looking straight into camera at Greg Bragg's when he said that yeah I mean I was am I disappointed that you guys didn't talk about my golf game yes I am that's it that's all I got you know it was the next question and we just ran out of time yes it was really what it was it was definitely we didn't even bring up Wisconsin Notre Dame and I had nothing to do with that either yeah I get it Cole he gets real no nonsense before the season super serious I get it all right guys I'm gonna let you guys take it the rest of the way and I apologized to everybody but especially you two because I had some lingering special teams questions that just not going to get to it's in time I have to leave so I know you're disappointed about it but well maybe we can you know we always got the weekend for an emergency pod if you're feeling so inclined of special teams emergency pod coming up on Saturday with Adam Hogue I'm in I'm so I'm so

that we're going to be doing this year yes so there's more hope coming up he talked to jamry chroma which we're going to play for you I also talked to jade walker that's coming up but we have a brand new cement that I'm naming it's called the happiest bear ever I think that Xavier Thomas might be the happiest bear ever with his locker room performance today so you tell me what you think I've never this let me tell you the interviews that we have coming up they're not nearly as happy as this dude wants today to talk about his speed and the bear speed and cleaf ramens speed all these things here's our guy the new new segment happiest bear ever Xavier that's his uh you know down I think leaf the fastest I think it go leaf dimmy then um I think everybody else after that kind of kind of a shame speed kind of of staying to see you yeah yeah I did but uh man leaf be rolling y'all be seeing them leaf be rolling I'm trying to get like him I tell him that every day he'd be like I'd be like leaf I ain't
a lot but you got another five in you he'd be like I'd be like come on leaf I know you got it he'd be like now I'm trying to get like you but just following a guy like that uh seeing the way he practice I just wish the best for him honestly our valuable has it been to be in the room with a veteran like him or even Rome and Luther going to year two everybody kind of knows what you're going through that is great because like anytime I need help uh like I said last time anything anytime I need help those guys pull me over to the side uh they always make sure I'm straight I can call leaf later and I take some cinema play he gonna let me know how to do it and where to go asso just having those guys in here um them being in the offense and stuff like that like I'm happy I'm in this position I'm good I'm good day by day how do you balance your responsibilities on special teams with learning the offense it's not it's not that much from me honestly because I've been doing a special team thing for a minute uh the special teams in offense thanks so it's just uh just a different stage but same responsibilities make place
what are you hoping for uh for your role in offense from similar to that uh tight new age I'm just hoping for a win as you want to leave one to know that's all I want to do how do you not love this guy great attitude great smile everybody looked at he was smiling remember when you used to look at me that way there was a fleeting moment it was very fleeting I think it was in a high school gymnasium uh it was the bears were selling us on Arlington Heights in a boat with a boat they had the paddle boats out paddle boats that was the moment where I was like I think I might like this guy yeah when I was wrong we were good we were gonna paddle boat together uh all right we got more from the locker room coming up but but first hey new vehicles are in store to our friends at Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram and this is your chance to score a great deal during the make this the summer event had to Ray CDJ are on route 12th today to choose from their

digest it but I can't wait to yeah it was a Caleb Williams intensive show I just kind of just bludgeoned Jerry Azuma and Lance Briggs with as much Caleb Williams propaganda as I possibly could do that's why I wore the iceman shirt today it was just it was a Caleb Williams day on the brick by brick program feel like Lance Briggs probably got annoyed at least halfway through the show well that was half the goal you'll have to tune in to see how it all kind of unrolled but I knew like I could play certain clips and that would incite Lance to say something funny so I had a method to my madness today but we had a lot of fun with it and I think we're all obviously very excited for Caleb Williams's offense and and everything that entails with that here you always have a method to your madness that's right and I will say this too is avian Thomas you know coming off that interview then I agree is the happiest bear of all time and I do think we're in a little bit of trouble when it comes to avian Thomas because you know when Hogue did the A plus draft
thing and then we made fun of him and we can continue to make fun of him like the the Xavier on aspect of the A plus draft I feel like the Xavier on selection kind of represents the whole idea of Hogue's A plus grade and like it look like it definitely feels like they're gonna it's gonna work out with Xavier on time as you at the time was like this insane reach they take him in the third round everybody's like how did you do that you should have taken him in the seventh and it's like it just we should know better and it like and years past it was easier to take the safe bet and bet against the plan the bears were doing because they never knew what they were doing and now when they do things that are rogue or radical the safer bet should be to just trust Ben because he knows what he's doing so what you're saying is you love it that the bears probably got the Xavier on pick right or least of a good chance to slowly seen so far you don't like it because Hogue's gonna be right right we gotta eat that we gotta eat that and then like in order
for it to be to then really be hammered home in A plus I need Dylan Thinam in to work out who is somebody I advocated for so like we're in a bit of a conundrum here it's a good one it's a good problem to have but I'm getting like really good vibes on Xavier and Thomas last week I'm breaking my break I was trying to tell Briggs and Azuma is the next dev and husser which is the most sacrilegious thing I've ever said in my life but this is where we're at right now it's just full hype mode we need to get to Sunday before I say something dangerously stupid well don't do that why don't we in lieu of doing that why don't we play a couple more locker room action for you do you want to do me or Hogue first Stephen you get you you make the call we're gonna go jade walker you're talk with jade walker car okay jade walker who was all business with yours truly a couple of days ago in the locker room I mean I was I tried to match his his focus but this dude's ready for Carolina the I tried to give him a nickname but didn't really quite work but I did my best here's jade all right I'm with what do you think about if I just call jade
walker from now on energy as as as uh as something for you because every time the practice started in training camp I'm here and you scream out I'm like this dude is in it every single day and it never stops that's why I mean I do have a lot of energy how you feeling about year two I would assume right now it's got to feel a little bit different than last year at this time we're woof I made the team but now I mean it's a it seems like a big opportunity right in front of you to be out there and make plays oh my feel great I feel more comfortable and I'm just ready to attack this year what were you proud about during training camp oh my consistency on being on my details and just stay healthy there was one drill in uh special teams where you you were able to get through and you had a lot of fun reacting to that so is that more fun for you than than I don't know not necessarily a touchdown cap catch but maybe something across the middle like I don't know that that you seem like you were really enjoying yourself in that moment uh yeah just bringing that energy
because a lot of people don't like special teams so I just try to bring it into to to show that I care and to energize the team how high is up for this year for this team right now well how you guys what's going on behind the scenes as far as you're talking about what can happen oh the sky's the limit uh we all know what we can do and um we're just taking the day by day we're not thinking ahead we're just trying to attack each day um with the great intent what do you see it from Caleb um just a poised dude um very focused um and also feel um just telling us like hey we could go to eat like we could bond like don't think just because we're away from the team that we can like cheer hang out with each other so we just keep that connection here okay I'll rewind back to last preseason and Tyson's throw to you do you think you have had made the team by that point I was just hoping I did something to um put notice on the on the league for real
I catch was real good for me um and I didn't know if I made the team obviously but I'm glad I did I'm calling that the greatest throw in catching preseason history that and it could play you could pay like looking away and paint off catch in the playoffs and who knows what's coming from there good luck today appreciate your thinking great throw in preseason bear history uh very focused jade yeah he's locked in I mean this is the guy that Caleb William said on how ones was the the the the the most talkative player in the locker room the most I think he was asked who's like the most annoying player in the locker and like the person that never shuts up I think is what it was and he said jade walker but there you got a totally different jade walker he is locked in I mean this is his moment and if you've been following jade through social media throughout the offseason and he's kind of shown his training um regimen and how he's been following around you know all the guys that are on the first team offense smartly so and then
just everything that's been going on through many many camp OTAs and training camp he has really positioned himself to have a a big impact on this elite offense yeah and the special team's part of his game what I was trying to we we actually talked to him after the interview was I was asking about his ability to get off blockers because he's not a really big guy as far as just you know he's tall but he's not he's not you know super muscular but he has a skill set of getting off because he's so quick that allows him to make plays on special teams that I think is you know increased his value so um you know he he does a lot of things that make him someone you want on your roster so hopefully he'll catch a bunch of balls this year but I think he'll have he's going to have an impact on special teams as well yeah absolutely all right should we get uh Hogan jamry chroma in here excellent filming by the the photographer here who did do went a little
non-traditional uh also was chastised by the host uh after on on how I can better film this but anyway uh this was Hogan talking about you know a guy who had a great preseason and hopefully he's gonna have a big time impact here here here here's Hogan with jamry oh want to know where'd you come from this camp um I mean just a lot like you know working put my head down a word you know developing and just being patient everything trusting my process yeah that patient seems like a keyword not many people make it through the practice squad for a couple years and then finally get their opportunity on the 53 did something click did you do anything differently this year I heard you lost some weight right yeah definitely lost a weight you know laws over 20 pounds I feel like the biggest thing I was doing is just like working to be like a much more better athlete like chain duration and nutrition just dialing on this thing like do the things that's going best benefit me to be a better player going to year three years three is like the turn of point yeah so do you feel just a little bit more quicker is the is the bend better yeah I mean I work on a lot
of things like the faster work on flexibility my mobility like you know all aspects that's going to help me not just be a better athlete but also be a better player on a field especially with my craftsmanship so now that we're here in the regular season what's the mindset you know it's probably a battle each week to be to be active and then get that opportunity to contribute so how are you approaching this uh you know one thing for sure take a week by week but nothing to make this more simple for yourself just take a day by day if you get better today that's a good thing you take it right step you know take it and that's that for and just once you get done that current day you know you focus on getting prepared for the next day and just do it over and over so I got to ask you about one play in that Browns game where I swear you you like came out of your stance and almost like jumped up do you know what plan I'm talking about and then I it's like the tight end didn't know how to block you and you just kind of weaved right through yeah I just felt like it was just me you know obviously when you playing a lot of snubs in the game you get that second win but I was just really like in the flow of things like it good I really got good feel what they like to do the cadence and just trust in my kids trust in myself my technique
and just trust in like what I see so was that an actual technique or was just something you were feeling in the moment uh I say both you know take me and at a conference and at a ability like what you can do you put that together there's going to be a great result well it was a fun preseason training camp I know the now we're at the real thing though so everybody's rooting for you and even your teammates right here rooting for you yeah definitely for sure I mean it's seen the work that I put in from the very beginning my rookie year so them seeing the difference in the progression like broke all the two year three and a lot of guys in locker room have nut but just be like proud of me well congratulations and we look forward to seeing out there in game day thank you I love that one he's got some great energy you can hear the locker room energy and that dude is uh you know can he can he can he make an impact we'll see the Bears need somebody to jump up and be sort of I don't know if Austin Booker is the comp here but somebody along somebody who can just come out and know or so to speak and get two quarter back yeah I'm I'm more excited to
see what the defense can be on Sunday because they're not playing Patrick Mahomes I like I like this matchup for the Bears I certainly am nervous that the potential that they could lose but I think offensively or I'm anticipating some pretty good fireworks from this team here on Sunday we'll see defense is a huge question mark and normally I'd be like in this demoralizing fear but I'm not because I think the matchup is good and I think the quarterback is just good and like he's not great right so like it's not I think this is a good test for a defense that we don't know much about that could be better than we think the way the coaching staff is selling it to us but I think this is an offense in the Panthers that isn't as scary as some of the other offenses they could have played here in week one and I think that gives the opportunity for the Bears defense to get their feet wet here crow mind-coded right well Gregory you have one more question for you today before we wrap up it's
been a long day for you by brick domination and appreciate everybody got my 18 holes in this morning got a birdie yep yep you know the birdie tomorrow tomorrow is Hogan Johns Saturday no show after dark tomorrow night after dark tomorrow night garden and Joey Christopolis gonna dominate but I'm wondering how you plan on spending the next 48 plus hours just getting yourself ready so you have a great pregame show on Sunday and be ready to go well I'm glad you asked that I mean I am you know I saw a peanut head as I how could Greg not be ready for week one after six months of offseason shows I don't know it just like forgive me but it just feels like the offseason never happened it's like the blink of an eye it feels like yesterday was the playoff game and I keep saying it but it just genuinely does and so I'm not like emotionally ready to like already be catapulted into the ideas of must wins or debilitating season-ending injuries like the C.
ox might have sustained in their quarterback like they're like we are about to be thrusted back into the the stress that we ended last season with and it just feels so bizarre to me so I'm like trying to work myself back into like how I'd normally be at this point but I'm just I don't there's a sense of peace I don't know what it is it's the trust I have in Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams that they're gonna they're gonna be fine I know what the there was so much question of who this team could be last year I know who they are now can they be great that that's the only question left can they be super bowl great so what am I doing this weekend well tomorrow I might try to golf I haven't golf that much this year so I'm gonna try to get that in for once if you would let me indulge and do something you know that I enjoy for once in my life but then the other tradition that I do every year before game day the day before game day is I made a DVD a long time ago called
the Devon Hester Chronicles I am very proud of this is the greatest project I've ever worked on should have won awards Oscars of that nature and you know my buddy made a DVD cover out of it it's like an hour long highlight compilation of all his touchdowns from his rookie year and his second year and with other plays and highlights in there that might have got lost in the history of time but luckily you had Greg there documenting every movement Devon Hester ever made from commercials to just everything Devon is the greatest so I made this DVD in every year before game day I watch it to remember the good times of Devon Hester I remember when I first met you I didn't like you then either but I remember you bringing it to one of our first tailgates at at old roles of Eldon Michigan when Jake Flanagan was rolling out the hot dogs on the grill that we had out there and
makeshift fashion and we still had a great time out there you know it pales in comparison what we do today by the way come out to our tailgates first three weeks two three and four gonna be amazing as is the whole season but you had that thing playing out of some car my car yeah your car your Hester video and that's what I knew you were completely crazy yeah I once um so then we were like I made these DVDs and then we were like I had my friend Jake make DVD covers so then we made a bunch of I like ripped all the DVDs out of my house and then like made copies of this and then we were like selling it out of my truck which is completely illegal we were doing this in high school and we were selling up to my friends and at the lunchroom and stuff and then one day we went to camp all right I went to camp with some friends and we gave a copy to Devon uh which was really cool yeah you told me that too yeah so like gave this to Devon yeah gave it to Vaughan McClure too uh Reston Pee's Vaughan I gave it to Vaughan and a few other I was very excited about this and it turned out great me and my guy Kevin Marcina put it together it took us like a year to make you
had a thought the production level of this is very funny but it's my baby and I'm very proud of it you can actually see some people are asking about it if you on YouTube if you search the devon hester chronicles you'll be able to see some of the content of of how it looked it's it's on there I know Kevin posted it's somewhere on there but you can't see the thing in its entirety you'd hang out with me to do that okay well we're gonna close the show now you asked me I know no you did a great job I just we have one super chat from our guide Joe Henshul great dd hopefully is feeling a whole lot better uh five bucks from Joe went with the lovelin jersey and paid for the expedited shipping hopefully gets here before sunday hope you boys are doing well as always great work Joe you're the man appreciate it Joe on the Instagram world and uh Joe's been in the battle but it's uh judging by that uh super chat I think he's doing a whole lot better I'd also like to remind everybody that um
this was a great show Steven produced it excellently as then I forgot what I was gonna say but that's totally fine um donny the crime glazer in the chat it's had some pretty great comments complimenting the the the fine work done you're the greatest of carbs uh talents at at how us hall was asking he he he searched it there is a trailer because I was gonna make a sequel and I never got around to it I just business got in the way but there is a trailer for the sequel that never came out you know it's I know the world was waiting for it maybe one day we'll get back in the lab and in release well Devon has the chronicles part two one can only hope all right we're back we're back tomorrow with hogan johns and then after that we've got we're not back till game day we're not back till game day there will be uh none of us hogan johns tomorrow after dark tomorrow night but like the next time we see each other it'll be game day but it'll be game day can't wait to spend
