It was a cracking morning for us. Bleary eyed folk was watching or indeed listening
to the Formula One. And in just his second season in the sport, age just 19, Kimmy Antonelli
leads the driver's championship for the very first time after winning. The Japanese
Grand Prix earlier on is the first teenager to ever sit top of the standings. He was gifted
the victory in Suzuki after a safety car period when Oliver Burman's horse crashed heavily.
Another frustrating afternoon, by the way, for Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, says
that he's considering his future after finishing eighth in this morning's race. He hasn't finished
on the podium in the first three races for the first time since 2018. He admits he's not
enjoying the whole Formula following changes to the engine rules this season. Does that
mean that Max Verstappen is planning to walk away from the sport at the end of the season?
Take a listen to this.
Privately, I'm very happy, but this, yeah, he also waved for 24 races. And then you just think
about, is it worth it? Or do I enjoy actually being more at home with my family, seeing my
friends more when you're not enjoying your sport?
There's more reaction on the checkered flag podcast from BBC Sounds. Scotland had coach Steve
Clark, say she's disappointed after his side were booed by some of their fans at Hamden
after their 1-0 defeat to Japan. It was their first outing since qualifying for this summer's
World Cup, just 11 weeks until their opening match. Time is ticking, of course, every coast
on Tuesday, a flight to America, the day after their final friendly against Curricow, and
then a final friendly in New Jersey in early June, prior to that curtain, Razor at the World
Cup.
We've got more live football this afternoon on five live, Chelsea hoping to boost their
Champions League qualification hopes when they host Aston Villa in the Women's Super League,
kick off in less than half an hour, and Chris Coles is at Kings Medo for us.
Yes, this is unfamiliar territory, James, for the six-time consecutive WSL Champions
to be out of the title race at this stage of the season, felt inconceivable at the start
of the campaign to potentially not make the Champions League unthinkable. They start
the day in fourth, top three required, win today, though, and they'd go second. Needs
must, when it comes to team selection, just two changes from Chelsea's first leg defeat
to Arsenal in the Champions League, Curricow and Carpenter in for Buchanan and Baltimore.
Villa have never beaten Chelsea in the WSL, this their 12 attempt, but they've hit a bit
of form after a tricky spell, Ossien Deslond, for Lucy Parker is their only change.
You can hear that one in five live sports, which gets going at 10 to 12 just to remind you.
One of the match kicking off at midday in the WSL, West Ham start the afternoon, three
points clear, a bottom of the table, Leicester, they're taking on the London City Lionesses
and Sahel Sahi is watching for this one for us.
Yeah, good morning, James. It's a London Derby to continue the Derby Day festival from
yesterday. West Ham, they're in a fight to stretch. They're eight-year status as a top
flight club with Leicester. They've got a game in hand. West Ham won't feel totally
safe until they pick up another win or two. London City, they have no such concerns as
they continue to enjoy their first ever campaign in the WSL and they have a league double
on their minds over their capital rivals. Five live sports on air like I say at 10
to 12 with Katie Smith in the chair, treble-winning Hulk Hale boss. Meanwhile, Willie Peters will
be leaving the reigning Super League Champions at the end of the season to become the first
head coach of New National Rugby League side-papar New Guinea Chiefs. It's a big blow for
Hulk Hale who under the Australian hold all four major titles available to Super League
clubs after beating Brisbane Broncos to win the World Club Challenge in February. His
stock is high indeed and another man whose stock is rising in golf is Cheffield's Alex
Fitzpatrick, who's won his first DP World Tour title, a final round 69. Soren claim a two-shot
victory over the Spaniard Eugenio Lopez-Shakara at the Indian Open. It comes a week after his
brother, Ryder Cup star Matt, won for the third time on the PGA Tour in the States, more in
five live sports in what 15 minutes or so.
