Delodder high fly ball, right field.
It's deep, Rayleigh's back at the wall.
He leaves, he can't get it.
Chase Delodder with a home run in his season-day view.
One nothing, Cleveland.
Ripped.
Feared on the right field line that should get too home.
Oskin scores.
Here comes Schneeman.
He scores two and Roqueo in the second base
with a clutch two run double,
as Cleveland takes a three to two lead.
And now Jose slugs on the left field.
A rosary go up and over his head.
One hops the fence.
Go ahead, run scores in Roqueo.
Here comes the water.
Here's the throttle to play to save.
And Jose Ramirez delivers a tie-breaking two run double
with two outs and now Chase Delodder.
Goodbye.
Deep right field into the night.
It goes and it's six four guardians.
It's a two home or night for Chase Delodder.
This is Cleveland's sports radio, 92-3-the-fan.
Audio courtesy, a guardians television.
Good morning to everybody out there.
What a great day to be a Cleveland guardians fan.
What do you mean by that?
Great day.
Start out season one.
It gets teamed that this could be a ALCS preview.
I don't, you don't want to go.
Do you really want to go that far?
Why can't I say that?
I will say.
Two teams expected to make the playoffs.
Yes, but can I say this?
I think it's obviously its position
because of the possible work stoppage.
It's coming up like you're reading a lot of articles
about the youth movement that's going on with a lot of clubs.
Save for like two clubs.
Three, we throw the meds in there.
The youth movement that's going on in professional baseball.
I'm like, well, if all these teams are going young,
we've always been going young.
Wouldn't we have a better chance
than some of all these other teams that are going,
quote unquote, young, the youth movement, things like that?
Like the traits are really good ball club.
I don't know if they're going to build a,
I don't know if they're going to build a 15 game lead this year,
but if they were, I don't know if they're going to drop it this time around.
But hopefully it doesn't get that swollen.
But if everybody else is young or going young and we've been young,
I'm like, well, if we're used to this system,
then what the hell's the problem with us?
Like what's wrong with that?
And I still say, like, I don't think there's anything wrong
with not being the crazy team in town.
And I'm going, yeah, 87 wins, probably a wild card,
because I have to give the Tigers their respect.
87 wins, probably a wild card.
And I think you can get a serious win
and we'll roll the dice and see after that.
Is that, is that so bad?
I don't think that's so, I didn't even give you time to give your prediction
if you have one.
If you don't want to give one five, you said you said 86 wins.
87, 87 wins yesterday.
87 wins.
That's the ballpark.
I had 88 last year.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, the year before, more than that, more than that.
And that, you know, they had dug themselves in such a deep hole a season ago
that what I liked and what I said I liked about this team is
they had no business after that news came down
about the suspensions and your dominant closer
that's just never going to be a part of the team anymore.
Yeah.
And you're wondering how many guys in the club,
like there was a moment when there was a report
where we thought was a whole clubhouse in on this.
Is this going to be the biggest scandal in baseball in years?
Is this like March shot or something like that?
And in the end, no, it was, it was pretty isolated.
Just two dudes and how they dealt with that.
I thought was so interesting that that could have bogged down
and basically ended the seasons for a lot of different teams.
And you that were not ready to handle something like that.
Now, they were able to handle it.
Always going to hate me.
Always going to hate me.
That's one for Kate Smith.
That's one.
Why would I hate you because you get mad at me
for while I'll close I watch closers all the time,
which I apparently I should have been watching
and watching the main closet a little closer to the game.
That's my biggest problem is that you set there
and you killed a manual class A for the wrong things.
You should have been killing them for throwing pitches
into the dirt on the first pitch of the eighth and a half inning.
I should have been knowing that something something fishy
was going on with that.
As closely as you watched him and analyzed him
and said that he sucked.
I should have been sucked.
He was just throwing games.
I held it in.
Oh, and I should have came out here
and I should have been like, listen,
I think that this guy's throwing pitches
where eventually he could be facing 65 years in federal prison.
That's what I really should have been saying.
It smells like the Gambino crime family to me.
It looks like banana.
I mean, what are you going to do?
So after last night, you're in.
I'm Kade, so I imagine you're in.
That's one.
Chase the lottery as well.
He's fine.
You know, who Kate Smith?
Chase the lottery.
There's two homeruns and it's, you know,
actual real debut.
Oh, I thought it was real debut.
I thought you were sitting and said,
well, it's, it is a debut.
I know how I feel.
Hey, I get to watch it tonight.
It was his first official hit.
Yes.
Because the postseason hits last year did not count as official hit.
No, sir.
So Chase the lottery.
If he can be, it's always if he can say,
if he can say, if he can say, if he can say,
he can say, if he can say, it's the same thing.
I'm going to throw a name in here,
which young John did not realize.
And I go, oh, there's, that's another person you got to learn.
That's a Cleveland thing.
That's not an everywhere else thing.
Because John falls baseball very closely.
And I said, and I didn't want to put it on social media,
because people get very defensive of this man.
If Chase the lottery can just stay healthy,
he could be the right filter.
Even though Lonnie Chisholm all started his career at third base,
Chase the lottery could be the right filter that we were all,
oh, the player that we were all hoping
that Lonnie Chisholm could be before the injuries.
Issue is the injuries.
If he could stay healthy, I think he has the power.
I think he has the play where he can,
he can, if he can obviously stay in the lineup,
that he could be that player that we always hope
that Lonnie Chisholm could be.
That's not a knock on Lonnie Chisholm.
Lonnie Chisholm, I think, by and large was robbed
by his, by his injuries and the fits and starts of his,
of his career.
Still had eight seasons in the bigs.
Still had eight seasons, but
by and large was, was robbed.
And I brought that up and he goes,
people here like Lonnie Chisholm,
I go, John, people here loved Lonnie Chisholm.
Like there were people in Cleveland
that would fight you in the middle of the road
over any disrespect of Lonnie Chisholm.
There were a lot of fans that that guy had.
And I look at Chase the lottery and I go,
oh gosh, I don't, body wise,
I'm not sure if they're the same stature,
but I look at him and I go, man,
that guy could be, you need some pop
around Jose Ramirez.
You need somebody who's a little bit consistent.
You know, maybe he could be the more consistent guy.
Now, people are going to hear me and say,
what's one game?
Yeah, but we've been talking about Chase the lottery
for the last, what, two, three years now.
So if you felt that way a couple of years ago,
then hopefully this is the beginning
of something very nice for him.
Something special, I don't know, we'll see.
But I'm not trying to put too much on one game,
but when you go out there and you hit two home runs
in an opening day, that's a very special thing for you.
And hopefully that's a sign of things to come for the Guardian.
Are you like me where there's certain guys
you just expect you're never going to see?
And he was one of them.
I mean, he was drafted.
Yes, 2022.
Yep, there'd been so much excitement about him
and then broken foot and then so much excited about him.
And then it was the toe.
Absolutely.
I think what, the left foot and then the foot fracture,
then the hamstring, then the turf toe.
And then I think even in spring training this year,
he was banged up a little bit.
And I'm just like, we're never going to see him.
He comes out and does that and has that performance.
And it's like one of those where you're like,
oh, how many fingers can you cross at the same time
to hope that this dude actually gets the opportunity
and can stay available for an extended period of time?
Because if he can, they haven't had guys over the years,
especially, you know, outfielders that have legitimate pop.
And I saw this last night just one of the numbers
floating around on social media that last year,
the Guardians were dead last out of 30 major league teams.
They were dead last in hard hit balls.
Yesterday, they had the most like they had a bevy of hard hit balls.
And that it's nice to see.
That's what a actual legitimate playoff lineup,
at least the top portion of it should have something like that in it.
So it was nice to see.
You've been looking for a guy to put in front of Jose
for a while since Lindor left.
Seriously, yeah.
It, you know, it's one game.
We got 161 left, but look pretty good.
Also, the 15th straight opening day
with a different right field.
Which I didn't realize, who was on 19?
Was it the Red Sox who were on 19?
And I go, oh, that's a long, long, long list of guys
who have started right field for the Red Sox.
I didn't realize we have 15.
I mean, we normally are a team that platoons
like four different positions for the first six months of the season.
But I guess it is a different feeling.
I'm just right now, some of the names.
I'm like, that guy was on the team.
And it usually happens that way for the guardians.
There's two or three guys on the opening day roster
that don't make it to June.
They end up getting DFA'd.
And we get, we get somebody up from Columbus
that makes an impact.
But yeah, which also, by the way,
Zach Meisels put this out.
Their social media reactions brought to you by.
Shive and Jewelers Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
It is 613, 11 seconds for those scoring at home.
He is the fifth to have a home run
in their first career at bat with the Indian slash guardians.
John Kenzie Noel was the other one, the latest one.
Kevin Kuzmanoff was the other one.
Kuz, Jay Bell in 86, Earl Averl, April 16th, 1929.
So this was, this was the bummer.
I said, you know, the mistake we had is,
I wish we would have had somebody I'm from Seattle yesterday
to tell us how they felt about starting a game on opening day.
That late for them.
I mean, it was really late for us.
Obviously, I think the game what ended, you know, 1240,
1240 in Seattle, like they don't want to start opening day
that late either.
And what is a bummer is just a fraction of the audience
got to see that all time or in an opening day.
Like, imagine if that would have been at home.
Imagine if he had posted that kind of day at home,
how nuts people would be going.
If it would have been a one o'clock or something like that,
it would have been a lot better.
By the way, Zach and reason why I was on Zach's page,
Tanner Bobby, there's, there's good and there's bad.
There's why there's uneasiness, I should say.
Tanner Bobby left last night's game
with right shoulder inflammation after the fifth.
So it's right shoulder inflammation.
That's your number one starter.
That's, that could be a bit of a conundrum.
Here is Stephen Vogue.
I believe, oh, who is this on this?
This is Stephen Bobby.
Oh, this is Tanner himself.
Go ahead.
I had a little bit of a test in there.
And I think I was struggling with the majority of them.
So I feel like I'm going to see how it feels.
It feels worse.
It feels better.
It's good.
See you later.
He seems to be fine by it.
You want to hear Stephen Vogue?
Yes, please.
I'm sorry.
I got my rods and cones mixed up.
My fault.
Go ahead.
I thought Tanner pitched out standing,
you know, a couple of solo shots.
That's going to happen,
especially against a team like this.
Leave a few pitches over the middle,
but really outside of that,
they didn't get much else going.
But you know, I thought Tanner was great.
So it's right shoulder inflammation.
He's feeling good.
So we just have to see how he feels
the next couple of days coming out of it.
But definitely the right call for him to let us know
he was feeling it through 78 pitches.
I mean, he always got to be a little bit careful
about that stuff.
Probably how many you're going,
your first start anyway, right?
Well, if you woke up and you just saw the,
the box score,
we five innings is fine.
That's that's about as far as they go anymore.
He's the only one that they really stretched out
over 100 last year anyway.
Uh-huh.
So it wouldn't stand out to you.
But yeah, it's something we got to pay attention to
the Tanner Bobby did leave last night's game
with right shoulder inflammation.
So I do think that again, if,
if all the guys can stay or if we're going to do youth
and everybody else is starting to do youth now
or more of them are doing it,
because I think they know that there's a lockout coming
and I don't think that they want to be be holding to it
and they want to get themselves some contracts
because we don't know what the league is going to look like
after 2026.
I mean, you could be looking on the salary cap
at a salary floor at some point.
And if you do get one of those things,
that means we're going to be without baseball for a while
coming up in the winter.
So I think there's a lot of teams just kind of holding it down
where you have teams that are in major markets
like the Yankees and the Mets and the,
I mean, everybody's critical of the Red Sox
for going as young as they have.
The Yankees and the Mets and the Dodgers
who are probably going to go for the gusto.
I mean, good God, let's call it what it is.
You can be frustrated losing is frustrating certainly.
But if I go down to the Yankees in the post season,
the Yankees are supposed to beat everybody in the American league.
If I were to go down to the Mets or the Dodgers
in the World Series, obviously it would be heartbreaking
but it could be understandable to some degree there.
So I think that that's kind of the way where you're caught into.
Can I expect a World Series run this year?
No. Can I expect them to make the post season?
I think expectations are there to make the post season with this club.
And if the expectations are there,
then you roll the dice of the post season and see where it goes.
I understand we've used this term before.
It feels very Steelers.
But I'd still rather them be the Steelers of Major League Baseball
than a lot of other teams where it's just,
hey, let's dust it off and who really cares.
And that's really it, which there are a plethora of teams
that they're like, oh, yeah, we're going to go with the youth movement.
Does that mean you're just not going to be competitive?
Because Guardians have been doing youth for 20 years
and they've been a competitive club almost every single year.
Every year it feels like there's 13 teams in Major League Baseball
that start to season with their fans having zero hope.
This is not one of them and you should appreciate that.
I thought, Lyman and I were friends.
I did not realize that he was this close with another host here at the fan
until yesterday afternoon.
More on that coming up in just over 20 minutes.
However, in about five minutes, yep, the Browns are crazy.
But I don't think they're dumb.

Basket of Phelps,
92-3 of the fan.
Jeff is off today.
Dan Mannigan is in.
I Dan, how are you?
I feel like, for those of you watching on YouTube,
you'll enjoy this greatly.
I feel like, A, in your mind, I'm immediately in my place.
I feel like the little kid sitting at the grown-up table right now,
it's clearly got the shorter chair than everybody else.
You seem like six inches taller than me.
Meredith behind the glasses, like a foot on me.
I literally feel like the little kid who should have a phone book under him,
because he's going to make a mess at the big kid table.
I don't know what the problem is, but between,
and Meredith came in today too.
Hi, Meredith, how are you?
Hi, I was about to say, Dan, now you know how I feel every day of my life.
I feel like I always need to sit on a phone book.
I feel like it's, this is one of these,
so growing up, we used to do Thanksgiving at my grandparents' house,
and we would put the table over the pool table,
and it had the lips on the bottom of it,
so nobody could reach anything in the middle of the table.
That's what I feel like right now.
Like, I feel like if the green bean casserole was in the middle of the table,
it would just be gone into the ether, and no one could reach it.
Mine would be under the table feeding the dogs on the green bean casserole.
I can't do it.
You're anti-green bean casserole?
I'm anti-anything green.
How long have you known me?
That's valid.
I eat my vegetables consist of any vegetable that starts with a sea.
I will eat it.
If it doesn't start with a sea, I probably won't eat it.
Yeah, you can.
You and our locals have the same diet.
Yeah, cucumber, carrots, I'll eat that.
I will eat lettuce.
I had to grow into it.
I hated it when I was a kid.
Cucumber, carrots, I'll eat cauliflower once more,
but it can't be cooked.
I'll eat broccoli too, everyone's well,
but I hate it when it's cooked.
I don't know why.
I can eat it raw, but I can't.
Is that weird?
Does that make me weird?
No, not at all.
There's a lot of stuff like that.
For me, I can't stand those.
We always call them carrot pennies.
You'd always get them around them.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I hate those things.
Oh my gosh, that's just mush.
Especially when they look like wafer.
Yeah, it's like the wavy potato chips.
You ever see those?
The carrots sort of cut like where they taste good.
Not a fan.
Yeah, those are those are fine.
Rom, okay, cooked carrots, and especially
and everybody goes, oh no, just cover them in butter.
They're better that way.
No, they're not.
They're not better that way.
But anyway, help sit over here
and hush as you would grown up.
So I've conversations.
I just last point on this.
I don't know what it is.
Whether you're in Meredith's spot,
your spot, whatever would be the other anchor spot
that we don't use anymore,
which I really liked it.
Cause I could sit and look at Jeff while we're doing the show.
Now Jeff is off on the side
because of the cameras they put it.
I know no one cares.
I get it.
Get me man, we're on the YouTube's.
But the thing is like our chair,
thank God for Anthony and Jonathan.
Cause our chair is like the one chair
that never gets messed with.
It's always here.
I never have a problem.
I watch you.
I watch Jeff.
I know I see Meredith.
I mean, it's always like,
chair rude lead in here.
Cause I don't get it.
It's just weird to me.
We have a bunch of fickle people
with fickle rear ends to state the least.
Fair enough.
All right, I think that's the cleanest way
that I could state that phrase.
So this is my way of saying thank you to Anthony and Jonathan
because we all use the same chair
and I never have a problem with it.
Now watch it'll be broken tomorrow
and it'll be the end of it.
You'll get nothing in like.
Oh, what are we like?
We're looking at,
Jason Lauders on pace for what,
324 homerads.
So my dad turns out that guy's pretty good.
I don't know if you heard rumor.
I couldn't ask for a better opening day.
Opening night.
I could, if the game could have been on at a time
the kids actually could have watched.
That would have been nice.
I had trouble staying away last night.
I mean, and what really makes me mad
is I miss the Guardians
challenging a ball and strike.
That just totally bummed me out.
Really?
Oh, I wanted to see it.
Like I was like,
I can stay awake.
I can stay awake.
And I don't know if I walked out of the room
or if I just, my eyes got heavy for a second.
My couch just sucks me in.
Whether you know that or not.
And I, and I also knew
I want to watch a game.
It happens.
Yeah, shake your head to wake up.
There are a lot of those where I end up
standing behind and putting my arms on top of the,
the backrest of the couch for that exact reason.
So it'll fall asleep.
It's kind of weird.
Like when can zone it,
hit the home run because you know me.
I'm like, oh, heck yeah.
He hit Cleveland.
Yeah, the first one he hit it.
I'm like,
damn, why does the kid from Walsh
has to have to hit the home run against us?
Well, and then Rayleigh had one too,
who's also from the area.
Just killing me, killing me.
You Walsh,
Jesuit warrior.
Um, it'd be nice that dude's been on the show.
No, I know.
I like him.
I'd say it's, I think it's awesome.
I'm happy that he,
I'm happy that he was able to get a couple hits last night,
but I was more happy with the way the Guardian
started last night because,
you know,
you get up there,
the water hits the home run right out of the gate.
And you're like, this is awesome.
And in the back of your mind,
you're like, yeah,
maybe that was our only home run for the night.
And we can only end up with one run, right?
You know, you were thinking that.
Oh, yeah, of course.
Watch this offense all the last year.
So I'm watching him.
He hits a home run last night.
And now all of a sudden,
I'm like, oh, here come the Mariners.
And then, um,
boom.
And you're like, oh, no,
it's one one.
And they're hitting home runs already.
And you were like, we had that moment in the first inning.
I thought that was going to be our moment.
And that was going to be it.
And they might get blown out last night.
But I'll take it, man.
Last night was awesome.
We had great fielding.
We had great pitching.
We had, am I wrong?
Like, do we actually score six runs in the game?
Heck yeah.
You scored six runs in a game.
And got it from multiple places.
Brian Roqueo, much maligned to Brian Roqueo.
Got himself an RBI double in that ball.
I mean, yeah, chased the water.
Hit one ball that squeaked over the wall.
But hey, they all count the same in the staff book.
And another one that I don't think has landed yet.
Which, by the way, as well, I thought of you immediately
when it happened.
Did you see his family's reaction when they did?
I thought of you immediately.
When his family was sitting there going,
did it, did it make it over?
Did it, did it, did it, did it.
Like, it was so cool watching.
All of them go absolutely berserk over.
Right, because you know, I like that story.
Absolutely.
Oh, because I love watching the families out on the side.
That's not an insult or anything like that.
That's just truly like across my mind.
I was like, oh, basket's going to be all over.
This is cool.
This is, this is so like,
because it brings that whole thing full circle,
cats in the cradle.
I was driving him to little league practice blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
You know me too well.
We spent, listen, listen.
Andy, we spent six years together.
This is how well you know me that you just called that out.
I went to the monsters game last night.
Dan Watson, who's the coach of Grand Rapids.
His family was sitting behind us where we were.
And Dan played for the barons.
And then he played for the Blue Jackets.
And he was in Toledo forever.
And all of a sudden, I'm like sitting there.
And he's got, you know, he's got young kids.
They're sitting behind us.
And they're the only people in the arena
that are wearing Grand Rapids stuff.
And all of a sudden, like monster score.
And I'm like, and then I'm like,
oh, I feel bad for the people sitting behind me
because they're, they're dad's head coach.
So my son was with me too.
So we started rooting for Grand Rapids.
Just when they scored because it was,
I still love the monsters.
Don't get me wrong.
But I felt bad because we got to meet the family behind us.
And that's pretty cool that the coach of who's a guy
who's one step away from being the red wings head coach.
Yeah, I mean, he's living Cleveland.
So anyway, that was a good, I'll talk about that later.
No, you're right.
But that's me like, I'm sitting next to these people
that I'm like, I don't want them to feel like they're alone.
There's four people in the entire arena last night
rooting for the other team.
And so I look at my son started doing the same thing I did.
And I'm like, well, I'm like, I really don't want,
I mean, I really want the monsters to win.
But I feel bad for you guys sitting behind me.
But I just thought it was cool to coach
when the other team was Clevelander.
Anyway, last night going back to the Guardian team.
Rees Hoskins three for three with a walk too.
No, I'm saving you.
It made me feel bad.
Yes, I saved you a seat on the bandwagon.
We'll keep saving it.
I got my coat in my bag right on top of the seat.
No one's going to sit there.
When you decide you want to come on, you can join Jeff and me.
And it's not that I'm not on.
It's the story.
It's not Rees himself.
It has nothing to do with him.
It has everything to do with the organization and the franchise.
Picking up a guy who might be walking towards the 19th hole
and trying to get one or two more drives out of them.
And then watching a month later,
knowing that they had someone who was in AAA
that was knocking on the door and you're like,
why don't they bring this guy up?
Bring him up and then you sit here
and then you end up struggling with the veteran
they brought in in the off season.
And you think the only reason they're keeping them
is because they're paying him more than they're paying the other guys.
Like we've seen this story at a time and time and time again.
This has nothing to do with Rees Hoskins.
I want him to succeed.
But especially when I look at the back of the jersey,
it's very close to basking when you look at the back of the jersey.
And I saw the skin part of it.
And it was just like, oh, that kind of reminds me of.
And sorry, it's very true.
Exactly, you know, what you said,
I want this guy to succeed
because I think he's a talented
and I think he has someone who could come in here
and really make an impact on this ball club
because he can hit 25 homers,
play a bout league average defense along the way.
And as funny as it sounds,
he's an A plus plus teammate as well.
Like that guy had no reason to be with the brewers
throughout the entire playoffs last season.
But he was there anyway because that was his team.
He broke his thumb.
He was replaced by Andrew Vaughn.
When he came off the aisle,
they sent Rees Hoskins down and said,
we can't sit Andrew Vaughn down.
He's in the cover off ball.
I get it, I get it.
And he went, okay, that's fine.
I'm not going to be here next year,
but I'm not leaving my team.
He did the same thing with his with the Phillies.
I was talking with John from the morning show.
He was telling me the story of him with the Phillies when he tore his ACL.
Throughout the entire rehab process,
that guy was with the Phillies.
That is an A plus dude for this clubhouse.
And I'm good.
So I feel bad that I said something,
not again, it wasn't about him.
It was about the theory of veteran coming in.
But and then when I looked at the lineup last night,
I'm like, if you're going to bring in a guy like that
and you think he can hit home runs,
why is he getting six and not fifth?
I like Naylor, but last night,
he was over, you know, he was over five last night.
And when I kind of looked at the lineup, I was like,
huh, I'm right, five, six last night, right?
Man's Arda was the age.
And then Naylor and then Huskins, right?
Okay.
Arda, Naylor, Huskins, and then Schneeman.
And then Schneeman.
So I broke you look at last night too.
I'm not selling my Brian Roqueo stock.
I still think that guy can hit.
I still think he's talented.
The second half of last year showed me some things
that maybe he hopefully figured this out a little bit.
He's not going to hit 20 out.
He's not going to be any of those guys,
but the way that he plays defense at shortstop,
if that guy can have a league average bat,
he is going to be huge for this team.
And it will be a big deal.
Now, granite, this team will take any league average bat
that I could get his hands on
because everybody on this team,
besides Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwanek,
and Kyle Manzano, were far below league average last year.
So like Brian Roqueo is one of those
where he continues to have good at bats.
He makes that decision really easy
and maybe just maybe the guardians
will understand as their entire fan base
continues to look at them and treat
gave areas the same way you do when your friend
is dating a terrible, terrible person.
And you want them to quit that person
because you know they're awful for you,
but for some reason they can't do it.
And maybe the guardians will get there with Gabriel
areas at some point.
And that'll be your bizzana replacement.
Yo, well, that's that's what I kind of feel.
Like I didn't think I like I don't want Roqueo to go anywhere.
I'd like Roqueo.
And so if he's going to go anywhere,
he's going to go to shortstop.
He's got to hit.
He's got it.
The defense is there.
Absolutely.
But he's got to hit decently enough.
He's got to be leaving here.
Here's where he may not.
If other guys hit,
I mean, you can always hide one guy in the lineup.
One or two guys.
Yeah, I mean, who knows what you're going to get
out of your catcher.
I'd like to give a little more, but out of Nailer,
but it's one game.
I like I don't want to overreact.
Oh, it's all over reaction theater.
It's wonderful.
The biggest one though, as well.
And we'll probably get into this a little bit later.
Tanner Bybe leaving in the six with shoulder
inflammation.
Yeah, it was weird.
Let's talk about that.
There are other things I really want to talk about
from last night's game, which I thought were fascinating.
Also, you know, just the, just the nuances of the game.
I kind of want to get into it.
If you were into the game last night,
you stayed up last night, you want to talk about it.
Get it off your chest.
Like I still, like I feel good about it.
I want to feel this way after all 162.
It's really hard to do, but you're right.
It is a little overreaction theater for the Guardians.
But it's awesome.
When you win, we're good to go.
Why aren't we?
We're all good to go.
We're going to do that.
We're going to talk to Tim May.
Chris, the Easterlings going to join us around one,
trying to sneak into baseball.
Yes, we'll tell you.
We'll make it a surprise for you.
We'll do that a little bit later in the show.

It's a f*** off Friday, on afternoon drive.
I think the obvious is, is chase the water.
I'm probably going to stay up tonight just to see the water's first to bat,
and then kind of take the evening back,
because I want to see how it goes,
quond the water to Ramirez,
and I'm just curious how those bats look.
The water high fly ball,
Rayleigh's back at the wall.
He leaves, he can't get it.
Chase the water.
With a home run,
in his season debut.
Yes, he's just such a mammoth prospect,
a guy that could hit for that kind of power,
and also hit for average.
We just haven't had these guys.
And now chase the water.
Goodbye.
Into the night it goes,
and it's six four guardians.
It's a two home or night for chase the water.
I mean, it's incredible.
We saw this kid make a debut in the postseason.
It was not a big eye.
He comes into opening day,
and for him to come up,
get a home run his first,
and then get us an insurance run.
He's working extremely hard.
He's a very talented player,
so it's fun to see him have a night like tonight.
You can book a game.
Number one goes to the guards.
They went six to four here in Seattle.
The big bat of chase the water.
He turned in a night to remember.
I really, I mean, it's cool,
but I'm not going to win tomorrow.
It's the afternoon drive with Nick Wilson and Jonathan Peterland
on Cleveland Sports Radio.
92-3, the fan.
The show is back in the guardians are going
to win 162-0, baby.
We've got the NFL off season rolling along.
Chance for a get back game for the calves against the heat
after that disastrous.
Some say season ending.
Loss on Wednesday night.
And then second half of back to back
that didn't really matter.
No, we really cared about.
And I think that ran out of hands, actually.
A lot of things happening in sports.
It's a feel good Friday.
It's an F off Friday.
That open courtesy of Guardians TV
and Mac Robinson on the board.
Yes, we salute you.
Supreme leaders.
So you don't cut us down in our prime for indolence.
I'll get there eventually.
The point is we got Jake Marin on the producing today.
And of course, manning the 92-3, the fan YouTube channel.
If you're out there if you're watching us
as our guy Ace told me he watched today,
by bumped into on the street,

We do like to be like seeing our guy,
Zach on there, seeing our guy.
Oh my gosh, I'm going to forget the second name there.
Seeing our guy and on there.
There we go.
Loaded YouTube chat to start the show.
Matt Karali.
The Ask Man himself.
On the 2020s, I'll show Long Hi JP.
Hello, are you doing today?
We're all right.
Good.
I'll take all right.
All right, for a Friday's nice.
Trying really hard not to do the thing.
We're as a middle-aged man that I get very,
very like ruthlessly upset
about how stupid the weather is.
Because I'm just sick of 30 degree temperatures.
But other than that, the sun's out.
Yeah. Well, life can't always be just Anthony Lama back ribs.
Am I right?
Well,
unless you got some money.
You know, saying?
No, I don't know.
Saying you get some money and get those.
I don't think that I think Baskin paid anything for it.
I think I think it was a free serve.
Well, that was more of like a respect thing.
Oh, is that what that was?
First one's free if he respects you.
And then why my charge is like,
what do you think why my charge is for a back rub?
Well, how do you think he, uh,
he pays for that house in, uh,
not with back rub money?
I don't think that's, I don't think that's through back rub.
What about front rub money?
I don't think that way either.
I don't, I'm on the right.
I don't think he's doing any rub.
Front or back for any amount of money.
You could do both.
It's a double.
Maybe it's worse now.
I guess he's just doesn't for free.
So it's not even getting paid for it.
Maybe it's maybe it's a lot of opportunity.
It's a lost leader.
Like when, uh, nevermind.
The point is, uh,
it was fun last night.
That was fun.
Baseball's back.
Baseball's back.
How late did you stay up for this one?
So I missed the first chased a lot of home run
in the first inning by about five minutes
because the girls had come home.
And so I was distracted.
And so I was like, I got to wait till the next chased a lot
or at bat, which was in the third inning.
It was this worsted bat of the night.
Yeah.
Yeah, he popped out and he knew he missed
like an opportunity to have another hit
because he mouthed a naughty word there.
And, uh, then I,
I then hosey batted.
And then I was like, all right,
I think I'm going to fall asleep now.
And I watched the rest of the game this morning
on the rewind where I then are rerun,
the recap or the rerun.
And then I watched chased a lot
or have graded bats and every other at bat
than the one that I actually got to watch.
There you go.
Interestingly enough, I was,
I was putting my daughter down to sleep.
Uh, she gets a bed a little bit later
than most kids her age.
And like I, we're doing this thing now
because she said a little bit of a sweet progression
herself around like staying in the room with her.
And so being the good dad,
I am, I just pop in the air pods.
And then I like have the game on my phone, right?
So I'm watching the game on my phone.
As I'm sitting there,
just waiting for my daughter to fall asleep
and so then I can leave the room.
And up there on my phone with the internet,
sometimes it cuts in and out.
And so like he hits this,
this ball that I think is going to go
and it might be gone.
And then you see it kind of go over
and then it shows the family.
And the family is just sitting there.
And it paused on the family not knowing
whether or not it was gone.
And there's like,
there's like a,
like a seven second reaction of me being like,
why aren't you celebrating?
He clearly hit it out to do something
as my TV has been,
my phone is just frozen on that moment
where they didn't know what to do
and didn't know if it was gone or not.
There aren't too many things that I'm a sucker
for in sports anymore
because working in this medium
has definitely beat it out of me.
Watching a family watch their,
their kid, their brother,
their whatever,
playing this first big league game
and have big moments.
We'll never get old for making.
Oh, and the broadcast was right on it too.
I guess it was like they,
their director, whoever is doing the directing there
could not have gone quicker to the idea
that this ball was hit deep
and then boom,
there it is right on the family.
Like he hadn't even touched first base
and it was on the family
and trying to get their reaction.
Now, I did notice that every bit
of conversation,
a reaction to last night's game
was equally tinsed with,
I know it's only one game.
Which I think tells you
how Twitter has ruined sports
because everyone knows they're going to get
at least one tweet about its one game.
It's one of 162.
One, there was a lot of fun last night
outside of the team.
And it might be shoulder inflammation
which he insists he's fine,
but I don't believe players
because they lie.
But no, I mean, it was a great game.
De Lawner having that game
is the thing that gives you hope.
Right? That's what you're looking for.
If you're guardians fanning,
not kind of sure where the offense is going to be.
You're not really sure where the bullpen's going to be.
You're looking for hope.
And last night gave you those signs of hope.
I mean, hell, even Rocchio
with that rope down the line there
to bring in the runs of the fifth inning.
But like De Lawner specifically,
the guy we've all waited to see
for three years now.
It feels like he looks healthy.
He knocked a living daylights out of the ball.
Even his worst at bat lights in the last night,
which is in the third inning,
which I saw was still actually a good at bat.
He just missed the pitch that he wanted to hit.
Like that's the kind of thing
that like the best part of the
relatively slow news charcoal cycle
to start the season is that you can kind of
savor a really fun first game.
Like I think everybody is today.
I know what's interesting
though is the baseball world is reacting so much
to the people that didn't perform yesterday, right?
It's Paul Schien's blowing up.
It's Aaron Judge in that Netflix game
on Wednesday night going
old for five and getting the golden sombrero.
Logan Webb looking pretty bad.
Bryce Harper going hitless of the plate.
The big dump or Cal Rowley last night,
old for three three strikeouts.
Like, like it's funny
because the only thing people have to react to
after game one is all the negative.
But what's funny about it is that
within the chase to water discussion,
I think we were kind of expecting
to have a mixed bag results.
When you have a game like that,
I mean, that's a type of game.
You talk about for two, three weeks after it happens.
I have it in game one and you check that off.
Like, it's just it's a it's a cool thing to say.
I was a little annoyed with the Ford
letter network who teased the Kevin Magano
game last night and listen for it.
He was awesome as well.
Four hits very.
We got the Trump card to see it to home runs.
And he had more RBI like, I'm sorry.
Like if we're going to be talking about big
prospects, chase the waters.
It was a little more impressive than Kevin Magano.
I know I was no one of Detroit sports talk radio
last night, though, and the convo was centered around
is mechanical.
The best prospect anticipatory
prospect Detroit is seen in a decade.
And it's like, like that's like that's the convo's
they're having.
We're actually not too far away with that to water,
but like we're going to have that same convo,
but Buzana's going to trump that when he gets up here.
Now we get to do the it's only one game part of this.
If that is the chase to water, you get not literally
two home runs every night because that's not going to happen.
But if you get a legitimate two hitter
and we're talking two 75 to two 90 hitter,
and maybe 30 to 35 home runs,
guys, we're going to be able to watch the offense.
It's going to be watchable.
And I think you will see as long as Hosey's healthy,
I think you're going to be see tangible jumps for both
Stephen Kwan and Hosey.
I mean, hell, they have a Hoskins hitting six last night.
Hoskins had a great game last night.
Great game last night.
The double he had down the line was the hardest hit ball
he's ever had in his big league career.
Really?
I was buck wasn't a one 12, 12, 12,
six, something like that hardest one entire career.
But no, I mean, I just think like,
I think it's really hard to kind of after one game,
just say how big of chase to water
being a real quality, not just to quality.
We're talking high quality, we're talking
starting right fielder with real power,
with real ability to hit a real hit tool
and and sandwiching him, you know, the top of that lineup.
I think it is impossible today, maybe for Guardians Vince
to really understand how much that could change the math on offense for you.
Yeah, we want to not get too carried away, right?
No, like, I mean, you don't get excited.
Well, you had a 30 to 35 home run projection there for a second.
I was like, let's let's, we got to put it in some context.
I could have said 40 to 45.
No, I get carried away saying, I think he's going to hit 50 home runs.
I think fan grabs projections at about 15 home runs this year.
So like one one game and now all of a sudden we're 30 to 35.
He's on pace for 324 home runs.
Yes, those nerds are so far off.
They're just, that's all that is.
Oh, 15, all that's cute.
Like, clearly, he's going to do more than that.
It was a great opening night.
I had a lot of fun with it.
I don't know that I love their home run helmet, though.
No, you're not going to be that guy, are you?
I just think it's a lame one.
Why?
What do you mean why?
Why is it lame?
Did you see what it was?
I saw it.
It's a medieval times helmet.
What does that have to do with the city at all?
Like, one of the cool things, like the Seattle they got their
Triton, the pirates just did one.
It's like a steel workers helmet.
Do we have any connection?
You're looking at me like we had a connection to medieval times.
No, I think we have a connection to those kind of helmets, though.
If you look at the guardians of the city,
they appear to have some sort of headgear on,
who's to say it's not a medieval time helmet.
Is that what they're going for?
Yeah, I don't know.
By the way, why can't it just be connected to the individual players?
I don't know.
I don't know that I wanted to like put on a like a mega parogi or something
like that in order to make me happy.
It just did seem, it seemed like it was forcing it a little bit too much for my taste.
Didn't love the home run helmet.
All right, you tell me that you tell me that you think the
Lauders going to hit 15 home runs.
I put your fan graphs, fan graphs, things that you co-signed
if I bring you a little bit out of the 30 to 35 thing.
And I said 31st.
So I will, I low played it there.
I said, I slow played it in 30 and then just added the 35 for fun.
And yes, I will, I will stand on the that home run,
the home run celebrations with the helmets.
Not the greatest thing that baseball has ever done.
Not the great.
I don't love the track.
You're right.
We should just go back.
They shouldn't even make eye contact after home runs.
It's a medieval night's, I don't want clapping.
I get it in Arizona.
They all went to the medieval nights fest.
Like I said, I saw, I watched the broadcast.
I saw where they got it from.
You've been in the medieval times.
Yes.
They had them just at this negative attitude about it.
It's just not, it's not my thing.
Do I seem like a medieval times type guy?
That doesn't seem like me in any part of life.
You seem like somebody who loses inhibitions when those nights
start hitting each other.
No, and they're doing the big announcing and they bring out the raw beast
whatever they're serving.
The massive, the one that would be taking that.
The massive turkey leg.
I would, that's like not a bad point there.
That would be the only way I would find interest in it
for being honest, but like I, no, everything down
for the massive turkey leg.
I guess maybe, maybe, but not for me.
Not my deal.
Who hurt you?
One other guardian stop from what?
I will hurt you.
Can I get, it's not a who hurt me type thing.
I have interest.
I have disinterest.
This is a disinterest of mine.
I think she more.
I can like, like the twins got that home run jacket
that they have, it looks a little classy.
Looks like they're walking into a night club
when they put it on like, that's not bad.
That's not horrible.
Let's class this, join up a little bit.
Mid-even night helmet.
Well, that way, wait, what would that have to do with the guardies?
It seems kind of weird.
I don't know.
You wonder about the guardians.
You want them dressed like...
Is it a one-size-fits-all helmet?
Like, who's going to even be able to fit into this thing?
A berry bonds in the steroids,
his head wouldn't even fit.
Well, fortunately, they don't do steroids anymore.
Oh, sure.
Oh, sure.
You keep telling yourself that one.
This is the guy that thinks the WWE isn't scripted.
Like, this is love joy.
No, no, no, no.
One more.
I don't have to love everything in life, Nick.
Didn't love that.
I feel like, I feel like this is just a harmless fun.
Things just fun, wasn't it?
I mean, yes, yes.
At the base of it, it is harmless fun.
You're right about that.
Out of all of the celebration and celebration helmets,
I think we might have the lamest.
I think it might be...
It might be one of the lamest ones right now.
I'm not going to do it, because it's Friday.
And I just...
They'll have you being a thief of joy.
Not a thief of joy.
It's a beautiful day today, but metaphorically,
it's a great day to be alive.
I can only tell you how I feel.
Can you change your feelings?
Not on this one.
I think we'd all prefer if you did.
Just in head just being like the helmet.
That's the different.
I don't know, guys.
I don't know about that one.
Say what you want about the helmet.
You leave a headshot a lot.
I've said a lot about the helmet.
Yeah.
Well, you could tell it was going to get in box 71 this year.
It was his influence.
Yeah.
As if like, I mean, I wonder what Hosey thinks about the helmet.
I wonder if he'll put the helmet on.
He might be too cool for school on that.
I don't know.
You think Hosey's not going to wear that thing?
He's going to wear that thing.
I don't know that he will.
He might be too cool for school on that one.
He's going to wait.
Not only that is he's going to take it home.
I don't know.
Use it in other ways after hitting other home runs.
Oh, yeah.
Thank you very much.
But they put the helmet somewhere else for protection.
Yeah.
I'm horny.
And listen,
when it just comes to Major League Baseball Clubhouse in general,
there's a lot of passing things around there.
Party with teammates.
It always makes a little better.
Wear the helmet.
Maybe get a couple helmets.
No.
You're a thief of joy.
216-474-0092.
Quick hits coming up at 240.
I know who we're going to ask about the medieval times helmet there.
Jason Stanford, former Indian's pitcher,
he'll tell us what he thinks about this beautiful back when baseball didn't need novelties
to celebrate a home run.
I guarantee you Jason's going to be a real man right on my side.
That's a real man right there.
He has no problem wearing that helmet.
Did you hit a home run unless you put a
helmet on.
And now chase the water.
Goodbye deep right field into the night.
It goes and it's six four guardians.
It's a two home or night for chase the water.
Audio courtesy of Guardians TV.
They're on Apple TV tonight.
So tomorrow's audio will be courtesy of Apple TV.
Well, I ain't going to be on tomorrow.
So I don't know.
Well, they got to figure it out.
Webbers on tomorrow's got to figure it out.
Whoever's on on Saturday.
Chase the lot of two home runs yesterday.
Which kid.
How many how many runs that it's how many RBI in the end?
He had two there were two solo shots.
Because I'd love to do the Burt bli-loven if I can.
Two two home runs.
I would love to do that.
He's still eligible for working in the year, right?
Yep.
Even though he has a playoffs last year.
Hell yeah he is.
What did you play like 40 games last year?
I know.
I do love that about the Major League Baseball.
What a lot of places have that type of rule of NASCAR has a rule about five races.
Lisa used to it is comparable.
Is it not comparable?
That day goes by.
I don't hear that comparison from
my buddies on the NASCAR circuit.
You don't have any buddies on the NASCAR circuit.
You grew up and it didn't have some family.
No, Rusty Wallace.
Yeah, that's a lie.
He told Rusty Wallace and Tyler Reddick when they were on the show.
But he's a habitual liar.
He lied about that whole thing.
Young John thinks I grew up in a long list of
it was timber people.
Timber people.
Christmas tree farm.
John, all right.
Lime told John,
John's family owns a Christmas tree farm.
And Lime has said that his family also
into Christmas tree farm in Chesterland,
which is a pretty good lie considering.
I thought you grew up in a long line of bitter men.
And John, John believed him.
A bitter man.
Because why would John not believe him?
I would have believed you if I were John.
I compared Chase the Lotter to
Lonnie Chisinal earlier today.
And the reason I did is because of the possible
potential that either one has.
Now, obviously Lonnie Chisinal was robbed of any possible greatness
because of the injuries that he had.
For a guy like Chase the Lotter should have more power
than Lonnie Chisinal ever would have had.
That's fine.
But if I compare it,
like, who am I going to compare Chase the Lotter to
when he just starts it?
Because we have a lot of hope for him.
But he gets her name sent to me.
Please, yes.
Grady Sizemore was one of them.
And Matt Laporta.
Laporta, I brought that thought to play.
Laporta was a pretty good comparison.
Matt Laporta.
Grady Sizemore was like that for a couple of years though.
He was really that good.
He was an ALVB candidate.
Grady's clue.
I don't want to compare him to Matt Laporta.
If I compare him to Matt Laporta,
then everyone is going to say I'm making him a bust, right?
Yeah, I think you're kind of doing that
with the Chisinal.
I don't think Lonnie was a bust though.
A lot of people do not want to hear that that's the career.
You know, your first round pick is going to happen.
I agree with you.
I think Lonnie was a contributor on teams when we needed him.
That's a bust to a lot of people when you're a first round pick.
What I'm pointing out is that I think that Chase the Lotter
could reach the heights as long as he stays healthy
that we wanted Lonnie Chisinal to reach.
And as a number two hitter in this lineup,
if he can provide some power where guys have to pitch around him
and then have to deal with Jose Ramirez, then we're laughing.
You know, we're not going to be the Yankees
with the lineup that they've had, at least not yet,
but we're laughing about it.
And you can have a strong season because I'm reading more and more.
If you guys watch MLB, if you guys look at MLB.com
and all the other things getting ready for the season,
you'll see a lot of stuff about this team.
A lot of teams are going, quote unquote, the youth movement.
And that's a nice way of saying like,
they don't know what's going to happen this winter.
And I've been down that road a bunch of times.
But if everybody else is just starting the youth movement,
quote unquote, we've been in the youth movement for 20 plus years.
So which team is more apt in the American League for the next 12?
Obviously.
Well, we'll see how it goes if fans get what they want out of this.
Coming up next winter.
But if you, if the Euro have a team that's been in the youth movement for 20 years,
I don't know which team is more apt to actually compete in this season.
Is it a team that's just decided to look with aid assets and do the quote unquote
youth movement or is the guardians who that's become the way that they do business?
Because when teams usually say youth movement,
it's an excuse to be bad because they're not going to pay anybody because they don't
know what's going on or they just don't think they're ever going to get there.
Or with this current group.
Well, they're also the guardians.
They would have to be legit like top of the line world series candidates
to think.
And remember, they did this in 2016 and 2017.
They weren't worried about whether they were blocking youngsters from coming up.
They would have to be at that rate again, like on the brink of 95 wins,
100 wins in the following year.
Yes.
You know, they're going to pounce her at that trade deadline,
like getting Andrew Miller the way they did.
You know, Jake Bruce's of the world, like then yeah, fine, you're going to pounce.
But until then, you know, they're never going to bring in veterans and free agents that could
block some of the younger guys who've coming up.
That's exactly right.
And by the way, it wouldn't make sense to exactly it.
And there's also people responding to what I said about payroll and all the other things.
If they go and they get a salary cap, I can hold them to a different standard.
Until they do, I understand what I understand.
Or they've said it so many times where I have to choose to believe them
because of how this has gone.
So I look at game one.
If I say something too cheap about chased a louder,
if I say something too cheap, then I didn't give him enough credit.
If I go overboard and I say, you know, this guy's going to be the next Jose freaking Ramirez,
well, then obviously you're going overboard and you're saying crazy things about a guy who's
played game one of hopefully 162 or close to it.
So it's all potential.
If he can, and he's a rookie, so that means we're going to have peaks and valleys.
We know that.
But if he can harness some power and provide pop before Jose Ramirez,
I think especially with a lot of teams kind of bowing out on 20, not the Tigers,
but with a lot of teams bowing out on 2026.
Okay, why can't we end up in the ALCS because of that?
Some things got to go our way.
And also it's not lost to me where Tanner Bibi having armed discomfort,
shoulder inflammation on the right shoulder.
That speaks to me.
I know he downplayed it.
I know Stephen Vogue downplayed it.
I hope they're right.
That's not a great start to it because you need all the pictures you can get
obviously with the Cleveland Guardians.
So there's some things that have to go our way.
But I see a team that's young.
That's always been young.
It's always been young that has been competitive for the last 20 plus years.
More often than not have been to the postseason.
You said what seven of the last 10 seasons.
That's a very successful franchise.
And so if you've been to the postseason seven out of last 10 years,
then I would say that you could get that at their eight out of the last 11.
And you could be a team that maybe ends up in the ALCS.
And I think that that would be a hell of a season for this team.
You lose to the Yankees who have a huge payroll fine.
That happens.
And what are you going to do except for try to compete
to what they are and we'll figure it all out.
Coming up next winner is kind of the way I'm seeing it.
There's no reason to be down about them.
There's no reason to be cynical about them.
They don't give you a reason to be cynical about them.
Yes, they are.
You didn't want to bring this up this week because it might sound like a downer.
I don't think it's a downer.
I really don't.
They are the Steelers of Professional Baseball.
And that's fine.
You're never going to be that bad and that they don't want to be that bad
because they know if they are that bad, then no one will come.
Well, it's too good to take it out.
There's no way.
Yeah, they're too good of an organization.
Exactly.
To ever be that bad.
Exactly.
So they're a competitive team that yes, if some things go their way, things can change.
But 87 right there in the meaty middle, that's perfectly fine with me.
You know what I love to.
We played a baseball game last night with robot UMS.
And I haven't heard one complaint yet today from a Guardians fan.
About the robot UMS.
The robots didn't attack anybody.
Wasn't like any of those MIT robots that tried to jump into a bus stop glass.
I didn't see that.
Then none of that happened yesterday.
One of the Waymo who did it.
And you see the one that got stuck by the train tracks.
I did.
But you know, Seattle didn't even use their challenges yesterday.
And they had a couple of pitches, a couple of big ones that I'm like, wow,
Cal Rally had one.
And he had up striking out.
I was like, wow, could he use one there?
So teams are still trying to figure out when to actually use their
challenges.
We used one.
Coming in hot.
945 years.
You're going to buy the catcher.
I love that.
Those are my favorite.
Coming in hot.
945.
We're in the midst of the sweet 16 Clark Kellogg.
Going to be joining us here in five minutes.
Ohio High School basketball legend.
College basketball legend.
CBS Sports College basketball analyst.
Clark Kellogg joins us in five on the fan.
Basket of Phelps, 92-3, the fan.
Yep, Luke Rally.
Got to give him a little love to Highland High School.
Medina played at Lake Erie College too.
So a couple of Clevelanders beating up on Clevelanders last night.
But in the end, it's OK.
They got to pad their stats.
They can go do great things against other teams.
Just not against the hometown team.
And the hometown team came up six, four last night.
If you didn't stay up late, the Guardians
of Big Winter last night.
And it was just a fun game to watch.
There were a couple of other little things.
I know we're going to get to ABS here in a second.
Because I love talking about it.
And I don't know why.
And I'd probably only going to be for a week.
And then all of a sudden it's just going to be a part of the game.
And you know, we're all going to walk around
when someone does something stupid.
And we're going to knock on our head and go,
oh, I can't get a replay on that.
Well, so last year because they test drove it and spring training.
Oh, I know.
Last year they were, I think it was game suspensions
if somebody tapped their head at an umpire during the season last year.
So even getting rid of that thought out of these guys' heads
is going to be a change of pace.
All right, so let's get to that in a second.
There's a couple of things I want to talk to you about
when it comes to the game.
We're going to go to the phone lines, too.
216-474-0092.
216-474-0092.
First of all, I laughed at Jeff yesterday when he was like,
oh, we got a bunch of guys that could play basketball, too.
Did Connor Bragg did not look like he was like 72 on the hill last night?
The guy is 6'6".
He ended up getting the win in the last night's game, too.
Holy moly.
So it's man.
Is he tall?
I was sitting there yesterday.
It was kind of a Randy Johnson feeling I had.
I was sitting there yesterday as I was watching the game.
And T off when we hit the point, accordingly.
I'm sitting there playing around on all the nerd metric websites
and looking up all of the extensions for all of these guys
over all of baseball, which is how far these guys
when they finish, how close the ball is when they release it to home plate.
Yeah.
Every single guardian's picture is toward the top of that.
Like, if you look at the top 20 of it,
there's like seven or eight guardian's pictures
that are right there.
Like, clearly they are targeting these guys who are tall and long
and release the ball closer to home plate than anybody else
so that those pitches look faster.
I just never really thought about that.
Yeah.
Well, that was Randy Johnson's thing.
Yeah.
You know, that's where you would always hear these guys saying,
it felt like he was right on top of me.
Like, it was the same thing he used to say about Walter Johnson back in the day
with the, you know, when he pitched,
as they were like, felt like Walter Johnson was throwing right on top of me.
Well, it's because you're so darn tall and long.
Yeah, I was just so watching.
I'm like, I wonder, is there, are his pants hiked up more than most players?
His legs were like ladders.
You're right.
High socks make guys look taller.
But even, even from the outfield camera,
when they were shooting, which is camera two, I think,
that when it was looking in, I know TV talk, I'm going to be,
you know, when I'm looking in and I'm like,
man, he just looks like he's, he looked like the jolly green giant out there last night.
Compared to the other guys, I, I mean, Logan Gilbert is in short either.
Logan Gilbert's like six five.
No, sorry, Pitcher for the Seattle Mariners last night.
The other part of the game that got me was a brosky on guys nails.
Fire last night's nails on fire.
What was he, did he have face four batters last night,
struck out three?
And it wasn't like he got the easy part of the order either.
I mean, he was knocking down the big boys last night.
Yeah, hitting, uh, hitting's hard.
I would love to break it down farther than that.
But I believe it continues to may be the most truthful statement going,
hitting is really hard.
And especially when you start watching a lot of these guys and you watch a
brosky and you watch Kate Smith at the tail end of this, I mean, goodness,
even Logan Gilbert's fork ball that he was throwing yesterday,
which he calls a splitter.
I think it's a fork ball.
But the only reason I know that one is because we used to have that baseball as a kid
that had all the put your fingers here and it was that pitch.
But even that thing is unhittable.
Like, I, I don't know how these guys do it.
And especially gets his guardians bullpen.
I know there were some people who were a little skeptical on the guardians bullpen
this year that it wasn't going to be as strong.
I'm not there yet.
And I think it's just because exactly what you said,
those guys who can just fling it, it moves all over the place like Bugs Bunny balls.
And more than anything else, I just trust the guardians pitching factory.
I've been burnt so many times and saying, oh, no, this is it.
They're not going to do it.
They do it every year.
The guardians pitching factory has this figured out.
Yeah, I don't understand how, but they've done it.
There was one other note that kind of came through the day yesterday.
And somebody said it last week that hitting is dead.
But do you remember what somebody said that hitting is dead?
And I was like, that might be one of the, I'm like, the season has started yet.
There were more teams that scored 10 or more runs than shutouts yesterday.
The Mets put 11 up against the pirates.
They won 117.
The Brewers had two touchdowns.
Nice to take down the Bears.
Well, again, they were playing the White Sucks 14 to 2.
And the Nats for you, Mayor, 10 points, 10 runs,
and two basketballs out now.
10-4 winners over the cups.
Otherwise, there were a couple three nothing games.
Tigers put eight on the board yesterday.
Cards put nine on the board. Dodgers at eight.
JJ Weatherholz hit that.
It's not out of the ball, which was good for Cardinals fans,
because that's their big top prospect.
Same draft as Pazana, by the way.
Big day for scoring runs.
Aaron's an Amherst.
Diane, how are you?
Hi, Aaron.
Hey, Andy Dan, how are you guys doing?
Doing great.
Now, I got to tell you, after watching the game last night,
even if you fell asleep on part of it or you woke up this morning and found out
they won, I tell you, it was a fun game last night.
Good way to start the season.
Absolutely.
And I called the other day, Andy talked to you and Jeff about,
I guess, two quick points.
I don't want to keep it going.
It's fun.
Chase the lottery.
Play it a young man.
I said the other day, I said, I know he maybe has a little bit of injuries,
but he could be special.
What's your thoughts on that?
Thank you, Aaron.
Appreciate it.
We had this conversation coming in.
I'm like, and then, did you hear what kids said this morning?
I might have been on a phone with him.
A lot of each isn't home.
Oh, God.
Did you hear that?
Did you hear it?
Or you just laughing?
No, but I felt the disturbance in the force and I think it was less
Levine turning over on his grave.
I understand why Ken said it.
Like, he's getting killed.
I guess on social media.
But, you know, he's saying, oh, it could be as good as Luzlani.
And I was like, what?
That's the bar.
Like, we go higher.
This guy is.
And by the way, I was going to do it.
And Ken spent time with him in Akron.
So he's a good dude.
Really, really good dude.
He's really talented.
I mean, this guy, the lottery is unbelievable.
He is a true five-tool player.
And you're going to see it this season as long as he can avoid
the nagging injuries that have gotten him in trouble in the minor leagues.
I think we're just going to see it.
And look, you know, of course, we're all we're all going.
That's right now.
It's opening day.
That's what you're supposed to do when you win the opener.
You know, it's everything is so overreaction.
Well, you have hope that you're going to go once 162 and out.
Exactly.
And you know that the marathon is about to happen.
But boy, having that first, you know,
little bit of the race where you look pretty good makes you happy.
I hope the water stays healthy.
I hope it continues to do this.
I know he hasn't had a ton of minor league at bats,
which I know concerns some people.
But like, the talent is there.
The ball explodes off of his bat.
It plays a really good right field as well.
I know they're trying to not have him play center.
But I wonder if his overwhelming talent is going to force him
into center field at some point where they're going to go.
All right, at least for the time being, you're fast enough.
Get out there and your bats good enough.
And maybe our best lineup has you and George Valera
in right field or even farther down the road of a Ralfi,
Velasquez or something like that.
You know, like maybe that's where this sits best.
But I wonder if it's going to be hard to keep him out of center field.
Hopefully stays healthy.
Please stay healthy.
Concerns.
Are we concerned about Bobby leaving?
How can he not be?
I was just weird.
When they showed the replay of him warming up,
I didn't really see it there either.
They didn't know what it was when he first went off the field.
Right.
Because when I first saw it, my initial thought was,
I think this might be key that I watch way too much baseball.
So when you see the Tommy Johns injury take place,
you always see the guys doing the finger test.
Yeah.
Where they're doing this whole thing to see if, you know,
it's touch your thumb.
Exactly.
If you're listening.
And so I didn't see him do that.
And so I was like, okay, it's not the elbow.
It's the finger to touch the toe.
Every other finger.
Right.
It's not the, it's not the, it's not the elbow.
We're okay.
But boy, coming out of spring training and all of a sudden,
you're seeing shoulder inflammation.
That's, that's not what you want.
I mean, that does not set you up very, very well.
And especially that might be the linchpin of this guardian season.
Is the fact that for the first time in a long time,
the pitching staff isn't like the starting
pitching staff, especially is not super deep.
I mean, they've got Logan Allen down there.
But once you get past Logan Allen,
it's a whole lot of question marks.
You know, I tend to,
this organization once they started going pitching heavy
rather than hitting every, it always seems to,
we hit points like that.
It's almost like a roller coaster up and down.
But then when you think they don't have the depth,
suddenly someone comes up and you're like,
I didn't expect that.
Yeah, exactly.
It happens time and time again for this.
I actually think it's one of the reasons,
you know, they're one of the better franchises
and Major League Baseball.
Yeah, so 60th round pick comes up and all of a sudden
adds five miles an hour to his fastball.
And you're like, holy crud, what is this?
Who's this guy?
Jeff is in North homestead home of the Eagles.
Hello Jeff.
All right, Jeff.
Good morning, boy.
Good morning.
Good.
It's a really good morning, isn't it?
It's a good morning, but it's great morning.
You know what, it's funny though,
because last night I started day watching that game
with so much energy and we get about halfway through
and I could catch myself dragging.
Oh, Brian.
You've got my wife's like, babe.
I'm like, what?
And I saw Jose hit the double.
I saw him rounding the bases.
And I started, you know, like chanting Jose Jose.
She's like, uh, go to bed.
You're delirious right now.
So I had to get up this morning
and check the boss score to make sure we close it out.
What I love about Chase
and what I find so intriguing about him,
he has lightning quick hands.
He's got such a short, smooth swing,
but all his power is generated from that bottom half
and that torque.
He's a bigger guy.
He's got those tall legs.
And it reminds me a lot.
And I know there are different players,
different positions.
And I think Chase is a better hitter,
but he reminds me a lot of a richy succin
with that type of power and that quick swing.
So yeah, completely different comparison
than Lonnie chose at all this morning.
So pretty funny.
But I also found great yesterday
was Reese Hoskins contribution.
And I was hoping Jeff was here,
because I know Jeff would be talking his head off
this morning.
And I found it so cool to see that,
hey, there's some production
from a right hand in Baton, Atlanta.
What I found interesting,
and I was telling Mr. Minigan
before you guys put me on is
this whole ABS system is intriguing to me.
And I wasn't a fan of it.
What I find so interesting
is it's so much different
than other challenge systems
and other sports, right?
Like how are they going to utilize it?
When is the right timing to utilize it?
I think what we're going to see
over the course of this maybe first 50 games
is teams kind of putting themselves
in a pickle with when they use it too.
Like I thought Riley should have used it last night.
There was a big moment
where he ended up getting wrong up
but there was a borderline pitch
to pitch before and he didn't use it.
You know, so how are these?
How are these?
So Jeff, this is exactly what we want
to talk about next segment.
We're totally going to dive into the ABS thing
because I'm absolutely positively fascinated by it.
I know I'm excited the same way you are.
And I also know that the shelf life
I'm talking about is not going to be very long
because you're just going to be used to it.
It's just like the pitch clock.
It's just like changing of relief pitchers
that you don't even think about anymore.
Things that garnered our airwaves
for a couple of weeks.
Sound visits.
All I've got.
You don't even think about it.
And the way that TV handles it,
I think that's important too.
We're going to talk about that.
216-474-0092.
That's the number to call in.
Always hit us up on social media at CLE
