This special episode delves into the life and theories of Abraham Maslow, a renowned psychologist who is famous for his "Hierarchy of Needs" theory and his contributions to the field of "Humanistic Psychology." In it, I examine the intersection of Maslow’s ideas with Christian principles, analyzing how concepts such as self-actualization and human potential align with the biblical view of human nature, purpose, and fulfillment. I also discuss Maslow’s later work in transpersonal psychology, in which he explored mystical and spiritual experiences, and I critique this, as well as his controversial views on eugenics. Finally, I conclude by arguing that a Christian worldview provides a more comprehensive understanding of human flourishing than Maslow’s theories alone.
I shall be posting several bonus episodes over the next week or so whilst I work on our next season together, in which I return to the New Testament and begin our study through Paul's 2nd letter to the church at Corinth.
