Conor Bernard ties the game with a minute 20 left on an unbelievable shot through traffic.
Top corner as if he was picking his spots might have hit time or Myers but regardless a really great shot
data to nothing lead. They tie it in 20 seconds and over time a weird little whiff on the
eventual game winning goal by Miro Heisken and just throws a resaudible amount enough to make
the difference in the game. Yeah I mean going into this game
kind of expected the Dallas stars to have this kind of advantage throughout the game.
There are more talented team they are a team that plays that kind of overbearing style
and and you know we we talked about it like the hawks needed to get out to a fast start first
game of two back to backs this one on the road and they did exactly that they got out to a
two nothing lead like that's that's that's what you wanted to see from this group.
But typical Dallas stars fashion like you cannot count them out they're able to just keep
battling back and keep battling back and coming at you and that second period was just
domination from the stars and I know statistically as Alec Martinez said on the on the broadcast like
statistically yeah maybe it's not high event by shots on goal and everything but like you look at
the puck possession numbers you look at the shot attempt numbers like Dallas just controlled
everything pretty much the entire game but you know mainly that that back 40 minutes.
So I'm I'm impressed actually that the black hawks were able to get a point out of this game
Arvid Siderblum I know he gives up four goals but they don't have a chance to tie this game late
without the performance that he had. And all the ones that went in were just kind of weird like
weird bounces and yeah bounces deflections you know right at the front yeah the first goal
was the it like pinballs off everybody on the way to the net they go by bastion it hits like
three people in front then you've got the second star's goal where Nasar's in front and he trips
on Louis Crevier's leg and it goes off of him and then power play goal from Maverick Bork on of course
a soft ass call on Louis Crevier he was trying to play the puck and Maverick Bork trips on his
stick stars get a power play and score so none of those you're putting on Siderblum I'm not putting
the overtime winner on Siderblum I thought he played really really well and game could it like you
said could have been a lot worse absolutely could have been a hell of a lot worse if not for him.
Yeah yeah and credit to the to the hawks for battling back it was a was very late in the game
um but you know you got that power play your first of the game comes with like four minutes left
to play uh and and they generated some good chances they generated some momentum and they
carried it into the to the end of the game and and you know you get the six on five goal which
should spend a kind of topic recently of how they have had like the fewest if not any uh six on five
goals this season uh in the NHL and and they get one from Bedard and um look I mean that's
that's that's what you're kind of this is the point you're at where you need guys like him
and he's always been that guy uh since he's been here but guys like him and and uh guys like
Frank Nays are like the young guys brings all getting a goal tonight um you need them to be the ones
now to kind of take over the reins and and and step up and you know you can't look down the bench
or look around the room and and expect many other guys on the group um to be the ones to do it
like they're the now the ones that are going to be looked at to do it so this is going to be a big
maturing process for a lot of those guys these these final few games heading into next season
well and we're waiting for an update on Oliver Moore who left the game and he was playing good
right until he got right up to his injury that Samarins goal probably doesn't happen without
his hustle him and Colin Blackwell get tied up behind them at both of them hit the boards hard
and uh Moore was able to skate off but needed help went right to the room didn't return
yeah sure waiting on an update from him and it's it's funny it's almost like that's when the
game shifted when they lost Oliver Moore and it's kind of what Jeff Flashall said before the game
like eleven and seven has his advantages but sometimes when you don't have consistent lines
things you kind of jumbled up guys are playing with different guys the whole game yeah I think we
saw a little bit of that and I think we saw some genuine concern about Oliver Moore like Samarins
all scored that goal and I think you know half the teammates didn't even realize it and he like
pointed was like Oliver and then everyone had it right over to help them off the ice yeah so it
didn't look good we don't have any update yet aside from the fact that he didn't return to the game
but of course we'll keep our eye on on the news as it as it comes in um but yeah he he was he was
really really good but that that's a big story to uh watching this one I also want to shout out
I think out of left should have had a really solid game today you did uh you can go dig in the
numbers you can go and pick it apart and say well his possession wasn't great and he was on the
ice for this many shot attempts for and this many against he was on the ice against big matchups
and held his own uh saved a goal blocking a shot uh saved the goal tying up a stick got an assist
on the Bertuzzi goal from seeing an opportunity really going into the net which is something I want
to see the rest of the team kind of go to school on because one thing that was driving me crazy
throughout this game was they would enter the zone with numbers and then evidently they kind of
pull up and look to drop it to the point and then the point man's trying to find a guy along the
boards and are trying to cycle cycle cycle for that perfect shot and then you go watch the Dallas
stars who are the second best team in the Western conference maybe the second best team in hockey
and they're just throwing stuff at the net they've got you know they got three on two
somebody on the right wing boards just throws it at the pads of Arvand Sonderblum and you've got
yourself a rebound opportunity it's spent something that's been frustrating all year it continues
to be frustrating I do think part of this is too you've got young players who are trying to be
perfect trying to do the right thing trying to be unselfish if there's one message that Jeff
flash on needs to send from the trade deadline on here is there is no more selfish there is no
more deferring to a veteran this is your team the veterans on this team are here for a year maybe
two and then they're gone this is your team take it over they don't want you deferring they want
you scoring and creating and creating scoring chances so do it do it do it that's got to be the
message because when this team plays a simple game they can hang they're not a playoff team but
they can hang and and that second period especially is when we really saw them kind of spinning around
trying to be perfect trying to be perfect just take your rush north and south pucks on net crash
the net score on rebounds it's how goals are scored in this league yeah I yeah I think we've seen
some success from this team when they've been able to play that that style and it's just kind
of been confusing that you know that that consistency hasn't been there and then that like the desire
to play that style can be tough when you've when you've gotten to the NHL because a lot of these
guys they've been the best players on their teams over the years and some of them recently coming
out of college or junior or wherever they're coming from they've been the best players on their team
and they've been able to kind of play you know more intricate and fancier sexier styles of hockey
so that's that's what they want to do that's what they want to come in and and try and continue to
be that and do that and hope it translates to the NHL but more often than not you're not able to
kind of get away with that at at the NHL level that you were at at lower levels so to get guys to
consistently play that way can be tough it's confusing when you get results playing that way
and then they can't consistently play that way but some nights it's it's going to be easier than
others to play that way and get that result against a Dallas stars team like this like it's hard
to do that even with them being banged up like they're still a pretty talented team and Dallas is
a really good system team it feels like no matter who they have in or out of the lineup like
they're always a threat so when they control the when they control the puck so well and force
you to be on your heels and play defensively so often it's hard to generate that offense to where
you do have to take your chances when you when you get them you can't be too selective so
I think you know they that opening period like I said like they they got off to the right foot
but then you know the the more injury like you can't you can't let anything take your foot off the
gas or or or have that you know air come out of your your sales and that's those are moments when
I think in the immediacy after the trade deadline they're going to miss having Murphy and Falino
in Dickinson and be able to have those guys who we've talked about since they've been here like
with the young players like those guys are looked at a lot as like the stability players both on
and off the ice so you don't have them anymore and and that's that's part of growing this team is
finding those guys who are going to be able to react in those moments and and and become those
stability players. We do have an injury update from Ben Pope who is in Dallas says quote not much
of an update on Oliver Moore from Jeff Lassel other than that he won't play tomorrow versus Utah so
going to miss the least tomorrow's game. I mean that's yeah not surprising didn't look great
but it's you know that's disappointing this time you never want to see anyone get hurt of course
but especially like this time of year when it's starting to turn to the youth and you're going to
it's like really the takeover well not like you hate to lose guys like that. I like how
Oliver Moore was played and it's been exciting to see him you know get the opportunity to play
up in the lineup now at center which is where they want him to play which is where he's been really
effective and after the Dickinson trade it was like okay Oliver Moore now he gets the opportunity
to be that third line center so you know him getting hurt at least missing tomorrow's game that's tough
you never want to see that for anybody but yeah especially a guy who's getting the opportunity
as a rookie to really like step in and you know find a role moving forward so that's tough but I
mean it's next man up mentality Nick Lardis is here yeah he was on the fourth line a lot of people
don't like him be on the fourth line and I don't you know I you don't want to see it come by injury
but here's an opportunity to kind of jumble the forward group a little bit and give an
opportunity to Lardis maybe up the lineup that maybe he wasn't going to get previously 1008
tonight took a penalty no shot attempts for him was credit with a hit he also was the receiving
the recipient of the four on one Hawks chance they had and the pass came to him and he just kind
of fumbled it so you know not I don't know the puck could have been rolling out or you know
we didn't get a great look at it but that was the probably the moment I noticed most from Nick
Lardis was oh man oh yeah then this kind of bubbles the puck so yeah not blaming him but it just
was it was an unfortunate moment yeah and I think you know he's he's coming up from rockford and
it's not the same team that was here when he left or when he let when he was last up here so I
can kind of understand the idea of putting him on the fourth line to not like throw him out there
and say hey go play 17 minutes or whatever in a role that you know maybe he shouldn't in his
first game back in the NHL without those stability players that we have that that I mentioned before
like without those guys around you know do you want to put him in with Manji Pani who's just
he's also trying to figure out the team right now like 12 plus tonight yeah huge minutes for him either
yeah so I get not trying to like throw him into a situation that you don't want to like overwhelm
him first game back but like I said like tomorrow's game could be you know I'm sure it'll be a
different lineup configuration and and maybe he's maybe he is up on the third line
all right before he had the breakstone got to tell you about our game day men's health game
puck nominees better father better husband better man go to game day men's health visit game
day chto.com to find the locations closest to you our first nominee is Frank Nazar who had a pair of
assists he was plus one shot on goal three shot attempts two takeaways three block shots one four
and lost six face offs aside from Tevo who was one you know he was the best face off guy in a team
that really really struggled from the face off dot today only 31% for the Hawks from the dot today
so good to see Frank getting throwing opportunities multi point games you were starting to see the speed
come back we're starting to see what we saw for early you know end of last season early this season
from Frank Nazar no starting to show up again so maybe he's finally finally getting healthy in this
one uh next nominee obviously Arvid Saarblem was outstanding uh stopped 29 of 32 shots of the Dallas
stars the fourth goal I'm sorry 28 of 32 shots on goal from the Dallas stars but um again three of
them are just kind of ones of power play two are completely fluky and even that over time one
was kind of uh the it was whipped on so I think it threw him off a little bit um so I I thought he
had a really nice game we're going to give one to counterpart to who got the game tying goal with
a minute 20 to go uh he was physical tonight there was a play where he knocked uh why a
Johnson off the puck sent it the other way lots of strong back checking from him uh 1933 two shots
on goal four shot attempts a hit a takeaway and was one and eight from the dot for 11 percent so
maybe that shoulder is not a hundred a hundred percent they probably won't be again until next
season but there's counterbredards number so get your votes in we will tell you the winner
towards the end of the show all right do his favorite hit the like button we back in two minutes

hear from Jeff Blassel and Sam Branzell here in a little bit but before we get back to the game
I want to make sure we point out um TNT who was showing Bruins and penguins as everyone wanted um
had a really nice tribute during the second intermission of that game from Darren Pang
Tony Grenado we're just sort of giving the floor to talk about Troy Murray and it was really well
done uh panger could very much really could not get through it and kind of threw it to Tony Grenado to
say please bail me out here and talk a little bit about uh Troy Murray if you missed our
pregame show we did at the first half of it was the two of us talking about Troy Murray um
obviously friend to both of us uh but if you want to hear that make sure you go back and listen
uh to our pregame show and check out the TNT thing we did retweet it I believe from the chd o black
hawks account if not it's it's definitely on the cncn also put out um a tribute video that I think
was um narrated by Darren Pang uh on social media and oh rick ball also talked about it uh on
the broadcast as well so I mean there've been tons of um kind words and stories and tributes
to Troy over the last uh 48 hours so um and they've been all just awesome yeah it's a guy who is
just you know universally beloved throughout hockey and uh you just you can see the reaction not
just of the black hawks but of people around the league are all chiming in and sending
their well wishes to the hawks as they shouldn't if you notice they had a number 19 sticker as they do
this the black circle with the white outline number on the helmet right next to the Glen Hall sticker
so uh definitely a tough year uh for hawks legends uh we've lost uh too many one is too many um and
it's been more than that this year so uh rest in peace Troy Murray we love you we miss you
um all right let's hear from Jeff Flashle who spoke after the hawks 4-3 loss to the Dallas stars
generate many shots on goal for a lot of that game uh until the end of it what what do you think uh
yeah we didn't get enough shots uh I thought we passed up a lot of shots to be honest with you
um we certainly uh I thought at times the the ice tilted uh their way on us and so then you don't
you know you're defending a little bit more than one two but uh I also thought we passed up on
some shots we got to make sure we have a good shooting Italian you have any update in Oliver
well he will not play tomorrow uh no more I think tomorrow um but he won't play tomorrow
do you feel like that took some of the wind out of the sales when he got heard at the same time as
the two of them um I don't know I actually thought early in the game I didn't think we were as
dialed in defensively as we needed to be um uh I thought we we we we actually got better at us
came along in terms of just the the kind of the the intensity and effort that you got to defend um so
yeah we go up to nothing you lose them I mean it probably hurts the bench a little bit because now
you're you're also scarce on centers at that point so you're into 11 and you're you're light on
centers a little bit so we had to juggle things a little bit um you know again there was there was
moments in the game we did some good stuff and moments we're gonna have to learn and uh
and grow and and a big part of this group the grow is understanding that you have to defend in order
to win uh in this league the six on five situations have been tough this year was there something
you guys did differently this time or just a good play by Connor uh good play by Connor you know
six on five is uh that's how it's gonna go sometimes uh what what I thought we did a good job of
is is you know being their zone we haven't spent enough time in the zone six on five so it's
that to me it's not really a setup thing it's not uh any of that stuff it's spending more time in
the zone so you get those opportunities to find the you know one goes in so uh good for us to
kind of grind back uh you know you lose a lead in the third you know I'll give our guys credit uh
we do a good job of kind of sticking with it and I thought we stuck with it and we found a way
to get a point not a chance to get to and so good for us on that and over time it's it's also
kind of been tough it do you want Rinsel to try to tie up he's gonna stick there it does he
have to hang back for the back well you got you got a three on two it's not you know um I would
just say you're gonna give that up and win in sometimes you give that up you know so um I wouldn't
overanalyze that that that three on three all right that's Jeff Blaschle thanks to the Black Hawks
for use of that video we'll hear hear from Sam Rinsel and a little bit as well and you know one
thing I'll say about Blaschle is I can't think of a single game and not that you should have today
to be clear where he has like been enraged after a game yeah I think he's can you think of one where
he was like I don't think or I don't think he does it where it comes out in the media yeah I think
it I think as far as like the emotions of like anger or whatever stuff it definitely doesn't come
out um in his in his media I had imagined if he's given it to guys or or takes that route it's
only in the room well we've seen it on the ice and yeah yeah for sure yeah within practices and
morning skates and stuff um I think he just kind of comes comes out more matter of factfully uh in
in the in the media and I I'm fine with that I don't I don't I think you can uh do a lot of damage
sometimes um going out publicly and chastising players and stuff so I message gets lost I would
I would think that he's a guy that communicates that way and he himself has kind of talked about
frustration and um the idea of like wasted emotions and stuff like that uh so I
I'd imagine he's he he tries to keep things level headed and in his approach um but yeah I think
when you when you are working with a group that is primarily young players youngest in the league
by average age right now and um probably going to be the same next season they've been younger um yeah
I mean you you gotta you gotta find a way that that your communication style can can connect with
with those guys and and you know some players uh have a more old school approach they would more
likely have a coach be in their face uh and some guys like more just hey just be direct with you
don't gotta scream and shout at me but if you're just direct and you know give me exactly what I
need to hear I'll respond to it who was I listening to I don't know somebody who saw a Rick bonus
I think it was Zacharynski um maybe it was Zacharynski just saying and I consider him a younger player
he is awesome and well into his career but he's like of the younger generation of players I would
think of him as more of a modern you know what I mean modern that's what he said was just we like
Rick bonus because we know where we stand and we know what's expected yeah and if you to juxtapose
that there was a video making the rounds this week of Craig Barubi just ripping into the maple leaves
just screaming from the bench no one's facing them no one's listening to them they've all
completely tuned to mountain and the Leafs thing is a whole other story it's a whole other
circumstance it's a whole other existence man imagine a Leafs coach ripping into their team
and knocking her response gee I wonder if should they change the coach oh yes it's gotta be it's
it's always it's always gotta be the coaches problem right well I mean that the same group of players
can't do the same things but they've never been able to do no matter who the coach is but it's just
I think that Blaschle handles it well even watching human practice if there's a mistake it is
stopped it is addressed and then practice moves on yeah there's never a get in the guy's face
beret a guy and I would have heard him say a name out loud you know hey Arty did not this this
right like a new practice yeah yeah he will directly correct a player or a misunderstanding of a
drill or the execution like how often do we see where they're doing like red versus white drills
and one of the team doesn't go touch the other boards it's not it's not to bag skate them but it
is just a consequence it is a harmless consequence they all kind of laugh about like oh come on we
didn't and then they go and they touch the board and they're back right so it's accountability it's
expectation it's communication and he's doing and I think Blaschle's done a good job with all those
things I think a lot of coaches would be tempted at this point to completely lose your minds after
so many late you know blown leads and all the things that have a lead lead and blown leads this
year and his brickball pointed out the hawks had led in six straight games coming into this one and
and you know one we know what the record is you've you've held a lead in your last six games and
you have one win to show for it yeah that's oof that that tests the patience but I mean look I hate to
keep making the point that it's a young team but it is and and there's yes there are veterans there's
Mikaev and Denato and Bertuzian Tevo and you know Grizzlyck and all that stuff guys are doing the job
they're they're doing what they can right Burkowski throw them in there too as much as people
that's a four letter word to some people but like those guys are there but they're not like
superstars and the young players are the ones that the steps forward in the maturing process is
really gonna gonna gonna bank on so you're gonna have those moments where your blowing leads or
those moments where you know you're getting hemmed in and and it's kind of down to these guys now to
kind of figure out how to get yourself out of those positions um you know when you are hemmed in
as they were tonight a lot you're getting out shot substantially um you got to find ways to kind
of turn turn the ice tilt back in your direction um and specifically when you're playing with
leads you got to figure out how to do that and not take your foot off the gas and and and you
know not sit back on a two nothing lead and not sit back on a three one lead or anything like
that like go out and you know if you like two goals go get a third if you like three go get a
fourth like that that's gonna help you win games because you you this team you're not good enough
right now defensively and in that collectively to win each game with two goals i like that they
score more yeah i like that they pushed i like that they did not quit uh you get a power you
your only power play of the game uh almost 16 minutes into the third period you don't score
but you generate some momentum and then you know a minute later you tie the game and they yeah i'll
say like they don't stop trying for the most part have there been exceptions yes where they've
just mailed it and you feel really bad about the overall commitment but for the most part
they're competing and playing that winning hockey that Jeff Blaschal was so focused on it hasn't
resulted in actual wins but the kind of hockey once this team is fully realized should lead to
actual wins um real quick want to get to a comment from uh couch potato which is up just a
little bit there secret couch potato starting all your secret couch potato so flashal knows
that this is a really inexperienced team in the youngest in a league he has to have the patience
and and i'm that is a hundred percent correct and i think that you're seeing him i wonder if
behind the scenes he's like okay the youngest team he's got i mean he's got his little stress
Oreo like Mario has or his uh what are those cubes called Chloe the stress cubes and then
needy's got his needle in his office and then he microwaves it and blows his face off and we hope
that doesn't happen don't don't like your way your needle is children yeah or adults um yeah well
i mean look like he's got a he's had to have understood the assignment when he was given this this job
and um you know it seems Kyle Davidson outside of of this unless this team had been first in the
division uh in February he was going to be selling at the deadline like he he's been very
steadfast in his approach to the rebuild in his plan and i'm sure that that was very uh well
communicated to blaschal coming in um to the job so i i think he knew he was getting a team that
was going to be going through this this process and that's been a big uh key focus for blaschal
has been the process of how you get these guys to that next step how you get them to be you know
playing the style of hockey that he that he preaches the style of hockey that he believes is winning hockey
and um you know we've seen some guys really buy into it and and get good results look at
bedard season Tyler Bertuzzi season this year like those are two guys that i think really have
benefited from buying into blaschal and and and you know there's others too um to smaller degrees
but i think those two jump off the page since blaschal has been here and hopefully it's it's and those
the two guys that are the you know the leadership group right now post trade deadline um so
hopefully it's something that you know continues to spread out uh amongst the room and and
you know especially the young guys they they get it quote unquote and then move forward
i got to hit the break zone we are painfully late for that sorry everybody i know you're waiting

to Dallas and here from black hawks defenseman Sam Ranzelle courtesy of the hawks
what do you take from that game uh yeah they're a good hockey team um you know those the game
don't see you you want to win um yeah I like how I like how we got one in the end and so
some five there and kind of was able to battle back after you know a little bend but um yeah
the six on five has been kind of a struggle this year is there something you guys were able to do
differently or just a good shot by Connor um yeah I just think you know you want to give
plugs the net and you want to have numbers with the net so um yeah good shot by him and some good
screens but why are other guys in the net front there so in overtime would you like to tie up that
guy or how would you in the line set play um yeah um I don't know you're trying to read the backside as
well so um you know it's an instance play so um yeah I mean maybe get a play a little
differently maybe not um it's a hockey play um you know it happens a lot so um you're
struggling on your goal um obviously you have nice to see it go in but then to have all of her
get hurt on the same place it's kind of a weird what some emotions right there um yeah anytime you
see a one of your teammates go down it's um it sucks and uh you know obviously hope we can get
them back soon and uh yeah for you guys on defense with Connor Murphy gone now um what what
of the basketball game has been like just trying to adjust without him and the being pretty much
all young guys have it and grizzled um yeah you know obviously we're stepping into into other roles
and and whatnot so um I just think wind immature as players and as a group and um gives the level
what do you want to go and and that's you know obviously when it's standing up it's any teams go
all and um we want to win hockey games so all right there is Sam Mrenzel and that leads us nicely
to our checking and out segments sponsored by old national bank every play matters whether it's
on the field or in your financial life the best teams win by delivering excellence at every level
old national bank where relationships and results matter remember FDIC Mario found some interesting
stats yeah I think it's it's been um a couple of a couple of games now for Sam Mrenzel back with
the Black Hawks I know it was back in February before the Olympic break but you know he did uh go
down to Rockford uh back in December but I thought it was interesting that you know those last couple
of games that he played in Chicago before going back to Rockford uh against the Golden Knights he
had nine minutes and 30 seconds of ice time against the kings and back to back games 13 minutes
and 13 seconds 12 minutes and 40 seconds and then against Anaheim his final game before coming
back in January was 14 minutes and 52 seconds since he's been back uh which his first game back
was January 30th uh 26 minutes 16 seconds 20 minutes 38 seconds 25 minutes 42 seconds 20 minutes
53 22 19 18 24 against Vancouver and then tonight 22 minutes and 20 seconds so since he has been
back uh Jeff Blaschel has been leaning on him heavily uh in the defensive rotation and you know
it's he's not perfect he's had some ups and downs in games tonight um you know the the game
winning goal tough play for him but uh I I think you know he had a really good uh game
totality in the 60 minutes and 22 seconds or whatever it was um I think he had a really
solid game he had the goal like he had a couple of good plays you know where he's breaking up
passes and he's stopping plays in transition like it's it's been it's been fun to see his
development um this is a guy that's you know ended last season at this time last year uh was
ending the season really strong playing 25 minutes a night and yeah we thought he'd never see
rock yeah making making a big impression and then started the year and it just kind of felt like
as the as the season went on it was more and more evident like all right as good as some
guys might be right out of the gate they're not immune to needing that extra development time and
he's taking it and stride and he's you know gone up gone down come back and I think he's come back
really strong um and this is now an opportunity with Conor Murphy gone like he's getting lean
down heavily so um I think tonight was a good night for Sam Rinzel all and all and uh it's just a
nut again one of those guys that you're looking at defend in the defensive group of taking those
next steps and maturing still just 22 years old maybe how old is he 21 he'll turn 22 this summer
what I want to see from him is obviously physical growth and we've talked about that with Kevin
Corchinsky a lot where we say well they've been asking to do that and he doesn't look at the
difference yeah we saw Sam Rinzel go from draft year to 70 yeah to this next year it was like a
different guy so he's got the abilities doing his best at the end of the last season I think he
said he had put on 15 pounds basically from the start of the year to closing the year and he'll
just that's a lot yeah he'll become more effective as he just you know he needs more you know yeah
to to you know fill out his frame but yeah I mean as as these guys mature these tall guys you
wanted to see them kind of not just be string beans you want them to be you know a little bit
firmer as um Andrew Sorenson would put it and be able to you know play that defensive style uh
that seems to be the most effective for NHL defensemen that are kind of measuring in at that
that height is to be able to kind of be a bit more of a guy that could play physically go into
corners play you know push guys away from the net in you know in your own zone but he's also a guy
that you know it needs the agility and the foot speed so it'll be it'll be a balance for him same
as it is for Kourchinski like those guys adding that weights you wonder how it affects like the speed
and and how they play in transition and stuff like that but again like these are guys that are 20
and 21 and 22 years old um it'll they'll figure it out yeah the other thing I want to see too
is just a little more calm when pressured right and that I think you could probably apply that to
every young defenseman not named Matthew Schaefer or Kail MacKarrow or Quinn Hughes right where
when the pressure comes at them I've seen a couple times where Samarins L just kind of bail and
just try to get the puck out I think left shove does that from time to time to he's been left
and I've been a lot better since his time out or everyone I call it like he's been way better
and way more calm and more decisive with the puck there's even a moment that I think it was right
before the hawks tied it where he kind of there was an opportunity to like maybe sneak a stretch
pass through but he took an extra stride or two and put the puck right in the tape and it made
all the difference into playing out Martinez who did a really good job today pointed that out but
just that there's been a few times where I'll see Samarins L does kind of throw a puck to an area
and there's no one in the area which is never something you want to do from your last man back
right it's one thing if you're forward is behind the net and throws it in front of the other
teams goalie and there's no one here okay fine you got people like get it but if Samarins L is
at the blue line and flips it to the center of the ice and there's no one there that's going to
lead to a chance the other way so but those are the sort of things you expect from young defenseman
and I hate to keep quoting Chris pronger but I'm going to keep doing it until people seem to get it
300 games is when you feel like you have a determination on what a guy is going to be Alex
Vlasik is not played 300 games yet 240 years he's still what over half a season away from reaching
300 yeah where you can say okay we've got a pretty strong idea of what Vlasik is now I think
I feel a pretty confident what Vlasik is but when you say over the last
10 games we've seen an element of carrying the puck up the ice from him that we hadn't really
seen before more frankly yeah like he's willing to just say I got it behind the net
effort I'm just taking it all the way and I'll go behind the I'll go behind the opponent's
goalie and see what I can do like that is a part of his game that's being added so no one on
this roster is short of Bertuzzi or Donato or Tara Vinein is fully developed that's it's that is it
so there's so much time to go and there's so much learning to happen and they're going to it
looks like next year they're going to have to learn to do it at the NHL level so more guys more
guys are going to be here that are going to need to figure out their game figure out how it
translates from the NCAA to the NHL or NHL more likely figure out how it translates from the
SHL to the NHL how it translates from the KHL to the NHL like there's going to be those times
for those guys to kind of have that period of you know figuring out the speed the pace the decision
making you know what works what doesn't what you know what can my role be for this group and
you know it's been it's been interesting kind of listening to you know people talk around the
league following the Olympics and going forward into you know thinking about this year's playoff
picture and teams that can be competitive and stuff a lot of people are are talking about the
notion of like teams that players accept their roles and when it comes to team USA like they were
a group that accepted their roles yep they didn't need to be you know I'm Vincent Trochek I'm
top lines top line of the Rangers I'm need to be top line with team like the like guys were able to
um fit into where they needed to be to be successful and I think with this Black Hawk's group
that'll be a key component of this too because think about you know where a lot of these guys that
were talking about as prospects and coming into the system are coming from their beat their
their top producers for their teams top line centers yeah you know top number one defenseman stuff
like that not all of them are going to be that in the NHL so I think it's going to be an adjustment
to where their skills and their roles are going to are going to find themselves Sasha Bovair right
now is the top line center at Boston he was the top six center at North Dakota last year like he's
been a top guy for these last a few years of his career when he gets to the NHL and NHL like he's
not going to be that so what is the what is his role going to be with front L like I think his role
should be top top guy yeah I think that's fine and and yeah just like as these guys commit Sam
Renzell are them are not like these were top guys and and right now they're you know as they've
started off their pro careers they have been asked to kind of play lower lower roles but now they're
getting as Renzell now in the last couple of games now they're getting more pushed into okay can
you play 18 20 20 plus minutes consistently see how they handle it this is like that's what's the
beauty of this trade deadline is it is a test for all these guys and I there's been some conversation
about like how active the hawks will be in the offseason I think what we see down the stretch here
is going to dictate that a lot from what these guys show Jeff Flashland Kyle Davidson how many of
these guys look ready how many of these guys look like they want to be relied on for 82 games we'll
find out that's that's what this opportunity is and can you run with it or are you gonna
falter down the down the stretch so far I think that these guys are for the most part answered the bell
and they're there have been moments of oh my god disaster it hasn't but it hasn't been
odd it's good it's good and like we saw already today like I said blocking two shots to save goals
tying up six in front of the net is the confidence grows the positioning confidence grows
then the physical confidence comes last it's all coming together you gotta be patient
all right we got to hit the brakes on one more time we're going to go to the frat house today when
we come back we also got to assign our game puck winners so if you're not voted yet get your vote

all right we are back on chtl black oxen before we go to the front house we got a question from

against the san Jose sharks it's going to be a fun one uh you're going to get lower level seats with
a forty dollar food and drink voucher included oh nice and you can come here post game and watch
us do the show you can be a trolling person yeah we're not saying but just or you can yeah it'll be
a live studio audience for for the final the post game show of the season if the hawks win will
only select trolls show up probably because there's some people over here after a lot you know
what i have an idea if they win that game the live studio audience becomes live noodle man every
one hundred every one hundred camera and win every one hundred of likes everyone has to come
come back here and do their best noodle man uh yeah now it'll be it'll be fun and before the game
there's also a pregame happy hour over at crossroads right down the street from the united center
and cross street from the offices here um yeah it's gonna be it's gonna be a good time absolutely
can't wait and yes they are family friendly even though there's the happy hour it's i mean it's
it's family friendly yeah there's more to do at a bar than just drink i've been told
that's what i've been told Chloe disagrees all right let's go to the front house
let's go it's been a while yeah well maybe not for on here we'll talk about it later all right
look i got my red cup for the front house all right our featured front boy today it's a legacy it's
however to see who's crashing his brother's front party uh dude you're 30 go away you're creeping
everybody out but we do appreciate your natty light had and the 30 pack of bush light you've
brought along awesome jobs however to see he had a goal plus three six shot attempts it's really
just an opportunity for us to talk about tower breaches because once again had a really really good
game i i was so man he was so close executing the between the legs oh man right there and i like
that alec martina said i didn't know he had that club in his bag uh yeah he he tried that
did he score i'm one of those this year he's tried it before he's tried it at least once before
this at least this year yeah yeah he he's played great all year uh scored his 20 seventh
goal of the year his career high is 30 still putting a game to go he has been dynamite this year i mean
from start to finish you want to talk about the most consistent black box it's probably been
however juicy yeah and after a season where he was hot for 15 games and then a ghost for 20 games like
uh just yeah night and day difference between him from from last season to this season and he's
really been like he said like the most one of the most consistent guys the the effort you know
you're gonna get from him game in and game out is is uh top of the charts for the team um yeah
27th goal this season uh lead leading 24th high danger goal high danger area goal of the year like
like he knows where to go to uh to score for the player that he is um you know at times this year
he's been the birthboard on the power play and then that was working for a while like he's
he's he's been great for the Hawks and and uh again like Jeff Blaschle points to him as a guy that
I think that consistency in the effort level consistency in the compete level yeah um night in
and night out is something that has caused Jeff Blaschle to point him as like that's the kind
of hockey that you guys need to play that's the kind that's the kind of buy-in and the effort level
that you need to have um within you know the the the style that he's he's preaching to play and
for twosies been been able to do it I mean uh now being as far into the season as we are it's not
surprising that Tyler Bertuzzi was a go-to player for Jeff Blaschle and Grand Rapids when they won the
call their cup and in Detroit then in the years that they that uh they were there together and he
had his career best year on Jeff Blaschle it's so funny they both downplay like oh I don't know
I don't think there's anything about the two of us it's just uh yeah I don't know and then
but all the evidence points to those two guys being like hockey soulmates it works yeah uh but
look I do think it's infectious and you see a guy who not only is he always in front of the net
not always as he's trying to win a board battle but he'll lay out to poke a puck out of the
zone or keep a puck in the zone like he is a whirling dervish man he like he is fine he throws
himself great word all over the ice he is unafraid he will he goes a hundred percent all the time and I
do think his first year here you didn't see that as much right but yeah you're seeing it now you're
seeing the investment from Tyler Bertuzzi and I think that that can kind of tell you too that you
know he's excited about being here next year right like they're probably some guys if things had
been really really disastrous this year could be looking at this and saying like man I don't want
to be here for two more years uh god this this sucks please trade me when you can I you know this
is this is miserable I think Bertuzzi is enjoying this kind of newfound role for himself and I don't
know I really like the way he's put I'm shocked by it I didn't hate the signing at the time but I
thought total you know time filler we were we were not big fans right hated the signing right right
away I thought it made a lot of sense even though you know it was like the Corey Perry signing we
were like gosh does this make sense but doesn't not vibe well right away but um you know up until
the other circumstances Corey Perry was working out here uh but yeah I mean Bertuzzi has figured
it out this year and yeah I think that's been a big help and you look at you know you see how many
guys um you know give him praise in the room for being you know a really good teammate on and off the
ice and and it's crazy because we barely ever interact with Tyler Bertuzzi in the in the media and
you know it's it's sometimes when players are like man we love we love that guy as a teammate
so on and so forth I feel like from our perspective it sometimes it's really easy to see that
because you're like oh yeah like Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Filino are both revered teammates within
that room and we've heard a thousand times more from Nick Filino than we have from from Tyler
Bertuzzi I don't know if that'll change moving forward now that it's gone and Tyler's part of the
leadership group um but I mean he might have to talk more he might have to um he might but I'm
sure he'll he'll as as it continuously has said he is who he is and stays true to himself
if even if he has to talk more I doubt many more of those uh media availability will last longer than
a hundred seconds that's fine um but that's that's that's kind of the guy he is um but as far as
like the coachy staff and teammates man they they really do like having him around so no surprise
that he's you know part of that you know the new leadership group at least to close out this season
and uh you know he's he's a he's a guy to point to on the ice of like yep that's that's what's
going to get it done if the if the if the collective group had this night in a night out from
Bertu you know levels of compete from Bertuzzi across the board like that even just the effort level
and the compete level makes a difference hundred percent all right we're going to wrap things up
but first we got to tell you about our game day men's health game puck winner with 48 percent
of the vote it goes to Connor Bedard who had the game tying goal with a minute 20 to go in this game
was throwing the body a little bit two shots on goal four shot attempts obviously had the goal uh
take away just to sell it all around game for him he had more than one hit by the way
come on guard yeah he had more than one hit he had at least one yeah he had more than one so he
is the winner of the game day men's health game puck every play matters whether it's on the field
or in your financial life the best teams win by delivering excellence at every level old national
bank where relationships and results matter member FDIC all right we'll be back tomorrow after hawks
and mammoth some things to keep an eye on we already know how overmore is not going to play
after leaving today's game spent our night to not travel with the team on this trip one game trip
fine still some interesting and kamesa was brought up
maybe he'll play tomorrow if not just your kamesa will get the start
I can't play I don't think you can either three games in four days but I think tomorrow you're
going to either drew kamesa or Spencer night at the united center yeah uh and is it going to be
another call up because of more is out and has to miss some time I don't know you got laffery
there at least laffery is there that gives you that gives you 12 or you play 11 and 7 if you're
just so hell bent on not playing sam laffery do 11 and 7 if you don't have to yeah because you have
eaten down master still sitting here yeah that's what I would do if they go 11 and 7 yeah I would be
interesting to see how they configure the forwards um but yeah I don't I don't envision them calling
anybody up we will find out 7 30 puck drop that usually means uh what 10 15-ish post game show
usually 10 15 10 30 so we'll talk to you then no good way to find out when we're on turn those
reminders on youtube and you'll be alerted when we go live we'll talk to you after hawks and
mammoth on the chgeo black hawks podcast
