Now available March 17th on PlayStation 5 Xbox and Nintendo Switch rated E for everyone.
2:42
Okay, so obviously I know this is locked on Giants and there's plenty of Giants to talk
2:47
about and it does connect to the Giants with one Logan Web, but we have to talk about
2:52
this World Baseball Classic Blunder that's going on with Mark Derosa, specifically because
2:57
Mark Derosa, if you remember, was at some point in the writing to be the Giants manager.
3:04
Now, we don't know how deep things got.
3:06
His name gets thrown around a decent bit, even though he's mostly on MLB network, but
3:12
because he does stuff with Team USA and he has been around obviously the pro game for
3:17
a very, very long time, his name always gets thrown around when there are job openings
3:22
and it did get thrown around as far as the Giants are concerned.
3:25
And Mark Derosa is in hot water, all right, because the, I almost said the Giants, because
3:30
the Team USA, they lose to Italy to give up eight runs as they lose to the Italians.
3:38
I did not see this coming from team Italy, you know, we know about the Dominican Republic,
3:43
we know about Venezuela, we know about some of these other teams.
3:47
I did not put enough respect on Italy's name.
3:51
And clearly neither did Team USA as they weren't sure what the rules were.
3:57
Mark Derosa in an MLB video that has since been taken down from MLB network.
4:03
He went on MLB network and he's basically talking about how their ticket is already punched
4:10
to the quarterfinals and they want to get some guys some work and nobody says anything
4:15
on the broadcast and I don't necessarily think it's their job to say anything.
4:19
But he goes through the next 24 hours and even prior to the Italy game says that they were
4:25
enjoying themselves the night before and guys are dragging a bit.
4:29
So it's a horrible look for Mark Derosa because their ticket is not already punched.
4:34
And if Italy does not beat Mexico, the Giants will be getting Logan Webb back because Team
4:40
USA will be out of it.
4:42
So here's the quick tie breaker scenario from the World Baseball Classic, Italy wins
4:47
versus Mexico, Italy and USA, advanced to the quarterfinals, Mexico wins versus Italy
4:52
and scores five or more runs, Mexico and USA, advanced to the quarterfinals, Mexico wins
4:59
versus Italy and scores four or less runs, Mexico and Italy advance to the quarterfinals.
5:05
So clearly there's still a number of ways for the Americans to get in, all right?
5:14
But this is a horrible look for Team USA.
5:16
It's a horrible look for a team and organization.
5:19
A lot of people have been questioning how seriously they took it to our school bull who's
5:23
up to make a bajillion dollar so we understand that.
5:26
But he says, oh, you know, I'm going to focus on what I got going on with the Tigers
5:31
and I didn't realize how much this was going to hurt me to walk away from this.
5:36
You had Bryce Harper saying, well, this isn't the Olympics and I'd love for baseball to
5:40
get back in the Olympics and I'd also would love for baseball to get back in the Olympics.
5:45
And then you put the cherry on top with Mark DeRosa not knowing the rules, literally, of
5:51
the tournament and going out there, putting out a lineup that didn't make a bit of
5:57
sense for the scenario.
5:59
And a lot of people are having think pieces on it.
6:02
It's a bad look for USA.
6:03
It's a bad look for that organization, that program, everything that they have put into
6:08
this from Aaron Judge and his pump up speech that didn't really seem to pump up a lot
6:14
of people that was going a bit viral.
6:17
So it's complete mess and with all that being said, USA can still win the whole thing.
6:21
They could still go out there with some lucky breaks, right?
6:24
I just read you the scenarios and win the whole thing.
6:27
They still have enough talent to win the whole thing.
6:29
I wanted to maybe take a little bit, just a little bit of heat off Mark DeRosa.
6:35
And that's because we've talked about this before when it comes to managers and a lot of
6:40
people, I said this on social media, a lot of people didn't want to hear it and I understand
6:45
But we don't necessarily know how much managers are doing these days.
6:49
Now I will say this with Mark DeRosa.
6:51
He did work team USA and coach team and manage team USA.
6:55
The last road baseball classics, so that's why people are saying, well, he should know
6:59
But I will say this in a lot of these scenarios, these guys are doing so much.
7:04
We don't know how many managers these days even make the lineups, right?
7:08
So the bug starts with him.
7:10
Don't get me wrong, but there's a huge possibility to me that somebody may be confirmed with
7:21
Because if that didn't happen, that's insane, right?
7:22
I think nobody in that building knew what was going on.
7:26
And unless Mark DeRosa was in there saying, hey, I did this before, we're good guys.
7:30
We got our three wins unless that happened.
7:32
And it's very possible that it happened, but we don't know.
7:35
My thought process is nobody knew what was going on.
7:38
He did a whole interview.
7:40
They went through the whole day.
7:41
He did two interviews because he did the pregame presser after he did the MLB network
7:47
And nobody thought to double check what was going on.
7:50
Or which is this is possible or somebody out there said, hey, we just need three wins
7:58
Mark DeRosa doesn't double check it.
8:00
And now because he is the head of the snake, he's not going to go out there in front of
8:04
the media and say, well, my assistant coach told me that we were good.
8:09
Number one, because he would still doesn't, doesn't help to throw anybody under the bus.
8:14
And number two, it doesn't help him because everybody would say, well, you're the manager,
8:18
I think that there is a smidge.
8:20
And I know it's not a major league baseball team, but just a maybe a little bit of picking
8:24
and choosing as far as Mark DeRosa is concerned, because we just don't necessarily know how much
8:31
I know it's not team USA, but I can't tell you how many times I had a head coach at every
8:36
level I played at, whether it's college, whether it was high school, some of all, whatever
8:41
it was, when it was time to talk about the structure of the tournament, right?
8:45
They would look towards the assistant coach and say, what is it?
8:48
We got to win one or two.
8:51
So I'm not giving Mark DeRosa a pass.
8:54
He should have known the rules.
8:56
But in so many of these situations, somebody got to know the rules and nobody did.
9:00
Heck, even MLB network, not calling them after after they get on air.
9:05
When you do a hit, right, you're on with the guys for a little bit prior to and after.
9:11
So the hit ends, they say, thank you.
9:14
There was no conversation.
9:15
Hey, Mark, you might want to double check that.
9:17
So nobody knew nobody knew and Mark DeRosa, he's the face.
9:22
He's going to have to wear all this and it's an awful look for him.
9:25
But I'm telling you, it would not surprise me if somebody in that clubhouse gave him that
9:30
information and it's on him to double check.
9:33
Now, it's very possible.
9:34
He himself said, no, no, no, guys, we're good.
9:37
That's very possible.
9:39
But he is having a very rough day.
9:41
There are people saying that he should be fired right now, which isn't going to happen,
9:45
especially if they're out of the tournament as of tonight.
9:49
If Italy doesn't get it done, I saw they had an injury to one of their starters.
9:53
So if Italy doesn't get it done, you won't have to fire them because the USA team will be
10:00
And on top of that, people are even saying if Mark DeRosa wants a job in Major League
10:04
Baseball as a manager, that's out the window.
10:07
So you talk about putting yourself in a bad situation for really no reason at all.
10:14
That's what Mark DeRosa did.
10:16
And I'm telling you right now, it doesn't really matter if somebody gave him that information.
10:21
If there was an assistant coach, whatever it was, it doesn't matter.
10:24
He's going to have to fall in the sword.
10:26
He should have, I guess, triple-checked it.
10:27
But guys, it's just for me, the idea of Mark DeRosa on the internet searching, double-checking
10:34
what the rules are, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, right?
10:38
Well, he should have went home and triple-checked.
10:41
That's a huge coaching staff, right?
10:43
So I think it's more of an indictment on the whole staff, on the whole operation versus
10:49
just Mark DeRosa, unless, and I'll say it one more time, he was running around in the
10:54
clubhouse in the dugout, saying, we're good.
10:58
On top of that, I didn't even bring up the good time.
11:01
I know they said that.
11:03
They were dragging.
11:04
They essentially celebrated clinching on some level, even if it was minor.
11:09
They celebrated clinching.
11:11
Nobody thought to double-check.
11:12
I know it's going to fall on Mark DeRosa, but nobody thought, hey, are we sure we're
11:18
Nobody did that on that staff?
11:20
This isn't college.
11:22
This isn't junior college.
11:23
This isn't high school.
11:24
This isn't summer ball.
11:27
And nobody double-checked that.
11:31
And as much as it's on Mark DeRosa, and he's going to get, if this is a blame pie, he's
11:36
going to get, I don't know, 80, 70, 80 percent of the blame, a lot of people want to give
11:42
I can't give him 100 because it's that staff.
11:45
I can't give him all of the blame.
11:47
I'll give him most of it, but I can't give him all the blame unless it comes out.
11:51
And he came out after the game and said, I misunderstood or misspoke or whatever it
11:57
He kind of said two things at once.
11:59
But again, you went out there after you, I guess, misspoke and still put out that line
12:05
And Bryce Harper was not in it.
12:07
And Paul Goldschmidt was in it against a righty.
12:09
And he has a terrible split.
12:11
Just none of it made sense.
12:13
So I'm giving him majority of the blame.
12:15
I cannot give him 100 because that staff is a staff that somebody on that on that staff
12:22
has to double-check that has to PR somebody.
12:28
You're doing hits on MLB network.
12:31
So I think it's just a colossal failure.
12:33
They could say when the whole thing, but if they don't, it's a colossal failure up
12:38
The gross is going to get all the blame.
12:41
That's what comes with it.
12:42
If they win, Mark the Ross is the man.
12:43
Maybe he gets a job as a manager in Major League Baseball, but doesn't look like that's
12:48
going to happen now.
12:50
Does not look that like that's going to happen now, which is just a fascinating zero to
12:55
a hundred real quick because just a couple of days ago, they were beating Team Mexico.
12:59
And this thing was often running.
13:01
Now, I do recall, I do recall the broadcast, somebody said, well, they didn't say it on
13:07
I recall watching the Mexico USA game and somebody saying they'll need to beat Italy in order
13:15
I remember that straight up.
13:17
So I do remember somebody saying that towards the end of the game, but clearly nobody else
13:23
At least nobody else associated with Team USA Baseball.
13:26
So Mark DeRosa, man, oh man, rough go for you, man.
13:29
I guess you should have been on Google.
13:31
I guess you should have been triple checking everything while you guys were popping whatever
13:35
you were popping and enjoying clinching.
13:37
And that's the other thing too.
13:38
What are you doing celebrating clinching the quarter final, right?
13:43
You're the favorite.
13:44
You in Japan, the two favorites to win the whole thing.
13:47
What are you doing?
13:49
And that we've got into that in baseball as well.
13:51
Oh, well, you clinch after you get a playoff spot, then you clinch each round because it's
13:56
a really long season.
13:58
And I'll go back and forth with people on that.
14:00
This is the world baseball classic is like two weeks.
14:02
What are you doing?
14:04
I don't understand that.
14:06
And I love to celebrate.
14:07
I'll celebrate anything.
14:08
But I don't really understand why you're celebrating clinching the quarter final.
14:11
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
14:13
Clinch going to the final.
14:15
I mean, that would be even different.
14:16
This am I final, but the quarter final, that's a done deal.
14:20
You want to know the biggest odds on USA getting to the quarter final?
14:23
Pretty high, pretty high.
14:26
So I don't really know what the heck they were doing.
14:30
They should have been, everybody should have been on Google themselves double checking
14:34
And that's what I don't understand about this.
14:36
Let's get to the other side back to some giants talk Caleb Killian has been balling out
14:42

17:12
Next segment with you as we get back into some Giants talk and Caleb Killian has been
17:18
balling out for the Giants.
17:21
He is a former top prospect pushing for a bullpen spot in his second stint.
17:26
This is from Alex Pavlovich, a few days after hitting 99 miles per hour in his first
17:32
cactus league game, so everybody is just throwing 99 now.
17:35
Everybody is just throwing 99 now for the Giants.
17:37
I mean, this is incredible, right?
17:39
This is incredible.
17:40
Giants pitcher Caleb Killian stood at his locker and smiled.
17:42
I woke up feeling good that day, Killian said, apparently that has been the case all spring.
17:47
Killian has seen his stock rise as much as anyone over the past three weeks showing the
17:51
kind of velocity that this bullpen is mostly lacking.
17:55
Next week, manager Tony Vitello mentioned Killian and fellow right-hander Gregory Santos
17:59
as non-Rosser invitees who had put themselves in the conversation.
18:03
Both are former Giants who have returned.
18:04
In Killian's case, he's back five years after he was sent to the Chicago Cubs alongside
18:09
with Outfield Prospect, Alexander Canario, and a blockbuster deal that brought Chris
18:15
Bryant to San Francisco and helped 107 win team, narrowly win the NOS.
18:20
A former eight-round pick, Killian had dominated AA Richmond, making him a key part of that
18:27
It's not something I was expecting at the time, Killian said.
18:29
It was kind of a whirlwind and a little overwhelming at the time, but it helped me in my career.
18:34
Killian made his debut with the Cubs a year later and briefly appeared in the big leagues
18:39
each of the next two seasons.
18:40
The numbers weren't there.
18:41
28 earn rents and 20 walks and 27 and a third innings, and he also dealt with some poor
18:47
A right shoulder strain, a sideline Killian for half of the 2024 season.
18:52
In 2025, it was a last strain, and he pitched just 15 and two-thirds innings in the minors.
18:58
When Killian hit free agency, he met with teams over Zoom.
19:01
The Giants were the last team he talked with, and he didn't need to learn much.
19:05
He was part of the same draft class as Grant McCray, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Trevor McDonald,
19:09
who has played with many of the current members of the clubhouse in the minors.
19:13
He also had some familiarity with director of Major League coaching, Frank Anderson, who
19:18
worked with two of his coaches.
19:20
The staff was the number one reason I returned, Killian said, I just believed in them.
19:24
I love all the new guys who came in.
19:27
The Giants have a reputation for keeping pictures healthy, and for Killian, that's the
19:32
He appeared in just 27 games the past two seasons across all levels.
19:36
We know with those guests, the question is, can he stay healthy?
19:40
So far it's been smooth sailing, and Killian has looked like a different guy than the one
19:43
who struggled for the cubs.
19:45
The early 99 miles per hour fastball wasn't a mirage.
19:48
He had 99.2 last Friday, and has shown a firm fastball in every spring appearance.
19:53
In five and a third innings, he has allowed just one run and five strikeouts to one walk.
19:57
I think the goal is to stay in the bullpen and just let it rip in there, Killian said
20:00
of the increased velocity.
20:02
Killian was traded at a time when the Giants had a historically good bullpen, and returned
20:06
to an organization that doesn't have many clear answers in the late innings.
20:09
He needs several pictures to break through this spring.
20:13
On Friday, Killian gave up his first run of the spring, but the rally included two infield
20:18
Vitello pushed Killian to a second inning, which surprised the right hander.
20:21
The staff wanted to see how his stuff would react to extra work, a sign of how seriously
20:25
they are taking Killian as a candidate for the opening day roster.
20:28
Vitello said he liked the way it looked, and he continues to be impressed by the 28-year-olds
20:33
demeanor on the mound.
20:35
He always has got a good heart rate, Vitello said.
20:37
I think he has a good feel for what's going on when he's out there.
20:42
My question is this, who isn't throwing 99 miles per hour on the Giants right now?
20:47
Who isn't throwing high 90s on the Giants right now?
20:50
That's my question, because it seems like everybody is balling out right now, at least from
20:54
a velocity standpoint.
20:56
You got to make sure you get guys out, but this is great stuff to hear about Caleb Killian.
21:00
I love stories like this when you can kind of boomerang and come back home and figure
21:06
You know, work even better the next time around.
21:09
So great to see and great to hear about Caleb Killian, and we are hoping that he is exactly
21:14
who he has been throughout the spring, because as we know, you can't necessarily take everything
21:19
that these guys are doing, apples to apples are oranges to oranges, but it's a dang good
21:23

24:28
Last segment with you and everyone's favorite third baseman Pablo Santaval is back in the
24:35
This from John Shea of the San Francisco standard Pablo Santaval isn't saying he's retired
24:40
knowing his love for the game and confidence that he could probably always swing a bat
24:45
We might never hear the panda utter the R word, which is perfectly okay for giants fans
24:51
Santaval will forever be hitting three home runs in a world series game catching foul
24:55
pop ups to clinch epic game seven wins and crushing pitches over his head or at his
25:00
ankles for opposite field doubles.
25:04
But Santaval who played the past two seasons for the independence that in island fairy
25:07
hawks is admitting for the first time that it might finally be time to hang them up with
25:12
his home and family in Miami and his fifth child born two months ago a boy named Samuel
25:17
he has obvious off your priorities at a certain age you step back Santaval said Monday after
25:22
reporting to Scottsdale Stadium for a week long stint as a giant guest instructor a welcome
25:28
site for players and coaches who embrace his presence and fans who snagged his autograph.
25:33
I have to decide with my wife and family.
25:35
I have been blessed and grateful to be able to play baseball, but I want to spend time
25:40
You're thankful for the opportunity to pass the torch to the young guys.
25:44
Santaval 39 has played pro ball every year since he was 17 years old in the 2004 Arizona
25:50
Ricky League after signing as a 16 year old out of Venezuela, but he said he won't play
25:55
One of his sons Liam is nine and playing ball himself Pablo can't wait to get home and
26:01
The first he'll be working with other kids in the Giants camp.
26:04
He's hoping to visit the minor league facility and get a look at the organization's top young
26:08
talent, including Luis Hernandez, the 17 year old Venezuelan shortstop who signed with
26:12
the Giants in January, the crown jewel of the latest international free agent class who
26:16
received a $5 million bonus.
26:18
It's one of the things I want to tell the young guys because it's the place you want to
26:23
What you work for and when you get the opportunity, you keep working hard to keep chasing
26:27
Santaval said some of the young guys when they get the signing bonus, they stop dreaming.
26:31
The thing I've been seeing with Luis, he's a young guy with a great baseball IQ and the
26:34
way he plays the game at that age playing with mature guys, guys playing in a higher league
26:40
and handling things the way he's handled them, he's special.
26:43
It was a different world when Santaval turned pro, not just because he received a signing
26:47
bonus of only 75 K, but also because he didn't have the luxury of being around the state
26:53
of the art Felipe Alu Academy, which opened in 2016 in the Dominican houses all the Giants
26:59
Latin prospects and surrounds them with top end coaches and trainers, many of the support
27:06
So he goes up to talk about Santaval and how tough it has been or how tough it was for
27:13
But now he's, you know, on the other side and looking to really help the younger Giants
27:20
out there, figure out their way and get exactly where Pablo Santaval was in his career.
27:27
Over the years, the Giants ceremoniously invited players back to San Francisco to retire
27:31
as a giant from JT Snow to Ryan Vogelsock to Sergio Romo asked if he'd like such treatment.
27:36
Santaval flashed a wide smile and said, you never know.
27:39
In other words, absolutely yes.
27:41
It's a golden opportunity for the Giants and their marketing team to give Santaval one
27:45
more day, something they love to do for him, Tim Lenticum and Madison Bumgarner.
27:49
Once either of those guys agree to such a thing.
27:52
For now, Santaval is perfectly content in Giants camp at three time World Series champion
27:56
wearing his familiar 48 jersey and preaching the good word about playing hard and chasing
28:03
That's just a great story, man.
28:05
Great stuff from John Shay.
28:07
So Pablo is helping out with the Giants, a guest instructor for now and obviously, you
28:13
know, he's going to get back to Miami and do whatever he needs to do, which is family
28:17
just be a family man, be there for his nine year old who's starting to do his thing and
28:21
play some baseball.
28:23
So I just wanted to throw that out there because I saw floating around and I got a chance
28:26
to read it myself last night.
28:28
Great stuff from John Shay of the SF standard.
28:30
He's always right on the money with this stuff and I think Pablo can really help some of
28:34
these guys, you know, going through what he went through and seeing how things have flipped.
28:38
I think there are some players out there that can maybe be a bit bitter.
28:42
You know, well, I didn't get to have this or I didn't get to do that and Pablo has
28:45
not taken that approach.
28:46
You know, he's happy for these kids and what they're going to be able to accomplish and
28:50
honestly, Pablo is part of that with the success that he had and other Venezuelan players.
28:55
It makes organizations want to commit and to invest even more in these facilities and
29:02
in these, you know, countries where they have things set up.
29:07
So great stuff all around and Pablo going to be a huge help at least for the time being
29:11
for some of the young players.
29:12
