Welcome to another episode of the Chicks on the right podcast.
We're pretty excited today because we have Andy Mant from BonCharge with us.
And that is one of our favorite, favorite sponsors.
Totally.
We have been happily using red light therapy products from BonCharge.
And now we're going to get all the scientific scoop about why it's so effective.
But first we want to know, like, the full backstory on BonCharge
and why the company was started and all of that.
Absolutely. Well, first of all, thank you so much for having me on.
I really appreciate it.
And thank you for being such avid fans of the brand as well.
It's been an absolute joy working with you both over the last year.
It's been fantastic.
So I guess in terms of our story, we started eight years ago.
And it was started because my wife and I were getting ready for our wedding.
And we were having problem sleeping.
We got our diet right, but we're having problem sleeping.
So we invented a pair of blue light blocking glasses that helped people sleep.
And that's how the company began.
You just wear them two hours before bed, blocks blue light, tells your body
it's nighttime, more melatonin, more sleep.
But then we, as the company evolved, we found that there were different frequencies of light
that actually did different things to our body.
And one of those was red light therapy.
So we invented a lot of different devices that can help things from treating arthritis,
to boosting collagen, to helping people heal faster,
all from Australia, which is where the company was originally from.
So that was in a nutshell our background story and why we're here today.
So what, so, okay, so blue light and red light,
can you kind of explain the difference between the two and then what they're good for?
Absolutely.
So blue light, people would have heard from, you know, two places.
You get it from natural light.
So in the day, the sky is blue, right?
So that's really important for our hormones because it helps increase our serotonin.
It helps increase our dopamine.
It keeps our hormones regulated throughout the day.
So it keeps us feeling alert and awake.
But blue light is now in artificial sources.
It's in our smartphones.
It's in our laptops, TVs, even in our fridge light and overhead lighting in our houses.
And our brain can't distinguish the difference between daylight and artificial light.
So when we put our TV on and our smartphone and our house lights on after the sunset,
when historically blue light wasn't present,
our bodies still thinks it's daytime.
So it really damages our sleep.
So we don't produce as much melatonin and we produce too much cortisol,
which keeps our stress and wired all the time.
So this is a big problem.
This is why blue light glasses come into play.
You wear them a couple of hours before bed,
and you get this amazing sleep, this amazing melatonin release.
Red light, on the other hand, is a very restorative frequency of light.
So if we think back ancestrally,
after a long day in the hunt outside,
our ancestors would have come back, the sunsets,
darkness, they would have sat round a campfire, which was red and orange light.
And this doesn't impact melatonin negatively.
It actually heals and restores.
So it keeps us in this parasympathetic state,
makes us feel relaxed and rejuvenated and allows us to sleep better.
But it was also discovered actually by NASA,
first of all, about 30 years ago,
that if you harness certain frequencies of red light and you put them say in a face mask
or in a big red light panel,
it actually interacts with our cells and helps them heal faster.
So it does things like if you've got a sore muscle,
it helps heal that if you shine the light on it.
If you are showing signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines,
and you shine red light on it,
it actually helps reduce the appearance of those.
If you have joint pain like arthritis and things like that,
you shine the red light on it in the therapeutic benefits,
in therapeutic doses,
and it helps to heal that area as well.
So it's starting to become this red light,
it's this amazingly studied frequency of therapeutic light.
And it's been so important that the FDA have even classified it as proven
to help with joint muscle pain as well,
and boosting collagen.
So yeah, it's seriously good stuff.
So there's, I mean, I see advertisements for all kinds of different companies
that have red light therapy.
But so explain to our audience,
because we talk about bond charge all the time.
So explain to our audience how your red light therapy
or blue light therapy for that matter,
those products are different than what they might see with other companies.
Absolutely. And this is the thing,
when something is proven and you get a lot of people opportunists
that jump on the band-mark and going,
I can make some quick money out of that.
I can market it, get a product from China
and just sell it online.
Like anyone can do that.
We take things a little bit more seriously at bond charge.
We're about helping humanity.
We want people to have the best optimal products.
Like I'm a biohacker, which is someone that optimizes my biology,
100%, I don't want to do it 99%, I want to do it 100%,
and I want to then give those products to the world.
We've actually have, and we are the only red light therapy brand,
that has a scientific advisory board.
So we have six PhDs across London,
Denmark and the US, that sit on our board
and they put the input into our product.
So we don't launch any product,
unless they've had a scientific say,
they're independent, impartial,
and they will say, you can't say this,
you can't say that.
If you want to say this, you have to put this in it.
This irradiance isn't high enough,
and all that technical specification stuff.
So that's super important.
We want it to be science-backed and proven.
We have two PhDs in our product development team in Sydney.
So there's staff that work with us,
and they go through all the studies
and make sure that our masks are doing exactly what they say.
Because the FDA set parameters right,
of saying you need, you know,
your red light face mask can help with collagen
and fine lines and wrinkles,
but it needs to meet certain specifications
for it to be FDA-cleared.
So we make sure that those are in there
exactly as the FDA would prescribe.
So we make sure that it's in line
with the regulatory bodies and the science.
Now, the other thing as well is
we're not about inventing brand new products.
We kind of like one of my heroes is James Dyson,
and he made like the vacuum cleaner much better.
He made hand dry as much better.
We're about optimization.
So these products will be all over the place,
but we take them and go,
why are they only 90% optimal, 80% optimal,
whatever it may be, and how do we make them 100%.
So let me give you an example with our red light face mask.
We had a dermatologist involved in the creation of that,
where we actually had her look at the face
and where the major signs of aging appear,
and we positioned our LEDs exactly in line
with those problem areas.
We also have the most LEDs present in our mask.
So if you think about it,
if you're trying to get a facial treatment
to reduce signs of aging and you're missing half the face,
you're going to have a sort of half a young face,
half an older face, which is no good.
And we also independently test all our masks
for something called electromagnetic radiation.
So things like Bluetooth, 5G,
or Teelectric, these are all bad for us at a cellular level.
And a lot of companies don't look at that.
They just kind of go, whatever, let's just do,
we're not even test it.
So we independently test to make sure
that there's no harmful radiation coming out of these arm
masks, which could damage the cells.
Because otherwise you're going to be getting red light therapy,
getting lovely healed cells,
but then damaging them with dirty electricity
and electromagnetic radiation.
So those are the big scientific parameters
that we put into place with our red light therapy devices.
That's awesome. So I, okay, so I've seen like far infrared,
near infrared, I don't, what is all that?
What does that mean?
I know. It's such a good question.
Because it comes up so often.
And unfortunately, this is going back to the last question, right?
So so many, so many companies out there
that don't really know what they're talking about.
They just see this product trending
and just think they can market it.
But there's a very distinct difference
between red light, near infrared light and far infrared.
So two of them make up what you call red light therapy.
And that's visible red light.
So you can see it. It's the color red.
And near infrared light, which is an invisible frequency.
Now they're what you find in the face mask.
Now what they do is red light penetrates at a skin level.
And it activates more energy in the skin,
which allows the cells to do what they're supposed to.
So the cells in your skin are supposed to produce collagen.
So activate fibroblast, you produce more collagen.
Red light does that at the therapeutic level.
Now near infrared light penetrates deeper
into the muscles and the joints.
And near infrared light then allows the cells
in the muscles and joints to repair and restore.
So swarm aching muscles and joint pain.
Now far infrared light isn't red light therapy,
but it does have benefits.
So I'm sure you guys and your audience
would have used an infrared sauna.
So you go to a sauna, there's no colds.
It's just light that penetrates the body
and it heats the body from using light rather than colds.
And what this does is this helps detoxification,
lymphatic drainage, it helps you burn more calories
and improve your heart rate variability,
which is your body's ability to deal with stress,
which is fantastic.
So that isn't found in a red light face mask
or in red light panels.
That's found in an infrared sauna.
So all three red, near infrared and far infrared
all have very different impacts on the body,
albeit very positively.
That is so informative.
It's super helpful.
But then there's also pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.
Like there's so many things to try to keep straight.
So what's that one all about?
Yeah, this one's really cool.
So this is where red light,
this product is where red light was maybe five years ago.
Not many people have heard about it
and it's in the biohacking space.
And we're starting to see it grow massively.
Like hundreds of percent every year in the last three years.
This is this technology is growing.
Again, it's rooted with NASA.
So what PEMF is,
so pulsed electromagnetic field therapy,
is it takes energy,
natural frequencies of energy
and it pulses them into the body.
So the earth has its own rotation magnetic field
which helps reduce inflammation.
So when you walk Betha on the ground,
that passes through the body
and it reduces inflammation.
There's been sort of like EMG scans
that show the brain lighting up
Betha versus wearing shoes.
That's the whole grounding thing.
Correct, exactly that, exactly that.
Now this, what this does is it pulses
those frequencies into the body.
And our cells in the body are always looking to conserve energy.
So they mimic what's around you.
So let me give you an example on the juxtaposition of this.
If you go into a busy supermarket,
loads of screaming children running around,
you start to feel stressed.
That's because energy is being mimicked externally in your cells.
And the same works if you go and say into a spa
and you start listening to spa music,
you start to feel calm and relaxed.
It's because we're all energy.
Well, the table's energy, your hat's energy,
our body's energy, everything is energy.
And PEMF takes natural energy
and it pulls it into the body for various things.
So for instance, if you want to sleep better,
your brain starts to produce delta waves,
whereas you can dial into that by using PEMF.
So your brain mimics them quicker,
so you get deeper sleep and fall asleep faster.
You can start to, if you want to be more focused,
you can start to put more alpha waves into the body.
So the stale start to mimic those
and you start to become more productive and more into flow state
if you want to do a big, deep piece of work.
So this is where PEMF's coming in.
And it's also been shown to help with joint recovery.
So if someone has a joint fracture,
studies have shown that 13 to 30 hertz of PEMF
actually starts to heal bones quicker.
And the way that works is that when a bone breaks,
the electromagnetic field between the two,
temporarily weakens.
So for them to heal,
the EMF has to basically be talking more strongly.
So pulsing electromagnetic field therapy into that area
has actually been shown to heal bones faster
by restoring the communication pathway
between the two fractures.
So yeah, it's a super new technology,
but there's been so many studies
that are showing how amazing it's been.
And again, I wish more conventional doctors
and orthopedic guys,
because I just broke a wrist back in December, right?
This is the thing, but this is the kind of stuff
I wish there was more of a marriage
between conventional medicine and this,
because I would have benefited greatly from that.
You know, that would have been amazing.
I know.
More than just because my face is like,
I use it for my face.
I use it for my body,
but I mean, like using it just for that therapeutic benefit,
it's just, I wish there would be more of a marriage
between the two.
I think it's just fantastic,
because that's wonderful.
Yeah, I completely agree with that.
Unfortunately, the mainstream sort of medical establishment
takes a little bit of a while to catch up with things.
Yes, it does.
Yeah, this is what biohacking is very good.
We do all the human experiments ourselves
and look at the studies,
but then it takes a while to feel to through.
But I think, you know, it's great at the moment
for America having RFK in the position.
Yes, totally.
You know, he's a great guy.
He's, you know, we followed him and spoken to him
for the last sort of eight years on what he knows
about health and wellness.
And I'm sure he uses all of this stuff.
Yeah, absolutely.
He absolutely does.
Absolutely.
Well, Andy, we so appreciate learning about all this,
because these are the kinds of questions
that, you know, don't often come up
just when we're talking about your products in general.
We're always just kind of oon and owing about results,
but not understanding like how we get there.
So thank you for all of that.
Where can people learn more about you and about bond charge?
Well, definitely your podcast.
So that's a good place.
But if they want to come and learn a little bit more,
bondcharge.com is the best place.
So we have, as we said, scientific advisors.
They're involved in our content writing as well.
So everything is backed by science.
So come and take a read on there.
We have our Instagram bond charge underscores.
You can check out some good content on there.
But we have a lot of people talking about our products as well.
So, you know, people that are listening to your show,
maybe listening to the likes of Dan Bungino
and JPC's another good one, a satirical comedian.
Those guys have used our products for five, six years
and rave about them on their shows as well.
So, you know, there's some great,
great people out there talking about this stuff as well.
But yeah, I think that's probably the best places
to hear from us and understand a little bit more
about what we're trying to do.
Bondcharge.com, correct?
Yeah.
Well, thank you so much.
Appreciate it.
Awesome.
Thank you guys.
I really appreciate your time and thank you for having me.
