My name is Ian Blaubert, also known as At Maybe It's Ian and I'm joined as I always
0:51
in by Laura Saba, also known as the Actor Stick.
0:54
Laura, we're here on a Friday night which we usually don't record.
0:57
We don't publish episodes on Saturdays but when the playoffs are here, Laura, what does
1:00
Marty say we have to do?
1:02
We elevate our game.
1:03
We elevate our game and we're here for you.
1:05
It'll be a quick bonus episode just so we can get our feelings out of us after the Montreal
1:10
Canadiens win three to two in overtime in game three at the Bell Center, an incredible
1:15
atmosphere for that hockey game and they take a two to one series lead into game four
1:21
Laura, what do we do with any of that?
1:24
That was just, I'm so glad I got to go to games at the Bell Center this year and fully
1:28
understand what that kind of moment is like.
1:32
How are you feeling after that?
1:35
Honestly, I don't know because obviously during the game it feels like you're going to die,
1:42
Every shot, every penalty, every hit, everything just makes you kind of spiral.
1:47
I just feel like the fans really brought it.
1:52
Obviously Kirby Doc redeemed himself and then some in tonight's game, I just sometimes
1:57
I look at this team and I think I can't believe these guys are our team and Lane Hudson is
2:04
just one of those guys and I have to say like it seems extremely cruel, but the price
2:09
you pay for being good and for keeping toe to toe with one of the best teams throughout
2:13
the regular season is in having to play that team and then having to go to overtime and
2:17
having every game be close, even though I will say that for the first period and the third
2:22
period, the Montreal knees were far superior to the Tampa Bay.
2:27
Even most of the second period, Tampa scored in like the first five minutes and then you
2:31
look at the money puck chart of like the shot attempts.
2:34
It was a flat line for Tampa for the rest of the period.
2:38
Like Montreal really stepped up.
2:40
I'm really happy with the effort that we saw also like Lane Hudson becoming a shooting
2:46
Goals from the blue line, which is just like if you told me that last year that well
2:51
next year in the playoffs, he's going to uncork to from the blue line.
2:54
I'd be like, that's not happening on like the, the, the best in a favorite, that's
3:00
I'm like the tallest goalie that has ever lived in Andre Vazelowski.
3:04
What I really loved about that goal was a couple of things one bulldog forcing eternal
3:09
He was an animal in this game, taxi A, buying time down low, right?
3:15
He didn't force a play.
3:16
He looked for the right look.
3:17
He waited for his guys to get in front of Vazelowski because by the time the puck got to
3:22
Hudson at the point, you couldn't see, you know, if you were looking at the camera from
3:26
the other end, you couldn't see Vazelowski.
3:28
He couldn't see a thing that happened.
3:29
It was by him before you knew what happened.
3:31
That's how you score in the playoffs were guys.
3:35
That's it was the magic bullet man like that's that's those are the things you have to do
3:40
Hey, let's, let's, um, let's talk about Kirby dot quick.
3:44
Just maligned after the first after game two, um, wore the goat horns, as I'd say, um,
3:49
he, he bounced back in a significant way.
3:53
And I think when you get the vote of confidence that he got from his coach, you kind of owe
3:58
it to your coach to do that.
4:00
And Kirby doc did not disappoint.
4:02
He has a goal in this one.
4:03
He had an assist on the first goal, not to overshadow it, bold look on the first goal.
4:08
He knocked down the, the doc passed at knee high.
4:12
And then in the same motion just passed it over to taxi.
4:15
Like that, that's the key.
4:16
It's fourth line pulling off some really slick plays, um, the entire night that are you
4:25
Um, but I like, I don't know throughout this playoffs, have you been looking at certain
4:33
I know we're going to talk about armors.
4:34
I kind of bit like these guys being like are these the same people like when you talk
4:38
about elevating your game and almost everyone's elevating your game and I do have something
4:42
to say about the first line a little bit later, but, um, everybody's, but these guys are
4:45
doing it like, you know, double triple, like quadruple, what, what we are expecting.
4:51
And I think for me, Buduk has been a revelation this prior series.
4:56
Yeah, especially, especially game three game three was that lines coming out party.
5:00
They were spectacular, um, you know, we were, we were tough on Kirby doc.
5:04
We've been tough on Kirby doc.
5:06
But that, that comes with the territory of having to do a show like this, right?
5:11
Like we, I don't feel that we ever get personal with it.
5:13
We certainly try not to, um, but like hearing the bell center cheer chant Kirby, after he
5:20
got a secondary assist, yeah, should go to tell you how much it matters to fans that you
5:26
show up when, when you need to show up, they, they, they, they get mad at you when you
5:31
When you do it right, there's no better place on the planet to play and sat, and I almost
5:36
called it a Saturday.
5:37
It certainly felt like one Friday bell center proved that, uh, in spades for the Montreal
5:42
Canadians and their players, um, any final thoughts on that before we move on?
5:46
Uh, honestly, I just want to say like it felt like an incredible, um, like game three.
5:52
I can't imagine what game four is going to be like now that you're up to one in the
5:56
They're not deflated.
5:58
So I honestly, I can't wait to hear the bell center on Sunday night.
6:03
All right, let's leave that there.
6:04
When we come back, let's talk about Arbor Jacques, who was phenomenal again in ways that
6:10
are really just difficult to understand the Montreal Canadians can mine cannot comprehend
6:15
what we are seeing from Arbor Jacques, I right now, and we'll get into that just a minute
6:18
year on locked on Canadians.
6:24
Weddings, trips, rooftop hangs, basically a lot more photos getting there.
6:28
And if you wear glasses like me, you're wearing them at all those moments.
6:32
So if you don't love your frames, you'll feel it pretty quickly.
6:35
That's where Warby Parker helps out.
6:36
They've completely changed how easy it is to find glasses you actually like their virtual
6:41
Let's you see how frames look on your face right from your phone.
6:44
Just point your camera and you can try on tons of styles in real time.
6:48
I was able to try a bunch of different styles virtually and I feel confident in what I chose
6:52
before ordering because I get to see it.
6:54
What it looks like on on my face.
6:56
Honestly, for the price, it's hard to beat.
6:57
Prescription glasses start at just $95.
6:59
So you're not sacrificing style or quality just to get a good price.
7:03
Warby Parker glasses start at $95 and include prescription lenses with anti-reflective scratch
7:09
And my favorite part, Warby Parker locations offer comprehensive eye exams starting at
7:15

8:20
I don't know what's gotten into Arbor Jack, I just it feels like he has the mightest touch
8:26
right now, doesn't it?
8:27
Like every, every move he makes with the puck is the right one.
8:31
He's skating the puck out of danger in really effective ways.
8:35
Like every once in a while, I just feel like he has so much physical momentum on his side.
8:42
He just kind of puts the he's moving up the ice of a guy comes towards him.
8:45
He kind of just throws his arm off and like just let's his hulking body protect the
8:51
What have you liked about Arbor Jack guy's game really since the playoffs started?
8:53
Honestly, the decision making, it's been incredible, right?
8:56
And we've always known that there's a good defenseman in there.
8:58
I'm not about to sit down and tell you that he compares to a Mike Matheson or to a
9:02
Lane Hudson or a No Adopson.
9:04
That's not what we're saying, but the decision making has gotten so much better.
9:08
And I wonder if it's a Marty thing or not, right?
9:11
Like he spent a lot of time in the press box this year.
9:14
He did not show frustration, which I'm sure he is frustrated.
9:17
Every single player wants to be playing, nobody wants to be sitting in the press box.
9:20
And I am certain that the coaching staff talked him through it all, right?
9:24
Like this is what you need to be doing.
9:26
This is what we're expecting.
9:27
But I think for me, like, and I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like the moment that
9:32
they played him at forward, I think honestly, like it changed the way that he saw it in
9:39
that like if I want to be valuable to this team, I need to change the way that I play
9:43
in the ways that they want me to, right?
9:47
But I think you're right.
9:49
It's like he knows that he has to do what it takes, but what it takes is that he's been told
9:54
He's something, right?
9:55
Like he's a tough guy.
9:57
But we've always known there's talent there.
9:58
Why did the Canadians grab him?
10:01
Why do we get frustrated with him?
10:03
Like, you know, we're doing an Arbor Jacques, like positive episode because we've done so
10:07
much criticism of him.
10:08
And I really think it's because he has spent his entire life being told he's a thing
10:13
and not realizing that he has these other things to offer.
10:16
And I think that day, it gave him that idea that he has these other things to offer.
10:20
Obviously, he's helped by the fact that there is an injury, there are crucial injuries
10:26
So, you know, it's going to be a very tough decision, what happens when no adoption is
10:31
But right now, I think that every game is making him better because he's getting more confident
10:35
in his own abilities.
10:37
And just the idea that he can do these other things.
10:40
I think it's just, it's brought out a whole new player at him.
10:44
And I do want to say one thing too.
10:45
I know we're talking about the top line and we are a little bit worried about it.
10:49
We're going to talk about it in our full length episode on Monday, depending on what happens
10:53
on the Sunday night game.
10:54
Like, it's definitely something that we do need to talk about, particularly since John
10:58
Cooper stole Marty San Luis' trick and with the hard matching.
11:04
But I will say that, you know, he's also been playing with the best players on the team,
11:10
A lot of shifts alongside Strubel behind that top line.
11:14
And I think that he's picking things up.
11:16
I think that they're helping him and he's kind of making up for what they're not doing.
11:23
He also just like having a third pair you can trust means that you don't necessarily need
11:29
to lean on the mathisins as hard, right?
11:33
Down the stretch, definitely.
11:34
Like that's just what coaches do.
11:35
They shorten their bench when times get tough when things are extra critical.
11:40
But Jack, I played 10 minutes at five on five in this hockey game, which doesn't seem
11:45
But when you consider that a lot of this was played on special teams, like, that's quite
11:49
And in that, he was 84% of course he for.
11:53
So like, that's just, again, when we came into the series, that was one of the biggest
11:59
How are they going to match up?
12:00
And on the road, they were great.
12:02
And first came back to the belt center, they were excellent.
12:06
They were, they were so, so, so good.
12:08
Like, which is just so, I'm just.
12:10
Of the things that have surprised me in this series, the top line getting skunked at five
12:14
on five is certainly one of them.
12:16
But this is more surprised that this pair has decided we're going to be the best NHLers
12:21
we've ever been, which is just, it's really great news for the rest of the team.
12:25
All of that stuff rolls up hill.
12:29
And honestly, I just, I can't believe these are our guys.
12:32
I think I can't believe this is the team I'd dare for.
12:35
Yeah, it's really, really just incredible stuff.
12:37
Hey, before we go, game, game four predictions, what do you got for game four?
12:43
Hopefully not another overtime, man.
12:45
It's going to be tight.
12:46
It's going to be three, two or two, one, and hopefully not another overtime, but I cannot
12:50
see the Montreal Canaanis playing this well for three games and not winning that one.
12:55
I am predicting a multi goal lead for the Montreal Canaanis, which is doesn't sound like
12:59
I'm predicting much, but considering we are, we're three games into this series.
13:03
And neither team has had a multi goal lead is this.
13:07
For me, I know we're biased.
13:08
We're habits friends.
13:09
We're live and large with this series.
13:10
This is the best series in the playoffs right now.
13:14
Like the games are close.
13:15
These guys hate each other.
13:16
It's awesome watching these, these two guys go, you know, these two teams go at each
13:20
It's a great hockey.
13:22
This is what we expected to see from some other matchups.
13:24
We're not getting that.
13:25
We're getting it here.
13:27
And I will say one thing though.
13:28
I know it's very short because LA is almost out, but that Colorado LA series has been
13:32
really good to honestly.
13:33
I haven't caught much of it because it's on so late and my brain is just fried at the
13:36
end watching this emotional roller coaster every other night.
13:40
I'm so jealous of neutral fans because I feel like I'm going to die every single game.
13:43
So that was why like when your team doesn't make the playoffs, the playoffs are actually
13:48
You can just like, it's when you're actually a hockey fan and not just a fan of a team,
13:51
you're like, ooh, I can just, everything, it becomes a buffet every night.
13:54
You're like, ooh, I can get a little bit of that.
13:55
I can have this on a second screen.
13:56
Like it's just, yeah, yeah, I, I'm very jealous of those teams, but hey, not so jealous
14:01
because much of Canadians are up to one on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
14:04
And I've played some really incredible hockey in that stretch.
14:08
We'll leave trivia for our next episode.
14:09
We don't want to leave out the people who might have missed the bonus episodes.
14:11
We'll bring that back from Monday.
14:14
And we'll be back with you guys then after, after game four.
14:18
So for, for, for Laura Sabah, I am Ian Boavair.
