The Boston College Coaching Search looks like it's down to two candidates.
One of these has to be the answer, and I'm going to explain who it is.

On today's show, two football visitors worth monitoring.
The one candidate I don't want for BC Basketball in Jay Laranaga or Luke Murray.
I'll talk about that right now. Let's kick things off.
We are now entering week three of the BC Basketball Coaching Search.
And just like everything with BC Basketball, BC Athletics takes while.
This is not a team, this is not a program that is known to get decisions quickly.
I mean, every coaching search seems to take three to four weeks.
It's just the way things work.
That's the way that their process works.
We're not a destination school like, you know, a Tennessee or Texas
where you have one guy and you just know it.
You grab them and they are done.
You do searches and it's a very low, slow and methodical process.
And so over the search coaching search,
we've seen a lot of names pop up.
And the pool has begun to shrink.
Gary McNamara was just hired by Syracuse yesterday.
We have not heard anything about Joe Gallo in a while.
Names like
Yukon assistant Kamani Young and James Jones.
Those names are kind of faded to the background.
And really, in my opinion,
two names have really emerged with a third that's kind of lingering.
And a fourth that we'll talk about in segment two that I don't want.
So the two that are still the names are hearing the most
is Jay Laranaga and Luke Murray.
Jay Laranaga is the assistant coach.
If you've listened to the show,
assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers was with the Celtics,
the son of Jim Laranaga,
the legendary head coach at Miami.
Obviously, there's a connection with Blake James there.
And if you were listening to anything on social media on Friday,
you had people like Kevin Stone and some other people saying,
it sounded like Laranaga was going to be the guy.
It looked like he was going to be the hire.
And as I sent out to my every day or club earlier this weekend,
I saw that the infamous poster BC Bob on Twitter.
BC Bob has been a guy that a lot of folks go to during coaching seasons
because he seems to know some stuff.
It's just been wrong a whole lot too,
but I'm not saying that.
He nailed Bill O'Brien and he nailed Greg Brown as well.
But he was saying that pen to paper had already happened
or that this was essentially done.
Now, surprised to see that on Saturday night,
the Clippers are playing the Mavericks.
And if it was done, I don't expect I would have seen Jay Laranaga
on the sideline as the Clippers lost to the Mavericks on the road.
I mean, stranger things could happen.
I mean, he could have had another day or whatever.
I don't know that, but to me, that does not strike me that he's the coach
because if he was the coach and they signed him,
I would imagine he wouldn't have been on the sideline.
And I'm 95% sure that was him.
Now, Luke Murray is the name that's buzzing more and more.
And I know a lot of folks really want him.
Mike Silly, who write for Eagle Insider, my site,
was talking to some people he knows
and I know mutual sources that we have.
And the name that's coming up more and more now
is Yukon Assistant Head Coach Luke Murray.
Now, Luke Murray has been part of the national championship teams
for Yukon.
He's the big recruiter for Dan Hurley.
Like, he is a very well respected guy.
And to get Luke Murray, you would have to really push the program forward.
Like, if you just went to a Luke Murray and said to him,
we're going to just, you know, we'll give you the revs, full revs, sure.
And that's it.
Luke Murray would have said, buy and went, wait for another job.
Like, that's not going to happen.
So if Luke Murray is the target
and honestly, I'll tell you a second why, I think it might be him.
If he's the target, BC has then has to have moved forward with,
we're going to put more money into this program.
We're going to push forward with more NIL money or a guarantee
that this roster is going to have more money put into it.
And that's a win-win right there.
You're getting a guy that was one of the biggest, you know,
exes and oh guys for Dan Hurley.
You would get a guy who obviously was,
I believe was his lead recruiter too,
has a history with Louisville.
He's a history all over the place.
And more money, that is the kind of ball you want to roll.
Now, the question is, is he the guy?
Now, here's why I don't think it's Larinaga right now.
I mean, it could be, but this is just my guess right now.
Larinaga, you could hire last week.
If you wanted Jay Larinaga and he was your number one guy,
you would have hired him by now.
That would have been it because there's no,
you're not competing against anyone as far as I can see.
Providence just hired the USF head coach
and they were the only other team I've seen mentioned with him.
Like if you wanted them, you would have had him.
But now we're going into week three,
which means to me, the Tilly show to me,
they're waiting on somebody.
They're waiting on someone to either make a decision
and that's a little scary
or they're waiting for them to announce it.
So it's not a distraction in whatever tournament they're in.
So to me, that's Luke Murray.
Luke Murray on Sunday night is playing in the end,
they're not playing coaching in the NCAA tournament
for Yukon.
I could totally see that they want to wait as long as they can
if it's Murray to make an announcement.
Like you want to like respect Hurley
and his whole thing and the team that Murray's worked for.
That would be the perfect opportunity.
And I got to say this,
before the decisions are even made,
if you would ask me,
what grades I would give you, Tire?
Jay Laranaga, I would give a C plus.
There's just a lot of questions with him.
I don't hate the hire, but I think it's average, right?
Like he has done a whole lot.
I don't know what he would do.
I mean, you know what the most frustrating part
is a content creator?
There's no pictures of him anywhere.
Like I'm making all these videos and graphics.
I can't find pictures I can use
because he's just not a name, no one,
anyone really photographs this small problem for me.
But look, Murray is a highly regarded assistant
who has a deep rooted history with some big names,
you know, at Louisville and at Yukon.
He's been a big part of that Yukon team
that was and still is an absolute juggernaut.
He has roots in the Northeast.
He's an up and coming coach.
He would be an A, A minus for me.
The only other one and he's been my guy all along
and if he's still floating around all the power to him
is Eric Olin.
He would be an A as well because I just think he's awesome.
I think he'd be a great coach too.
So he's an A, you know, and then, you know,
if you're talking other coaches that have been floating around,
guy like Jerry McNamara,
who is someone that apparently they interviewed B minus
Joe Gallo C plus, like it goes down like that.
And then in our second segment,
I'll give you the one that would be a big fat F
and I'll tell you who that is in just a moment.

I'm going to give you some recruiting news.
You will not want to miss.

Locked on Boston College AJ black of Eagle insider.
Thank you all who have joined us.
And thank you for making us part of your daily routine.
I've been hosting the show for over decade for over five years.
I'm covering Boston College for over a decade.
And in that decade, Boston College basketball has been a joke.
It's at its moments where it's been slightly less than a joke.
But it's never been the, it's never hit the epoch that it had.
When you had Jared Dudley, when you had Tyrese Rice, when you had Craig Smith, even the bill,
like it just has not had the success since Al Skinner left.
Now, BC has another chance to make a coaching higher and not screw this up.
But one thing that I've learned with BC sports is that it's hard to not trust
that this program will not screw this up.
So when I heard this name floating around again, I got a real big lump in the back of my
throat and said to myself, okay, looks like we're not talking about BC basketball
on a consistent basis for the five years of the high of this guy.
And that's John Becker of Vermont.
Now, I've alluded to this before, but John Becker is 61 years old.
He's coached at Vermont for most of his career.
And yeah, he's won at Vermont, which is nice.
It's Vermont. He doesn't have to recruit in Vermont.
He has no idea, like nothing he does on the court right now shows me anything that I want
for BC basketball, like he's won and that's great.
Vermont's actually been kind of going on the downhill though.
He's also 61 years old.
You really need a 61 year old career coach.
Like facelifts, getting a guy with that kind of history is not what this program needs.
So don't and I just hope this is John Becker's lawyer.
I mean, I'm agent that's putting us out there and not an actual BC connection,
but this seems to be a lot of smoke with him.
So I really hope this isn't the case.
There's plenty of other coaches that you could overpay that could still stink,
but don't have that baggage.
Go higher Joe Gallo.
I could at least root for him.
He's a fun coach.
He's winning.
You could pay him more.
Get him in here.
He's a young coach.
Fine.
Get Joe Gallo.
Go get, you know, one of the Jones brothers.
They're older too, but at least they won and they're not sleaze bags.
And you know, they don't have sleaze bag accusations against them.
And again, I'm not getting into the accusation.
Just Google it.
John Becker does not need to be in this conversation at the end of the day.
This better be, you know, this better be Luke Murray or Jay Laranago or Eric Olin.
If we're if we're if we're really thrown around house, house money here.
I am so irritated that this is a name that's being brought up because the this is,
this is the complete opposite of what BC needs.
BC needs a product you can root for with a coach that you root for.
I mean, Earl Grant, say what you will about like his on course stuff.
Nice enough guy.
Like you didn't like hate him personally like you hated what he did on the court.
But like you wanted to see him winning because he seemed like a good dude.
The Becker stuff.
I don't see any of that.
Like I feel like we're just going to hit fast forward on a couple of years when we fire him anyways.
So like, please don't.
If it takes you another week to find somebody else, take your time.
If like you, if BC has struck out on Laranago, which I can't believe they would.
Or Luke Murray, which again, I think they could still get him.
Then wait, don't hire John Becker.
BC fans don't need this.
This is just another nail on the coffin on a dead program.
Like this would be an absolute disaster.
The more you read up on this, the worse it makes it seem.
So no, do not hire John Becker.
This is the one candidate.
I do not want to boss to college.
Please, please, please blade change if you hear this.
Think about the fans.
Think about what they're going to think.
You can't polish a turd right here.
You do not need this.
In a moment, let's talk a little bit about football recruiting.
This BC football had a big visiting weekend.

The board is set.
The flavors are ready.
I've got my number one pick for the five hour energy flavor draft.
I've been diving into the strawberry banana more like more recently.
Listen, I love the smoothies.
I love the milkshakes of strawberry banana.
So when I heard that five hour energy made one.
I had to try it.
It's going to sweet strawberry flavor up front with a soft mellow banana finish.
Listen, the banana flavor is just subtle enough.
It's perfect.
It's got a smooth creamy fruit profile.
And it tastes like a fruit smoothie.
How you going to beat that?
So when I am tired.
When I need a boost.
When I've been working my day job.
And then I got to go do my podcast and do some writing.
I get my five hour energy shot.
And I love strawberry banana.
And I think you will too.
Five years.

And I want to tell you about some recruiting news.
Sometimes we dabble on the recruiting.
I want to hold tirade yesterday.
About recruiting.
Speaking of tirades, let me get back to John Becker for a second.
Listen, if John Becker is hired.
You're going to get more tirades and anger for me than you've ever heard.
So that's a warning.
That's not a promise.
It's not a warning.
It's a promise to quote Paul Paul Paul.
Paul Haven.
Sorry.
I I was I'm so fired up about this.
I do not want that to happen.
Anyways, back to recruiting.
Sorry.
Give me sometimes you get me so angry.
That one got me.
So BC had quite a few visitors.
And you can go check them out on Eagle Insider this weekend.
All with major offers.
One name that came in.
That is going to immediately vault to the top of my name.
Names list.
Is a guy with.
Possibly the best name that BC has.
Recruited sense spiffy Evans.
And it's a linebacker from Milton Georgian named Blaze Pataglia.
Now Blaze is a six.
Six feet tall wide linebacker.
Who's dad played at.
You that Louisville and also played with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Blaze has offers from.
Trying to pull up his office list Maryland East Carolina Georgia State Buffalo.
Well, he was on visit this weekend and got an offer from the Eagles.
And I'll tell you a little nugget here.
He's going to take an official visit.
So this is a linebacker that you could watch for because I think he's going to be someone.
BC is showing real interest in.
This past offseason.
He had a hundred and twenty eight tackles.
Fourteen quarterback kits.
Four tackles for loss.
Four sacks and two caused fumbles.
On Milton, one of the best teams in Georgia.
That says something.
A little bit in the smallest size like a little taller than old McGowan.
He's listed as five and a half five.
Five and a half five feet and eleven and a half inches.
Five and a half inches.
So that's around where I owe and have McGowan comes.
Because seemingly whenever any player gets on campus seem to shrink a little bit.
But this kid's ferocious.
Like this is a BC linebacker right here.
Good like decent size.
But like a violent streak.
He's all over the field.
Good instincts.
I liked Steve Klein that they landed this year.
This would be a nice.
And Griffin Collins to the year before.
That would start to really build in Zikari Thomas.
I keep forgetting to mention him.
He's a really good core of linebackers that I feel like could jump up and get some somewhere.
So he was on campus.
Loved it.
Had a great opportunity.
He got offered by Bill O'Brien.
So he was one that I thought was like.
This is a dude.
I think we're going to talk about it anytime I can talk about a guy named Blaze.
I'm going to talk about it a lot.
I promise you.
I have a very simplistic sense of humor.
And any cool name catches my attention.
And then there's the other big name.
And there's a lot.
I mean, there's quite a few.
But locally.
Simon.
Nua.
Nua.
A six three two hundred fifty pound line back lineman from table academy in Massachusetts.
He's a twenty eight recruit.
And I bring him up because.
Paper has been an interesting school for BC.
And I don't know if it's just you know some schools.
They just don't have good like the best relationships with.
I'm not sure what's going on there.
But BC hasn't landed anyone from table in a while.
They have a ton of talent now.
This is a school that.
You know, everyone talks about CM and Zivarian brother and St. John's and Springfield Central.
Table Academy is a team on the rise because I mean like they have a ton of talent.
Like this year they have Peter Bork.
They had Carter Goodin.
Like they've got a lot of good guys and Simon is definitely going to be one.
He's got offers from Duke Miami and Rutgers right now.
He's just class of twenty eight defensive lineman.
But it's interesting that he was on campus because you don't hear a ton about table.
And it'll be interesting to see how much BC puts the emphasis on him because he's going to be a highly rated local recruit.
And so will table actually like will that connection finally happen?
It just doesn't seem like it's there like you know Carter ended up a Tennessee pet Peter Bork is elsewhere.
And there's a few other names that we just you know Dominic Macer, I believe.
Is another guy that was just on campus.
And he's just six.
Yeah, Dominic Macer's a six seven offensive lineman.
He was just on campus, but will BC offer him and really push for him.
These are all questions that remain to be seen.
So those were two names that came on campus.
It was a big weekend for football in terms of visitors.
And this week, pro day is today.
If you're listening on Monday, that's a big day.
I honestly, I get I'll be frank with you.
This pro day doesn't do it for me like.
Like we know Jude Barry is going to be the only guy drafted.
I think I'm going to be frank with you.
We kind of know what you got with Logan Taylor, Quintavius Hutchins is already showing that he's a little bit undersized.
The only interesting part for me is Lewis Bond.
Like how does he because he I felt like he got gyped by the by the NFL combine.
And I feel like he should be drafted.
And this will be a chance for him to put up numbers that show he should be drafted.
That's the only thing that's interesting to me because you're going to have a whole bunch of other guys,
which no offense to them are never really drafted.
Like I heard Andre Heinz, who was a wide running back a couple years ago, who ended up at Wagner, he'll be there.
But you're going to have guys like Luke McLaughlin, you know, you know, a couple other local guys like I just.
None of them are going to get drafted.
You can talk about them and say, wow, they're not going to get drafted.
So that piece to me doesn't seem that interesting.
One piece for me that I'm very interested to see how he kind of charts is Lewis Bond.
That's that's the piece.
And if Logan Taylor or Jude Barry, does any of the workouts that they didn't do in the combine, but I doubt they're going to do it.
So that's it.
Alright, thank you all for joining me on tomorrow's show.
Will there be a new head coach?
We'll find out.
It will, you know, and we'll talk about that.
We'll talk about football.
We'll talk about pro day on Wednesday show.
We'll have Mike Sidley on to talk about practice from the last week or so.
I will be a practice on Sunday Saturday next week.
And my schedule started to open up a little bit more.
So I should be able to get some more practices.
So I know some of you have been hoping for more.
I will be there.
But as before that, I'm going to get Mike in to talk more about what he's seen.
We'll get into all that.
