America leads the world in medicine development. It matters. We get new medicines first nearly
three years faster. Five million Americans go to work because we make medicines here at home
and not relying on other countries keeps us safe. But China is racing to overtake us.
Will we let them or will we choose to stay ahead? When America leads, America cures.
Let's tell Washington to keep us in the lead.

This is the Dominique Foxworth show. Welcome to the Dominique Foxworth show. I'm Dominique Foxworth.
I think we might got a new bit. It might be permanent. But we're going to get into all the NFL
free agency stuff because we're recording early. We're recording a day early. We were so excited
about NFL players getting paid large sums of money, which is your favorite day of the year.
I love it. Anytime anybody can get paid. Well, athletes athletes get paid makes me really happy.
I'm anybody who's not who doesn't own a football team. I love anybody who's not in the tax bracket
of being able to own a multi-billion dollar franchise when they get the money and makes me so happy.
Nobody's ever overpaid. They're all underpaid still. Not sure if I agree. But I'm happy that
they're getting money and not the NFL owners. You got to find an artful way to say we got to
figure out the the nice eupermisms for saying somebody got a little too much money without saying
they got a little too much money. Well, we're going to start with the quarterbacks and I'm going to
start with Maliquilis to the dolphins who is the best quarterback who signed by the time we recorded
that with this episode above two above the Daniel Jones back to the cold speculation. We haven't
heard where Kyler is although it seems like an open secret he'll eventually be in Minnesota.
But we're going to go with the facts we have given the connection to between Willis who spent
his last couple years in Green Bay and how they've rebuilt the organization with Jeff Hathley
and their new GM and they brought in Bobby Slowak who has some of that Shanahan DNA who's
going to try and figure out how to run the ball with maybe the most explosive running quarterback
in the league in Willis and Devon H Ann and some interesting pieces there. Do you think this is a
good fit for Willis? Yeah, I mean I guess the problem is I'm not sure how good Willis is.
This isn't the best option out there but of the available options it seems like he's going to have
a legitimate like chance to prove himself like the problem is this team feels to be obviously in a
rebuild and they're hampered by like the the big dead money on the tour contract and his he's
going to be limited like this team is going to be limited the expectations are going to be
a little lower for this team and the support that he enjoyed in in Green Bay when he had
those few successful games with a past couple years like that's not going to be there so
I'm just looking around at all the other options if Minnesota wasn't on the table which it seems
like Kylie's going to go end up going there so maybe that wasn't on the table. I'm not sure where
the better situation would have been I guess the Falcons you could consider a better situation so
yeah that's not the best spot the Falcons would have been a better spot. I think this is so
interesting I just like I'm imagining Bobby Slocke who wants to re like you know was a hot head
coaching candidate two years ago wants to use the run game comes from that DNA and now you have
Malik Willis who has played so well in spurts and the expectations are really low for this team who
is going to be in cap hell because of they released to it they're going to have more dead
cap money even then the Russell Wilson contract when he got cut from from the Broncos a while ago
and I mean this is sort of best case scenario for them three years sixty seven million dollars like
there were reports that he was going to go over thirty million dollars a year APY and you know
I find it really interesting what a backfield could look like with him at H&N I know that this
is probably going to be sit like said ad nauseam but like they're going to be really fun like they
might just be a red zone team they or he might suck like it's if he plays well in this situation
if the offense has some explosivity it's kind of historic that this dude looked like he was
on his way out of the NFL look like he couldn't really play to potentially working in multiple
situations and you know this is from next chance that's he was plus point three eight EPA per
dropback across twenty four and twenty five which is the most in the NFL with minimum 100 dropbacks
he has well it's just small said it's also the definition good the definition yeah I agree
and I'm excited about the opportunity but I also like
we're not sure that that Bobby Sloak is a good offensive coordinator I know we say Shanahan
and it we can so it feels like Shanahan is like a high school diploma at this point where it's like
everyone has some connection to Shanahan higher the year after here's the high coaching job so like a
lot of people don't know if he's that good offensive coordinator but somehow the Texas offense
got even worse yeah I'm not that's my point about this situation not necessarily being all all
that great so we don't know how good Waddle is like not we don't know how good Waddle is it seems
clear that he's not like as high as they drafted him type of player like top of the league true
number one difference maker Tyree Kill style player which that's not fair not very many people
are Tyree Kill but we haven't seen Waddle carry this offense alone HN we know it's an explosive
big play running back the offensive line has issues the defense has issues and like we started
with the offensive coordinator of a first time head coach the offensive coordinator is unproven
I the more I examine this situation it might be the best that you're going to get if you only
have a small sample size like Malik Willis but it ain't great I would rather shoot him in Atlanta too
but I do think it's a bit interesting and if he plays well he's still going to be he'll be
28 years old when the next time he comes up for free agencies if he plays well he should get a
bag on the back end of this a restructure the thing the Malik Willis signing for the price that he
went for like that becomes more interesting for all the teams that didn't sign them more than it
does for the dolphins if it makes sense because I don't think this is the 21st twenty first size
pay court back in the league it makes a lot of sense that what you're saying makes sense but
I think we thought the dolphins next year we're not going to be competitors I don't think this
changes that so I feel like the dolphins aren't going to be like super interesting but Malik Willis
on the Falcons would have been interesting Malik Willis on the cults would have been more interesting
at this price we all thought that they would be out of the market if he was available but now it
seems like he could have been gotten by those teams for a price that they could have restructured
some other contracts they made it work the the cults thing is is is baffling to me I mean we will
basically we thought that Daniel Jones was going to be on a deal similar to the same
darn old deal which was as like relatively team friendly but now it seems like he wants like 50
million dollars a year they're talking transition tag and like this guy has had a tornado
ACL and injured neck broke his leg and then tore his Achilles last year like I don't want to skip
too far ahead to the Daniel Jones stuff but that's crazy that's crazy and knowing how as Shane
Stuykin was able to like accentuate the best parts of jail and hurts not that he's a one-to-one
comparison Malik Willis but he's been able to use mobile quarterbacks really well like that's if
you're going to pay Daniel Jones that that's an insane thing to do to assume that Daniel Jones
who was kind of getting bad by the time he even got hurt at the end of last year would be worth
that money and that that's a good bet because he gets hurt every single year that doesn't that
seem nuts that that seems like the situation even more than Atlanta the Achilles aside which
maybe because oh let's put the Achilles aside no I know how absurd that sounds but maybe because
the Jason Tato we believe that it could be a bounce back even though it hasn't really happened
the way that we want for quarterbacks in NFL but let's go ahead and put that aside and the broken
leg that has put those both aside all that stuff aside I still don't like think that Daniel
Jones played in a way that we could isolate and say he was worth that money I think if anything
that or not not even that it will be smart to commit that money because I think one of the things
that we've started to appreciate is that we've created a new class of quarterback there was like
this mid-tier class of quarterback that in the past with two as the example those guys got
top of the league money it seems like what Sam Donald created was a space for guys like Daniel
Jones to get paid and for some reason it sounds as if Daniel Jones is going to be able to force
the cults because because Ballard seems like he's on his last legs and has no other options it
seems like Daniel Jones is going to be able to force the cults into a situation where they
were they committed to him for a really big number for an extended period of time that is
bad management that's being left it's not straight out it's not it's not it's yeah it's the result
is bad management but it's not because I think Ballard is dumb which maybe he is didn't say
that desperate right I know but I just I think it's to be to be clear it's because he's desperate
and yeah whatever he needs to be able to demonstrate that he has some some success with the trade
for the sauce gardener demonstrate that he's the right guy to build this team going forward and
if he's gone after this year who cares about the picks who cares about the contract like it's
kind of like I'll cross that bridge when I get to it I hate this I hate when GM do this where it's
like yeah this is like I hate this being the excuse being like I'm gonna get fired anyway let me
over my fan base in this team for the next half decade because I'm gonna take my shot it just
makes me so upset because I like I can say this as a commander's fan I'm left in the bucket of
sadness I'm left with the bucket of you dumped on my head Chris Ballard you're not even a
cult fan it doesn't matter just I know what this is it's like it's like Bruce Allen Vinnie
it's like yep just another one just dump another bucket of
fucking on my head yeah I mean I think it's probably unnecessary for me to explain it because I'm
not defending it I'm just explaining the obvious reason why like and it gets to the conversation
of like incentives and whatever like what do you got it's it's the definition of like we gotta
we'll cross that bridge we get to it it's like I'm not gonna I'll figure out how to manage
around this cap number if I'm here next year yeah I got to get to next year it's using
your last dollars in lottery tickets it's it's it's and we we're we're we're super critical it's
not the same actually I actually think it's different it's like knowing that you don't got
enough money for for rent for the year but go ahead pay this month so you can stay in the house
one more month like that or stay in the apartment one more like that's it's actually a little bit
more practical then I'll spend it all your money on a lottery ticket well the second part of
this Daniel Jones thing is the Alec Pierce signing where he came back for and the trade yeah for
$160 million you know it became like the hot receiver-free agent people started talking about
always not just deep threat three-level receiver he got paid like a souped up Jamison Williams
and it was reported that he took less money than he was offered from his from his like gaggle
of suitors to return to the Colts does that make sense to you I'm saying this from a place of
scorn because I wanted him to be a Washington commander yeah there's a good case for him improving
his production because he didn't have super high target numbers but it's not always a smooth
transition to higher target numbers a bigger focus of the offense and more production fortunately
they have warned their the tight end who I think actually is their best weapon on offense or well
yeah Jonathan Taylor they're best they're best they're best pass they're best pass catching weapon
yeah they have great weapons on offense who Josh Jones is really nice obviously traded pitman but
like that they've been like they have a really complete offensive unit minus what they're getting
out of quarterback right now I think that's the the question honestly is and I guess that's not
it's not fair the truth is they show that this offense can be really productive if there's someone
that should get paid from this situation it certainly is Alec Pierce like he's been productive
we'll see what happens if his numbers go up but maybe his target numbers don't go up because
talk about war and a tight end I think is the best pass catch that they have you have downs also
and obviously Jonathan Taylor is the main engine of that offense so maybe still remains a really
highly paid like deep threat which has a huge value for the offense we talk about this a lot
on this show because that's all that scares me and scares most defenses is the explosive plays
over the intermediate intermediate stuff do you think that's all he is because like he's been
talked about now like he's becoming a three level receiver he's improving so much he's got
ridiculous physical tools and it's like a bet you know like like in NBA terms one like I don't
like like the nerds love him and then he gets paid like a max deal thinking that he can turn to
something more do you think that there's a world where he turns into a true acts like I can
I can beat you all like a bunch of different ways I absolutely think there's a world where that
could happen but I think that that's a it's similar to Malik Willis and that it's like we see the
tools to be able to do it but actually doing it is another thing I think betting on him to do it
is better than assuming that you have a draft pick that's gonna get it done because you've seen him
at least in my view do the harder part is like being the deep threat I feel like creating intermediate
routes or creating space on intermediate routes and short routes becomes a lot easier if people
are afraid of your deep route so I think the hardest part he's done he's been able to do so it
should be able to translate to other parts at offense I don't suspect that he's gonna get like
double the ton because of the things that we pointed out earlier with the other weapons but
it's where the money has to go at this moment and all that matters is if the offense can maintain
his productivity which takes us back to the quarterback question which they don't have a good answer for
right now because their quarterback is recovering from an injury that most people don't recover
that well from and the other quarterback they're letting pursue a trade and anything which is
well I mean I don't think any of the Richardson yeah well the good as like us right he got beat out
yeah a lot of things to say about pierced stuff is just that like you know he's done these things with
it's I don't think it's exactly fair to compare them like well so he has more than three games on tape
and it will assist you but he has more he has more than no no no no more tape out there and also like
part of him doing this being so efficient with bad quarterback play it's like maximizing
opportunity so there's a world where like if they do have good quarterback play for an entire season
like can he do all these other things like I not to like we've seen some of the values of receivers
where like DJ Moore is going for a second round pick we're hoping that he can be a separator for
the bills or we're like AJ like the Eagles want a first round pick for AJ Brown and it's like in certain
ways like right now where they are in the career like I'm not sure you wouldn't take pierced over
those guys for the costs or what what he is I know it's a it's a big number but his skill sets
really unique like if he was in Buffalo it'd be like wow great signing yeah the the Malik Willis
comparison was a bad one but I think the concept is is it's still there it's like we haven't seen him
do it all but we believe that we've seen enough to suggest that he can do it but he he's proven
I went through the explanation and realized how foolish the Malik Willis comparison was because
like my point is he's done the hardest part well in my yeah so yeah I think you're right you could
easily make the argument that this is the of the available receivers including AJ Brown you can
make an argument that Alec Pierce is the one that you would want to go with especially if you're going
a long term deal or a longer term deal but and we've seen AJ do it pretty recently and when AJ
has had his best like he was top five receiver at football and was like a true Batman Alpha

funniest keepy story because this one like i know we couldn't lead with it but i just want to take
you through the last 18 months of Atlanta Falcons quarterbacking oh no they signed Kirk cousins
coming off in a kille's injury to a massive deal to then immediately draft michael penic's
junior who had two ACL surgeries multiple shoulder injuries um which confused all of us we argued
vociferously about tarry font no and the value of the pics and gm's doing things differently to
then we are you we didn't really argue about it no really arguing but anyway i tried to present
a defense that's it yeah well you you did a great job you was a fantastic defense and now
they have signed to a tank of my low who's released by the dolphins they only have to spend like
a million bucks on them because of contract offset language but they now have had a year where
two is now in the mix in their quarterback room and i know Ben so like pointed this out on his
free agency recap with meena that if you combine the passing charts of two a ton of yellow and
michael penic's junior you have a full quarterback one in michael penic's junior who can drive the
ball outside the numbers um into the ball down field doesn't matter where the middle of the field
and two uh who only thinks and ducks over the middle of the field and wants the ball out of his
hands really quickly none of them are healthy are really good health bets and it's weird because
we talk about maximizing all pros on rookie on rookie windows and they have drafted like a fantasy
football team they have so much offensive talent with bijan and drake london and even you know
the the re re apexing of kyle pits um and now they're kicking the can down the road with a one year
deal from two and i don't know what do you think about how the falcons handled their quarterback
situation it doesn't make sense man i i i've tried to figure out a way to make this defensible
but it's not really defensible like i could understand malik willis makes sense i guess the only
thing there's only two ways where this makes sense is if they do not
they feel really confident in michael penics right but still it still doesn't make sense
like the tie the left-handed thing is the only thing that makes sense is like we want to
left-handed quarterbacks so they're used to because drake london was talking about how you
get to adjust to the spin of the ball he's like it comes in differently i guess like he's like
receivers have to get used to that right and i mean i guess that like the offense you're predominant
side like the way you want to turn and run plays and your dropback would suggest it's you run plays
that's only way it makes sense because the thing that you do not need for to back up michael penics
or to back up toa is a quarterback who's shown to not be that adorable why would you go get
another quarterback that's not adorable put aside the fact that he may not even be good enough
eat which one toa or penics toa they already have penics right i think that's fair to say
that about penics also but they already have penics i'm talking about this decision you can't change
that you have penics and you can't change that he's been injured a bunch and that he is coming off
another injury i don't quite understand why you would go get another quarterback i could even
understand getting and Rogers like would make more sense to me even though because at least
like it feels like there's some higher in production i just don't get it man maybe and like
all right they're both left handed but penics rips the ball and you're assume you would build an
offense that allows him to throw deep and take big shots that's not what toa does yeah it
does none of it seems congruent with the exception of the fact that they're both left handed i guess
there's like a good chance that just be john has like a career year out of the backfield catches like
80 balls just what i'm dead serious like i'm just trying to think like how this is going to work
or like a shorter a dot for kyle pits the the only other thing is that they're doing what i ask
NBA teams to do is make you a tank look believable because the only other option which at least make
it look like you're trying but i love i love that you just coming to the point these just a tank
commander i'd definitely not to take commander or the two of the two of the two of the two of the
team commander um well let's let's pivot for this because that was funny and i that was like
uh bewildering but there's a team that's changed its identity a lot which is the kinsley chiefs
they signed Kenneth Walker for well i guess three years 43 uh and i think this is interesting
because they had to explosiveness problem that's something you talked about Nate Tyson they had
also been tied to germ i love in the draft this changes probably their draft plan um in this
a team that in 24 in 25 had two historically low explosive run rates and part of that is because
of the way that they use the short pass and game part of that's just because of this has been a
massive issue in the offense where they can't create explosive runs do you think Kenneth Walker fixes
their like their explosivity problem i mean of course not the explosivity problem
wasn't about the running game only like that matters but the explosivity problem we've talked about
on this show a lot because you bring enough about how the chiefs were not even when they were good
they were less fun to watch than they used to be because they were dinking and dunking down the
down the field and with Tyson we talked about some of the differences in the receivers that they
brought in and why it hasn't worked out so yeah i don't think Kenneth Walker solves that problem
i think Kenneth Walker will be really good there and especially when they get um uh my homes back
they'll be he'll be really good there but i still think that the answer has to be on the outside
to improve the explosiveness but the issues for me for this team is one when's the quarterback going
to get back and who's it going to be until he gets back if he's not going to start the season and two
what what are they going to do about their defense i am like the
defense seems to be at least a secondary in particular which is something that's important for
a spagnola defense is a versatile and flexible secondary yeah um it's going to be a complete
overhaul so i guess they're going to try to win through the running game next year well yeah and
i mean this is like the huge pendulum swing explosive offense and they had this dominant defense
with spags and maybe potentially swinging back this is you're talking about jalen Watson going
to yeah he's going to the Rams they traded Trent Mcduffie so the Rams yeah oh sorry yeah they're both
both cheese corners on the Rams um i do before we get into that part because i think there's some
interesting stuff there and this does connect to the NFC West but is there's any part of you think
this is just a lesson for our smart teams um should use for agencies so that they aren't forced
draft for need that if the chiefs think we're in the top 10 we don't want to draft even if you
think you know we talked about this Tyson Jeremiah love fourth on his board Matt Miller and Todd
McShay have Jeremiah love first on their board it's not dumb to take him night and maybe they don't
even think he'd be there if he's if he's uh it's be there for their pick but like does does any part
of you think that this is just good process where they're now going into the drafting like we
just can take the best player available no matter what yeah i mean i think that's always good process
it's not like a secret anybody who follows sports knows that you want to you want to go into
the draft i think the way that Tyson put it was like ready to play tomorrow you don't want to have
a big hole but it also when you pay for a position like running back we didn't take into account
that it also does tie your hands there's like certain positions where it does tie your hands
son right because as difficult as hard as we are on anyone who pays running backs
it's kind of like the the falcon's thing is they signed a quarterback which should have in your
mind and most right thinking for people people's minds like that should have tied your hands from
probably drafting another person at that position it's the same kind of thing so like
i don't think it's wrong what they did but if Jeremiah love does slide to them they then can't
draft them really good uh yeah they could but what's your what type of office and maybe um
they'll run the wishbone yeah or they'll just rotate them i guess Tyler Algier and
Beeshawn played in the backfield together but they both didn't get paid so that's just a tough
spot to be in right because like if you if you sign a tackle like you could go ahead and
if a great tackle drops you could draft another tackle same thing is true for receiver like the same
thing is true for almost any other position but it's like running back the one position where
you're not supposed to spend any money where you can get average uh pretty easily they have tied
their hands i don't think that it's i don't think it's a huge mistake but that's the other way to
look at it yeah and you know if you go back to Marcus Allen but Jackson uh but uh because that's
how football has played and that's and that's what Kenneth Walker and Jeremiah love are certainly
that's right i skipped over the fact that we don't play that way or skip to us not playing that way
anymore and forgot the fact that those are two of the best college football players you've ever
seen and yeah NFL football players we've ever seen that's exactly right um but so i want to pivot
i think you're right about that now do you want to pivot to the nsc west side of this because
do you think the sea hawks who after this kind of the walker signing side brought back
Rashid Shaheed for 51 million dollars uh it seems like it was one for one choice do you think
they had a weird day in free agency because like obviously they're gonna have they have some contracts
looming they lost boy mafe they lost Kenneth Walker do you think that was a good one for one
flipping like we have to pick one we're gonna bring back Rashid Shaheed as our deep thread over
over Ken Walker yeah i think so i mean i for all the obvious reasons right is that the they may not
get a running back that's as explosive as as Kenneth Walker but i think it's a it's going to be
easier to replace that position than it is and it's gonna be cheaper to replace that position
and easier replace that position i know the draft isn't full of running backs like it was last year
but as a position edge can replace more easily than the an effective number two receiver that fits
in really well with what they want to do the thing that i remember from last year when they put
Shaheed out there was the way that defenses were adjusting to taking away their explosive plays
it changed when Shaheed showed up and we saw Shaheed show up and get some explosives right off the
bat through the past game and not to mention the special teams but the past game specifically is
because all the attention was elsewhere and we saw that those two guys can run similar routes
and challenge in the same way in particular like the the speedos and crossing routes
it was pretty obvious who they were going to before that change and i think that changed the
offense and it's more important to have that um that threat than it is to um bring back the super
boiling VP as crazy as that sounds yeah i mean it's it's also like they both kind of i know
Shaheed didn't have like massive volume right i'm not sure they win the super bowl without
both of them playing they both were like massive game changers for them and got on heaters
at the end of the season and like Shaheed flipped games of special teams he flipped that i mean
the the Rams game then and upgain them the one seed like he flipped that game
was it only that game like i think it's not even down the stretch yeah right but i think what i
find is as much of the this is going to sound stupid like obvious the plays that he made the
touchdowns that he scored the special teams returns like those matters were absolutely sticks out
in my head yeah it's like those plays that yeah those plays mattered and they were a big deal
but what resonates for me is when i was watching tape watching jsn get all the attention
and watching them try to find find creative ways to get jsn open and and struggling and then
watching Shaheed show up and watching him start to get those same plays and force the defense to
be honest in a way that i think you would normally associate with a deep threat and a running back
it's like having two guys and this as anybody who fought who watched this show knows that i'm
partial to that i understand that you want to have different receivers that do different things
but i want both of my receivers to be able to thread you deep and they both could and that made
this offense i think it made the offense a lot easier to operate for for sam donnell you have to
imagine higher volume for she this year too not being in mid season acquisition too like there's
talking we talk about they're being more in the tank it seems like there's certainly more in the
tank for for him in that offense it feels great a bunch of good new football news we have
breaking out of protect let's talk about the other the other team that was that from their division
which is the ramps they signed jalen Watson they now have people had connected them for a while
i believe to the rumor was to it was to woolen actually yeah being that rick woolen was going to
leave the seahawks and end up on the ramps as the big guy across from karmic duffy but their holes
had been the cornerback position and that's what we looked at when we're looking at the offseason
it seems like they effectively filled that and they have just like waves of talent on that team
to do is that how you feel after after these two signings but they like they are in sort of the
a position in the center c because of the way that they address for agency yeah i mean i think it's
hard to argue we i felt that way after they made the trade for mcduffy and then they they bring in
Watson also which i think is also a major upgrade for their one week spot and they play differently
which i think helps them quite a bit to be able to attack in different ways i think most importantly
is it frees up i believe it probably frees up mcduffy to do what he does best which is to play
the nickel whereas if you remember from earlier shows i assumed that they would put lake at the
nickel and keep mcduffy on the outside because they didn't have like any really stable outside
corners bringing in Watson and maybe they'll drafts another corner or bringing another corner
some other way but bringing in Watson i think allows mcduffy to do what he does best which i think
is play the nickel and maybe they'll play more dime and and have him and lake both in the nickel
but i like the idea of not having because that was part of as a huge part of the value from mcduffy
and kansas city was his versatility in his ability to affect the game from the slot so i like
that he can do that more now i agree i think that's it's just interesting they have optionality one
for having like feeling really limited corner to like a bunch of ways they can play now

or just stop by another big signing lender bomb title in the bomb 27 million dollars a year leave
Baltimore to go to the Raiders this team these two teams now inextricably linked in the offseason
at the max crossby trade now the Raiders signing lender bomb from the Ravens does this help the
Raiders or hurt the Ravens more because we don't talk about over pace we don't talk about over pace
no such thing it definitely I think hurts the Ravens more like the Raiders have I think they
might have led the league in cap space like they had a lot of space they're signing a rookie quarterback
they're in a rebuild they can afford to pay top dollar for the players that they think are important
especially a guy that they think is gonna be the anchor to rebuild in their offensive line and
so yeah like I think it doesn't limit them from doing too many other things because of the
situation that they're in building this roster and their timeline is not championship today so yeah
it hurts the Ravens more because the major weakness for the Ravens is the interior of their
offensive line like if you followed the Ravens on the social media or at all like their guard play
which is something that you never really hear like common fans you don't want to hear about
guard play you don't want to know the navy or guards like that the guard was the guard play was
so bad that like fans were making like regular normal fans who don't care about guard play were
making edits of how poorly the guards played and lender bomb is a good center I don't think he's
like the best in a league but he was a little bit of stability between those two guards and they
brought in Simpson which is not great guard from the jets but like it should be some improvement they
haven't addressed the other guard spot but losing lender bomb I think hurts them more than it helps the
raiders yeah what do you think about the contract where you just said he's not you don't think
of him as the best center in the league but he got paid more than any center in the last 15
years and people you know I you know the opinions on that change we're obviously a Jeff Saturday
podcast so we view center as a premium position but not everything does compared to like left
tackle but they're sort of pot committed they have mendoza they have bowers they have genty it seems
clear that they want to make sure that they are building up from that offensive line to maximize
that those guys those young players yeah I mean I think you just you said all the names that I
think make it so that it is okay to pay a lot of money for a position like guard it's like
their best and most important most potentially most expensive players are currently on rookie deal
so like even if I were someone to say the dreaded words that you overpaid this is not the situation
where where you could like this team is the money got to go somewhere and it's a very important
place especially if you want to protect your quarterback it's a it's a situation where you can't
miss it reminds me a little bit of like the it's not quite the same you're gonna make fun of me you
always make fun of me for trying to make connections the things that don't connect so I'm not
gonna make it never you have to now you cannot say it you remind you to live it or what I heard it
and I realized that it was just a not a good connection but it's kind of like arguing that you
overpaid for Max Crosby in that like it's a distinct you have a distinct window you have to do
what you have to do to get it done and it's just it's more valuable to you than it is to other people
I think that's not a good comparison what you want you didn't want to share it you landed the
plane on it though shut up you land the plane on it there I know it's why I stopped so I stopped
then you said I had to do it and then you started to bash me well you got a stupid tennis shirt
I was like Carlos gonna lose the night I was retaining this I'd be surprised by that
I hope he doesn't lose I want to watch him that's uh by the way what you also did is like
you just explained to every team ends up overpaying people we don't like what overpay is but like
he's more valuable to us than he is to the rest of the market so we kind of get him at all costs
it's the famous last words from Giamlux like makes a bad decision by by that stupid logic no one
would ever get anybody like of course everyone who gets their player with the exception of Alec Piers
apparently is the one who thought the player was more valuable than anyone else like isn't that
like the definition of free agency not every signings not every signing is like a market outlier
oh yeah that's yeah oh no I said it's more valuable to us than it is to anybody else yeah
that's what I have and that's how supply and demand works yeah and then sometimes you get
outlier things but I guess to your point that's fair but I guess my opinion is if you have
if you have like market outliers on the low-end in certain positions like that's the point like
you have the opportunity to make these decisions that are important so like if we have very cheap
tight-in who's maybe the best in football very cheap quarterback a very cheap I guess running back
is never super expensive but you're saving money there it's okay to allocate some more resources
elsewhere I just want to read you one one number on this which is since 2011 this is from the
athletic the average per the highest average per year contract for a center if we adjust the
2026 cap environment had been Frank Ragnos deal in 2021 at 22.3 million in today's dollars
lender bomb just signed for 27 market out where to go lender bomb congratulations yeah you're
not gonna get me to say that is an old thing yeah I tried to work around it with with with
market outlier yeah we different way to no I'm fired I'm fired I like that we had to begin
into the show we said we'll find a different way to discuss it I'm comfortable with market out
outlier or inconsistent with production well let's let's talk about last one of these and we'll
do a couple of quick hitters uh no I'm yeah we get that one's interesting um my production yeah Mike
Evans to the 49ers he signed there everyone immediately made the deals a three-year deal worth
up to 64 we're 60 million dollars I'm sure the incentive structure is built around that but
everyone's made the jokes about the electoral substation and his and his body and stuff but the
question I have is does this feel like a desperate signing to you like this team feels like the
window and the referees on an older point is rushing was different this year than I had been
years past even so like an electric pass catcher kittles coming off the killies Trent Williams might
stand on business and really want to be traded if his deal doesn't get renegotiated I mean it's
might I mean like if you get paid I'm sure hope you find to come back oh yeah that would that would
qualify as standing on business yeah I guess I would just say it might because you know better than
anyone else Trent Williams if he's saying he ain't showing up he ain't showing up he's not showing
off yet but did you feel like this a desperate time to use this makes sense to you like it'll be
I guess it'll be Evans and parasol is their top two targets next year Brandon I you could not
gonna play another step another snap for this team I guess yeah I mean I guess the the reason
I'm having trouble with answer that is because I don't think I do think this this team is in
desperation mode but I don't think that this signing is like necessarily evidence of it and by
the way I need to the update on this contract is it could be worth up to $60 million I have more
information now yeah it's $16 million guaranteed yeah in total right right right yeah so we can move
on it's not a desperation side okay it's it's a sign and consistent with yeah the value I think part
of the part that we miss about some of these is how few about some of these decisions is how
few roster spots you have on NFL team and now that jumped into my mind about the Atlanta
conversation is like yes just a million dollars for two of but you're not gonna carry a ton of
quarterbacks so like it's a spot that you're losing if you want to bring in another quarterback or
if one of them get hurt or something like that so that jumps out because I think Mike Evans at this
point his career in his career and with the 49ers who seem to get a lot of players injured you cannot
expect him to be an every down all season long 17 game receiver so I am less concerned about
the cap allocation and more concerned about who is gonna be there for the four or five games
that he's not there or who is going to be there to spell him in situations throughout the course
of any given game and yeah so a lot of the spots especially for that price is guys that can fill
in that blank which is probably pretty fairly easy to find but the offense changes dramatically
if you're anticipating that he's going to be a big part of this offense it changes dramatically
if he's out little double big dude offense is like them and the Steelers are doing the double big
dude yeah let's use a quick hitter stand this some some signings the Titans signing Wanda
Robinson they spent four years $70 million dollars he's obviously very good at layup routes
does that does spending a lot on Wandael make sense for you to help out Cam Ward going to you too
yeah I mean you got to get Cam Ward to help that he needs I think they'll probably continue to try
to bring in because obviously Wandael is not um it's not like a A1 X type receiver so they'll
try to find that for him but I think given the situation that dinner right now you got to get
this is back to the question about entering the draft trying to fill some holes so uh
it's not a team that I think is uh actually think the like Franklin Myers acquisition
the detackle is more interesting to me than the Wandael one I think that really helps that defense
assuming that Myers can Franklin Myers can still um produce because I thought he was an important
part of that Bronco's defense last year it's just like so much of the like they need Cam Ward to
more comfortable like I mean obviously the tape showed that he did so he he was a better player
than the stats but like it was you know not a great situation to be tossed into offensively
a Daffy away to the commanders four years a hundred million dollars they have had so much trouble
getting to the quarterback and that defense been so bad um your thoughts on that yeah I think I
the edge position is so valuable man wait that's um your defense actually your thoughts will be
interesting but your defense needs to be turned around a Daffy always a good step in that
direction is legitimate um starting edge but like he he's not like a a game record type of guy
consistently I mean the defense is I I just John Kenlock at 50 pressures last year I think he's
still an upside player even though he still had set he only had seven sacks they're moving to
this three four hybrid where they're going to play a lot of nickel and maybe Doron pain
Kenla for Sus State Johnny Newton is going to move can like improve that pass rush and they can
get after the quarterback a little bit more but like I honestly like that team has so many floss
we have so many floss like I if you get 17 games of Daniels these healthy and the the offense is
completely different maybe it maybe I feel very differently about this but I I don't have I don't
have a lot of faith my vibes are not high right now I think I texted you being like I'm worried
about Adam Peters um and I think I decided that I either want my GM to be a huge nerd or or
walk like he's got no knee cartilage because that means he has a great a great player who gets ball
and Adam Peters a little too handsome and a little too clean of a gate
so the the lip is just Aussie I don't know who the nerd is that you're talking about I don't know
when I saw John how we how we how we how we how we how we how we how yeah definitely um I saw John L.A.
hobble up to the stage for that Super Bowl dream commence paying man to get to come to the Broncos
I'm sorry you need some you need to be without knee cartilage or be a nerd all right good to know
sorry Adam you might be out of a job in DC stealers adding Jamel Dean and that one
interesting because like he I would assume a lot of teams wanted him on short-term deals he's
still a really good player um was that surprised you were he ended up it shouldn't have been
I think the the reason why I jumped out while surprise is because I don't think I think about
the stealers the same way the Steelers think about the Steelers I would have loved to see like
the bills go after Jamel Dean a team like the bills are shifting I assume shifting to more
man coverage in Jamel Dean can do that the Steelers have done the same thing last year they
wanted to get away from the zone and do more man coverage so they needed a guy like Jamel Dean
to improve their ability to do that their flexibility in that however I just didn't see I didn't see
this I see Jamel Dean as like a short-term we're making a Ryan type of guy yeah and I didn't see
the Steelers as as that type of team but it doesn't hurt him it's not a compete it's not a particularly
onerous commitment but I like it as an acquisition but I just would have like some other teams go
after Jamel Dean last one panther signed jail and fill up for four years 120 million dollars yeah
I think um it made me think about the draft and how having a edge a starting edge on a rookie deal
feels like it's coming up to as important as having a quarter back on a rookie deal is because
Jalen Phillips has flashes of great but like he's not like great all the time and when you look at
a lot of he's had a lot of injuries from college he medically retired in college he's had
daykillies he's had the partial term during the ACL yeah and when you look at the would it with
the market requires for just a starter at that position let alone a difference maker it just
seems like that is a position that is that you you're gonna have to invest in so it's gonna have to
hit which is why if you can get our Bel Reese or Bane or any of these guys and they play near that
level like that's hugely valuable what you want to say the award so bad I do not want to say the
award I will never say the award because the award does not apply ever I will say words to be like
whoa that dude got paid a lot of money for how good he's been on the football field lately I
all right that last part I'll say whoa that dude got paid a lot of money here congratulations to him
