Breaking down Mike Vrabel’s latest comments today

0:00Jones and Keith W E E I grab back on the way 15 minutes from now. So stay tuned for it. Mike Vrable speaking out the podium. Write this very second. Yeah. And it sounds like today, Keith. What do you know? They actually decided to ask about Christian Gonzalez. Yeah. Less than a week before the year starts. A lot of people want to know. Biggest question on the entire team was asked. Is he going to play? Is he going to sign? What's going on with Gonzo? Oh, by the way, did you hear his trainer on the radio earlier this week? Oh, by the way, you didn't name him a captain. Like there's a billion things to ask. They finally got off their asses and decided to do it. I haven't heard this yet. I've read a few tweets. I want to hear it though, because hearing Vrable gives you a little bit of his tone and his attitude and tells you a little bit. So we can start and stop this as we see fit. There's a good like three or four minute chunk. It sounds like from Mike Vrable on Christian Gonzalez. Let's hear this probably relates to what Andrew was just asking in terms of Christian Gonzalez. He's a player today and he was when we saw him in February and it's so how? I mean, again, he's put a lot of great work in.

1:02The competitiveness and practices. He's never really stressed. There's a very comfortable and I don't mean that by lazy. He's not stressed and then when he bursts, he bursts. When he has a chance to go for an interception, he does. I'm sorry. I thought for a second, when he bursts, he's not lazy. He's not. We didn't see what. I'm not calling him lazy. He's pretty casual back there. When he bursts, he bursts. Congrats, I guess. But okay, let's hear the rest of that. I think comfortable and I don't mean that by lazy. He's not stressed and then when he bursts, he bursts. When he has a chance to go for an interception, he does. When he has a chance to stab, he makes great decisions. He plays square. He's athletic and fast. I've seen a player that's sitting around there just waiting. I mean, it's a player that's every chance that he has.

2:06Look to improve, challenge, two minute situations. Normal down, a distance is third down. I've seen a very competitive player. Okay, stop. What's your read on that answer? I think he's crap. They remembered Christian Gonzalez. They asked me about it. Words, words, words, filibuster, filibuster, filibuster, words, words, words. Yeah, it's a lot of like, well, okay, being asked about him, but they kind of threw me off a little bit because they didn't ask him about him before. Now they are, but they're asking about the player. They're asking about like the on field stuff. I'm not even prepared for that. I gotta come up with something on the fly. That was strange. He felt like he was searching there a little bit. The whole time, maybe trying to fill up time because he's like, I got crap here. Come to the gods. I got away with it on Tuesday. Yeah, he's like already thinking about the next answer. Yeah, maybe. That was odd. I didn't call him lazy. No, no, no, don't write that. Yeah. Okay. What else? I was wondering what your reaction to that was and what the organization's reaction was.

3:07Christian's trainer went on the radio. I talked about some of the contract negotiations. On Monday. Yeah, I was talking to him. No, again, no, no comments or nothing new to report with Christian other than. I meant I pretty much covered everything I could there with Mike's question, but nothing new to report contractually. Trying to get him ready for the football game. Trying to get him ready on the first and second down stuff that we're doing today and how that now he can help us win. Okay, so hang on. Nothing new to report, but I am trying to get him ready. Yep. We're on the stuff. I'm just going to point out the last time you guys talked to Mike Vrable, the trainer had been on the air the day before. That was Monday. You talked to him on Tuesday, but now you're asking about on Thursday. Okay, better late than never. At least ask about it. Yeah, sure. Okay, what else? Last time we talked to Christian, Mike, he did not commit to playing week one without new contracts. Would you and your coach, your staff have to create a plan without him for this game against you? Good question, Phil.

4:09You know, we have to prepare for everything that potentially happened, whether that's players availability through multiple different reasons. So, you know, we'll have to be ready for a lot of things. And as we work here into week one and the craziness of the national football league and the journey that we're about to go on. Okay, he's not playing. I mean, he's not playing. That's certainly not a positive answer from Vrable. Now you can say, look, anything can happen. It's crazy. It's the NFL. It's crazy. It's certainly not a, he's going to be out there. He's not. Okay. I don't feel great about that. I'm not quite the resinist. I'm not, but there's more and more evidence. I'm getting there. Okay, what else? Much concerned that the longer this thing draws out that it's just continuing to be a distraction for Christian and something that's negatively affecting maybe his relationship with the team. I think we want to try to be as ready and prepared for the football game as we possibly can. I think distractions come in a lot of different ways and it's how we handle him, how we respond

5:13to him. So again, I love coach and Christian. He's a valuable member of this football team and we'll continue to have discussions and I don't have anything else to add about the contract. Okay. Distractions have come in a lot of ways. Anything specific come to mind? They're like, no. Any kind of any distractions that you could maybe think of? Okay. What else? We're expecting Christian to play in Seattle. Good question. Great. As I said a couple days ago, as the head coach, I expect every player that's healthy and under contract to practice and to play. And again, that may change based on my conversations with different players and the plan that they have each and every day when you talk about practice or what the plan may be for the football game. So that goes with this situation and anybody else that would fall underneath that, that's what our expectation is.

6:14Okay. Stop. He's not playing. I'm not playing on the street. He's not playing on the street. As a head coach, I expect every player healthy and under contract to play, that may change based on conversations. It goes with this situation and anybody else. So he's not just putting it under a blanket. He's saying this situation included as head coach, I expect every player healthy and under contract to play, but it could change. Yeah. Individual situations can make that change. So is he healthy? So first of all, I think he can also play like was he healthy for the joint practices? We're going to argue about that forever. Not you and I. I'm just saying like in general, like he was ruled out whether he's really hurt or not. Is he under contract? Yeah. He is. Not the contract he wants, but he is under contract. So that's why he's on the team. That's why he's at these practices. But is he going to play in the game? Well, individual situations also will change that. I don't know. A lot of stuff in there that doesn't make me feel like he's going to play. Phil asked him about week one. And then I think that was Nicole Yang was like, so is he playing in Seattle?

7:14Yeah. Great. Great question. Whatever has that one. Great question. Is there more? That's it. Okay. That's a lot though. That's a lot more than Tuesday. They talked to this guy in Tuesday. They didn't ask any of this stuff. Yeah. I mean, you know, I don't see how stuff's fine. If you want to ask him about the see how I guess there's game stuff. Go ahead and ask about that. This stuff is more important, I would say. But okay. He went on a weird tangent about Gonzo as a player. He's like, he's never stressed. Not late. You said lazy. I didn't say lazy. Where'd that word even come from? He says there's nothing new to report contractually trying to get him ready for Seattle. So okay, at that point, I'm like, all right, that's somewhat positive. Do you like D line been more than corners? But the shifter said we have to prepare for everything. Availability through multiple different reasons. Gotta be ready for it. Yeah. Distractions come in a lot of different ways. I love coaching Christian. Good. Have to continue our discussions. And then as head coach, I expect everyone to be healthy and under contract to play. That may change. Goes with his situation and anybody else.

8:14Okay. So you don't think he's playing. I don't know. I mean, if you're in this contract sign, if you've never thought right, correct. Without a contract, you don't think he's playing. I guess I wouldn't rule that out. Like between now and extension of his pop up out of nowhere. Maybe it could. I mean, guys like recent currents seem to be confident in that and like, okay, so maybe it'll happen. But if you subscribe to what shifter and follower have said, they're like so far away on the language and they're kind of like messing around with the language and they're over complicating the the the guarantee isn't all that stuff. This has been my stance all along. I think he plays this season because he has to get the season under his belt. But he doesn't have to play all 17 games. You know, Trent McDuffy went the other way. Trent McDuffy started the year without the contract and then by the end shut it down. So I wouldn't be surprised. This one right away like this is some leverage. But like, alright, do you want me to play or not? So real quick, Billy was previewing the whole thing back there, right? Great job giving us that chunk. So he was not asked about whether or not Gonzo's captain was the answer to the captain's at all or do we not know? Don't think so. Haven't seen any like pull quotes about that.
