Sl: Bilo je mrzlo zimsko popoldne.
En: It was a cold winter afternoon.
Sl: Snežinke so plesale po zraku, in se nabirale na zamrznjenih oknih majhne konferenčne sobe na srednji šoli v majhnem slovenskem mestu.
En: Snowflakes danced in the air, collecting on the frozen windows of the small conference room at the high school in a small Slovenian town.
Sl: Notri je bilo rahlo toplo, zahvaljujoč staremu radiatorju, ki je oddajal komaj dovolj toplote, da je sobo naredil nekoliko prijetnejšo.
En: Inside, it was slightly warm, thanks to the old radiator that emitted just enough heat to make the room a bit more comfortable.
Sl: Mateja, mlada učiteljica, se je pripravljala na srečanje s starši in učenci.
En: Mateja, a young teacher, was preparing for a meeting with parents and students.
Sl: Vseeno pa ji je danes bilo nekaj bolj pomembno.
En: However, there was something more important to her today.

En: "Hello, Luka," Mateja greeted kindly and offered him a seat.

En: Luka sat down on the chair opposite her.
Sl: Glava mu je bila rahlo sklonjena, pogled pa upornik.
En: His head was slightly bowed, his gaze defiant.
Sl: "Kako gre?
En: "How's it going?"
Sl: " je vprašala blago.
En: she asked gently.
Sl: Luka je skomignil z rameni.
En: Luka shrugged his shoulders.
Sl: "V redu," je zarezi nasal.
En: "Okay," he mumbled.
Sl: Mateja je nekaj časa molčala, opazovala ga je.
En: Mateja remained silent for a moment, observing him.
Sl: "Veš," je začela, "tudi jaz nisem imela lahko otroštvo.
En: "You know," she began, "I didn't have an easy childhood either.
Sl: Marsikaj sem preživela, čeprav si zdaj tega morda ne predstavljaš.
En: I've been through a lot, even if you might not imagine it now."
Sl: "Luka jo je od strani pogledal.
En: Luka glanced at her sideways.
Sl: Njegovo obrambo je nekoliko zmedla njena odkritost.
En: Her openness slightly confused his defense.
Sl: "Kaj s tem mislite?
En: "What do you mean by that?"
Sl: " je vprašal.
En: he asked.

En: "I mean," she replied, "that I understood what it was like to come home from school and not find understanding.

En: But I always knew that education could help me."
Sl: "Luka je prvič pokazal zanimanje.
En: For the first time, Luka showed interest.
Sl: To ni bilo običajno starševsko vpitje ali nujno samo še ena gnjavitev.
En: This wasn't the usual parental yelling or just another lecture.
Sl: "Ja, ampak ni tako preprosto," je vzdihnil.
En: "Yeah, but it's not that simple," he sighed.
Sl: "Saj vem," je rekla, "ampak sem tukaj, da ti pomagam.
En: "I know," she said, "but I'm here to help you.
Sl: Lahko skupaj naredimo načrt, kako lahko izboljšaš svoje ocene.
En: We can make a plan together on how you can improve your grades.
Sl: Ampak bolj kot to, kako lahko najdeš nekaj, kar te veseli in ti pomaga naprej.
En: But more than that, how you can find something that excites you and helps you move forward."
Sl: "Pogovarjala sta se kar nekaj časa.
En: They talked for quite some time.
Sl: Mateja mu je razložila, kako lahko male spremembe v navadah zelo pomagajo.
En: Mateja explained how small changes in habits can be very beneficial.
Sl: Luka je bil sprva skeptičen, a Matejino sočutje ga je presenetilo.
En: Luka was initially skeptical, but Mateja's compassion surprised him.
Sl: Na koncu srečanja je Luka tiho rekel: "Prav, poskusil bom.
En: At the end of the meeting, Luka quietly said, "Alright, I'll try."
Sl: " To ni bilo veliko, vendar je Mateja vedela, da je to ogromen korak zanj.
En: It wasn't much, but Mateja knew it was a huge step for him.
Sl: Poslala ga je z obljubo, da bo tukaj za vsako vprašanje ali pogovor.
En: She sent him off with a promise that she would be there for any questions or conversations.

En: "Okay," he mumbled.
Sl: Mateja je nekaj časa molčala, opazovala ga je.
En: Mateja remained silent for a moment, observing him.
Sl: "Veš," je začela, "tudi jaz nisem imela lahko otroštvo.
En: "You know," she began, "I didn't have an easy childhood either.
Sl: Marsikaj sem preživela, čeprav si zdaj tega morda ne predstavljaš.
En: I've been through a lot, even if you might not imagine it now."
Sl: "Luka jo je od strani pogledal.
En: Luka glanced at her sideways.
Sl: Njegovo obrambo je nekoliko zmedla njena odkritost.
En: Her openness slightly confused his defense.
Sl: "Kaj s tem mislite?
En: "What do you mean by that?"
Sl: " je vprašal.

En: "I mean," she replied, "that I understood what it was like to come home from school and not find understanding.

En: But I always knew that education could help me."
Sl: "Luka je prvič pokazal zanimanje.
En: For the first time, Luka showed interest.
Sl: To ni bilo običajno starševsko vpitje ali nujno samo še ena gnjavitev.
En: This wasn't the usual parental yelling or just another lecture.
Sl: "Ja, ampak ni tako preprosto," je vzdihnil.
En: "Yeah, but it's not that simple," he sighed.
Sl: "Saj vem," je rekla, "ampak sem tukaj, da ti pomagam.
En: "I know," she said, "but I'm here to help you.
Sl: Lahko skupaj naredimo načrt, kako lahko izboljšaš svoje ocene.
En: We can make a plan together on how you can improve your grades.
Sl: Ampak bolj kot to, kako lahko najdeš nekaj, kar te veseli in ti pomaga naprej.
