The Denver Broncos were quiet in the first two days of NFL Free Agency, only signing their own free agents.
With Alex Singleton, J.K. Dobbins and Adam Trautman locked up, could today be the day Sean Payton looks for outside help? Could Dallas Goedert or David Njoku make sense at tight end? Would a veteran receiver like Deebo Samuel help Bo Nix out in the passing game?
NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger joins the show to share his thoughts on the Denver Broncos’ offseason so far, and where Sean Payton should go from here.
On the DNVR Broncos Podcast, Zac Stevens, Ryan Koenigsberg and Henry Chisholm are coming to you LIVE from the DNVR Bar to break down all of the latest news in Broncos Country.

We got Dion behind the camera and Zach Rockett and rolling with you today,
fellas.
We are 49 hours into free agency, and the Broncos have not signed an outside
free agent how we holding up.
I'm doing all right.
I think we might get one on the show today.
Let's go.
We've got 59 minutes.
Let's go Broncos.
Also, in honor of 49 hours since it started, shout out Alex Singleton.
The guy, yeah.
I'm the guy.
Shout out Alex.
Right.
No, that's nice.
I agree.
And I'm sure that'll be taken up.
Yeah, it would be really fun.
We're going on, I guess, day three of Christmas.
Where the Christmas is just the Broncos wrapping up our own things and giving them to us.
I am still holding out hope for a new present, but here's an update.
Here's some positivity.
So I went through all the numbers.
We don't actually have the real numbers yet,
but we're starting to get them like Singleton's deal.
We know the cap hit.
JK Dobbins, we get the cap hit.
And just guessing with Sternod and Trautman,
I'd be willing to guess that even after the draft picks,
the Broncos have about 22 million in cap space right now,
which is more than I would have thought.
And I might be wrong.
And hopefully by tomorrow, we get more details.
But say they want to save 10 million bucks to go into the season.
I think they've got about $12 million to play with.
And that, that number gives me hope.
All right, it also might be the wrong number.
Yeah, I think that's way too high.
Yeah, I'm surprised because that's way through the draft picks.
I think that's too high.
Yeah, because the draft picks will count for about 2.9 million.
Because off season, only your top 51 contracts count.
And so anybody past the fourth round is making less than
the 51st player on the roster right now.
So they do nothing.
Your first round pick will cost 3 million.
So he costs 2 million after you subtract the 1 million
that no longer counts.
And like the 1.3, 1.4.
So I feel pretty good about that around 10, we'll say.
Yeah, sure.
Speaking of the 14 and I didn't believe that.
So I said 12.
Speaking of the salary cap, the Broncos actually opened up a little more
salary cap space by designating Drey Greenlock a post June 1 cut.
Well, that's why he has not officially been released yet.
He'll be released at 2 p.m.
This afternoon, which means the post June cut means that
they're $4 million in deadcap that they take on.
They're splitting it up between this year and next year.
So it's 2 million this year.
2 million next year means they open up $8 million in cap space
this year.
But they don't actually open that money up until post June 1.
That's how they get that benefit.
So they'll carry his cap for a little bit.
But he will officially be released this afternoon.
Guys, how much did that take but you buy surprise
that the Broncos moved on from Drey?
We literally predicted it.
Yeah, we all thought it would happen.
So not at all.
So zero negative percentage.
We decide that was the most likely outcome.
Because one percent surprise would mean you were somewhat surprised.
But we expected it.
So that would be a negative surprise.
Right.
The surprise meter starts if he is kept.
So if they had kept him, I would have been
40% for surprised.
Yeah.
I mean, especially for me, it was once they brought back Justin
on Sunday morning that it was like, okay, we know where they're going.
Because Justin made it clear this past, right after this past season,
that he wanted an opportunity to start.
Not just the money to be a starter, but the opportunity to start.
And I mean, boy, is he earned that?
He's had to come off the bench two years and he's played a full season now
in terms of starting over the past two years.
He's a starter in the NFL.
And like Alex said, when someone asked Alex about Justin,
they said, do you think he deserves to be a starter in this league?
And Alex said, what do you mean?
He already is a starter in this league.
And so once they brought him back,
they had already made their mind up that they were going to go
Justin and Alex and not Drey.
Yeah.
And I mean, it's the safer play.
Maybe even the smarter play.
And I'm bummed because I was really excited
about the Drey Green Law signing,
which is kind of a funny frame to look at being mad
about not signing anyone.
Right.
As we were all excited about Drey Green Law
and it didn't end up really doing anything for the Broncos.
The one thing that I love the most about him
is that he's a dog.
And he brings like a different type of aggressiveness
and fire and even violence to the field that I really appreciated
that I thought the Broncos needed.
And we'll say, Tala, no, who Funga,
that was the thing I loved about him as well.
And he's coming back.
So maybe they can get another one of those guys
on the defensive line or something
as they go through here.
Just someone who really brings that fire.
But I will also say Malcolm Roaches that guy as well.
And he's probably going to have a slightly expanded role this year.
Yeah, bigger, much expanded role.
I mean, and that's the reason why the Broncos
haven't signed anyone yet because they dished out all that money.
Last year, four hundred million dollars worth of contracts in the past year.
And one of those guys was to Malcolm Roach.
And remember when they brought Malcolm Roacher,
he was two years, six million dollars, three million dollars a year.
They boosted him up to, I believe, eight million dollars with his new deal.
So I mean, over doubled his pay, not just because they like him,
but because they expect him to have a much bigger role as well.
And you're absolutely right, Malcolm Roach is that dog.
And in fact, him and JK Dobbins doggins as some people like to call him.
I mean, those are the two dogs.
As a dog on offense, that's a dog on defense right there.
And the Broncos keep them both in the past 12 months.
Did you just make that up?
I don't know.
I feel like it.
Maybe I've said it in my head a lot.
Or else I've heard other people say it.
But yeah, I felt like you when I said it.
That was good.
Yeah.
And he really does bring that dog.
He does.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, the thing about Dre is just that leg.
And it's different in some ways than JK,
who he's just been hurt in so many different ways.
Whereas with Greenlaw, like you get him and by what April,
you already have an issue with that leg.
And then they're able to get all healed up.
I was reported as like season ending or something.
Yeah, initially.
Yeah, the some 49ers reporters had seasons over.
And then it's a different part of the well,
it goes from like quad hamstring during training camp
after he comes back for a few days.
No, went from quad to different part of the quad.
Oh, right.
Different part of the quad.
But not the same quad, not the same quad injury.
Same leg, but different quad injury.
And then after that was the hamstring, right?
At some point there was a hamstring in there.
I think that was during his ramp up period to come back
right in the season.
Right.
But so then you wind up with just so many soft issue injuries
to the exact same leg over the course of eight months
after his track record of all the things that had already happened to him
and that leg in particular.
And that's why like it's just it's like I'm not betting on that leg.
And I the Broncos were either because it just feels like there's something
something up there that's not going to get fixed easily.
Yep, a hundred percent.
It just kept continued to flare up.
And it just it felt like the drake green loss
signing wasn't going as the Broncos hoped with all those injuries.
And then he comes back the first game
and then gets suspended right after the first game back.
And that is what that's went to me.
It was like damn.
He's probably times probably done after this year at the Broncos.
Just like on the field off the field.
It's just it's not adding up.
And I will say that like drake green law
beyond elite and goal line run situations this past year.
I think he kept like it.
He was the biggest driving force of keeping like three different teams
out of the in zone on goal line stands.
He was good in the run game.
But clearly the Broncos just didn't feel like he was worth enough
to keep going.
So they move on from him.
You don't have to go into detail at all.
But I did see some reporting out there
that like he wasn't seen as like a locker room fit.
Did you hear anything along those lines?
No, he was.
I think what people expected from Dre
with the dog that he brings on the field
to like be that in the locker room.
And he wasn't like a massive ra ra guy in the locker room.
But it wasn't a negative thing.
What I will tell you about Dre
and this is now come to light after the season
and some of the comments that he made.
He was a little caught off guard by some things
with the Broncos in terms of the defense
and how many things went into it, how complex it was.
Tellano Hufanga to be fair also talked about that
after the season, how much was there.
And then also after the season,
he spoke out publicly about just how difficult Sean
Peyton's practices were.
And he was like, we were still practicing for three hours
in the playoffs, which is completely different.
He said like, I'm still getting used to this.
That was after they had the by week.
10 days off.
No, I was also during the by week.
They did it both times in the by week
and then after the by week.
And he was the one that said this.
He said, you know, Kyle Shanahan,
we're in and out of practice.
And what clicks in my head
isn't a Dre Green lot thing.
It's one team's injured all the freaking time.
One team is one of the healthiest in the league.
And we saw that Kyle Shanahan
in Denver the year before with the Daniel Hacker.
They did not practice and what were they?
The most injured team in the league.
Sean Peyton comes here.
So I that's really.
I understand why Sean Peyton does that.
But it just seemed like
not culturally in terms of a locker room thing,
but just things didn't fully click
between Dre and the Broncos.
Yeah, exactly.
That's why it was brilliant that the Broncos
built the contract this way.
They could get out after one year.
It's hard to build chemistry with someone
when they're out of the country.
So off that is very.
That is really hard.
Can you imagine?
Yeah, I can't find the actual quotes.
So I remember being there when he was talking about
like how tough it was to learn the playbook.
Is he kind of like joked about it?
And I think I wasn't there for the end of season thing
where I guess he said something as well.
But it was when he got back from the injuries.
I wish I could find it, but I just can't.
They basically said like, yeah, it's tough to learn.
It's really complex.
We're still working on it.
And that's the question with something about
like how nice is it to have Alex Singleton?
He's like, well, he has all the answers
is I'm still trying to like figure it out.
Which is just one of those things where
when you add up all the pros of cons,
when the decision was between Green Law
or Sternod for that position,
you say, okay,
Green Law has the leg thing who knows if he's going to play.
Green Law doesn't know the defense as well as Justin does
at that point in time.
And then you throw in like Sternod's tools guy
at six foot four and range E
and all the things that he can do.
Or it's just like there's the upside of having
Dre Green Law obviously because he's been really good
at times in his career.
But there's also the upside of having a guy like
Justin Sternod, who's an exceptional athlete
and just has like the length to do a whole bunch of different things.
So it's to me was kind of an easy decision.
That's because you save money doing it too.
You save over the next two years.
You save two million bucks by choosing
to have Sternod on the roster this year instead of Green Law.
Everything points that way.
Dre on his way out though might have helped some
of the Broncos veterans on the team
because Sean Peyton acknowledged after Dre's comments.
He acknowledged like maybe I do need to give guys like
Dre and Cortland Wednesdays off throughout the season.
Well, Dre's not going to get Wednesdays off anymore.
Maybe he got Cortland.
But Wednesday off probably just go get one hour practices again.
I mean, doesn't it just make so much sense that he's going to land with San Francisco?
And I think we all want to believe in the first book.
Yeah, exactly.
We'll all wish him the best of luck.
No hard feelings.
They're a bummer that assigning went that way.
I don't know if he wants to go back to that substation.
Oh my goodness.
You saw all the memes when Mike Evans decided to go to San Francisco.
Oh, no, I didn't.
There's no man.
They're pretty good.
It's like a barbecue where like you pick up the drumstick
and just the meat totally falls off and they're like,
this is Mike Evans hamstring after being around the substation for a week.
Well, the nighters actually have to do something about this.
Right.
They can't just like.
I don't know, ignore it.
So I have a good friend that's a that's a 49ers fan
and I 100% think it's Sean Peyton practice this hard.
Kyle Shanahan doesn't.
And like just everything they do in the off season.
I think Sean is a genius in that in that sense.
And it's proven.
But what I'll say about the substation is I think players,
even if it's 100% false, players believe it to an extent or some do.
I've been in a lot of NFL locker rooms.
Those guys love conspiracy.
That one that's so easy to pick up on.
There's there's no hope she got jumped through for that one.
He's been an hour and there.
You're going to hear some crazy conspiracies.
Yeah.
And so if everyone's getting hurt and there's a conspiracy to be had around it.
Oh, I know.
Well, that's maybe tossing conspiracies.
What's going on with the Broncos?
Why don't they sign in anyone?
Let's ask Brian Baldinger.
I'm curious to see if he's saying the Broncos should Broncos fan should panic or if it's calm down.
We're going to get Baldi's perspective.
He's coming up next.
Now to our friends over at branded bills.
I've got my branded bills on.

The official automotive partner of the NFL
and the official vehicle of DNVR, let's go places.
And welcome back to the DNVR Broncos podcast.
Speaking of going place,
let's go out to the Xfinity mobile call-in line
to talk to our guy Brian Baldinger
who is looking fresh in a suit.
Baldi, what's going on?
I'm here at Tundra Phil Network, getting ready to do
about six hours of free agency here today.
Probably won't talk much about the Broncos at this point
when it comes to that particular time.
But it's an start of the new year here,
so you got to be suited and booted getting ready for a new year.
Celebration today.
I absolutely love a Baldi.
And I mean, you just hit it right there.
Broncos were 49 hours into the legal tampering period.
Broncos have not made any outside moves.
And Baldi, there is some panic,
concern freak out here in Broncos country
by by a large majority of the fan base.
Do you think that is right?
Or do you think that fans need to be okay with the lack of moves?
How do you view this from an outside perspective about the Broncos?
Well, not alone.
I mean, Seattle hasn't made a move.
They want to just want a Super Bowl.
They just signed a couple of their own guys,
Rashid Shaheed.
Jacksonville was in the playoffs last year.
On the division, they they have not made a move.
So they're not alone.
But, you know, people overpaying free agency.
They they try to sign.
They signed Drake Greenhall last year.
Didn't work out.
They've released them.
It doesn't always work out.
A lot of these deals that we see
with big money deals are basically one year deals.
Some in some cases, two year deals.
But I don't think it has to be a panic situation at this point.
I mean, I think George Patton believes in drafting
in developing players.
They've got nine picks.
They've got a good roster.
They hit on their draft picks are going to be fine.
But there could still be something done here today.
I mean, George Patton has made 33 trades
in his four years there.
Like, there's still time to do some deals.
And maybe they're just sitting back waiting for the right one right now.
Yeah, I just thought back to the first trade he made.
And that was not my favorite of the trades.
With Russell Wilson coming here.
But yeah, it's been a little bit disappointing to
we were already with like emergency shows and all that.
And like, they're going to make some big splashes.
And now it seems like they're waiting.
And they could probably blow $10 million a year on somebody.
And if they do that, I mean,
is Dallas Goddard an option?
Like, where would they go?
Who are the guys who could still be like a substantial upgrade for the Broncos?
Well, I think just bringing JK Dobbins back,
you know, said something probably takes them out of the running back market.
You know, they like JK.
And until the injury, he was playing great for him.
So they do, they did do that.
But I don't know, like Dallas Goddard, I live in Philly.
Like, that guy's been a great player.
He caught a lot of touchdown passes last year.
Like, he's a closer, you know?
I mean, they don't have like nothing against having Ingram.
But Goddard, six foot six, you put the, you know,
he can win the jump balls in the red zone and in the,
in the end zone when you got to finish the drive.
Like, he's pretty good at that.
He's a good online blocker.
So he's impossible.
I don't think Philly's going to sign them.
I don't think they've even,
it was questionable where they're going to sign them for a year last year.
So I think he could be available.
But he's, he's had some injuries like a lot of these players.
But for the most part, when he's healthy, he's a good player.
And he'd be a guy that I'd be interested in.
I'd be interested to see if the price drops in AJ Brown.
If that's still a possibility,
I know that there's interest there on both sides.
Like, maybe tepid, but some interest,
at least enough to acquire to what the asking price is.
How he roseman hasn't really budged off for what he wants.
But, you know, maybe as time goes on here through the day,
maybe there's a renewed interest in that.
Baldi, on this show, we like Alex Singleton a lot.
But a lot of Broncos fans do not like Alex Singleton.
I'm curious what you think of Alex's game.
We mix a lot of tackles.
You know, some of them might be six yards down the field.
You know, that probably is what it is.
And he doesn't take the ball away.
But he's an inspirational story, just what he went through.
And by the, except for that, you know,
a particular situation that he had to take care of,
he's been a healthy player.
You could depend on him.
You could, when he was in Philadelphia,
he was a healthy, dependable player.
They're just something about guys that just get their job done
and are dependable.
Is he flashy?
Not really.
But they thought Dre Greenwell was going to be flashy.
And he wasn't any of that.
And so they released him.
And so sometimes you just study is not a bad thing.
Study and consistent is not a bad thing to have
when it comes to playing defense.
They led the league, you know, in sacks last year.
They could very easily do that again,
even with the loss of John Franklin Myers.
They've got the depth there and they've got the horses up front.
And the way that they blitz, they ask their linebackers
to do a lot.
They have a lot of five man pressures.
The linebackers are in a lot of situations
where they've got to, you know,
cover a lot of ground.
And so I think he knows how to do that.
And he's a smart intelligent player.
Paulie, I got to ask you then about JK Dobbins bringing him back.
He's clearly with the contract he got two years, 16 million.
He's clearly the Broncos starting number one running back.
He is so good when he plays.
But obviously there's the injury concerns.
How do you weigh that then bringing him back
with also pretty much making him the number one running back?
They probably went in there thinking
that he's not going to play 17 games in a postseason.
They probably know that because he hasn't done
the running.
But when he does play, he's very productive.
He averaged five yards of carry last year.
Like he's running back number one.
You've got to get RJ Harvey ready to go.
You've got to probably try not to overload him with carries early in the season.
You know, probably 10 to 15 carries.
So probably is what they should probably think about doing
to start the season.
But within that, he's been very, very good.
And so it won't surprise me.
You know, I know that they have other guys there.
Joliel and Tyler.
I think there's other guys in the roster.
But it won't surprise me to see him draft the running back.
They've got nine picks.
They've got a bunch of late round picks.
We've seen Kyle Menungai and Pateca.
We've seen those guys come into seventh round picks
and be really productive in his late.
Joliel was a free agent.
You can still go find a running back
late in the draft right here.
If you feel like you need more insurance.
I'm curious what you think of the Romeo dobs deal.
Because he was a name that for a second,
was kind of rumored with the Broncos.
In some ways, it makes sense.
They only have four real receivers on the roster at the moment.
So getting a guy with a little production,
proven production makes sense.
Personally, I was shocked, though.
It's like almost $20 million a year to go to the Patriots.
Well, they wanted a guy.
Obviously, they, you know, they weren't bringing digs back.
I think digs a better player.
The Romeo dobs.
Romeo is younger, but he's had injuries too.
Digs outside of the knee injury in Houston.
Has been relatively healthy for 10 years.
I'm a little surprised because I think you could get digs for that amount.
But dobs does have.
He does have an explosive element to his gain.
He is a sure-handed guy.
But he has missed time with injuries.
And really in Green Bay, they spread the ball around.
Even Matt LaFlor had come out and said at one point,
we don't believe in labeling our receivers number one and number two.
Jaden Reed has had his days.
Christian Watson has had his days there.
Don Tavius Wicks has had his days.
So dobs was one of four or five guys.
They're going to get Tucker Kraft back.
It was their best receiver.
So he was expendable.
Anyone they drafted Matthew Golden in the first round.
So he was expendable.
I thought that there would be a play for AJ Brown to reunite him with Mike Brable.
And maybe the asking price was too big.
Maybe the salary that AJ makes was prohibitive.
But the contract that he currently has.
And so I mean, they feel like they got a good deal with the younger
Romeo dobs right there.
Baldur, what do you think is going to happen with Brandon Ayuk?
I don't know.
Like, I can't read the tea leaves in this situation.
I know Brandon Ayuk.
He was a guy that obviously was a first round pick out of Arizona State.
Took him a while to earn his way through San Francisco.
And then as a monster year.
An explosive year.
And then they get a contract.
And he tears his name.
We haven't seen him since.
And you know, he burnt his, like one thing, players, and not just Ayuk.
But all players, you should never burn a bridge with your tea.
Like maybe drink green oil.
Can go back to San Francisco and reunite your friend Warren.
The test just reunited with for a third time with the Mario Davis for a second time.
And Geno Smith, like you should always leave the door open.
And whatever Brandon Ayuk did, he burnt that bridge in San Francisco.
But he's still a young talented guy.
And I don't know his health, you know, because we haven't seen him since the knee injury.
But I would, I mean, you have to be interested enough to at least put him to a physical
and fly him in and see what he looks like.
Because when he's healthy, like he is a great route runner.
And he is a difficult guy to handle.
He was receiver number one in San Francisco for the better part of two years.
And so, I mean, there's a guy you have to take a look at.
Because he's still young.
He's probably 27 off the top of my head.
Maybe 28 at the most.
But he's still a guy that, you know, should draw interest in his league.
I just don't know where the mind or the head is at right now.
So then, Baldi, from a Bronco's perspective, you would bring him in and at least give him a look?
Absolutely.
Absolutely, because he is a real,
I mean, look, he just knows how to separate.
He can beat man coverage against anybody.
He is a great route runner.
And he's a student of the game too.
Like you talk to him, like he's a sharp kid.
He knows the game.
He loves the game.
I don't know where he's at mentally.
But if I was anybody and I was in search of a receiver and he was,
I guess he's been absolutely released,
flat out released by San Francisco.
I'm just guessing he has.
Like I would bring him in for a workout, a physical, the whole thing.
Baldi, final one for you.
And it's probably something you're going to talk about for a large majority
of your six hours, the Raiders, Ravens, Max Crosby.
I mean, from a Bronco's perspective, we're view in this like,
is Max Crosby going to be in the division this year?
What do you think happens?
What do you think of the entire situation?
Where's Max Crosby playing next year?
It's weird.
And I did see that, you know, show him paint and send him a note.
Thank him for his time in the AFC West.
And, you know, I think it was all talking to him.
It was good.
It was good for my show.
But, you know, but it showed as a respect.
I mean, I went back and watched his week 16 game.
And they said he was suffering from a knee injury.
Couldn't practice.
Like, he was vintage Max.
He played in week 16 against Houston.
He played every snap.
All 65.
He hits CJ Stroud.
He had tackle for losses.
He tackled Nick Chubb chasing them down the field
on a breakaway run, 30 yards down to make the tackle.
Like, his effort was vintage Max.
Like, I didn't see anything wrong with Max Crosby.
Now, I've failed physicals before in places
and pass them in other places
and end up playing a whole season with no repercussion.
So, this stuff does happen.
I'm working with Maurice Jones Drew today.
He failed at physical.
I think at Pittsburgh, Pass one in Oakland,
went to play for the Raiders.
But, I guess, you know, he's going back to the Raiders
and makes sense.
But if I'm Philip Elfield, if I'm somebody looking for a pass rusher,
you know, with what they've lost in Philly.
Like, I would certainly call his camp
and see where he's at
and what the Raiders would take for Max Crosby.
I mean, the Raiders got back their 14 picked this year,
the number one pick next year.
They spent most of the money that they were going to pay Max
with the Raiders.
I don't know what the situation is right now.
But I know this.
Max is going to be ready to play football
at 100% come September.
I love it.
Absolutely love it.
Love the inside, Baldi.
Thanks for joining us today.
And a week from now,
we'll probably be able to ask you about
an outside free agent, the Broncos of sign.
But until then, Baldi,
we look forward to seeing you on NFL Network.
Okay, guys.
Take care, man.
I'll talk to you next week.
Thanks, Baldi.
That is our guy, Brian Baldi.
You're calling it on the infinity,
mobile, calling line, or his Tyson set
in the chat, the bald father.
As he was looking today, very crisps on the side
of his head man looking sharp, too.
What do you say?
Suit suit up.
Suited and booted.
Suited and booted.
Ready to go.
Maybe we should wear suits.
No, thanks.
I used to get up on.
You two for Broncos games.
Yeah.
I used to as well.
We'd wear suits for every game.
I used to wear suits for Broncos practice.
No.
That's still one way to look out of place
at a football practice.
I'd wear a button down shirt and slacks
and dress shoes for practice.
Our whole last jacket.
Wow.
That's impressive.
Yep.
And then a radio person told me like,
you don't got to do this, bro.
Yeah, it is very true.
All right, there's so much to talk.
Well, guys,
want to talk about Max Crosby and the Raiders.
Want to talk about Romeo,
Dobbs and the Broncos interest there
and what it means that they didn't sign him.
Want to talk about so many other things,
including PJ Lock is gone.
Want to ask you guys if the Broncos should go
after Ayuk and what do we make of this quiet start?
All of that's coming up next.

Goes hit us with the thumbs up.
We'd like to hear what you're saying.
So drop in the Twitter chat,
liked all the comments from Baldi who's on.
Appreciate you.
I have to mention the funniest thing
that I've seen happen in the chat all week happened
during the Baldi interview.
A person who in one comment said,
the Raiders are going to destroy the Broncos this year.
Then follow it up with their next comment
when you said some people are panicking
and said, we're not panicking.
We're being realistic.
Wow.
Yeah, no.
Incredible to two comment combo.
Wow.
Yeah, it's, uh,
that would be the definition of panic, I would say.
I'll just remind people,
something the Baldi reminded people of.
The team that just won the Super Bowl
hasn't signed anyone.
The Jacksonville Jaguars,
one of three teams to beat the Broncos this year,
it has not signed anyone as well.
Broncos will assign someone.
I get it.
It's just weird because typically you see signings.
But here's the thing.
If the Broncos signed one person today,
they will have signed as many people,
just since free agency started as they did in this period last year.
Now, the only difference is Broncos signed to in-house guys
since free agency started.
And then one outside guy if they do one today,
whereas last year it was three outside guys.
But I mean, that's like where we are.
We're not like so drastically far off.
It just feels different because
their outside guys is supposed to inside guys.
But remember, the Broncos,
the two guys they already signed
since free agency started.
I'm talking about since Monday,
are starters.
The Alexinglethins has started.
JK Dobbins has started.
So they have signed two starters,
just internal, not external.
Yeah, I mean, we're all hoping that the Broncos do something.
We are.
They will.
I promise you.
And it's just the everybody loves the NFL
because of the parody.
Like because the top always comes down
and the bottom always goes up.
And you wind up like,
that's the nature of a league with a salary cap.
And for a long time,
the Broncos have been one of the teams on the bottom
who have been able to just go sign players to get better.
Eventually, you're the team at the top
who has to pay your own guys.
And so you don't get to add more.
And it's just, I think for the first time
in a decade, Broncos fans have had to be on like
the annoying side of the salary cap
the situation instead of one of the teams
that gets to go make moves.
Yeah.
And we don't have to relitigate
the Alexingleton conversation.
But I will say like Baldi had
the most normal Alexingleton take
I've heard all week.
Very normal.
Which I think just shows like how everything
on social media become so black and white
you either love Alex, you hate him.
And Baldi's just like,
yeah, he's like a good reliable player.
Yeah.
And that's just, yeah.
It's the right opinion.
And he added like the five-man rush stuff.
We had the conversation last year
when they signed Dre Greenla.
You know, the best formation defensively
that they had in 2024
was the penny front where they line up
five guys on the line of scrimmage
and you rush all five
and get a whole bunch of one-on-ones
and you just have the one linebacker behind him.
And that's Alexingleton.
So when you get Dre Greenla,
do you give that role to Dre Greenla
because he's Dre Greenla?
The answer was no.
You give that to Alex
because that's something he's he's good at doing
is you send all these guys forward.
His job is to kind of like
almost act like a goalie
just like don't let anybody pass
from tackle to tackle.
And so they give them that job this year
and it was once again,
I think that when the Broncos defense
was at its best,
was out of that formation
and he was the guy at the center of it.
It also means there's a lot of space
in the middle of the field and all that.
But it's just it's
when that's your fastball
and you can just keep your fastball
for $7 million a year, whatever.
It's just an easy decision.
And then speaking of guys
that the Broncos weren't able
able to keep because they've gotten
too good and they have too many good guys
that they can't pay them all.
We already talked about JFM leaving that one
was one that was not a surprise
to anyone we knew that was coming.
But a guy that Broncos lost yesterday,
PJ Locke, he signed it,
one year, $5 million deal
with the Dallas Cowboys.
Makes a lot of sense for him
is former secondary coach Christian Parker
who left the Broncos two years ago
to go with the Eagles.
He's now the Cowboys defensive coordinator.
He reunites with him
presumably in a starting role
and PJ put out a really, really cool note
on Twitter just thinking Broncos country
for allowing him to make Denver feel
like home the past seven years.
And he pointed that the reasoning left
wasn't because of the Broncos
and he didn't want to be here,
which is a business.
He said things didn't work out on the business side.
But just so you guys know,
you hold a very, very special place
in my heart that I can't put in towards
really, really cool for PJ and cool.
He can't believe he was here that long
if I'm being completely honest.
He signed December 2019 for the Broncos.
I mean, he is one of the longest
tenured Broncos.
We obviously know his story,
great special teams guy
then kind of a fourth safety.
Then he moved into the the backup safety role
for the Broncos got to start a lot.
And then actually was the starter in 2024
then had that terrible injury
where he had to have a spinal fusion
last January.
Pretty much doctors told him
you're going to have to retire.
He said, let's just let's see
if I can play through it
and they're not play through it,
but make it back.
And he did.
He's the first known case
of someone with the spinal fusion
to then play again.
So really cool.
He got to play a little bit last year
when Brandon Jones got hurt.
But now he gets to be a starting safety
somewhere.
And that's what you want to happen.
You want to develop and draft
and sign so many good players
that unfortunately have to let JFM go.
Unfortunately, PJ Locke
becomes too good to be a backup here.
And that's that's what happened there.
It does leave a little hole for the Broncos though
because I mean, he was a he was a borderline starter
and he started a lot of games
for the Broncos over the past couple of years.
And Brandon Jones on the last year of his deal,
Talino Funga has dealt with injuries in his career.
Safety I think enters the needs portion
of the Broncos roster building.
Definitely.
There's some guys in the draft.
But I mean, it just, it does stink to lose PJ
because he was a huge part of like the team culture.
I mean, he'd been in that locker room forever,
which is a piece of it.
But also just friends with everybody.
So it seems to seem go even just the beginning
like to get a $2,000 signing bonus
to go to the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp.
Like that's crazy.
Like you're going out there
and getting $2,000 to do it.
That's not very much money at all.
Obviously gets cut, comes the Broncos, figures out
his path to the roster is special teams.
And so he's just going to go up to the special teams
coordinators office every day
and ask a question he already knows the answer to
just to get the FaceTime.
And it works for him.
He's everything that you could want
and was able to build a seven year career
after $2,000 as an undrafted free agent.
I mean, you don't see numbers that low anymore.
Yeah, I mean, it's Chris Harris Jr.
Getting the $2,000 in doing what he did.
It's incredibly impressive.
And now there are some guys on this roster.
I do believe that safety becomes probably a need
for the Broncos that they need to address.
Somehow some people have the Broncos
going first round safety at pick 30.
But I don't want to fully overlook
the guys they have on their roster.
Devin Key, obviously an all pro
special teams player who has got better as a safety.
And then JL Skinner, man, I just JL is an all-star
special teamer.
And the Broncos put him in on defense,
especially in goal line situations
a little bit last year.
I think he has an opportunity
to grab that top backup safety role.
And we found out after the season
that he had been playing through an injury
all year long where he couldn't raise his hand
or his arm above his shoulder.
And now he says it's going to be awesome
play, pain free.
I think he's got a real opportunity there too.
I still think they add to the room.
But I'm excited to see what those two guys do.
Totally.
And also I do think they resigned Brandon Jones.
At some point in the next 12 months.
Yeah, and I mean, we talked a lot about draft
and develop, you know, if JL Skinner somehow
becomes a reliable player for you this year,
that is great drafting and developing.
Like, would they take him in six or seven
around if you develop a guy over a few years
and then you're able to have him kind of fill in
as a key depth piece for you?
That's just good roster building.
It's the Justin Sternod path.
Exactly.
It's like you'd have no path to play any sort of defense
for a few years, but you're good enough on special teams
that eventually you just, the opportunity comes to you.
But I do think that that is, you've got to add there.
Like when you look across the team where you have debt,
like you don't need another offensive lineman.
You're eight and nine guys deep at that point.
You don't need to add a defensive lineman.
Like you've got your whole roster filled out.
You definitely could, but you don't have to.
Like you don't have to add a cornerback.
Like you've got Chris Abrams drain
as your fifth corner right now.
Safety and linebacker, like those are spots
where there's just, there's room to add a guy
and there's a chance that guy is going to be on the field.
So I think you've got to, you've got to do something there.
So those are two pieces of news.
We talked about Drake Greenlaw.
We talked about PJ Locke.
Romeo Dobbs.
We know the Broncos had interest in Romeo Dobbs.
And then yesterday he signs a massive,
four years, $70 million deal with an additional $10 million
in incentives to get him up to $80 million potentially
with the New England Patriots.
And when I saw this deal, I thought, thank goodness,
the Broncos did not do this for Dobbs.
Even though it meant they weren't signing outside guy,
it was still a great deal to not be in on.
I completely agree.
I would rather have not made any deals
and give Romeo Dobbs $70 million.
It's crazy.
Just straight up.
And that's where I think to the draft.
Like, could you not draft someone who will be
similarly productive to Romeo Dobbs
in the second or third round?
No, I mean, you would think.
I mean, in the first round, certain, like,
what a Pat Bryant give you.
He has 400 yards with a couple injuries in there.
Meanwhile, you got 700 out of Dobbs.
Like, it's very possible.
But I mean, why I have just no interest in it is,
we've all talked about if they add to the receiver room,
make it a massive, massive splash.
Now the only way the Broncos can do that is the retreat
or absolutely hitting that out of the park
in the draft, likely a first round guy.
But now they're just not going to be able to do that.
Right now you'd be drafting a guy that is Troy Franklin
right now and Troy Franklin's three years younger
and has had many, many fewer years in the league to develop.
I mean, last year Romeo Dobbs, 55 catches,
724 yards, six touchdowns.
Troy Franklin, 65 catches 10 more,
709 yards, only 15 less and six touchdowns.
Again, I just, it very much seems like they are going to add
to the receiver position.
Please don't have it be a $20 million guy
because the Broncos are set.
I mean, they've got Cortland at 27.
We know exactly who Cortland is.
They have a bunch of these young guys
that are still developing.
They want to add someone, have it be a little Jordan Humphrey type
or that's kind of who I want them to add right now,
unless it is a massive trade and just blows everyone socks off.
Yeah, and that's where I also look and I'm like,
there might be someone I'm missing,
but I don't think anyone went off the board yesterday
where I was like, damn, Broncos could have
or should have made that deal.
That's where unfortunately they just aren't really any
guys on the board who I feel like the Broncos need to go get.
Like we talked about Clayis Campbell
because he's the combination of like cheap
because he's 40 and just plays a role that's open,
but there just aren't many of those guys.
So I'm curious.
I do.
And that's just not a day two free agent.
No, 100%.
It's a wave two, wave three type of free agent.
What I want to ask people in the Twitter chat
is who have the Broncos missed out on
that you think they should have been in and on.
And it can't be Romeo Dobbs at seven million a year.
It's got to be the market value.
Because I guess that's something I'm curious about.
I think people will point to Kenneth Walker
at 15 million potentially.
You're turning back.
TVN and David and Lloyd.
Oh, I'd throw Otton in there too.
Otton, yeah.
What did his contract come out to?
I don't think I ever saw the details.
What was, did Lloyd get 15 year?
Yep.
So then you have to ask yourself,
do you want Devon Lloyd or Justin, Alex and $2 million?
Like that, that's, they're gonna say Devon Lloyd,
but that potentially, yeah, that's fine.
But I'm just saying that's what goes into the equation there.
Were you able to see?
Three years, 30 million.
So 10 million a year.
Yeah, I think.
I would have liked that.
I would have liked it too.
That's kind of what I thought
he's gonna be about 10 million a year.
I would have been okay with that.
Certainly, no doubt.
I would have done the Kenneth Walker deal.
I was never as big on ETN,
even though I did think that that was
a more likely person for the Broncos,
given what Sean Peyton usually likes.
So I wasn't like, you know, throwing my hat
over not making that deal.
And then the Devon Lloyd one is just interesting.
I think that you could definitely,
like I would have been excited.
Broncos got Devon Lloyd.
But I also think that the interception number
will probably never be that high again in his career.
It will not.
And so you're, you're paying an inflated price
because of that.
Yep, 100%.
Yep, I completely agree.
So continue to let those come in.
I'm seeing some people say Tyler Algier.
Broncos.
We're in and on him.
And I, I wasn't, I didn't like him.
He's not good.
Just go get AJ Dylan.
Same guy.
So let's say three more Tyler Algier's out there.
AJ Dylan would be not a bad signing
for what that running back means.
Running back room needs.
How old is he?
He's got to be like 28.
Probably has a total of like 200 carries
in the last three seasons.
Oh, he did have so much older.
He had 12 for 60 this year.
So that's five per carry.
There you go on 27.
He's about to be 20.
Find that right.
The right defense with some undersized linebackers
and let him go.
Number four this year, he'd last played in 2023.
3.4 yards per carry for the packers 613.
OK, yeah, there you go.
Both carries in the last two years, not promising.
That is not.

in Max Crosby and the Raiders and the Ravens.
When you saw this and you realized it was actually real,
what did you think?
What went through your head?
I don't remember.
I don't think I had a bunch of immediate thoughts
until like when I just saw that the Ravens backed out,
that was shocking to me.
But I didn't have like,
I didn't immediately go to the conspiracies of,
oh, they're going to bring in Tray Hendrickson
and they got cold feet and all that.
I was kind of just waiting for the next thing.
When I saw immediately that like insiders were being like,
watch, they're going to go get Tray Hendrickson now.
That's when I was like, wow, this is nasty work.
Yeah, my first thought was,
so it was that four days ago,
I just wrote out some AFC power rankings
but like reset my brain for all this
and because that was right after the Max Crosby trade.
And so I decided, I had Ravens number one
of my power rankings because that team is just insane.
Like you've got eight all pros, something like that.
I guess losing Linderbaum would hurt him a little bit too.
But now you take Max Crosby out and you're just like,
ah, well, they're going to drop way down
and the Raiders are going to go way up.
Like I had the Raiders behind the Browns.
That's not the case anymore.
I had the Raiders behind the Dolphins.
That's not the case anymore.
But do you think you're going to stay there?
As of now, like they can afford it is the thing.
Like if this somebody comes and offers them
the equivalent draft package,
you would think they'd take it.
But I'm not sure anybody's going to offer that at this point.
And so as of now, I think he might just be on the team.
I think he just fits what they need so well.
Because as of right now, I would say,
what do you go draft at that 14th pick you got
assuming the trade goes through?
I'd say go get an edge rusher.
Didn't he post a video like celebrating that he got traded?
I don't think so.
He told them he did not want to be there.
Like that's why they traded him as he asked.
He asked to be traded because Pete Carroll's not there.
And obviously he had issues with Pete Carroll.
But it's still the same GM Tom Brady's still there.
It was still the same management that took him out last year
when he didn't want to be taken out.
So I think if they would have blown everything up
in the front office and moved on from all those guys,
he might have given him a chance still.
But he was the one that said I want to be out,
which just does make it awkward now.
Because now the price for Max Crosby just went from two ones.
Now it's going to be, you're going to get a bargain on Max Crosby.
And then so the Raiders have to decide,
do we want an unhappy Max Crosby here
or do we want half the price of what we were going to get for him?
Is there any way to mend this with Max Crosby?
He was in their facility.
The Raiders facility today at 6 a.m. working out,
which is maybe he's like, I saw it on the other side
and the deals that other teams are doing
are screwing me over.
So I want to stay here.
Maybe it does get worked out.
But it is, I mean, what an awkward situation
for the Raiders and man, the Ravens dirty work.
Yeah, for sure.
But I mean, for them, like other than the bad business
of like burning your business partners,
it was also good business for you got a high level pass
pressure for the same cost without the first run picks.
Well, for them, but that's why you don't do the trade
until right now.
Aren't they given like 40 million a year though?
30.
Oh, was it only 30?
I think it's like 20 set.
Okay.
So that's not as bad.
Because I think it was within like a million
of what Crosby's making.
Yeah, and then he would have cost them
since the Raiders take on a bunch of that.
He would cost him like 26 per year.
So it's not that different.
But for four years, you got him locked in on that.
And I mean, there's just a huge gap between
Trayhenderson and Max Crosby in my mind.
Like Trayhenderson had the big sack ears,
but Max Crosby, to me, is the second best defensive end
in the NFL.
And that's only because Miles Garrett had the crazy seasons.
We have to say it.
Like the fact he does all of this has three years in a row.
I think been double teamed more than any other player
in the NFL.
Like he's just, he's in who tweeted a Troy rank tweeted.
Like he's going to be a Hall of Famer, which I totally agree
with.
And there was some pushback.
Trayhenderson isn't like he can rush to pass
everybody gives you nothing is a run stop.
But is the difference to first round picks between the two players?
So I thought the two first round picks
and the $14 million a year, like, sign me up.
But when the salary gap isn't that big, sure, this makes sense.
Yeah, like, but also the way you were trading Trayhenderson
from Max Crosby, would you have to include two first round picks?
I don't think so.
No, no, no, but yet like, Trayhenderson is not a player
who scares me.
So let me ask a good player.
Good player.
Yeah, let me ask you from a Broncos perspective.
Is this good news that the trade was rejected and turned back?
Is it is a bad news for the Broncos?
Because I looked it as like, man, just what a mess the Raiders had.
They just gave out like $250 million of contracts.
Thinking Max Crosby was off their books.
Now they can still make Max Crosby work,
but they thought they were going to have this $30 million to work with.
They thought they were going to have two first round picks.
So the Raiders didn't want him.
The Raiders wanted this deal before.
But then I got a little bit pushed back about like, no,
now Max is back in that division.
What are you talking about?
Yeah, I think I shared this on the show yesterday where I was like,
I don't almost rather Max be on the Raiders than be on a team
that you could potentially play in the playoffs.
Good play, that's fair.
And I don't want to play him two times a year.
I would love for the Eagles to come in and swoop in and make a deal now.
That would be ideal.
But I don't know.
I also think that you have to include the fact that the Raiders
gave out contracts.
Sure, they can afford it right now.
But they gave out contracts thinking like,
oh, we're going to have these cheap draft pick contracts to be able to fill
the roster with other good players.
That they now obviously have two less first round picks than they were expecting.
So it ends up hurting the Raiders, I think,
long-term, more than short, you know,
in short-term you'd rather have the better player,
but they were making a long-term move
because I don't think they plan on being good in the short-term.
And also then, if they have to trade him to somewhere else,
it's going to be less than two first round picks.
Most likely.
That's the kicker is that like,
there's a chance they just turn around and trade him and get less,
which would obviously be worse for him.
But at the same time, like, I look at that team and say,
you gave all that money to Tyler Lindorbaum
because he's going to be a pro-bola every year.
Like, he's one of the best centers in the NFLs.
There's a pro-bola.
Drop hours, he's going to be a pro-bola.
You got Max Crosby now, he's going to be a pro-bola.
You wind up with Ashton Genti,
who, if they get the run game working, could he break out?
And all of a sudden, you start looking and say,
like, what if, what if either Nicobie Dean or Quay Walker works?
The two linebackers they signed were part of the national championship Georgia defense.
Those were their linebackers.
Like, if you hit on one of those,
all of a sudden you're starting to look at him like,
oh, you actually have top-end talent now.
They don't have the depth,
but they do have a path to actually being like,
if everything works out,
they could be a good team in the next couple of years,
which wasn't their plan.
Like, they were kind of more on the tear down and rebuild.
So, they're definitely way more scary to me now.
Like, I wouldn't be surprised at their 500 team this year
when I thought, yeah, that they would be at the bottom of the AFC.
Can we talk about the ridiculous contract they gave out to Linderbomb?
Yeah, I mean, they were just throwing money.
The highest paid center was 19, right?
Was 19 million dollars a year.
They gave him 27 million dollars a year.
It's crazy.
They had to pay 8 million more a year
from the second highest paid center in order for them to get him.
That's what I was gonna say.
That's the tax you have to pay when you're a trash franchise.
And you're a trash franchise in free agency.
Right. And it's just like, how can we get him?
We have to make him an offer you can't refuse that.
It's just like, well, I have to do this for my family.
Yeah.
And I think reportedly the Ravens were offering him 23 or 24 million
to stay, which is already four or five more than the second highest paid center.
And Ryan, they did exactly that.
Raven just cut brazen the price until he said, like, I can't turn this out.
I know. Yeah.
This is like 20 million dollars over the course of this contract.
Right. But that's just what, like if you want the guy who's been in the pro bowl
each of last three seasons, like offensive Linder, just expensive.
And so if you're the Raiders trying to get one of those guys, that's how you do it.
Yeah. The problem is he's no longer
going to be blocking for Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson, right, which helps you get to
probals.
But he is going to be blocking for action genty.
So we'll see.
I know you're out on that.
I mean, we're talking about a Surefire Hall of Famer versus first round pick, who is
a disappointment.
Last year, I was saying Surefire Hall of Famer.
You were saying that the metrics are pretty good, but they lead the NFL in yards after
contact, pretend like it's just the Raiders offensive line was so bad.
There's no chance.
I think, I think they, I wouldn't have gone with the linebackers.
I would have added more to the offense and just built around that.
But by taking the balanced approach, I do think immediately that leads to more, more
success.
You know what's speaking of Derek Henry, something I was reminded of yesterday was when I had
or we had the take that the Broncos should sign Derek Henry when he was a free agent.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oakland Gordon came after us because he's some of your turning on Javonte.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I think that was a good take on our part.
Yeah, it was.
It was a good take.
Didn't he call us a trash show or something like the trash emoji, but I reshield him.
I'm going to have.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I'm going to take some sort of like Broncos first Raiders second in the AFC West bet.
That's going to go.
Maybe just Raiders in front of chiefs might be the answer.
The chat is not riding with your Raiders love.
I will be picking the race when it is last with a bullet.
Yeah.
I just know.
I don't know.
All right.
Let's dive into these super chats right now, speaking of the chat.
And we got a couple from our guy named dog who says, I love Singleton and Dobbins, but
not going to lie.
I'm definitely a bit worried about this upcoming season.
Just got to stay patient and trust the system.
And then he continues.
It says, I truly believe they tried to get someone Travis ETN wanted to go home and the
poverty jets wanted to keep breeze.
I'm like, RK, give me a gamble, been a stressful season for all Broncos fans.
Can't let it tear us apart.
I'd imagine stressful off season.
It's only been two days, guys.
We need to come down here.
It's going to be okay.
One thing that I'm curious, or are you going to bring up Brandon, I you know, you can
bring them up.
I'm curious what people to people's reaction would be to the Broncos signing Brandon,
I think they would love them signing anyone right now.
Just an outside.
I think I think if JK and Alex were different jerseys last year, everyone be viewing this
differently.
Yeah.
I think for sure, but I think people are going to say no right now in the chat, but I
think if the Broncos did sign Brandon, I you people would be, we'd get excited about
it.
Let's have, let's have a longer discussion about IU himself tomorrow.
Okay.
Um, and uh, let me see Bronco, I mean, breeze hall would be a Bronco if he hit for the
agency, the jestess, they didn't allow it, um, it'll be a Bronco in week 10.
Yep.
Oh, man, that would be something.
We'll see.
Did you guys see his tweets throughout the first day of free agency when the jets were
paying everyone?
He's like, apparently we've got plenty of money here to pay just looking for my contract
essentially.
Uh, Broncos only says, uh, complainers are loud, realist, trust, Sean Payton and George
Peyton, uh, that's true.
I mean, there is, I think it's a very good point.
Broncos only there, there's allowed minority for a lot of things.
And that might, I think it's the case probably here.
I've had a lot of people reach out to me and be like, uh, I am not freaking out.
Like it's not all the fans that are freaking out.
Do you own did a poll on the chat and said the results were like an average was a beef
or the Broncos off season so far.
That was yesterday.
There we go.
Good.
The negativity always sounds louder.
It does.
Well, the other piece of it is like people, the casual Broncos fans, when the news happens,
jump on the emergency pods and they have big numbers and the, the people who don't
listen every day, but show up in those moments are just the casuals and the casuals are
angry.
Not all, not, I mean, but the people, the people who show up here every
single day are like the more reasonable takes.
And so when you show up to those other shows and there's just all these random people
here, it makes sense that those are the angry ones.
The person who said the Broncos are going to get destroyed by the Raiders this year was
a name I'd never seen in the.
And this last one, let's end it with Rusty Cleveland says appreciate everything you
all do for the fan base.
We appreciate you, Rusty Cleveland, you are in here all the time.
We appreciate all of your support.
We've got a very special guest joining us tomorrow.
Plus, let's talk a little brand in IUK and maybe we'll talk about a Broncos free agent
signing.
