With the first wave of free agency in the books,
we take a look at the box new draft needs
and which positions are going to be the most important
to not only take early, but that they really need to hit on.
You are locked on Buccaneers.
Your Daily Tampa Bay Buccaneers podcast.
Part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
Your team every day.
What's up and welcome into this episode of Locked On Bucks.
Your Daily Podcast covering the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
The number one sports podcast network.
I'd like to thank you for making Locked On Bucks.
You first listen to review every day.
I am your host, James Yarco. Right or over at Bucks Report.
I've been covering the Buccaneers for over a decade.
And I am here with you every Monday through Friday,
along with the everydayers. And for that, I want to share my appreciation
for your continued support of the show.
Taking a look at a mock draft and doing a couple of our own.
That's all coming up in a little bit.
But let's take a look at the Buccaneers draft needs.
Now after the first week of free agency has been completed.
The Bucks addressed some of their needs, but they are far from being dumb.
Question is, how many more are they going to address some free agency?
Or are things going to stay pretty quiet on that front until after the draft,
when they need to finish filling out the roster?
As of now, they have signed Alex Anzaloni, Kenneth Feynwell,
A. Sean Robinson, Al Kudin, Muhammad,
Dan Feney, Miles Killabrew, and Jake Browning.
They also, in addition to Dan Feney, brought back K-Datin
and co-keeps.
So, tight end is no longer a need.
They have K-Datin, co-keeps,
Pain Durham, Devon Culp.
You have Linebacker, defensive lineman, edge rusher,
backup quarterback, and a running back that you have brought in.
And you have another running back contender,
but have not officially signed yet.
You lost Jamel Dean, Mike Evans, Charlie Heck,
Rashad White, and Christian Isian.
Then you're still waiting on whether or not Lavade David is going to return.
That means, in my opinion,
the updated needs of the Buccaneers are another edge rusher,
another linebacker, cornerback, interior offensive lineman,
defensive lineman depth,
and then potentially another receiver.
Now, you don't have to bring in another receiver.
You can get by and you're going to be perfectly fine
with the receiver room they have now.
Chris Dodd, Winnetka, Buka, Jalen McMillan,
Tess Johnson, Cam Johnson, however,
if you find yourself in a position to bring in a guy that's 6'3",
6'4", maybe even a little bit bigger,
that would certainly help the situation down in the red zone,
in the end zone, give yourself that little bit of extra size.
The biggest need right now today is Linebacker.
You need another starter.
If Lavade comes back, that does help a lot,
but as the team is constructed at this moment,
you need another starter.
You cannot have Syvacier Dennis out there starting again this season.
All the other jobs have been theoretically filled,
so that is the big glaring hole left on this roster.
If Lavante doesn't come back, you may still need two more.
You have Anzolone and Boss as your current starting linebackers
and the Nick Jackson is the only other one under contract.
You can go out, you can go out,
you can sign another one.
In addition to drafting one, Matt Milano is still out there,
Bobby O'Varique is still out there, though,
I think he's going to cost a little bit more
than what the box wants to spend on the position at this stage.
Your main track is still out there,
so you do have some options.
It would probably be best to find an affordable,
better end to come in and play a depth or a rotational role
and then draft a rookie in the first couple of rounds
to be your other starter.
But that is the one big glaring hole
when you take a look at the starting lineup.
The next biggest need is still edge rushing.
Muhammad is a solid ad that he is not in every down player.
At least he's not an effective every down player.
He's a huge liability and rug defense,
so you still need help there.
The box are not going to trade for Max Frosty,
so you're looking to the draft as well for that position.
I like some of the second round options
as fits for the box.
Accus, Thomas, young,
those names that we mentioned a lot on the show
and we will continue to mention a lot
throughout the draft process.
But the box may look with pick number 15,
Mesador is a name that is starting to pick up some steam
among box fans and in among box social media
because of his foot issues he's starting to slide down the draft board.
So the medicals may not check out there.
That might be a red flag.
The J-slide is just not willing to take the risk on.
But then you have cashiest how, you know,
that is a name that you could keep an eye on.
He has been linked to the buckneers throughout some of these mock drafts.
I don't care what his arm length is.
If Ruben Bain, you know, although I sincerely believe he is not going to fall to the box.
But if he does, that is a guy that you can see
but if he does, that is a guy that you do not hesitate to draft.
I don't think David Bailey from Texas Tech is going to fall either.
So how in Mesador are your likely two options at 15?
And I'm not sure I love either player.
I will say I like both of them more than I would like killed the bulk at 15.
But I would rather have how between the two just because of the medicals.
That is a huge concern to me.
When he's on the field, Mesador is an absolute monster.
But is it going to be a collage a can see situation where you bring him in and he can't even get to 10 games a season.
That makes me really, really nervous.
There isn't a lot left you can do in pre-agency.
Joey Bosa is still out there, but your career rotation is Diabi Muhammad Nelson Walker and Brasqua.
Nelson is probably your starter based on Muhammad's limitations.
So, you know, that isn't going to be the player that you want to have out there to elevate.
Yeah, yeah, Diabi, you're going to need to really hit a home run in the draft.
You could be looking at two swings there as well.
You could have four of your seven picks, be linebackers and edge rush.
Third biggest need to me is cornerback.
You have no depth there whatsoever.
Morrison and McCollum are your starters.
Parrish is your nickel.
Then you have Josh Hayes and Damarian rules.
Yikes.
You might be looking at a third or a fourth round pick being spent on corner, depending on how the board falls.
You could see a corner go as high as 15.
But you still need another one in free agency.
You lost two along with your backup nickel.
So, JJ Roberts is filling that role right now.
And it's still kind of the same names that we've mentioned before for the Buccaneers.
Jeff Acuda, Kair Elab, Dory Jackson.
Now, if light wants to get super petty and pick up Marshawn Latham or just in case the Bucks play San Francisco in the playoffs, he is floating out there.
You know, if Jason wants to spend big money, you just had a luxurious need released by the Titans.
There's for school Douglass out there for around four to five million dollars.
So you, you do have some options there.
You know, in free agency, but if you bring one in, you know, it's to me.
It's better to go with the cheaper guy that can contribute on special teams and can fill in if needed as a rookie develops.
You know, it also just so we're clear I'm completely kidding about Latham or I'm sure Bucks fans want him on the team about as much as they would want Cam Jordan.
But you know, to me, you look to free agency to fill the Kindle build or spot.
You look to the draft to fill the Jamel Dean spot next on my list is interior offense of live death.
You have Elijah Klein, Dan Peaney, Luke Haggard out there now.
I need one more.
It could be a guy that can play either guard spot to be a center that you can cross train to play guard.
I don't care as long as they're reliable and can provide depth along the interior somewhere.
Tackle, I think you're okay there.
Chakwuma, he can play either tackle spot.
He did decently last year.
He's your first man up.
You're looking for him to take a bigger step forward.
Then you have Marshall corner.
But there are some tackles that you can get cheap in free agency.
If you feel that's a spot that you need to upgrade.
It isn't going to cost you as much.
You're better off getting someone there.
Then all day free of the draft.
Next is more defensive wine debt.
I love the signing of Robinson to replace Logan Hall.
But you still don't have great games now.
So unless you're bringing great games back.
And it doesn't appear that the bucks are going to you need another guy there to go with Elijah Roberts and Elijah Simmons.
Just a little bit more reinforcements would make me feel a whole lot better about the roster as a whole.
And then finally, wider seat again.
You don't have to go this round.
I just wouldn't object if the bucks spent a third or a fourth rounder on a big receiver.
I got a lot of grief for a mock draft.
I did as a joke and posted on Twitter where I took edge rushers with every pick except the third round where I took Malachi fields out of Notre Dame.
People did not care for that one bit.
And I'm not sure if they don't like fields.
They don't want to receiver.
You know, if they didn't understand that it was fully a joke where I took six edge rushers and a receiver.
But you know, him specifically a six foot four receiver in the third round that can be explosive seemed like a really smart and solid pickup.
Again, I think the bucks are fine and can succeed with the receiver room that they have.
But if they see a chance on a day to guy to add a little bit more size to the room.
I think it would be wise to do so that would set you up to have the same receiving core for the next half decade.
And then you can have all these guys that have grown and developed together as part of your next generation roster.
It can wait.
Just don't be surprised if it does end up happening.
I did take a look at a recent post free agency mock draft to see what they have the bucket years doing that is coming up next on today's episode of lock on box part of the lock on podcast network.

All right taking a look at the three round lock trap from CBS sports is Josh Edwards where he basically reacts to free agency and the needs address by teams.
So we're going to see what he has in store for the book mirrors and a 15 he has the bucks taking Auburn and Drusher Keldrick Volk and Edward says quote.
Volk is a is young but not productive a description that has fit Trayvon Walker Shamar Stewart etc those players tend to be quality edge centers at the very least and hope the hope is that they can expand their past rush profile.
Tampa Bay needs help rushing the pastor pastor after getting shut out in free agency and full has the length the team covet and quote.
I'm going to say this I don't hate but I'm not a huge fan of this bit I don't think the bucks are looking for another project at edge rush yes Volk has the intangibles in the raw talent but he is far from a finished product they need someone that can come in and be an immediate impact got.
So I just don't see Volk as that level of player he can absolutely develop into that player yes i'm not going to argue that.
You know that point for people who really like him it's just that at this stage for the bucket years they need someone who is more pro ready than what Volk offers those guys that we keep bringing up a second round targets are more pro ready.
Then Volk is they are going to get higher snap counts than Volk will as a rookie and you're asking.
Then James why is he projected to go in the first round and guys like gave a kiss and arm asin Thomas are projected to go in the second well it's because he has more upside he has a higher ceiling than those other players as Edwards mentioned guys like Shamar Stewart could be more impactful players in the pros as their career.
So on but you also run the risk that they never live up to their capabilities you guys remember Noah Spence guys like that are the ones that have all the talent in the world but just don't maximize on that potential Volk is a project guys taken after him that I probably wouldn't have or I would have been more interested in.
CJ Allen Kaden McDonald TJ Parker a key method or in this mock even had Zion Young going at the end of the first round and he is a name that we have mentioned as a second round target for the bucks I would be okay with it I could see the draw I could rationalize it but it's just not my favorite pick in the second round he has the bucks taking linebacker Jacob Rodriguez you guys already know no complaints for me here.
Love that pick now had to take and CJ Allen instead of fall in the first round now you're not getting Rodriguez and you're looking at guys like Brandon Sissay or Chris Johnson at cornerback arm a satomas gave a kiss are still there as edge rushers you could have gone with Alan and Thomas or Alan and a kiss which I think suits their needs a little bit better but.
Either way you're getting an edge and a linebacker with the first two picks Rodriguez to me is the better plug and play a linebacker right now while I think Akis or Thomas would at least be better immediate players than Volk but may not be as good over time so you have to play the game I talked about it on the bucks watch out Monday night you have to play that game of which direction do you go in to get the most overall talent that you could possibly add to this.
Football team more specifically to the defense of side of this football team then in the third round we go off the waves he has the bucks taking LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeyer at 77 I hate this so much Edward says float Baker may feel turns 31 in April he's also coming off an injury and entering the final year of the game.
I don't care what his rationale is looking at this team as it's constructed right now it doesn't make any sense especially in the third round this is what I'm going to show you.
This is a round where Jason Light has done some of his best work and you're going to throw that pick away on a quarterback that will not see the field as a rookie.
Like unless Baker goes down and then Browning goes down then he's dressing to sit behind Connor Bayesalak he's not seeing the field he's not going to dress for a game after they resigned Bayesalak and they signed Browning on top of that if you are going to replace Baker after the season you do it with a quarterback in next year's draft when it's allegedly.
Going to be one of the best quarterback classes we have seen in recent years this isn't the time to be doing that it's right up there with taking Kyle trash in the second round in 2021 you know when you could have gotten someone that could at least had you know could have at least had a shot at helping the team.
You know guys that went after Nusmeyer that the Bucks could have used for the cornerback Devon Moore Auburn interior offensive lineman Conor Lou Michigan edger usher Derek Moore Ohio State cornerback Davis in big business.
You know South Carolina defensive lineman Nick Barrett all of these guys could have made a bigger impact for the Bucks this year in 2026 then Nusmeyer.
You want to take a quarterback that's going to do nothing but sit and hold a clipboard find take Luke Altmeyer in the seventh round he can throw he can run but he's not going to see the field.
This is just a painfully wasted pick based on your speculation that maybe Baker won't be back to his normal self and won't get a contract extension.
You cross that bridge if and when you get to not by wasting a third round pick on a guy that honestly isn't going to be very good he's likely not going to be starting caliber at any point during his career.
Let somebody else take him and try to develop him and deal with him being another Kyle trash.
You don't waste that pick not with the way this roster is right now that's why I hate other than that I would say that this was a decent draft by Edwards the combination of folk and Rodriguez is completely acceptable Rodriguez would be an immediate starter.
If Lavonte isn't back and fall we'll see where he winds up as you know where he ends up as far as maximizing his talent but that third round pick just sent me.
If this was the Bucks actual hall I would come on to the show and give them an F I would eat it but I have a mock draft for two of my own that is coming up next on today's episode.

It's a brag or anything but are these new seven ninety nine meet in three boxes kind of a big deal the other guys give you just one side we give you three sides not to brag you get a meaty sandwich curly fries mutts sticks a sweet treat and a drink all for just seven ninety nine it's more meal for your money more meal for your money more meal for your money what would that come from.
Rap and things up here on today's episode of locked on box and I was playing around with the mock draft machine and there's one that I'm going to give you in a little bit that I know I know for a fact would cause box fans to completely have a meltdown on draft night but I think it would be incredible however we're going to start with this one where I trade out of.
Out of pick 15 now normally I don't do trades now we'll do some throughout the process at some point I'm going to do my annual mock where I trade out of every single one of the bucks original draft picks but in this box I hated what I was looking at on the board.
And I saw that I had eleven teams interested in trades that's because Georgia tackled and row Freelink had fallen to me teams were trying to move up in order to get a starting caliber left tack so I traded with the chargers I moved back to pick 22 in addition to getting pick 55 so for them to jump up seven spots I got an additional second rounder this year in a 22 I took Texas A&M edge rusher cash.
This is how solid player insane speed coming off the edge he's a little bit of a project not to the level that Kendrick focus you can play him immediately though he isn't an every down guy not yet anyway.
So now you have that rotation with how Muhammad Nelson and Walker to go along with Yaya Diabi it's not perfect but it is a vast improvement over last season.
At 46 Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez you remember when we were getting into the third round in these mock drafts you remember those good old days that is absolutely under no circumstances happening at this point he often doesn't even get to Tampa's pick in the second round I seen him going a few spots ahead to the Saints on more than a few occasions you're lucky to see him reach the forties.
This is a do it all plug and play starter and he would be an absolute demon in the middle of this defense pairing him next to Alex and Saloni would be absolutely fantastic with the pick that I got from the chargers at 55 I get Illinois edge rusher gave a kiss now the edge rotation is filled out a kiss is better against the run the Muhammad or how and can put his hand in the dirt to get accurate from a three point stance so that first utility.
First utility is going to be something that Todd bowls really loves and now I much more confident that although the bucks don't have that elite edge rusher yet they have taken two bites of the apple.
Now one of those guys has the makeup to become that do I love the idea of those third and long situations those third and 28 situations where you can put a kiss on the line along with beat of air and collage a can see with Muhammad and Diabi coming off.
Diabi coming off from the edges that is a pun of past rush potential being able to get after the opposing quarterback that is what you want to see and then of course you can still rotate at the same with how in Muhammad and Diabi we still have David Walker out there this would be a just a constant carousel of fresh legs and fresh bodies that is really going to just be night and day.
Compared to what the bucks past rush was last season third round pick at 77 I take a high estate cornerback Davis in big business in.
He's a big fast corner solid and man solid zone he's not super elite at either but he gives the team depth on the outside with some serious size and can help on special teams.
Fourth round at 116 Notre Dame guard Billy shroud here is your interior swing depth he is great in run blocking he has some work to do in past pro but he is serviceable for now that will get better over time hopefully the bucks wouldn't have to use him at all throughout the season but he can play all three interior positions it needed.
Fifth round 153 I took a tight end and this I kind of got stuck in the best player available situation but honestly it's an upgrade over Devon Culp so I took Texas A&M tight end Nate Borkershire solid hands pretty good Walker as far as this tight end class is concerned I think this is a guy that could wind up working his way up to tight end to behind Kate Otten before the end of his rookie season it isn't a need but it does make people happy.
It does make the overall team better sixth round pick 194 Texas Tech safety Cole was new ski.
I know bowls like to say these to be a little bit smaller but was new ski is six foot four in this guy can fly not great against the run but really really impressive in coverage again provide some depth there after losing Christian is Ian he can help on special teams.
Fifth round it's a dark throw at 229 I took Georgia wide receiver Colby Young if it works great if not oh well he's a six foot four receiver so that gives you that size that you lost with Mike Evans you know he's able to box out defenders which is really going to be helpful in the red zone in those goal to go situations hopefully he can contribute on special teams and earn his way onto the roster but I am not going to cry at the seventh rounder doesn't make the team.
Truth be told my options were pretty slim I went with the big guy that could be a playmate so two edges a linebacker a corner of safety interior offensive line depth a tight end and a receiver it addresses a lot of needs with guys that can play immediately now real quick I had done another one and it came to be my pick at 15 and I was shocked to see who was sitting there.
So I had the chance to take a high estate wide receiver carnell taped now I will say especially after the jalen waddle trade to Denver there is like a point zero zero zero zero one percent chance that tape would actually fall this far but out of sheer more curiosity I wanted to see what would happen if I took a receiver in the first round for the second round.
For the second year in a row to set up kind of that Evans Godwin combo of the future with the six foot four carnell tape and then a mecca buka so I drafted from there I got armace and Thomas in the second round at edge russia
pit linebacker Kyle Lewis in the third round I went back to the well with Notre Dame guard Billy shroud in the fourth to get that offensive line depth Washington you guys know the box love their Washington guys Washington cornerback Ephesians prysok in the fifth Tennessee defensive lineman Brian Eason in the sixth and then Duke edge russia Benson Anthony Jr. in the seventh.
This is why I tell people not to freak out after the first round because if this ended up being the box draft hall I think most fans could get behind it it addressed almost every need outside of corner and that wasn't for lack of trying it was lack of viable options when it was my turn to be on clock and you end up getting the best receiver in the draft
you know to pair with met and Jay Mac for the next decade now that's all people would focus on is oh my god they wasted the first round pick on a wide receiver again with all these defensive needs but I would be hyped if the bucks ended up with that level of draft hall you know after having carnell take fall in your lap and you turn around and you still get those players
you know let me know what your thoughts are and which mock draft you would go with and if you think take falling to 15 is one of those situations where you have to go with him just because he is far in a way the best player at his position and you'll worry about the needs as you get into day two and day three but that is going to do it for this episode please check out everything going on on Twitter at locked on bucks at Jay Arco underscore bucks Instagram it's
