Bucks ownership has made it very clear to youngness, either you sign this extension or expect
to be traded this off season.
You are Lockdown Bucks, your daily Milwaukee Bucks podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast
Network, your team every day.
What to do y'all?
I'm Camille Davis.
Welcome to Lockdown Bucks, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network now.
The number one sports podcast network, and I'm coming to you on a Friday morning when
I didn't expect to be still kind of recovering from this upper respiratory infection that
has taken your girl out.
But I am woken to some news from Ramona Shellburn of ESPN with an article titled Why a Youngest
Trade Might Be Even More Complicated This Summer.
And after reading the article, I figured we had to do not even emergency podcast, but a
bonus podcast about this because we finally heard from Bucks ownership.
And that's been an area this season that has been one of the worst seasons in franchise
history where I've been like, hey, got to hear from ownership.
And we have.
So the way we're going to structure this bonus episode, going to go through the article
first highlights from it, key takeaways, and then just kind of gives me my opinion to
some questions that I have because honestly, even though the Bucks ownership group has drawn
a line in the sand, so to speak, this honestly leaves me with more questions than
answers at this point, right?
Okay, let's get into it.
So Ramona Shellburn of ESPN apparently had a 90 minute meeting interview with Bucks co owners
West Edens and Jimmy Haslam.
And the big takeaway here is that they said, and I quote from West Edens here, Yannis
is going into the last year of his contract.
So one of two things will happen either he will be extended or he will be traded.
The likelihood you'll just let him kind of play out the last year.
We can't afford that.
It's not consistent with what is good for the organization.
That's not a Yannis issue.
That's any player that's in their last year and quote.
The article goes on and talks about how rival executives,
league insiders, honestly, even questioned the situation is that simple.
You have interviews with a lot of people who were kind of like the things I'm
a walkie that are happening are actually kind of different because the Bucks have a unique
ownership group.
And with that structure, it has actually made it kind of difficult for opposing
franchises to understand and identify who was actually running the team.
The article breaks down the ownership dynamics a bit more.
It talks about how West Edens and Jimmy has.
I'm apparently have a good relationship and they like working with each other.
And they know they have to make some tough decisions this summer after the year
that this team has had.
And they're happy to go into that Fox hole together.
An interesting note that was said in the article made mention of the fact
that it seems as if Haslums,
how do I say this influence on the organization is continuing to grow?
I do think that it's not like notable that the article called out the fact
that West Edens overall wealth has decreased about 40%.
And I say that because to me that makes the same as if one thing that is forth
coming for this team is that Jimmy Haslum might become that big dog in the front
office if you know what I mean here.
So that's a piece of it.
So apparently one source close to the situation reportedly said that quote,
the more time that goes on, the more power Jimmy's going to have in long term,
it's going to be his way.
So he's not going to let the guy that's passing controlling ownership on
eventually dictate what it looks like and quote.
So that's notable, right?
But all in all here, it talks about like the GM search and how that caused the
the horse higher cause some dysfunction between Edens and Lazarie,
who used to be, you know, one of the owners of the Bucks team and that their
relationship kind of deteriorated from that higher.
The article also kind of goes over some moves.
The Bucks have made the waving of Damien Lillard, the trade of Drew holiday,
the signing of Miles Turner, all the things, right?
But again, to me, it goes back to the first thing I said, either Yana signs
the extension or he is traded.
And the reason that that gives me more questions than anything else is because
Yana's isn't even eligible to sign an extension until October 1st.
October 1st is when he can sign the extension.
So now I have questions.
We're going to dive into those questions right after this.
There is nothing like being able to be live in an NBA arena, the crowd,
the energy, the moment, getting tickets, that part hasn't always been so simple.
And that is why game time has become the go to app for scoring tickets, fast,
and without the hassle.
It puts the advantage back where it belongs.
And that is with the fans.
The thing I love most about game time is being able to see the all in price
up front.
There are no surprise fees at checkout.
Also, you can see the view from your seat before buying the ticket.
So if you're going somewhere new, it gives you some confidence and some comfort
of being able to understand what you'll be seeing once you get into the arena.

Right.
Not only am I on the struggle bus deal with this congestion.
My light's going off.
Everything's going off.
Everything is going wrong.
And one of the worst seasons, the bugs have experienced.
But as I mentioned, some questions that I now have after hearing from ownership, right?
Because here's the thing.
The, the ultimatum, the line that's being drawn in the sand.
I honestly don't have a problem with that.
If you don't want Yana's playing out the last year of his contract, just scot free.
Fine.
I get that.
You're going to trade them or you're going to have them signed fine.
I'm cool with that.
That's fine by me, right?
But given the fact that he cannot sign this extension until October,
when is the decision actually made?
Because this is a big summer for the bucks.
Okay.
When you have a season like the bugs have just had, if you have not listened to
Justin's solo pie breaking down this jazz game, please go and check that one.
Now he did a great job of explaining how the box, the bucks,
have continued to find a new rock bottom this season and all the numbers that go into that, right?
And when you have a season like that, changes have to be made on multiple levels,
not just the roster, the coaching staff, possibly even the front office.
So when you have these many big decisions to make, you can't delay on them, right?
You can't delay.
So if Yana's can't sign until October,
are the bucks just planning to go strictly off of a verbal commitment?
Because that can be risky too.
Because let's say Yana says, okay, I plan to sign.
I want to stay in Milwaukee.
What if the bucks then make some other moves, right?
They can disrupt the roster that they feel can actually contend for a championship.
And then Yana sees that roster and he's like, I don't think the roster is good enough.
Then what?
Then what?
Now are you trading him after you've already exhausted more assets?
Because one thing the ESPN article also did mention is that maybe the bucks go after other teams to stress assets.
I don't know, the stress assets don't sound like a great way to build a contender to me.
They're distressed for a reason, right?
So you got that.
Or what if Yana just says, I don't know if I'll sign the contract.
I don't know if I'm going to sign my extension in October.
It depends on what you guys do this summer.
You could still end up in the situation where you have to trade him after you've already traded away more future assets.
We know the bucks have that 31 pick.
They have that 33 first round pick.
They also have this 26 first round pick that's looking like it's going to be a top 10 pick for this team in a draft that has lots of talent.
You don't want to be in a situation where you've traded those assets off to put together a team you think that's going to have Yana's that then does not have Yana's and now you have to restart everything all over again.
Like that feels like a really tricky position to be in all of this feels like a really tricky position to be in if all you can go off of is a verbal commitment because verbal commitments can change.
I mean, we heard Yana's throughout the season of saying I want to be in Milwaukee.
I love Milwaukee, but if my mind changes in six to seven months, so be it.
I'm human.
We heard Yana is talking to Malika Andrews and saying like, hey, what I said after that 21 championship about, hey, this is all I get.
I'm fine.
No, I would not be fine with that because I've had my steak right.
What if Yana's find some steak and eggs and other food somewhere else that he wants to go after know what I mean.
So the big thing for me here is when is the decision going to be made because I don't think a verbal commitment alone is enough and you can't get anything more than a verbal commitment because he can't sign the extension until October.
So how do you proceed?
How do you proceed?
That's the question that I have.
I'm really curious to know what you guys think about this too.
I do wonder if this is just kind of the bucks for an office putting this out there.
Because we did hear Yana's also mentioned himself of saying like, I don't want to be traded.
Hey, if ownership wants to do something different, then that's not on me.
And maybe ownership doesn't have a problem with being the quote unquote bad guy in the situation.
If it's for what they deem as being best for the franchise, we're going to have to really wait and see how this continues to play out.
Again, I'm left with a few more questions and answers at this point, although it is good.
The end from the guys hope to hear more from them and John Horace as the season continues to wrap because the bucks tragic number is at six combinations of wins from the hornets and losses from the bucks.
And honestly, I think we'll hit that number within a week.
So I hope to hear more from them.
And if the ownership group has a date in their mind that they're like, hey, if by this date, you know, has a big firm verbally from Yana's, which again, personally.
I'm if you own trust in just verbal commitments.
How do you proceed?
So although this season looks like it's coming to an end, I think it's next 13 games.
It seems as if the drama, the noise, the conversation around this franchise is not going to get any quieter.
So make sure you continue checking out walked on bugs.
We will have y'all covered through it all, even through the illnesses as we face of being sick and tired from the season.
Or in my case, just sick, just sick.
