Welcome in to another edition of Bucky and BK.
Today is Thursday.
March 26th, 20th and 26th.
And the Bucky and I have a lot to get into.
Short show on the radio shide tonight.
But going to hours on digital, we will talk Texas Purdue.
It is game day.
The sweet 16 is here.
Can the longhorns pull off another upset in advance to the Elite 8?
We'll let you hear from Sean Miller and give our keys to a longhorn victory.
Speaking of games, Texas baseball.
Opening up a three game series against Oklahoma.
Tonight at the dish, we will preview that.
We'll let you hear from Jim Schloss Nagel as well.
Coming off of Texas' disappointing loss earlier in the week to Houston.
MLB opening day is here.
Bucks Yankees got a win last night.
The Rangers and Astros are underway.
We've got more college basketball to get into.
The BBK news and so much more.
We appreciate y'all spending some of your Thursday with us.
It's a buck off Thursday edition of the program.
Buck on it to you.
My man, how are you today?
I'm doing well, man.
And the same to you.
And it is another marvelous day here in the dripping springs metropolitan area, as I call it,
the metropolitan area.
That's right.
And it's going to be a nice weekend for those that are looking for temperatures to come down slightly.
You get to be 75.
That's great temperatures for spring.
But we're past spring.
We're way past that kind of stuff.
We're into the summer.
But we'll get a spring like day tomorrow, then right back at it again on Sunday, Monday,
and all of the next week in the high 80s.
So enjoy it.
Enjoy the weekends.
Nice little breeze.
And I hope you're doing well, my friend.
Yeah, I made it to San Jose in one piece.
We've got 70 degree temperatures here.
Oh, it's beautiful getting off the plane last night.
Yeah, doing this show for me.
Sinesta select in downtown San Jose.
Oh, yeah, much better hotel experience than the Atlanta stay that I had for SEC media days last summer.
But yeah, made it here in one piece just a few miles away from the site of tonight's Texas
Purdue sweet 16 matchup at the SAP center, AKA the shark tank.
Shark tank, huh?
Home of the San Jose sharks in the national hockey league.
So that'll be the side.
There will be a giant shark head at the top of the arena somewhere.
I can't imagine they'll put that on display for the basketball games, but that's their bit here in San Jose.
Yeah, I mean, it's a nice little quaint little town.
It's not real big.
But it's lots of things have gone, you know, go through.
Hey, I even get to see some of that stuff on my westerns.
I hear about San Jose, you know, on my bunch of my westerns.
So I'm familiar with the area.
I'm kind of familiar with the area.
Good day to the soldiers out of Florida, Texas, the soldiers in the state of Texas and folks.
All those that fight for us each and every day all over this wide wide world.
Thank you all so very much for what you do for all of us.
We do appreciate that until you and your families.
Be safe out here.
Yes, indeed.
Well, diving into this game tonight.
I think the biggest storyline for Texas is the health of starting point guard Jordan Pope,
who of course tweaked his ankle late in the long horns win this past Saturday against Gonzaga.
He was walking off the court with a noticeable limp after that game in Portland.
Obviously the long horns have had a few days off.
He returned home for a couple of days.
They flew to San Jose on Tuesday.
Did some practice yesterday?
The injury report for this game came out last night and Jordan Pope was listed as questionable.
Now he's told everybody who will listen that he is going to give it a go tonight.
But here was Sean Miller yesterday when he was asked about the help of his senior point guard.
Yeah, first Jordan, you know, he's dealing with the lower leg situation.
We're hopeful that he can, we've given him a lot of rest since our last game.
And I think he's really responding to it.
You know, we still had a pretty quick turnaround.
All things considered because of the distance between San Jose and Austin and traveling from Dayton to Portland and back to Austin.
But yeah, it's nice to have a couple of days in between.
But everybody that's playing has those same days as well.
Yeah, I mean, he's, if he's got a tweak, he's getting plenty of, you know, their, their ice in it.
Heat, ice heat, whatever he needs to do to get that thing ready and no basketball players.
That's a part of their life.
They, they wrote the word, I didn't hear him.
He rolled exactly just tweaked his sounds pretty good.
They play with that a lot.
You know, they get that stepping on other guys for just turning their ankle defending.
So, I mean, if you're basketball player at some point in your career,
you've had either one that's rolled over and more than once.
So, they know how to play with that.
So, he'll be fine.
He's getting plenty of rest, you know, elevate that thing and get everybody to go.
Yeah, he won't be feeling the thing once that game starts.
I think twisted is the,
twisted, yes.
So, the old twisted ankle.
That's the verbage that I heard coming out of the last game.
Yeah, the one I hate is the hairline fracture.
Yeah.
Those are outcomes as a broken ankle.
That's all that is.
Yeah, or rolls the case.
Yeah.
If we were talking about a hairline fracture here,
then we wouldn't be talking about Jordan Poe being questionable.
No.
We'd be talking about Texas needing to win a game without him.
So, thankfully, it isn't that serious, Buck.
No, he's, he'll be ready to go.
Like I said, those guys who used to play with those, you know, they,
they have a lot of that stuff during the course of a game.
They'll turn it a little bit twisted and get back out and start playing.
So, I expect he will be ready to go and excited about playing in this basketball game tonight.
Yeah, and that's what Jordan Poe did against the Zags, right?
He got hurt with a few minutes left in the game, did check out for a little bit,
but subbed right back in.
I mean, Texas needed him to close out that game and he was able to finish it out.
So, you know, we said it earlier this week.
I mean, Jordan Poe's ankle would have to be on backwards for him to use this game.
Oh, yeah.
For sure.
We're talking about a senior player who's obviously been a huge part of Texas's run to the sweet 16.
He's also from the Bay area buck.
He grew up here.
So, he's going to have a bunch of friends and family in attendance at this game tonight.
So, you know, I don't feel a thing.
You can't, you won't feel a thing.
You'll just be playing in front of his fans.
Yeah.
I mean, how much motivation do you need?
A senior, obviously, of Texas loses.
It'll be his last career collegiate game.
He's playing near his hometown and it's a sweet 16 matchup with a spot in the elite eight on the line.
So, Jordan Poe will be out there.
The question is, will he be the same Jordan Pope?
Are we getting 80% Jordan Pope?
Are we getting 90% Jordan Pope?
Is it more than that?
Is it less than that?
Because he's been pretty consistent for this Texas team in their first three tournament games.
If he is not the same guy, then, well, it's going to be on the other three in the big four.
Tremon, Mark, Dalyne, Swain, and Mottis, Vokititis to up their game to help pick up some of the slack.
Yeah.
Well, somebody's got one of those four guys is going to have to really play outside the box tonight.
Somebody's going to have to have one of those kind of games.
Whether they're not just having their regular game, whether it's somebody that's average in 15 or 18,
they need to get to about 25.
Somebody's going to have to play extremely well, one of them.
You know, and that means the other ones have to play up to their normal standard.
But somebody individually is going to have to, I don't know who it's going to be,
but one of them is going to have to do that tonight.
I don't think it's going to be Pope.
Pope just needs to take care of the ball.
Take care of his ankle.
Take care of the ball.
Don't have a bunch of turnovers because I don't expect it to defensively.
Somebody's going to have to pick up the slack for a guy who's got a twisted ankle.
Well, we understand that.
Because even when he doesn't have a twisted ankle, you know, his defense can be questionable.
And they're playing some pretty good cards.
So I don't know who it's going to be.
I hope it's Swain.
I hope he has one of those over the top games in the 30s where he's just, he's rebounding and he's playing.
I mean, he didn't have to play great defense.
He's in the 30s and he's rebounding, but get his defense.
Let's go ahead and do that.
Just have one of those high scoring games.
But I think one of at least one of them has to play that we'll be talking about the next day.
On Friday about the incredible game that an individual has.
Yeah.
Well, I think they all have to play great defense.
More on that a little bit later.
But with you on Dale and Swain needing to step up offensively.
I mean, Texas has played three tournament games so far.
And Dale and Swain has failed to reach his regular season scoring average in any of those three games.
Now he hasn't been a liability out there.
He's rebounding well enough.
All right.
He's rebounding well.
He had six assists against the Zags.
Like he is doing a lot of good for this Texas basketball team.
But he's a guy who averaged close to 18 points per game during the regular year.
And he has failed to reach those numbers so far in the tournament.
I think for Texas to pull off this upset and it would be a big upset.
We're talking about 11 seed versus a two seed.
We're talking about the long horns as they seven and a half to eight point underdog in this game.
They're going to need Dale and Swain to go 20 plus.
I don't know if he needs to go 30.
I would love for him to go 30.
That'd be great as long as the other guys are still eating as well.
But I think Dale and Swain for Texas to keep this magical ride alive.
He's going to have to exceed his scoring average for the first time in this dance.
Yeah, I would agree with that.
As I said, he's been doing a great job rebounding and being a big part of what the other parts of the offense are doing and the defense.
But it's time for him to score now.
They need to score.
I mean, he only took seven shots in the last game.
Like Nick Cody took six.
I know.
I don't know if we've seen that all year or Dale and Swain only had one more shot than the garbage man.
Nick Cody, as you like.
That's going to be interesting on.
And Cody's going to end up playing a lot because they're going to need.
They're going to need some strength.
They're going to need some some some bigger type of bodies and he's.
I don't care about him scoring 12 maybe get 12 rebounds.
That'd be fantastic for sure and defense well because they've got a big team.
They've got big physical players and if Texas can meet your physicality.
Especially early just you know don't let them get off to you know grabbing rebounds and getting down the court.
And fast breaking because they got athletic biggs to get they can run the court and.
And they like to dunk and they like to they like to high fly a little bit.
They score a lot of points.
So they'll they will want to be on the move.
And that's going to take Texas having a lot of guys on the boards.
And that's guard that's everybody.
Everybody has to go to the boards against this team.
So if Nick Cody can be that guy.
I'm not going to be down on him if he scores four points and two of them hit off his shoulder blades and go in.
As long as he's defending and grabbing rebounds that's going to be good for them.
Yeah, I feel like lightning doesn't strike twice in the spot.
Not with 10.
No, I think we got the Nick Cody double digit scoring output burst in this tournament.
That was the last game where he had 12 on five of six shooting, but you're right.
I mean, he's going to be asked to play a lot of minutes.
Listen to treoria officially out on the injury report.
No surprise there.
He's going to be out for the remainder of the year, even if Texas gets to Indianapolis next week for the final four.
So yeah, modest focus Titus Nick Cody and also the guards too.
I mean, they've got to be very involved on the glass.
I agree with you 100% buck.
That's one of my big keys to a Texas victory in this one.
Yeah, you know, they're going to have to and they're going to have to give up some some easy buckets because they can't get in foul trouble.
You know, when when when produce bigs get.
If they get if they get the kind of position on.
Unbroken Titus, he's going to have to be careful.
He doesn't need to get.
You don't need to get the cheap files when the guys have like layup stone.
Here's no reason to come over the top of their backs.
Go ahead and give it up.
Give up to because you can't afford to have two or three fouls early in this basketball game for him.
And then Texas will be in a lot of trouble if he gets in foul trouble early.
100% and I will say this.
Purdue does not draw a lot of fouls for as good as they are offensively.
I mean, they have the most efficient offense in the country.
According to Ken Palm, they do not live at the free throw line.
So that's good news for Texas now.
Texas has fouled a lot even against teams that don't typically live at the free throw line.
But it's not like a on paper.
You're going up against a team like Texas, right?
Who relies on free throws to spark their offense.
That's not what Purdue is all about.
So hopefully that's good news for Texas.
You know, the whole has been really pretty disciplined on on letting guys go ahead and get that two points without hacking them and sending them to a line for third.
They've done pretty good job lately.
They've had guys that have had four thousand didn't file out of the game.
You know, they got close, but nobody's really fouled out over these last couple games.
But they've let's start to let guys go ahead.
Give up the two and to get that foul that that real critical foul where you sit on the bench and they lose you there.
So they've been a little bit smarter.
You know, they're having crossed the street when it comes to that.
He will foul delivered out of you.
You can't do that tonight.
That can't show up tonight.
Can't show up tonight.
Yeah.
Defense is key.
I mean, this Texas defense has been so good in the tournament.
They allowed 66 points against NC State in the first four game.
That's an NC State team that averaged 83 points per game during the regular season.
The Longhorns allowed just 71 against BYU to BYU team that averaged 84 a game in the regular year.
And then just 68 allowed against the Zags.
That's a good zag a team that averaged nearly 85 points per game in the regular season.
I mean, the Longhorns, we've talked about the Kenpom defensive efficiency stat a lot throughout the year.
Just kind of talk about how bad Texas has been in the defensive end of the floor.
They have jumped nearly 40 spots in defensive efficiency in that Kenpom metric in just three games,
which is insanely hard to do considering they played more than 30 before the tournament started.
But they have been just night and day different on defense.
I'm not really sure who I've been watching lately, but I really enjoy this brand of Texas basketball.
And I think they need it tonight.
But obviously this will be their biggest test.
Maybe of the entire year, but definitely of this NCAA tournament.
Yeah, and to keep them from running and keep those big guys from producing all the boards and getting the ball out
to their forwards and guards that run really well.
I mean, Tremay and Mark will have to go.
He will have to use his athletic ability and start jumping to the chest of some of the big guys.
Cause them to foul.
Use your athleticism and just get to the line.
Slow things down.
Slow them up a little bit because they want to score.
They want to get out and go because they get so many rebounds.
Get so many guys.
I mean, even their guards can go to the boards and get things going.
So slow them down.
When you got the ball and if you can go to the hoop, go ahead.
Make them, you know, make the attempt to make them foul you.
Slow it down a little bit.
Get your point and make your free throws tonight.

Hilton for this day.
Oh, for sure.
How those are going to be at a premium in this game.
And yeah, I mean, I think you and I are kind of aligned.
I wrote down really three keys for Texas in this one.
And we kind of talked about one of them, right?
Dale and Swain needs to step up a little bit and I'll throw Tramon Mark in there too.
I mean, Tramon Mark was two of 10 against Gonzaga had just six points.
He was great against NC State.
He was great against BYU, a huge part of why Texas won those two games.
But if the long horns are going to beat a team as good as boiler up,
they're going to need way more than six from Tramon Mark.
So if Dale and Swain and T Mark, especially while Jordan Pope's not 100%
that's key number one for me.
Key number two is offensive rebounds.
Texas has been very good at that this year.
And Purdue has not been statistically bad at defensive rebounding,
but they did give up 14 offensive boards to Miami in their last game.
And that's an athletic team Miami too.
They got some good athletes.
They do.
They do.
And look, last year when Purdue lost in the sweet 16,
this is the round they lost and they lost to a very good Houston team
that ended up playing for a national championship.
But the Cougs had 16 offensive rebounds in that game.
So for Texas, look, second chances obviously help.
Yes.
But it also prevents their offense from getting more first chances,
which is a big key.
And the Purdue Bigs can rebound, but their guards not so much.
So like Kendall Weaver, Tramon Mark, Dale and Swain,
Cam Heidi when he's out there.
Like, I want those guys crashing the glass for second shot.
I know, I know you risk a little transition defense, right?
If you bring more guys to the offensive boards,
I know that means you have less guys back to stop a fast break on the other end.
But I'm willing to chance it.
I am willing to chance it.
That's been a big part of Texas's success this year.
It is hitting the offensive glass.
And I think Texas is going to need those second shot opportunities in this game
to pull off the ice.
Yeah.
And that's where Heidi can get that shot in the corner.
If he's hanging out in the corner because I just don't know it takes.
I don't know what to expect from him.
I know this.
If he's out there for a big bucket, let it fly.
I mean, if you get an opportunity to shoot,
you need to go ahead and shoot and either make it or get your rebound from that.
But you can't be afraid to shoot because you got a score with this group.
Oh, Cam Heidi, the Purdue transfer, right?
Right.
And again, you should need more motivation.
This is a sweet 16-winner-go-home type of situation.
So that should be enough to get you going.
Look, Cam Heidi was asked about his time at Purdue earlier this week.
He had nothing but great things to say.
There's no bad blood.
There's no ill will.
He said he's a boiler maker for life.
But you'd like to think there's a little bit of extra juice for him going up against his former team.
And Cam Heidi, can he's a 46% 3-point shooter?
So I would like him to take more than two shots.
He took two shots against the Zags.
Obviously, one of those was the biggest shot of the entire game.
But yeah, I'm with you, man.
He doesn't need to go for 12 or 15 or anything like that.
But if he can give you two or three three-pointers tonight,
which is not asking for a whole heck of a lot,
that would go a long way into helping the horns, I think.
Yeah.
And the horns are going to have to defend the defend-brain Smith.
That dude, this, he's been, his shooting has been not that good.
So don't let him.
This is not the night for him to all of a sudden get that feeling where he can make a bunch of shots.
Because he gets a bunch of open shots.
He doesn't make a lot of them.
You know, he's an assist guy.
He's, he's, he's graded that.
He's, you know, he dribble penetrates.
Dishes off or he can even finish.
But I don't, I don't, one thing I don't want to see is that guy get his jumper going tonight.
No.
And look, I saw him shoot was awful.
Yeah, he was not great shooting the rock against Miami.
He also had eight turnovers in that game.
I mean, very uncharacteristically bad for him.
But obviously it goes to show you how good Purdue is and how deep they are.
Is that their leader, their point guard, their floor general had eight turnovers shot horribly.
And they still be a solid team by double digits.
So it's not just him.
But yeah, you don't want this to be the game where brain Smith starts knocking him down.
And look, he's a capable shooter.
He's not their best shooter at all.
But if you leave him wide open, if you just totally forget about him, then he can make you pay.
He don't want that to happen.
No, over the last couple of tournaments, over the last couple of years when they've gotten knocked out.
His shooting has really hurt them.
You know, he's okay during the regular season, he gets into this thing.
And I don't know what his concern is, but he has open shots.
It's almost like he has to have somebody run up in his face for him to make it.
It's those nine contested shots.
But I couldn't believe he just missed.
And they're not all three point shots.
You know, they're mid range shots.
It's not like he misses a bunch of three pointers.
I'm not going to trash brain Smith's game too much.
Oh, no.
That guy is deadly with the ball in his hands.
If he's not turning it over and he's penetrating, he'll find an open dude if he doesn't have a shot.
But I am going to trash his stupid beard.
You've had enough of that.
I mean, the guy looks like he's omnis.
Like, what is he going for with that beard that he has?
Get it?
He's playing in West Lafayette, Indiana.
So like, you know, whatever, the people up there probably aren't the best looking bunch.
I'll report back on that tomorrow.
But I just, uh, when you're a college kid and people make jokes that he's like 25 or 26 or 30 because of how long he's been playing college basketball.
But like, is this the look that you want to have?
Look at the Quakers.
I was going to say, omnis, if you want to go Quakers, that's fine.
But this is stupid beard.
I hope Texas wins this game tonight and someone takes a set of clippers to that beard and gets rid of it because it's got to go.
It's got to go right there.
Save some food for later.
That dude can play.
Yeah, he can.
But he's not their best shooter.
The third key that I have, I mean, look at containing Braden Smith would be nice.
But I think defending the three-point line is massive for Texas in this game.
And they are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country.
They take a lot and they make a lot.
And it's clear that defending the three-point line has been a point of emphasis for Sean Miller in this tournament.
I mean, he's told us.
You can kind of see it in the stats and the game plan.
But he's also told us like, no, we've wanted to limit the teams that were playing against in terms of the threes.
I mean, NC State six of 16 from beyond the arc.
Three of those three-pointers came in the final 90 seconds when they were heaving them up and somehow they were going in.
BYU was four of 22 from three against Texas.
And Gonzaga was four of 16 from beyond the arc against Texas.
So I don't know if you're going to keep Purdue to just four.
But if you could keep them under 10, three-point makes in this game.
Because if it gets to 10 or 12 or anything more than that, then that's where this one can get out of hand.
And they've got, I mean, Fletcher lawyer might be the best three-point shooter in the sport.
Yeah, I mean, speaking of Gaza can get hot.
If he does, you better cool that dude off in a hurry.
Yeah.
You can rattle off four or five in a row.
Actually, if you don't, you know, you got to make him, he's got to earn his points.
He's got to earn.
Yeah, you can't, you can't forget about him.
You cannot let him get hot because it does.
You can let Smith shoot every once in a while.
But this dude, you got to have a hand in his face at all times.
Yeah.
Well, Smith can make him two and CJ Cox, who's the only non-senior starter that they have.
He was also listed as questionable on the injury report yesterday.
Same thing as Jordan Pope.
It sounds like he's going to give it a go.
But he got hurt and produced win over Miami.
It looked pretty serious.
Like at the time, it looked like it could be a season ending kind of thing.
It's a hyper-extended knee for CJ Cox.
He's probably their best perimeter defender.
I think he's going to be the guy who's tasked with guarding Dale and Swain.
And if I'm Dale and Swain, I'm testing that knee to see how good it really is.
But Cox is also a good three-point shooter.
Shoot's 38% from beyond the arc.
And he gets a lot of clean looks because everyone focuses on all of the other guys that that team has.
So you cannot, whatever you've been doing in terms of defending the three-point line,
that needs to continue tonight.
This cannot be a game where you give up a lot of open looks from distance.
Because again, this game has blowout potential if you do.
I don't think it'll be a blowout, but if they get hot and if they're making 12, 14, 15, 3s,
then you could be in some trouble.
Yeah, because they really feel confident about getting rebounds.
They feel pretty confident about about having the bodies and enough bodies to throw at you.
And for Texas, they just don't have that many bodies like that.
Well, Texas rebounds fun, though, is the thing.
I mean, that's not a weakness for Texas.
No, it's not.
It can't be.
It can't be tonight, but they've rebounded pretty well for the most part this year, despite.
But once again, you're going to have to, they're going to give up something.
And I can't give up points for, I mean, I, like I said,
Mark has to be a guy who, you know, yeah, you need him to defend and rebound.
But I need him to score tonight.
Somebody's got to score a lot of points tonight.
Yeah, well, he's got to be, I mean, look, if you're Texas, you want this game played in the 70s if you can.
Because I don't know what to expect from, from Pope with his ankle.
You know, we will see that as, as when the game starts, we'll know how he is.
If he's limping around, and he's struggling with, you know, protecting the basketball and having the guard,
and then having a score too, something's going to suffer with that.
If he's, if not, then expect everybody to be okay.
But if that guy's limping around, that's, that's a problem.
Right.
It's going to be all hands on deck.
Then Wilshire comes in and he has to play a lot.
That's scary right there.
Yes.
Don't say that.
Please don't say that.
Yeah.
Maybe today's Sim Wilshire's turn to have a great game because Texas has gotten unexpected performances from a number of different players in this tournament so far.
Maybe it's Wilshire's turn.
I have zero faith that that is the case.
I think you need a lot of Jordan Pope stats.
You don't want to test that theory with that dude right now.
No, I don't.
And I got longhorn bear saying Fletcher lawyers not a very good three point.
He is a very good three point shooter and has been for all four years.
Yeah, I was honest like that's that's the dude that shoots a bunch of threes.
I've seen him even when they bowed out that guy has been pretty good.
That's starting back court.
Brad Smith and Fletcher lawyer.
They've started 148 consecutive games together.
Wow.
Like their chemistry is absolutely insane and it will be the ultimate test for the Texas defense.
But we'll die back into this game.
I'll give you all some reasons for optimism from a Texas standpoint.
We'll let you hear more sound from Sean Miller as well.

I've been told there's a bit of an echo here.
Are you hearing any sort of echo?
No, no, you sound fine to me.
I don't have an echo.
Maybe out there in the...

But not here.

It's, yeah.
It's a solid hotel right near the airport.
No problems at all.
They had a room for me.
It's clean.
Nice, king bed.
Clean.
No bullet.
No bullet holes.
No bullet holes.
Oh, how much fun is that?
Come on, man.
I know.
I know.
I was a little selfish this time around.
You know what I thought?
I really thought about staying at another crappy motel.
crappy motel like I did in Atlanta, but I was like, you know what, I've never been to San
Jose. I don't know what this area is like. I'm going to make sure I at least have like
a normal spot to sleep in. So I will say this, you know what, we can get into some of my
travel stories. Okay, one after the day. So unfortunately, nothing too out of control
to report for my random rap ladies. None of that.
No, condemn rap ladies. None of that zero problems at Berkstrom. I mean, it took me 10 minutes
to get through security. I didn't check a bag, which definitely helped, but I will say
this, I did have some friends who were at the airport at the same time as me and they
did check a bag and they also said there were no issues at all. So maybe it helped that
it was a Wednesday afternoon when I was flying, but the TSA staff, they were there. They
were doing their thing. We got through pretty quick. So no issues at the airport, thankfully.
The biggest issue that I had during my excursion here, it was on the plane on the plane, although
they're the best. It was not the baby that was sitting two rows behind me, although thankfully,
I have noise canceling headphones, one of the greatest inventions in human history. I
definitely helped with that. No, the baby crying was not the biggest problem. It was somebody
around me who was ripping ass the entire fly. Oh, you got to be kidding me. I wish I was.
And while there are noise canceling headphones, there are not fart canceling headphones,
buck. I could not figure out who it was. I was trying to sleep for a lot of the flight.
I was doing some work, but I was also trying to sleep, but I could not pass out because of how bad
it smelled. It was not like two or three times. Keep in mind, this is a four to four and a half
hour flight nonstop from Austin to San Francisco. That's where I flew in. So it's a long time.
And I'm in a window seat. So it's not easy for me to get up against the window and leave the
situation. Yep. And this was not just like, Oh, a couple of times this guy was or this gal could
be a lady. You never know. This was I kid you not every five minutes. It was just another.
And I'm like looking around like audible. I'm making audible sounds in hopes of like
the person who's doing this. Yeah, knows that like people can smell it and they're not
getting away with it. So I'm like, Oh, I'm literally like looking in this face, putting my hands
up, hoping it's going to get someone's attention to well, where they'll stop doing this. It did
not stop the entire flight. Nobody where people looking at each other or they just other people
just letting it pass, huh? Other people other people are just letting it go. I mean, nobody was
looking around trying to find the culprit here. I think it was the guy sitting next to me.
But I have no way of knowing. I have no way of knowing. He was also asleep for most of the time.
Was he moving his shoulder movement where he kind of tilts to one side? You can tell.
Didn't see any tiltage going on. Maybe he was faking being asleep to cover up his gas.
He's like, well, if I just have my eyes closed on this flight, no one's going to expect that it's
me. So I'll get away with this the entire time. I don't know who it was. But what do you do? What
like what do you do? I don't know what the protocol is there. I don't know what the protocol is
there. I always remember I have my little little deal with me. My mint and cologne thing that I use,
not that you call it perfume, but a little thing, the little roller thing. I can hit that and just
put that underneath my nose a little bit and get away from it. I carry that with me. That's a
carry on. And that mostly because it's a pop, you know, it pops in. It's in my pocket. So it's
not a spray. It's just like a roll roll on kind of deal. So I can get away with that. I really know
get to do this. I've gone through that before. But I kind of turn around and look and I look
into people's eyes. And if there's tears coming out of their eyes, that's I don't say that's you.
I know it's you. Quit it. I'll look across the up to look across the aisle. If there's tears coming
down anybody's eyes, I'm going. Now I know who it is because you're like you're laughing so hard.
You're just you're just crying because of what you're doing. The others around you. You see people
cry when they fall. I can see when their eyes water up that I know exactly what you're doing.
You're enjoying making everybody suffer like this. Oh man. Typically when I have gas,
I just don't want anyone to know about it. And I'm trying to cover it up as much as possible.
I'm not crying or doing things to draw attention to my show. Yeah, you're tilting to the side
probably. Oh man. So yeah, I don't know. I don't know what to do in the hours. This was an hours.
The whole time. I'm not even getting the entire time. And I couldn't figure out who did it. And
I even took my headphones off at a couple of points to like here. Okay, are these are these
louder? These audible flat sizes. And then I'll be able to figure out who it was. But
I could have been that baby. Could have been. Yeah, the baby was too far though. And it wasn't
it wasn't the smell of like baby crap like dirty diaper. It was it was a distinct smell of
grown up grown up. Yeah, grown up for sure. That's got a different. Oh yeah. You know,
aura to it. So by the way, when the guy, I'm 100% sure I'm going to get sick from this trip
because when the guy sitting next to me wasn't asleep, he was sneezing and blowing his nose.
Yeah, like what are you doing that situation to? I mean, you can't. Can't say anything to a guy
who's not feeling well or he's got the sniffles like you just have to wear it. And now it's the
coffer to get to me. The one that doesn't cover their mouth and just starts coughing. He was covering
his mouth to his credit, but I mean, he's in a middle seat and you know, there's still germs flying
around everywhere. So look, that's that one. I have a little more sympathy for that sucks. You can't
really control a cough, but you can control when you let your gas slip and you can control, you know,
oh, I got a problem. Let me get up and use the laboratory here instead. I'm 71. Look at,
I'm almost 71. You can't say that you can, you can't always control that one. You, you can
control it better than this guy or gal did. Oh, this first was really on purpose. They were doing it
for hours. They were, this was on purpose. Insanity. And also, and Mr. Goods, you sell some
tongues, were you? Yeah, no kidding. And I don't carry perfume around like you do. So you might have
your perfume, your green goddess. Isn't that what it's called? Or water goddess goddess. Yeah,
don't try to make the argument that that's male cologne there. That is clearly, I mean goddess,
women's perfume that you're traveling with. So I'm not, I'm not doing that. It's it's gender
neutral because I got it from whole food. How's that? How's that how it works? Yes, because you've
got it. What is their gender neutral stores now? Yes, they have, they have an island has gender,
neutral fragrances. Yes. That's what it says on the, you know, it doesn't say that, but I take it
that that's what it is in whole foods. Yeah. Okay. And I'll also say this one last little travel
nugget from my plane experience. By the way, it was united book. Oh, which I feel like is your
least favorite airline? No, Delta is your least favorite. Delta is my least coin anywhere,
anywhere that has to do with Atlanta, Georgia. Yes. Yeah, I didn't have to deal with that,
thankfully, but also, so think about what I just said, talking about the gas and the farts and
the smell. It was incredibly hot on this plane. Oh, no. I don't think I've ever been warmer on a
plane that I've ever been on. Well, that's, that's the part that drives me nuts. I can get past the
cold and get myself warm and, you know, sometimes you get on there in the air when they put that air
on and it stays on, but the hot part, man, that sucks. Maybe it was just me. I mean, there were
people with sweatshirts and jackets on the entire flight. So maybe it was just I was warm blooded
that day. I don't know. I don't know. But like, what do you do in that situation? The vent was on,
it was blowing cold air, but it wasn't blowing hard. Like, I need it blowing hard. I need it
blowing me hard, and I was not getting that at all. And there's fart smell. Hey,
hey, get to the microphone like that. That one lady that was singing the singing the song and
the birthday song. Hey, give me the mic here. Get out of your seat, get in the window, crawl across
the people to get to your or there. Would you have any male servants on there? There were a
couple of man servants on there. Yeah. Good. You know what I should have done for the sake of
the bid if nothing else. And look, we need some viral content from airplanes. So maybe I could have
been the next guy to go viral. I should have stood up in the middle of the flight and been like,
whoever keeps ripping ass, you need to stop. Someone around me, either you, you, you, you, you,
like pointing them all out, calling them all out. One of y'all is farting the entire time,
and guess what? You're not getting away with it. I'm not letting you get away with it. Quit it.
Please. Oh, my God. Oh, man. That baby's back. They're just giggling the laugh and having a great time.
Oh, man. That's not bad. Not bad. That's not bad. Travels. That's good stuff. Yeah. I mean, no delays
on the plane. I was able to get here in one piece. Took a shuttle from San Francisco to San Jose.
No problems with that. So by the way, United is now my number one go to because of that story,
because they made me sit through. Last couple of flights United has been okay. Okay. Well,
good luck on your next fart flight, my friend. That's what United is to me these days. All right,
so there you go. There's my travel stories. We'll see if we have anything better on the,
on the way back. By the way, I've never wanted to cancel a flight as badly as I want to cancel.
My flight back home, which is currently scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Oh, my goodness.
You're afraid it's going to happen again. That's safe. If Texas, no, it's not that. If Texas wins,
then I'm going to stay till Sunday. If they lose, then I'm flying back tomorrow. So typically,
you cancel flights for bad reasons. I'll be canceling this flight for a very good reason. There you go.
Should I have to. All right. Back back into this game a little bit. Let me give you some confidence
buck or reasons. Okay. Be confident in Texas's chances tonight. So Purdue is a great program.
There's no doubt. I mean, they've won a lot of games under Matt Painter brought this stat up earlier
in the week. They've been a top four seed in each of the last nine NCAA tournaments. That's
ridiculous. Like just making nine tournaments in a row is something to be very proud of. Like,
Texas has made six in a row. And I'm incredibly proud of that stat getting in nine years in a row.
That's something very few teams can do. Being a top 16 team. Now four regions, four seeds being a top
16 team nationally for that long is absolutely insane. But while Purdue is great. And this year's
team is special. The Boilermakers have a bit of a reputation. Yes. In the month of March.
And it's not a great one. Like they're the kid who shows up to prom in a limo wearing a
ridiculously nice suit. He's got the hottest girl in the school on his arm. And then he drinks
too much ends up throwing up in the bathroom. It has to leave early and everyone points and laughs
on his way out. Yes. That's Purdue. Here are some of the teams that they have lost to in the
tournament in the Matt Painter era. 11 seed VCU. That was a team coach by Shaka Smart. That went
first four to final four. Interesting. 12 seed little rock. Team coach by Chris Beard.
Funny enough. Couple of Texas parallels there. 13 seed North Texas. 15 seed St. Peters.
16 seed. Fairly Dickinson. Remember they were the second 16 one upset in the history of this
tournament a few years ago. So all of those teams that I just brought up not as good as Texas.
Texas has more talent than any of those squads that have beaten some of Matt Painter's teams in
this tournament in recent years. So not sitting here telling you it's going to be easy. I'm not
sitting here telling you Purdue's bad. But this is a team that is always the bridesmaid never the bride.
They have more tournament wins than any program in the sport that hasn't won or I should say for
a team that hasn't won a national championship. Yeah. They've been in a lot. They have absolutely
fallen apart. They've been in it a lot for sure. But they've absolutely fallen apart in the dance
against teams they're supposed to beat. And let's be real Purdue is supposed to beat Texas tonight.
Yes. There's no doubt they are better on paper. There are two seed Texas is an 11 seed.
The Vegas line tells you everything that you need to know. But they have absolutely collapsed
in moments like this. A number of times while Matt Painter has been their head coach.
Yeah. That's once again somebody's going to have to play outstanding tonight. It's not it's it's just I mean you've
seen them play you know I know they have the history but you've seen them play lately and you've
seen the physicality and the ability to score with that group. Somebody's going to have to do something
very special for the horns tonight. It's a team effort but somebody individually is going to
have to go above and beyond. And they have capabilities they've got a couple guys that could actually do
that. I'd like to see the big four all play well again but it might take just more than that.
I mean can't handle weaver had to have another strong performance. I think it's offensive rebound
and could be the key to Texas pulling off an upset tonight. Can Nick Cody do something for you?
We brought it up earlier. Can Sim Wilcher give you a little sum sum? Can Cam Heidi make more than
one three pointer in this game? Yeah. Can Nick some Cody do some of the things that he's been doing
lately? I mean is it can that continue? Right. Yeah. I think at least one of your other guys.
Right. You're you're big four probably all need to play well. Yeah. But it's got to take more
than four to knock off this Purdue team. So who's it going to be? Which of those role players steps
up? And if somebody does then look Texas has a chance and I mean the long horns were underdogs
against NC State. They won. They were dogs against BYU. They won. They were dogs against Gonzaga
and one. So they've been here in this spot. And let me say this, but this is this is interesting.
So Texas and Texas and Purdue play the first game tonight. Obviously.
The second game here in San Jose is Arizona versus Arkansas. Yes. Sean Miller was the coach at
Arizona for a long time. And I think Arizona fans really like Sean Miller from what I've seen on
Twitter from what I've heard over the last couple of days. Somebody asked held there were a couple of
questions asked to Sean Miller about his time at Arizona. And he had nothing but great things to
say about his tenure in Tucson. Like Texas has basically played road games to this point in the
tournament tonight. Look, there are going to be more Purdue fans than Texas fans. There's no doubt
about that. But I could absolutely see. I think Arizona and maybe even Arkansas fans. I know
Arkansas. Texas is a rivalry. But let's be real. If you're one of those teams, you'd rather play
an 11 seed than play a two seed. Oh, there's no doubt that that group's going to be rooting for
Texas all the way. I think due to collapse like they generally do. That's what they're hoping for.
Exactly. I think both sides, but obviously Arizona because of the Sean Miller element,
like long horns. I don't know of home court advantage. That's probably too much of a stretch
right there. But I think some of the neutrals in this game, the majority of the neutrals in this
game. And again, it's one ticket that gets you into both. So it's it's not like all Texas and
Purdue fans who we're going to be there's going to be Zona and Arkansas fans trickling in
throughout the long horns game. You might get potentially a little boost from from the crowd at
the S&P. Yeah, both of those teams would rather be playing Texas than playing Purdue.
Yeah, you have to. And here's on that point, you know, Sean Miller being Sean Miller being
direct to the point and sometimes hilarious at his press conferences. He was asked a question.
Again, I mentioned it. He was asked a couple of questions about Arizona, his relationship with
the school and the fan base and this, that and the other. And this answer, I mean, it was about a
minute and a half long. Sean Miller talked about how his kids graduated from Zona and how he loved
it. But at the very beginning, he was asked, do you think Arizona fans will root for you or
against you? And literally to the conversation we're having right now, here's what Sean Miller
started his answer with. I really haven't. I would hope they would cheer for us. We're the
11 seed, you know, if I were them, I'd want us to win. Yeah, yeah. Like, you know, your coach say
that very often, but that's the truth. I mean, it like I was rooting for Miami to beat Purdue
last weekend. Hell, I was rooting for Queens, the 15 seed to beat Purdue last weekend. I mean,
you want the easiest path possible for your team to make a deep run in March. And yeah,
you don't want to hurt your own team. No, no, I think for Arizona and Arkansas, they would be
very happy to see the Longhorns on Saturday night. And I could tell you, I will be very happy to see
the Longhorns on Saturday night. Should we get to that situation? So yeah, they just have to go. And
as I said, the physicality of this game early is going to be important for the Longhorns.
And I got to feel and Kendall Weaver is going to be in the game a lot quicker than he generally is.
Yeah, they're going to need him. They're going to need him on both ends. And again,
Cam Heidi will bring this up and play one more bit of sound from Sean Miller here. Cam Heidi
played at Purdue the last couple of years, played for Matt Painter was teammates with Braden Smith
and Fletcher lawyer and Trey Kaufman, Ren and CJ Cox, four of the five starters that Purdue has
this year. It's a homegrown squad. They don't have a lot of transfers on their team. So look,
Cam Heidi again, even though rosters typically in college basketball turn over every single year,
they don't have that roster turnover at Purdue. Sean Miller was asked about, you know,
Cam Heidi. And if he can help come up with a game plan to try to slow down this high-powered
boiler maker often. Yeah, I mean, we would be foolish not to pick his brain, right? And look,
we, you know, me and in particular, I have such a great healthy respect for Purdue and Matt
Painter that, you know, I've already talked to Cam a lot about different things that they've done
or he did while at Purdue to try to learn from him. But, yeah, I think Cam can be helpful.
Obviously, he's not an assistant coach and, you know, I think names and faces have changed,
I'm sure some of the things they're doing this year, they didn't do as much last year or two
years ago. And, and Cam's learned a brand new system with us. He's probably forgotten more than
he remembers at this point. But no doubt we, we're certainly going to utilize his familiarity with
his former teammates and Purdue and, and look, I, I know, Cam had a great experience at Purdue as
well. So it's easy, easy for him to talk about. I like the stories, but dude, just make the
threes. If you get an opportunity to make your shots, make your shots, don't be afraid to take
your shots. Don't be given up the ball and open looks, you know, you need more than, you know,
nice to have a buzzer beater and all that other crap. But I need more than three points tonight.
I need you to make it more than one shot. Go ahead and take about five or six of those bad
boys. If you get them, take them and make them buzzer beater and all that crap. I'm not,
I mean, I need more than I need more than I need more than a shot. You know, I'm saying,
I need more than shot. I need to, I need a few shots. Hit it for you, will you?
And Cam Heidi is the fourth highest rated offensive player in the country,
according to Ken Palm. It's just because of how good of a three point shooter he is. I mean,
that's all he does. But because he is so accurate from beyond the arc, like efficiency-wise,
analytics think he's unbelievable. So I agree. He has to shoot more. I wouldn't mind putting
him in the corner a little more. That's where he made that three to stick the dagger into the
hearts of Gonzaga. Like, there are times where I feel like if he's just on the wing or at the top
of the key, he's not really doing much except for clogging up the offense a little bit.
Put him in the corner to where if modest gets doubled, he kicks it out to him.
If Mark or Swain or Pope Drive and the defense starts to collapse, they can kick it out to him.
Yes. Like, Cam Heidi, he's proven he could make threes and he proved to us that he could make
that corner three. I would mind him shooting four or five times in this game tonight.
Yeah, get him loose. I mean, I know he's a part of it when they do that globe trotter act where
they pass it at the top of the key and the other guy comes across. They hand it off and then they
hand it off to the next guy. That's nice. But get that guy in a corner somewhere where you drive
penetrate and kick out to him and he can shoot. I don't need him to be one of the Harlem globe
trotters up top in that offense. No, no. His job is to shoot. I mean, he's like, it came Heidi's
problem. And the rebound too. I mean, he's got to be a part of that deal too. You know that.
Well, some guys like do too much. You get mad at them because they try to do too much and they
probably just outside of their body. Cam Heidi just doesn't do enough. So we want him to just
do more. Yeah, well, well, ever since he got that double block, he hasn't been quite the same
that game where they were two guys pennies, not one guy, but two guys had the ball pinned up against
the backboard. He hadn't been the same since then every once in a while, he'll get one or he'll go
to the who, but he was going to the hoop a lot more than when that happened. Yeah, here's your
final stat. Maybe your feel good stat here on a Thursday. Texas basketball is 11 and 0 on
Thursdays in the last four seasons. Oh, you like those stats. Just check the watch today is
