Even when he likes horror, he says, I don't really like horror. He's making good reviews on his horror movies and I don't even like this.

1:00But I like it. They're starting to elevate it as they say. Well, you know, so it is like about 30-40% of them where I'm like, you know what? That was good. Yes, Martin, you know what? I mean, horror did used to be the easy like, let's just chase people in the woods with the machete and throw it out in there and it'll be fine. Yeah. So, I mean, I understand not liking it half the time. Well, you, I don't know, Martin, if you, if you're a lot, start I'm like horror. You have a lot to choose from. That's the thing you might not like. So much variety out there. I got a Liss-Rated, you got Classic Horror, Psychological Horror, you got Elevated Horror, you got Body Horror. All the mutations in the body and everything. Martin, you got Comedy Horror, you got Gateway Horror for the young kids out there. And now, as if that wasn't enough and it's probably more of a Martin pull out your list and add mascot horror on there. Yeah, Martin, do you know about the mascot horror? A little bit. What do you know about it?

2:01Well, I know that this isn't the first horror movie to do that. No, it's not. And yes, people, we are actually talking about those funny cartoon-like characters that make us laugh at sports half-time shows. They greet us at the theme parks right there. That's La Bouboulin. Jesus. I don't know what that is. No, I didn't hear that. That's a La Bouboulin. Okay. Well, there you go. Look at that. La Bouboulin and all La Bouboulin themselves. It's saying hi to all the Chinese people over there. That's terrifying. And I want to go. It's so bad. And also, we have the mascots that play our favorite diddies at the Pizza Arcades. Look at good old chums right there. And Charles. Yeah, Charles E. Cheese. His friends call them chukums. Good guy. But now, mascots, they have joined that category of things that were once considered to be innocent, like dolls and clowns. Things that normally brought joy to people that now horrifies.

3:06And you can blame old Freddy for that. Freddy for breaking the mascot fear over them. Although there have been things like you said, Martin, there have been things before him, even though even our childhood friends, the banana splits have turned homicide on. Have backs as big than he is. His about to fall on. Yeah, so by chopped off for him ahead of time. Oh, people. And to that list of horrifying mascots that we have there, you can add the name buddy. Close your eyes. Put on your dancing shoes. The brain. And face your fears. Freddy. We better get started having fun right now. People. I know, buddy, looks like a guy that wants to be your friend and have fun with you.

4:08But thing with buddy, let me tell you a little bit about this. And it's this movie here because you're looking at this and you thinking this, something you still think something you can bring your kids to. What I use like that Disney announcer boy, Disney Channel announcer. Exactly. Exactly. And I bet there are some kids they've traumatized after this weekend. Because I don't know, buddy, just by looking at this. Let me tell you about buddy. Buddy is a big orange unicorn in the title character of what seems to be a popular kids show similar to Barney. If y'all remember that. And he just wants to show love and wants to be loved. As he sings songs with the kids out there plays games in this magical world that he's created. But when the kids start to sense that something is kind of off about buddy, well, that makes buddy very insecure and brings out a side of him that believe me. You do not want to see. And let's go ahead and point out the obvious here. This has puppets.

5:08So you know I'm already. Of course. Of course. Yeah. You're talking about Barney by seeing a lot of Peewee's play on. Oh yeah, I mean, you know, it's got, and not just puppets, but weird puppet shit going on. So you know I'm in for this right here, man, that's my specialty. This movie's made for me right here. And I'm going to tell you the first 15, 20, 25 minutes of this movie, I think it's genius. And that's just me. I think because I, you know, of course it has my love of puppets in there. Mars knows what you might be by. This might be a little biased, but yeah, Mars knows me for them in 30 years. You know, as I have a puppet fish, I'm surprised he has not been chased off by there yet. How I would describe it. Yeah, yeah, very much so. But because I have a love of puppets, I, maybe this contributes to why I used to watch, used to like sometimes I would come home from, from college, and you know, my classes are,

6:10when I was working the night shift one time of work, I would come home and I'd, yeah, pop on these children's shows on Nick Jr. and PBS. And that's one of the things I really love about this movie right here. It meals that format. The attention to detail that they do here, where they commit to just recreating that format, just pretty much making a show. And playing is straight for most of that time is, is perfect. Even with the marketing, they are still playing it up like this is a real, I can't wait for some kids to find out that this is a hard film because they play this whole thing completely straight. Kids are saying, I can't wait to see this show.

7:11Did they re-appost her cherry? That's no, that's a couchie couchie. Get out of here, Martin. My mistake. Get out of here, Martin. You know what that is, stop playing. But man, yeah, this whole thing, man, it's like, they really are trolling little kids out there and people who think that this is not a hard, who don't know that this is a hard movie. That's what I mean by the commitment behind it. The sets, the title screens, the closing credit screens, they even have little educational spots in there like they do on these children's shows. You've seen them before, you know that format. It's time to learn about cleaning. Cleaning kills germs and it keeps us healthy. Always ask a grown-up before handling chemicals under the sink. Great work, gang. So fun. Go going. Oh, shit, what was that? Yeah.

8:13Right now, kids are getting some weird, some little messages going on. You know, when I was watching this, the whole time I was sitting up there and I didn't know, I knew the trailer briefly because we watched it on the show. But when I went in there, I was like, okay, I guess we just watching kids. So right now, there was a whole period where I was just watching this. I didn't know what to expect. I'm like, all right, cool. I'm watching the kids show. I'll go with it. So when the first thing that happens, that's not right. It just makes it that more disturbing and actually kind of funny. But funny, and I don't know how you felt about this because you saw it, but, but funny in that, in that, that, that cringey kind of way, because the first thing that goes wrong here, it's like when you're in a family's house, for a party or something, and one of the kids gets into an argument with the parents, and they take that shit into the back,

9:14and everybody's in the front room just kind of looking at each other, while they listen to the yelling in the other room. Yeah. Except it's weird here because we're not looking at each other in a room. It's the audience sitting up there having nervous exchanges with a puppet on the screen. And, and it's, it's, it's, it's uncomfortable. It really is kind of cringey. It's scaring away. It's creepy. And again, it's just kind of crazy that you sent a pierced down there, have mailboxed with eyes, and the mailbox is like, yeah, I'm sorry. Crazy, huh? So what you been up to. Yeah, I, this is one of the weirdest fucking things that I've seen this year, man. And I'm, I'm all about it. For the, for the most part, I heard you're talking a mart about this. I'm not sure how you, how you feel about it. It's definitely worth a watch. I will not say how I feel exactly yet, but it is funny when you talk about that part.

10:14The writer was talking about like he was heavily influenced by watching Barney. And when he watches it, he's like, that's not the way kids behave. Yeah, oh yeah. That's not the way four or five year old kids behave. So what do they do to make the kids that well behaved? Oh, I, I, I used to watch Barney every day when my kids were real little, real little like two, and I was a stay home dad. We watched it every day. And yeah, they, they nailed it, except they spent a little bit more money. As Barney always looked like, yeah, this is shot at a local station. And that's what you're talking about with the kids are like, kids don't act like this. So then you start to realize as the kids start to realize, they're like, this is some kind of permanent hell that we end. Like this is a loop that they, this TV show is a loop that they cannot get out of. It's some cracker reality that they can't escape. And then when they find out what a piece of shit buddy really is, you don't know what to expect next.

11:14And when buddy starts doing what buddy does, man, it really is a, there's one thing to be horrifying in a movie where you have slasher horror, you know, you have a clear villain over there. This is a different kind of horror, man, because this is watching Barney and party, watching buddy, buddy, you know, you know, copyright and un, when watching buddy with these kids, it's abuse that's going on. And I'll get into the abuse of what this abuse is in a little bit. But I say genius with this because like I said, many speaks to my, what I like, my personality, if speaks to little, little weird, weird things that I enjoy. Because those things is, if it's done cleverly, those things are just different from me. And I love just seeing something that I don't see very often. We watch so many movies and shows and media. When I see something that's done creatively, but it might be weird, it's something that might be odd, that's my stuff, man. I like that a lot.

12:16And the, the direct of this that you mentioned is Casper Kelly. And Casper Kelly, the reason why I say genius with him is because he just has, he has a unique vision. He has a way of looking at things. Mainly, he takes innocent nostalgic formats like a sitcom, our TV show, and making it surreal, horrifying, or both. Do you remember too many cooks? Yes, that's what he directed. And if you all don't know what too many cooks is, a lot of you do, because start out on adult swim, and then somebody put it up on the internet, and it went viral after that, and it became a sensation. And I'm not going, I'm just going to play a little bit, because you need to see for yourself. But like, yeah, well, that's, what's that? Oh, no, I'm not going to play. I'm going to clip it. No, I'm not going to, I'm not going to show you a lot. I'm not going to take it to the middle. I'm just going to start at the beginning, because just like with Buddy, it starts out looking innocent and looking like something that,

13:20the stagically we've seen before. Now, that keeps going and going. They start to introduce more and more people. And when you step out of that regular format, something goes on too long, it already starts to feel a little weird. This because it's different, you start to feel a little, maybe even a little disturbed by, but then you're caught in that loop. In that loop, yeah. And then it starts going into other genres. It starts, the editing starts to get a little crazy and weird. Stuff starts repeating and stuttering, and it ends up just being something completely crazy from the way it started. And you just slowly again pulled into it. And I love this when it came out. I used to look at this all the time there. There's literally a psychological tension that's created when it's just like, oh, this is my escapism, my comfort. And watching it kind of distort fox with you a little bit.

14:24Yeah. That's what this movie does and what too many cooks did that was. Yeah. Now, exactly, that's a great way of putting that because, you know, look, it's just a more creative way to explore pop culture. Besides just a simple reference art and Easter egg, you know, let's, let's explore by, by, by, uh, uh, playing with it, twisting it into something crazy just something else, which gets us to think about these things deeper than just, you know, hey, look, you remember that? No, listen, hey, do you remember this and how fucked up it was? Or did you notice weird things that were in here? You know, like with Barney and the kids, you know, this is the way of doing that, man. Now, some people will, they'll hate this. And now they'll hate it because, yeah, it's weird. It's, you know, it's something that's just people aren't used to seeing. You know, they're, it's a lot of people are just used to the norm, which is not. Uh, but some people hate this because there's a lot of violence against kids. Uh, that's what I was wondering.

15:24And the harshest stuff, well, the thing is the harshest stuff is not too graphic, man. You know, it happens off screen. And when it's shown, it intentionally made it look silly. Uh, this movie's pretty gory when it comes to the puppets, but now when it comes to the kids, and I feel like it kind of needed that, to fully not though hold them because there's actually a lot of people that die in this movie. Oh, you wait. You say it needed that. It needed to not show the go. No, it needed to at least once in a while, just kind of because they almost, I would say half of the kids die off screen. And the ones that don't die off screen, they just get hit by the horn. Yeah, this, I, I thought it was, I like the way they did it myself. I didn't have a problem with it, but, you know, uh, it's because I think the physical violence is not what was, it's not the big deal here. It's the, uh, it's the, uh, the, the mental abuse, excuse me. It's the mental abuse these kids have to deal with because hanging out with buddy

16:27is like being an abusive relationship. He's passive aggressive. Always, uh, gaslighting these kids. You brought that shit on yourself. Uh, he's controlling buddy is manipulative. You never know what's going to set buddy off. And I, you know, nothing, that's why I say I think people will be more disturbed by that because the physical violence in here is nothing more than they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, Pity-wise is done. Okay. There's nothing more than what they do in it. You know, uh, this is more psychological. Because we're exploring things. This is just a, a, a really imaginative way to explore a huge narcissist. Him and another orange guy. Buddy and Trump give a whole great. Uh, yeah, buddy has his constant need for love. It's kind of what helps his power and, and with that love comes this entitlement. And of course, there's the narcissism behind it.

17:29So it's just the way of looking at that theme of narcissism. And I, I like the way they did it here, man. And if you think buddies bad around kids, should get buddy around a fine as one, he gets rapies and he gets a little, just a little touchy. But that's like, there's a really weird scene in here where he's, uh, I thought that was actually the creepiest scene in the term movie. Yeah. What's the name? Oh, oh, I, I, I, I, I, Kristen, Miliati. Yeah. Miliani. Who with her, the movie takes this big tonal shift, like we end up going after. That, that's what I like about this because you never know what's coming up because you spend all this time in buddy world on this set. And then all of a sudden, we switched to the real world where you have Kristen Miliani as great. Miliati. Yeah. As grace. And scenes with her and her family and how she is related to, uh, to, to buddy world. And 12 for graces in the movie. And they actually, that he, she, he plays the husband.

18:31And they actually have some really good scenes together. There's a hilarious scene for me in the movie where, uh, she's trying to figure out what's going on with her as she starts to sense something's wrong. And this attachment to buddy. And they have a psychic come to the house. And 12 for graces, not about it at all. Like from the moment she, she comes in, she's like, oh, you must be frank. And you're like, hold it, your powers tell you that. So yeah, I, I, I thought that they were pretty cool together, man. I've heard some criticisms about the kids in the, in the film. At least one I saw by accident where it was like they were talking about. Uh, the kids are not too good. But it's like, that's how the kids acting these, in these shows. Oh, I thought they were great. Yeah. That's how kids, no, that's how these kids act, man. And he's, uh, and he shows. They're not, and you know, that they, they're, they're intentionally supposed to act. Uh, really excited to the point where it seemed like they're faking about things. But they're also like so good at like, uh, showing tension and anxiety about how to play Kate Buddy for like half the movie.

19:33That's what really worked for me in the moment. You know, they're all jolly and happy and not there, you know, doing just stupid games and what not. Laughing about everything. And the moment that they start to send something's wrong, they, they, they genuinely, they, they have to act like they're having a good time. They have to pretend like everything is okay. But they start to pick up on clues like, buddy, they're right. Yeah. Uh, I thought that the kids were actually pretty good in here, man. So if I had any complaints about the kids at all, is that they have that same tone in parts where I feel like maybe they should have, their personality should have shifted a little bit, but it's a small complaint with me, man. But this, this girl right here, Delaney Quinn, she's probably got the most screen time. I thought she was good, man. Like a suspension when she starts to pick up clues and things are wrong. And she's looking like a hostage victim for the whole thing. I thought she was, I thought she was very good, man. You get good performances from people that you don't see.

20:33Kegan Michael Key is the voice of buddy. But there's also cameos in here. I won't tell you who they are, but there's cameos in here by Michael Shannon, Clint Howard. It's in here, man. And what is like a really funny, but weird and disturbing role. If I had any criticism about all about this, I would say that the character of grace, once they start to tie her story to the big buddy thing going on, I don't think that it was as tight as everything else. It left me with some questions that maybe I'll figure out later. Maybe it's supposed to walk out of this, because I like a lot of this movie to tell you a lot of things. Because there's some crazy stuff that happens that they're not going to explain. And you're not going to know, we just keep moving. Yeah, they don't do deep dive into the lore of how this universe works or doesn't work. And that's good, because sometimes you do that. It ends up being more stupid than anything else, more stupid than anything you thought of.

21:34Yeah, I mean, I'm sorry, but I know everybody likes it, but Fred is still stupid. I can't tell you. I mean, that's just me, but you know, it's so mad about that movie not having all the video anymore. I'm like, I'm sorry, I didn't read five novels before I watched this movie. Yeah, yeah, they don't think I'm you shit about, but you don't need to know shit. What you need to know is like, don't piss them off. Go along with whatever he says. Be cool. Yeah. But how long? What's that? How for how long? Hopefully none. Hopefully you got your shit together. You going there and you got my buddy immediately, because once the moment the moment that buddy says something wrong, buddy will turn just like that. But it does that whole like I said, gaslight, yeah. You know, there's a part in here where I don't want to be careful. I say, I don't want to give anything away, but buddy will do that thing. You know, oh, you don't want to fuck up.

22:36Tell everybody you're sorry. Hey, you know, you try to run from, from, from buddy, but it's like, tell everybody why you hurt my feelings. Tell everybody. Tell everybody why you ran, huh? Why'd you ruin the party for everyone? We just were having fun. You were the one that did this shit. You brought him. You don't want that made everybody say it. It's like, no, everybody's afraid of you. Why would you do this on my birthday? Yes. Wow, this damn thing really is Trump. Yeah, man. I don't know. I love most of this. We've been obsessed with nostalgia for so long. It's become lazy. And then it's, you know, it's time that we get something that just starts disturbing us. Making us kind of crazy. And I thought there's a very original way to do it. But yeah, you can tell I liked it. I liked a lot. I had some smart mind of complaints in there, but what do you think? My thing is that, so the, the overall theme is that

23:38you shouldn't find comfort in nostalgia. That's kind of like, it overall, it's, it comes out a lot like, just go with the flow, enjoy it. Just go shut up and enjoy it. I think it does do that well. But I just do think that, because I was comparing maybe unfairly this movie to obsession, where obsession builds for a long time. This movie gets pretty horrifying within like 15, 20 minutes. 24:41because it's just, it is a lot of over the top violence. And it's not, it doesn't actually do the elevated horror thing about like, I just feel uncomfortable for being uncomfortable. Like there's a real threat and you need to figure out how to deal with it. Yeah, well, what would you give me? I'd probably say high rental. Okay, I have a, I have a lot of relatives like buddy. I grew up being gaslit and then pushed around and whatnot. Buy my relatives, you know, you've heard some of the stories about them. So maybe there's a connection with buddy there, you know, I don't know that on someone healthy connection, some Scott Com Sim drum thing. I don't know. But I do think I just, more than anything, I really appreciate the creativity. What they did in the beginning, there's that there in mailbox. That mailbox and I was stuck there for, felt like five minutes, just looking at each other. So how's your day getting the good mail lately?

25:46Those eyes to be ping pong balls are so expressive. Yeah. But yeah, man, I just, I just love the, like I said, man, what they did in the beginning, with the commitment to actually string you along in an actual show. They made a show for, you know, you watched and you watched a good couple of episodes. Yeah. Maybe one to have before things went left. And and didn't give a fuck whether you knew what was happening or not, whether you want to leave or not, they're like, no, you were going to at least watch two episodes of a kid show before we get to the crazy stuff. And they did it so well. And with me not being able to predict where this was going at all, I just had a really good time watching this. I'm glad I actually went to go see this at the theater. I'm happy to support this film. As it went along, like I said, I wish the, I wish things felt like they could have been connected more or connected better. And some things I do think we need an explanation for.

26:47Some, some things I thought that that felt like plot holes in a way. Maybe I need to go off and think about this and it'll all make sense later. But for right now, it's probably a very high. It's very close to being a low full price. I'm going to go with a with a with a very high matinee because I just don't think that the writing was as good as clever as it was in the first part. Might be suffering from going on a little too long. With credits is an hour and 35. But it is a very straightforward idea. It's kind of a joke too. I love so much of this. It's something where if you feel like this is your thing, great to watch with friends who might feel the same way. If you are a fan of a dope swim, if you're a student up there getting

27:48hired every night and laughing, these bumpers and everything on a dope swim, if you love that too many cooks, then this is something that I think that you would highly enjoy. And I did that. I like this better than I thought. And I didn't, I wasn't even thinking about this movie we could go. So y'all told me about it. I'm so glad y'all did tell me about it. And yeah, I would, I can't, I don't know if I'd go see it again on the theater, but I would love to see this when it comes out on video or streaming or whatever. Because there are parts, there are parts that I can just watch over and over again. It really is like a, it really is like Barney, a P.W.s playhouse, gone the hell, man. Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting because y'all's opinions are so different. It's hard to know. I mean, it really comes down to I guess I got to see it for myself. Well, I'm not trying, again, I'm not trying to tell people to go see it. You know, I know. I'm also not saying it's bad. It just felt very rushed kind of thing like the theme ran away from the movie a little bit. Yeah. Kind of deal.

28:48Man, you know what? You know, maybe, maybe it's because I really did think about it. You know, also, what's that? There's a weird dichotomy that I think comes out once on what we're saying. Sometimes a movie isn't a great watch, but it's fun to talk about. This movie is that. Okay. Okay. And you know what I'm thinking about this, man. And maybe because I really am thinking about how much I love parts of this and I don't want to overshadow, you know, I don't want parts I'm complaining about to overshadow that, maybe because Buddy's, Buddy's looking at me right now. But I, maybe because I'm lumped up scared, but I feel compelled to go with that low full price because I enjoyed it that much. I hate to change my, my rate on the spot right here, but I really am thinking about how much fun I had with this. I am going to go just because of how personally affected me, I'm going to go with a low full price. It's just my thing. And you know, if you can relate with my crazy ass, then so be it.

29:53I'm definitely aware that it's not everybody. Just don't tell him that. So now the golf between the two great things has increased. Well, I mean, I'm just here to get my opinion. I ain't telling anybody to go see it or not. You take that up with him. I think it's worth watching for sure, but I mean, even Corey said, I don't know if I watched a second time. No, I will watch it. I said, I'll watch it a second time. I don't know if I'll go to the theater. I said, I cannot wait to watch this again when it comes on streaming, which, you know, then I can rewind my favorite parts. No. Nah. So yeah, yeah. Yeah, somebody said, now change your rating from brand new data to for a break. There you go. Okay. All right. There you go. I thought about it. I mean, I'm about to say I'm going to watch it. But you know what? Yeah, I like brand new data enough to where I will, if I like buddy over here, I'll give, I'll give spider his flowers to.

30:54Finally. Yeah. Yeah. At Punnature still ain't shit. No, no, no. No, I like the punnature in that. There you go. All right. Fine. You know how so the one is sure is going to fight buddy now. Buddy will win. So it was what two months later, the spider man, full price. There you go. Somebody's on my God, bro. I'm just talking shit. That rating ain't changing. Yeah. Let's see here. That's funny because the writer was saying that he got more of the energy from Blues Clues than and Barney that he did. A Peewee's Playhouse, but it seems very Peewee's Playhouse. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, maybe that's what the director said because his I don't say it. Well, I'm going to be. Well, I know I want to keep talking about this, but there are just some scenes of him. I know it's disturbing what, but when buddy gets mad,

31:55it is like looking at your dad get mad. And then it starts. Peewee, this is like, uh, that's what's so disturbing about this. This actor and this orange suit really does seem like somebody who is mentally ill going in with an eight like it's the way this actor betrays somebody with anger issues is amazing. Like buddy goes in there and you start like you start to see the angry side of him. And he starts people through wind on you see him abuse another puppets. Like he gives man that wants to punch a wall and a puppet like no, no, because the clock's out a lot. I never get. Yeah. Yeah. Man would puppets start dying. It's hilarious. They just tragic. There's a blank look the puppet gives for like it turns the first time kind of or you see it's anger. Yeah. But there's like a blank look when the and I don't know how they did it, but it's just perfectly encapsulates it and irritated. It's all. Yeah.

32:56The only thing that's missing from buddies like a cigarette or something like he paces, he punches things. He you know he talks to himself like they like for somebody to be in a big ass orange mascot unicorn outfit, they convey being like mentally unstable and have it anger issues. They convey that very well. It's like but those are the times when buddies not a unicorn anymore. But it's an asshole. You know, buddy somebody that needs help. Yeah. But it's just but it's disturbed. Yeah, the actor who's ever who I forgot the guy who's in it. Mike, uh, Keegan Michael Key does the voice. Whoever that actor is, the body language for showing this, just how mentally unstable buddies does a great job at it, man. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. You know, like I said, you think like my stupid ass, like puppets or something and this is this will be right up your added, but you know everything else. Beware. I don't want you coming back blaming me. Man, you have been watching that crazy shit. I don't. I didn't. I told you I was crazy.
