Byard Joins Patriots, Boosts Defense

On March 11th, Kevin Byard, the 32-year-old former Tennessee Titan Safety, is heading to the New England Patriots on a one-year 9 million.

Dollar deal. This move reunites him with Mike Vrable, his old Titan's coach, who's now in his second year leading the Pats.

The news broke on March 11th from NFL Network reporter Tom Policero.

Byard spent his first eight seasons in Tennessee, including six under Vrable, before a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles in October 20.

23. He then played his last two seasons with the Chicago Bears before hitting free agency.

Fans and analysts see this as a boost for New England's already strong defense, which ranked fourth in scoring last year.

Byard brings a proven track record, including a league leading seven interceptions in 2025 that earned him all pro honors for the third.

Vrable's debut season with the Patriots was a hit, finishing 14 wins and three losses with their first Super Bowl trips since 2018.

Adding Byard, one of free agency's top safeties, should solidify the back end even more.
