Tyson Gross, a lifelong Calgary Flames fan from the city itself, just signed a two-year entry-level contract with his hometown team. The six-foot-three-center grew up cheering in the stands at the Scotia Bank Saddle Dome, dreaming of one-day playing there. Now that dream is coming true, after he wrapped up college hockey at St. Cloud State. At St. Cloud, Gross put up 41 points in 36 games, with 18 goals and 23 assists. He earned finalists nods for NCHC, Player of the Year, Ford of the Year, and Defensive Ford of the Year. Several teams wanted him as a free agent, but he picked Calgary for the best shot and making it big. For Gross, this feels like a full circle moment. 1:00Looking back, Gross did not think NHL Scouts noticed him much after his freshman year. He worked hard each season to improve, eventually becoming Team Captain.
